And how much should I budget for it just to be certain I won't run into any issues?

The software is gonna find the limit for you... honestly, you’ll probably hit the ceiling and then the textures will just turn into absolute garbage, so once you hear that slight stuttering, just back off a few MHz and call it a day...

And for the love of god, watch your temps.🙂

Why does my audio cut out every time I try to overclock my processor? Is there a reason why the sound just disappears?

I’m getting stable performance at 550 (core) / 700 (memory).
I started seeing artifacts once I hit 560/720.

You've clearly got a garbage motherboard.div>

That really depends on which GPU you're running...

I’d bump it up by 5-10MHz and stress test it with a demanding game—if the textures start glitching out, you've pushed it too far.

So, I’ve got this Intel motherboard with an i848P chipset. Honestly, the BIOS is more than enough for what I need, but I’m really trying to figure out the best way to overclock my memory—it's a Kingmax 2x512 400 setup. I guess I'm wondering if it's better to run it with lower latencies or higher ones, or maybe there's some other trick, like tweaking it through a bus via the processor or something?
Oh, and also, how does one go about overclocking a 9600 Pro graphics card? Can I just mess with that in the BIOS, or is that a whole different beast entirely?🙏

Look, it’s definitely better to run things at lower latencies. You can overclock the GPU, but you don't necessarily have to do it through the BIOS—provided the BIOS even gives you that option. Personally, I think it's smarter to overclock using software like the AMD tool or Nvidia omega drivers, mainly because they come with built-in Artifact testers to catch any issues early.

I'm looking to pick up an ASUS P4P800 motherboard for as cheap as possible $150 because there's no way I'm paying shipping on top of a $480 price tag for something brand new!!!😬 😬 😬 👍

Hey everyone!
I hope I’m asking this in the right spot...
So, I have an IBM laptop and the other day it just totally gave up on me. It was charging away, but the second I tried to unplug it—boom, black screen. I’ve tried turning it back on a few times and plugging it back into the charger, but absolutely nothing happens. A little later, I noticed this smell, like something actually burnt inside, and even after a few days, the scent is still lingering. I'm curious, does anyone know what might have happened? And should I just take it straight to an IBM service center?

Can someone walk me through the process in detail, or better yet, point me toward a site that actually explains how I can overclock my Venice 3000 +?

I’m not looking to swap out my cooler or anything; I just want to squeeze out some extra performance using the stock cooler I've got. Since I'm a total newbie at this, I really need some deep-dive info so I don't end up frying my CPU...

thanks...

Hey there
-MBO Matsonic, running at 478 MHz
-Celeron 2.2GHz
-768MB RAM
-GeForce FX 5200 128MB

Is there any magic I can work on this setup? Anything worth overclocking? I'm all ears for any advice

P.S. I'm a total newbie when it comes to overclocking, so please walk me through the details if you can
thanks

I know this isn't quite the right spot for this, but how do I go about overclocking my processor? I'm running an ASUS motherboard.
Specs:
ASUS Motherboard, Socket 939, A8V Deluxe, VIA K8T800PRO, 2000 MHz Bus, Serial ATA RAID, DDR 400, 1Gbps, 2x FireWire, ATX2.

Processor
Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2200 MHz, 512 kb cache, Socket 939, 2000 MHz Bus, BOX

If anyone could help me figure out how to overclock this, I'd appreciate it. What actually controls the overclocking process? I know about the Everest software, but I can't seem to get anything done through it. Thanks for any help.

To start, just dive into your BIOS and bump up the frequency one step at a time—it's a bit of a balancing act. You won't be able to push it too hard because of the memory constraints, especially since it's running at 400 MHz—raising the FSB speed also bumps up your memory latency... but you can probably squeeze out at least a 5% gain. Try setting the FSB to 215 first and see how it holds up—if macOS stays stable and your games run fine, then slowly nudge it up by 2. That's the short version, anyway—there's basically an entire science to it! 😁

And how exactly am I supposed to upgrade the memory here? Thanks. Half the people in this thread aren't even running anything faster than DDR-400 anymore.

Just like you mentioned with the FBI, latency works the same way—any 400MHz memory is probably going to hit around 412-416, even if it's just some random off-brand stuff, so go ahead and list it

And one more thing—what exactly is the FSB? Is there an option for it in the BIOS? Sorry if that sounds like a pretty rookie question, I've just never actually tried overclocking before.
