Lord of the Rings without the ring (title) 😂

How can you be so sure the contract isn't signed? Just because it hasn't been announced doesn't mean it isn't done.

Forget about those three laps for a second—remember how much trouble Renault had during pre-season testing before this season, only to end up second in the standings with three wins...

How can you be so certain the contract hasn't been signed? The fact that there hasn't been an official announcement yet doesn't necessarily mean it isn't finalized.

Forget about those three rounds of speculation; just look back at how many issues Renault dealt with during testing before this season, only to end up finishing second in the standings with three wins under their belt.

And listen, if Alonso had overtaken Petrov, we’d be talking about something significant. 😳
But no, this period wasn't particularly fruitful for him or for Ferrari.

I suspect the deal hasn't been inked because McLaren is currently facing driver lineup uncertainty for the third time in a row. Even if it has been signed—and even if Honda makes progress next year at the same rate Renault did this year—who is to say McLaren will actually be competitive enough to challenge Red Bull? They've had superior engines for several years now (including this year), yet they still haven't managed to produce a better car.

Not really—you’d have to beat Rosberg first... ☕ You gotta admit—Tim really played him there...

William Bennett53 said:I honestly think the contract hasn't been signed yet—mostly because McLaren seems to be winning the driver lineup lottery for the third time in a row...

A trophy for the second driver... ☕

Even if Honda makes some serious progress next year—I mean, even if they improve at the same rate Renault did this season—who’s actually saying McLaren is going to be on par with Red Bull? They’ve had a better engine than them for a few years now (including this year), yet they still haven't managed to build a better car...

I was saying—I'm expecting McLaren to come out ahead of Ferrari, but as for Red Bull... I just don't know...

How do you know Fettel isn't making the exact same money as Alonso? For all we know, he might even be pulling in more!

I know he's pulling in a bigger paycheck now, but Alonso definitely took less back in the day. Pretty sure that’s just because he wasn't just better—he was simply the best. 🍿

neonfox65 said:He hasn't had a decent car at Red Bull for five years, so obviously he’s heading out to find some wins with a different team.

Not true. They had a car competitive enough to hang with Red Bull at least three times.
2010, 2012, and 2014...

neonfox65 said:I told you guys: I’m expecting McLaren to outperform Ferrari, but as for Red Bull? Honestly, who knows.

Ferrari was basically on Red Bull's level this season. But what if they actually jump ahead of them next year?
How exactly are you going to explain that to yourself if it actually happens? And what then, if you end up even ahead of the legendary McLaren? 🤣

The real question here is who’s actually going to be behind the wheel of that McLaren. Given how things are looking right now, it probably won't be Alonso.
Honestly, while you're all busy spinning those empty fairy tales about the great Maestra, maybe try asking yourselves a few actual, meaningful questions for once...

Why?
Red Bull didn't pick up Alonso. Honestly, why would anyone even consider that? Nobody's even thinking about it.
As far as the junior academy goes, that’s really not the issue here. Honestly, Qvist needed at least another year at STR. Even if they had gone with Alonso, they probably would've ended up dropping one of those kids in favor of Qvist anyway.
They could have pulled that off without even blinking an eye regarding the junior academy, but nope—they didn't spend a single second actually thinking about it.

B.) Mercedes didn't pick up Alonso. Honestly, why would anyone even think that was on the table?
Hamilton basically said, "I want a challenge, not an easy win," and that pissed them off. Now they're getting their revenge by blocking Alonso from joining the crew.

So, why didn't Williams pick up Alonso? Honestly, why hasn't anyone even seriously considered making that move?
Well, they aren't a factory team, so they obviously knew there was no point in even asking him. 🙂

So, why hasn't McLaren confirmed Alonso yet if they've already signed him?
Oh sure, they probably don't want to hurt Button's or Magnussen's feelings. That way, everyone would actually realize someone is flying off the track... but of course, nobody's talking about that. 😁
And that’s exactly why they end up forming this little club of indecisive idiots—people who can't make a single move on something they should have figured out two or three months ago.

@neonfox65/">@@neonfox65, you claim that because the Renault engine struggled early on, yet Red Bull managed to snag three wins with it by season's end, we should be optimistic about McLaren Honda next year. But let's be realistic: McLaren isn't Red Bull. I fail to see where this optimism is rooted when McLaren spent this entire season running superior Mercedes engines and still couldn't pull off a single victory. Is there any chance we might actually see Newey joining them next season?

But look, McLaren isn't Red Bull... I'm not sure where you're getting that optimism from when McLaren had superior Mercedes engines all season long and still couldn't grab a single win. Maybe Newey is joining them next season?

