As far as I'm concerned, Björk is easily the most compelling artist to follow right now. You either love her or you absolutely hate her. I'm definitely in the first

Btw, that whole story about her working with Lars von Trier on *Melancholia* is wild. He traumatized her so much that she’d show up to set and just spit at him every single morning. They didn't even talk. She later admitted he’d try to coach her on how to sing certain songs, and she basically told him—in her own words—that if she didn't kill him right then, she never would. What did that collision of geniuses actually produce? One of the best musicals ever made, and a Palme d'Or for her best acting performance at Cannes 🙏

p.s.
I thought Tom Waits had already covered it... "Mit Gas" has been on heavy rotation on my Winamp lately 😎

Look, just give me some actual arguments—give me something concrete to chew on regarding why this concept supposedly transcends emotion so I can actually sit down and re-evaluate my own stance...

Because, honestly, her music feels like one unending, torrential river of pure emotion...

A river of emotion... wow. How on earth did I not think of that brilliant metaphor myself!? 🤔

Most people say it was actually her who traumatized him, though—I guess I'm kind of on his side since I like him more 😁 but he's probably just as crazy as she is.

Heh, I don't know about all that...

Have you ever sat down and watched "The Seven Samurai"?

I have so much respect for everything he’s put out—honestly, I think he’s one of the most incredible directors working today...
😁 but man, watching "The Seven Samurai"... his headspace is just a little bit terrifying, if I'm being honest...

so I really doubt she could have traumatized him... just look at what he did to poor Werner Herzog. hehehehe.

Well, that's kind of why I said he was crazy--I guess.😉

Alright, let's hear it: who, what, how, and why. Actually, skip the why, and I don't even need the how... I'll figure out how to survive.

Not sure which one you mean—Dancer in the Dark or Five Obstructions? I'm guessing the latter. It’s basically that movie where Lars von Trier "pushes" another director to re-shoot certain scenes from an old film in five different ways, all while setting these strict rules for him. Honestly, his whole goal seemed to be just messing with the guy's head—which, I suppose, he managed to do. 😁

I’m pretty sure Werner Herzog used to be his professor back in the day...

She’s a total madman!!!! And honestly, she’s such a talented actress too. Have you guys seen Black Swan? It’s a brutal film.😛

Uh, I wouldn't go that far regarding her acting chops! 👎 I'd say she should just stick to singing, because let's be real—Lars von Trier is just some jerk with his movies... and the way he treats those poor animals! 😲

Do you actually have any real arguments to back up such a "firm" stance that you'd be willing to share with the rest of us?

Well, I suppose I shall elaborate on one particular point—though, admittedly, it's a somewhat shaky argument, which is why I felt the need to write my previous post in the first place. I heard through the grapevine—hence my hesitation regarding its certainty—that the director was physically abusive toward an animal. Specifically, a donkey! 😉 There! Is that sufficient? Or were we all just sitting around waiting for someone to analyze Björk's acting performance instead? 🤔

Lars von Trier is a talentless hack🙂 He doesn't make movies; he just masturbates in front of a camera. Even those two brothers from Oasis couldn't handle that much self-indulgence.

Anywho, why is everyone constantly obsessed with using "arguments"? To me, art is a space where arguments don't exist—there's no logic, no set rules. It either works or it doesn't. Sometimes a director just starts jerking himself off on screen, and I'm not into it. How am I supposed to argue that? I can't! I'm not some high-brow critic; I'm just stating my opinion. Besides, if "arguments" actually mattered in art, wouldn't every music critic be saying the exact same thing about an album? Since they aren't, it just proves that at the end of the day, they're all just giving their own take, too.

Honestly, I have such a distaste for arguments... though I do have a soft spot for kindness... so, I decided to be polite about my reasoning! 😁

Anywho, why is everyone always so obsessed with making an argument? I guess to me art isn't really about logic or rules—it’s more like, it either works or it doesn't.

Not for me, I guess—if someone’s going to claim that Lars von Trier is some talentless hack, they should probably bring more to the table than just saying "I don't like him."
Honestly, sometimes you just realize a woman starts getting too much of an ego—or maybe she's just acting out—and it's not really my thing. I guess the question is, how do I even bring that up without sounding like an idiot?

First off, you’ll have to explain what you mean by "mocking"—I'm guessing you aren't talking about someone getting touched inappropriately during an album shoot, but more like something related to the music itself, I guess.
And besides—if arguments actually meant anything in art, I guess you’d expect all music critics to be giving the exact same reviews for every album.

Nah. Even in science, you get different interpretations of the exact same thing—it’s just how everything works, I guess.

He wasn't being abusive, he just executed it on camera. Kind of like Coppola in Apocalypse Now. Remember that film? Or is that too much to ask...
