Lewis was untouchable, both in qualifying and during the race itself. He earned this win fair and square.
Lewis handled himself beautifully on the podium, too. Hats off to him for that.
But then we get to the press conference. We find out he actually sent a message to his guy, worrying that his rivals might put on fresh rubber during the safety car period to threaten his lead. In the end, I think some of the responsibility lies with Lewis. He’s a veteran driver; he knows how difficult it is to overtake in Monaco.
And hey, seeing Ferrari's pressure injected into this year's championship adds a nice bit of spice.
Aside from Lewis, the drivers of the race were Perez and Button 🙏
Not only that, but he was asking about the brakes—specifically how to cool the fronts down. The response he got was basically "don't touch anything," because they needed to keep the car balanced and just keep driving the way he was. It’s telling that right after that, he only manages one fastest lap, while Rosberg and Ricciardo are faster than him—maybe even Vettel, I didn't quite catch that part... And then, after all that, he half-heartedly executes his "tactics" and dives into the pits, allowing them to pass him. Honestly, he got lucky to still be racing in Monte Carlo since Ricciardo was breathing down his neck... To me, he's largely at fault here for not knowing the limits of his car. He didn't feel the car the way Rosberg did, and this track suits Rosberg much better. Vettel was excellent, too. In my eyes, Vettel and Ricciardo were the best out there, followed by Rosberg, who was driving a significantly better car than those two. That doesn't take away from Lewis's achievements, though. He was fantastic and drove exactly what he needed to in order to win. Credit to them, but I have to give Hamo a thumbs down...👎