My point is just that Renault had massive engine issues and they actually fixed them before the season kicked off. So why wouldn't Honda be able to do the same if they run into trouble like you're suggesting...

Red Bull didn't pick up Alonso—I mean, seriously, why would anyone even think that was on the table?...

That’s what they said. It all comes down to their driver development program—bringing someone else in just wouldn't make any sense given how they've mapped everything out...

So, B—Mercedes didn't go for Alonso... honestly, why hasn't anyone even seriously considered that possibility over there? It just doesn't add up...

Why would they even touch a winning combination? Besides—both drivers are already locked in for 2015 anyway...

So... why didn't Williams ever pick up Alonso? And honestly—why was it that nobody over there even considered it?...

It’s pretty simple—Alonso isn't going to join some customer team where he'd have zero shot at winning a championship...

So... why hasn't McLaren confirmed Alonso yet if they've already signed him?

How many times do we have to say it? It’s because they want to settle on their second driver first—then they'll announce both of them together...

Forget the engine. For the last two years, the McLaren chassis has been an absolute disaster.

That is exactly what I have been telling him for the past two days... this season they had a fantastic engine but were still completely underwhelming, yet next year they'll be running a brand new, unproven power unit, all while we sit here assuming everything will just magically fix itself mid-season.

How can you say they had a great engine when Ron Dennis himself admitted they weren't running the same power unit as Mercedes—that they were actually a bit behind...

And how do you know this slump isn't just them gearing up for next year? For all we know, McLaren spent this entire season experimenting just to get ready for their move to Honda next year...

Exactly. By any logic, McLaren should’ve finished ahead of Williams—they’ve got more cash, more resources, and a better crew.

Unless they don't!? Or maybe McLaren is actually spiraling into irrelevance. Honestly, the more I look at it, the more I believe that.

When was the last time they even touched a Constructors' Championship!?

1998

Or basically, since neonfox65 joined the chat, McLaren hasn't seen a single Constructors' title.

Oh, really? So when Dennis claims they haven't even signed Alonso yet, you don't believe him, but suddenly he’s the authority when he's making excuses about inferior engines? Even if that were true, they still held an edge over Ferrari and Renault. Furthermore, as ruggedhawk20 points out, they possess a massive budget and a mountain of top-tier engineers, yet they continue to flop.

Because Honda only has two cars to work with, while Renault was dealing with eight...
And out of those eight, four were laid out completely differently inside the chassis—different cooling setups, different wiring, different component placement, all that good stuff.
That’s a massive difference. What Honda can test over four seasons, Renault could cram into one.☕

neonfox65 said:They said it. They have a driver development program, and bringing in someone else wouldn't make any sense within that framework.

If you take all those "expert" opinions as gospel...🙂
Then you have Alonso, driving a total wreck of a Ferrari that was stuck in 4th-6th place for years, still somehow winning and fighting for titles...
And then there's Red Bull being the top two teams back in 2014...

Do the math, and you get the "logic" that Alonso could somehow win a title even in a car like this Red Bull. 🤣
So, Red Bull didn't pass on Alonso because they aren't interested in winning championships. 🤣
Or maybe the people at Red Bull are just too clueless to see Alonso's massive potential...

Their driver program has nothing to do with it here.
The program would work perfectly fine with anyone they picked up off the street, because through that system, Ricc ended up in a No. 1 seat anyway, and a kid or two would still end up in STR...

neonfox65 said:Why mess with a winning combination? Plus, both drivers are under contract for 2015.

That’s because you claim Rosberg and Hamilton hate each other, yet here are Alonso and Hamilton openly loving each other and swapping compliments.🙂

neonfox65 said:Because Alonso won't join a customer team where he doesn't have a shot at the title.

Please. He barely had a shot with a factory team, so who knows, maybe he’d actually start hitting targets with a customer team.🤷
If we're being realistic, Williams could probably give Mercedes a run for their money every now and then if they had one decent F1 driver...
And if nothing else, Alonso would definitely be grabbing wins with Williams, and he'd be a podium threat every single weekend.☕

neonfox65 said:Told you a thousand times. They just want to pick the second driver first, then announce them both at the same time.

Oh yeah, because obviously the No. 2 driver is way more important, and his news is definitely more big-deal than the No. 1 driver's. 🙂

Honestly, looks like everything at Ferrari starts and ends with the graphic design. Just like their whole damn country, really.

All flash and fancy packaging—we'll see what's actually under the hood when things get real.
