For instance, if you eat fish, you don't need omega-3 capsules because those fatty acids are naturally found in North Atlantic fish. You get your vitamins and minerals from fruits and veggies. You get fiber from produce and whole grains too. I mean, who are you trying to sell this stuff to? Anyone actually serious about their health can manage without magic potions. I stay healthy without any supplements, even though I have a genetic predisposition for psoriasis. I had a flare-up on my elbow last year (probably just stress), but it's gone now. And no, I don't go chugging "natural" remedies. Sometimes I'll grab a drink or have some alcohol. Chocolate is my absolute favorite food.
I totally agree! 😬
Macgregor, please come back down to earth, because
only those of us living with psoriasis truly understand how it feels. ☕
In the ten years since I was diagnosed,
all over my body, people have tried to sell me every miracle cure, vitamin, mineral, or soap imaginable—especially those folks who make a living peddling "all-natural" dietary supplements. Not a single one worked for me, except for the Eloc cream my dermatologist prescribed on day one, plus plenty of good old-fashioned sunshine and the ocean breeze.
See, after living with this since I was eighteen, I've learned that my psoriasis is triggered by stress, or basically anything that causes
my immune system to dip. For example, I completely flare up during my period, even if I felt perfectly "clear" just days before. The same thing happens whenever I catch the flu or an infection—the second my immunity takes a hit, my skin goes wild. And thank God my immune system is practically seasoned from all the antibiotics doctors pumped me full of throughout my childhood for every little sniffle... 😠
It's true that anyone dealing with a chronic condition should try to live healthy, which means eating well, but that doesn't mean you need to swallow a handful of pills every single day. Just eat nutritious, high-fiber foods, watch the junk food, don't overdo the booze, and you're set. 😬 It sounds easy, but how do you actually control stress? 😕 I'm a very sensitive person, and that's becoming a bigger challenge in my life. That's why I think you have to learn to manage your emotions—either through sheer willpower or maybe some calming aids (like Persen at least). Personally, my go-to is a little beer (and I actually take it for medicinal reasons because I deal with kidney stones 😬). Before anyone tries to call me a mindless drinker, let me be clear: I have tried every supplement under the sun, and even when I put my faith in Omega-3, nothing changed. My skin only settles down once I use my cream or spend time in the sun (whether it's a nice afternoon out or just a few minutes in a tanning bed). In the winter, soaking in a bath with sea salt works wonders too. I'm repeating myself: I have ten years of experience here. After a decade, I simply know that this is a condition my own body triggers, and I have to live with it. I haven't completely given up hope that it might just vanish one day, but that depends entirely on
me, not on some herbalist craze or similar phenomena.☕
Maybe what I said didn't come across quite right, but my heart was really just in helping those who’ve just been diagnosed and are feeling totally overwhelmed. I'm living proof that you can absolutely thrive with psoriasis! My best stretches—you know,
without it—always happened when I was genuinely happy, stress-free, and finally learned to embrace myself... No matter how many weird looks you get from strangers, please don't hide away from the summer sun. The sunshine is truly your best friend!
