mellowsurfer15 said:Is soy protein actually any good? I saw some soy granules at the grocery store today meant for making veggie patties. It had 50g of protein per 100gβ€”pretty impressive. I don't think many other foods hit that kind of ratio.

It's strange to me that nobody here has even brought it up.

Soy has been mentioned before.
But honestly, I'm not sure. I've seen people praise it and others tear it apart. Some studies say it's fine, others say stay awayβ€”you tell me. 🀷

Bottom lineβ€”when it comes to building muscle, the amino acid profile makes soy protein a step behind dairy-based proteins.

And it bugs me that nobody here has even brought it up yet?

From what I've read, you really ought to steer clear of soy because it's almost always GMO, plus there's all that talk about it messing with estrogen levels or something, which supposedly tanks your testosteroneβ€”though maybe not for everyone.

Personally, I won't touch soy with a ten-foot pole.

Soy can actually mess with how much protein you're really absorbing.

You should probably steer clear of soy. Honestly, the protein you get from soy just isn't on the same level as animal-based sources. If you take a second to compare prices, you'll notice those plant proteins seem cheaper, but they aren't worth it. Plus, if you're actually trying to build muscle, soy is definitely not the way to go.

It’s honestly incredible how much propaganda can skew the truth about soy; given the estrogen levels in it, you could turn a bull into a pig...

I wonder if there's a reason why my post hasn't received any comments yet? πŸ˜•

Unless you're some hardcore BB type or something similar, you won't even notice a difference...

Look, I actually used that stuffβ€”the massive 9-pound tub, the gray bucket with the blue lid. I was mixing it up in my shaker and honestly, I didn't notice any weird clumps. I've heard rumors that they pack these things with glucose and all sorts of other junk, but who knows if that's actually true. All I know for sure is that I was farting like a pig and my digestion was totally trashed, which usually happens to me with pretty much any protein supplement, so I'm assuming there was definitely whey in there. As for how "pure" the ingredients actually were? Your guess is as good as mine.

I picked it up in Cleveland at that local health food shop over on Scholtz. It was imported by Nutrix out of Chicago.

I suppose I ended up getting that same tub as well.
Though, I guess it might be causing some bloating for me.😒
But maybe it doesn't really matter, honestly.
It probably won't do any lasting harm.

Christian Harris2 said:Yeah, I grabbed a tub of that stuff too.
The only problem is it gives me freaking clumps.😒
But whatever, screw it.
It’s not like it's gonna kill me.

Man, you really need to start shopping online. In this country, if you aren't buying through a screen, someone's definitely trying to rip you off.

I suppose so.

I just order through this one online shop based out of Canada and the stuff shows up in about two days. It’s half the price and they have everything you need
stop letting those local markup kings bleed you dry

Whey hits your muscles lightning fast. It’s great if you want to pack on mass and recover by building up layers of new muscle after every single session at the Gym. Yeah, it’s all great, it's all wonderful, whatever. But take a look at the sweeteners they cram into this stuffβ€”we're talking Aspartame, Glutamine, MSG... you get the idea. Go ahead, look it up online or ask any doctor about those compounds... I’m not even gonna list the colorful poisons they make out of them, or how your brain basically goes to hell after using whey protein for too long. If you're gonna do proteins, go for the pure stuffβ€”zero cholesterol, zero sweeteners... but then again, those are hard to find and cost an absolute fortune. And as for creatine? Don't just go overboard with it. If you overdo it, your body stops producing its own natural creatine, and you'll be soft for the rest of your life with messed up kidneys and a trashed liver. So yeah, just be careful with that!
