Megan Diaz45 said:I asked my trainer if there’s anything I should be taking post-workout, and he started talking about protein shakes and why they're useful. Honestly, I was thinking they might help burn fat "faster" or help me build some muscle definition. Or maybe it would be better to take L-Carnitine before I hit the gym? 😕

I'm not totally sure, so I figured I'd ask for some advice here too. 😁

Protein isn't going to melt your fat away any faster. Protein shakes are mainly there to prevent catabolism—basically stopping your muscles from breaking down—after intense anaerobic training. As for L-Carnitine, if you ask me, it's just throwing money down the drain; there are way better supplements out there for mobilizing fat. Besides, your body produces plenty of its own carnitine, and you're already getting enough through your diet from things like red meat.

Fat burners are nothing more than a total waste of money, every single one of them 😎

Exactly. Honestly, sticking to caffeine and green tea gets you way better results when it comes to burning fat.

Depends on who you ask. 🤷

I knock back bitter black coffee whenever my blood pressure dips—which happens way too often. I don't see it doing anything to speed up weight loss (not that I'm complaining about where I'm at right now, mind you).

I just drink bitter black coffee whenever my blood pressure dips, which happens a lot. I don't see it actually speeding up my weight loss at all (though, let's be real, I'm happy with how things are going regardless)

Of course you aren't seeing it. Supplements alone aren't going to make the weight fall off; they’re just one tiny piece of the puzzle. People often miss the big picture because they're too focused on the small stuff 😉.

William Collins6 said:I've got some... what specifically are you looking for?

You've got carbohydrates and pure proteins (count the amino acids)
The real question is what's the goal here and how do you plan on using them
But I'm assuming you're hitting the gym...

So, if you're set on getting something, here’s my take

Grab a 100% whey isolate or maybe an anabolic whey blend, and you'll definitely pack on some mass

Look, I'm an 18-year-old girl and I just want everything to look tight. Can you recommend any proteins?

Look, if you want to get tight, you need to hit the weights.

rapidtrucker14 said:Why do people recommend protein to folks trying to bulk up AND those trying to drop weight?

Look, if you're trying to pack on size, you need more protein because that's what builds muscle. Period. But for the people trying to slim down, protein is huge because when you're dieting, your body burns through glycogen stores in your liver and muscles first, then hits the fat. The problem is, if you don't get enough protein, your body starts breaking down your actual muscle tissue just to feed itself. You end up losing some fat, sure, but you lose muscle too, and you just end up looking weak.
I've cycled through tons of different brands since I hit the gym hard, and honestly, I swear by them—they work great and don't mess with my system. p.s. Don't waste your damn money obsessing over different labels; they're all basically the same stuff.

Look, let's be real for a second: without protein, the human body basically hits a wall. It’s non-negotiable. Even if nobody hands you a shaker bottle or tells you to eat more chicken, you have to get your protein in—whether you're bulking up, cutting down, or just sitting on the couch watching Netflix all day. 😉

I usually stick to the hydraulic machines at the gym, and honestly, they feel great.
But my goal is to get my legs looking tight rather than just soft.

Man, I am dead set on one thing: I want my legs to be absolutely rock solid. I’m talking about that tight, toned look—none of that soft, jiggly stuff. I just want them to feel firm, you know? No more sagging.

Look, you can get all the protein you need just from real food. Seriously, supplements are totally unnecessary.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say "tight," though. Are you looking to drop some weight and tone up your legs at the same time?

Look, you’ll build that strength through training, plain and simple, and if you want to drop the weight, just get your diet dialed in. You can go out and spend a fortune on protein powders if you really want to, but honestly? You're going to see the exact same results whether you're sipping on supplements or not. In my opinion, you don't even need them.

Look, I wouldn't recommend these to anyone if you ask me. They absolutely wreck my digestion, and honestly, that’s a dealbreaker for me. Now, don't get me wrong—you'll definitely find some people online swearing they're life-changing, but in my experience? Once you actually try them alongside a regular routine, you'll see the results are exactly the same. It’s just not worth the stomach issues for zero extra gain.

Charles Hill35 said:Hahaha, I see right through you! 🙂 Hey, shoot me a DM about that post! 😁 😛

I’ve tried them before. If I remember correctly, they aren't loaded with soy, which is a plus. The taste was decent enough and the price didn't break the bank, so there wasn't much to complain about there. Honestly, the only reason I was even touching them was out of pure desperation—I just didn't know what else to eat. My stomach is a total disaster in the mornings; I can't look at solid food without feeling nauseous, but I can usually manage to knock a shake down. That said, I'm done with them. I won't be buying any more because they absolutely wreck my digestion.

Aha... I don't know. I'm in the same boat. I mean, I try to stick to what I can actually stomach, mostly just eating whatever comes my way in the morning... everything else is fine, doing those six meals a day thing... but honestly, I just can't bring myself to eat that much, especially in the evening. I'm not exactly a fan of low-fat cottage cheese 😳
so I was thinking about maybe swapping out two of those daily meals for some casein or something similar instead.

I can't even deal with it myself, which is why I've switched to eating three solid meals a day—that vegan cheese stuff is honestly just revolting. I mean, seriously, why on earth are you eating vegan cheese? You've got a massive variety of other things you could be eating instead.

I don't know... right before bed? Not during the day. That was actually my plan—take this stuff to replace two meals, then eventually transition to doing 3 or 4 solid meals on my own throughout the day so I'm not struggling for nothing. Now I'm just stuck trying to figure out what to buy. Everything that's actually reasonably priced has to come from the UK, so I'm basically having to drive over to New Jersey just to pick it up.😁
