Regarding open surgery—it might sound a bit out there, but if you look at the footage from the red folder when Dr. Smith was operating on Ava Karabeg, that was an open procedure. Personally, I don't know anyone who's had nose surgery, but from what I can see, Ava doesn't even have a scar, and she was already out there posing for photos just a week later.
The thing is, an open approach isn't just reserved for the extreme cases; sometimes it’s just the method that gives the surgeon a much better view of the nasal anatomy—especially if you've already had work done before.

I watched it...
It all looks pretty gross when you watch those clips... I did a little Googling and found explanations saying they usually do that for major deformities or revision surgeries.
I just really hope my scar isn't visible.🙂🙂

I don't recall you being unhappy about it; if anything, you were the one comforting me.🙂
What happened—did they do something to you???
I'm still dealing with the fallout from my surgery just a month later, so I get it...

Anyway, I sent over those photos. It looks like the cartilage at the tip has actually grown back. Apparently, cartilage has this annoying tendency to regrow after it's been trimmed, which made my nose look a bit more prominent before. I had what you'd call "cartilaginous kyphosis," but the surgeon mentioned he performed an osteotomy to narrow it down slightly, mostly because I'm such a perfectionist.🙂

The cast is finally off! I have to admit, I felt a little weird at first because my nasal tip used to droop, and now it’s slightly lifted. From the profile view, it looks amazing! It’s shorter, which was honestly my biggest struggle. My nose still looks like *my* nose, it’s just... scaled down. What surprised me was that I expected the change to be even more drastic, but Dr. Shaw told me the swelling will settle and it'll look even smaller in about 10 days. I've still got some pretty visible bruising—mostly yellow with blue streaks—but breathing is easy, which is a huge win.
Bottom line: I’m happy. I got exactly what I wanted. I still look like ME, but I feel so much better. That "potato" look is gone, the chin projection feels balanced now, and I think all my insecurities about my nose are officially dead. :-)
I also think people won't react by saying, "Oh, you had surgery," but rather, "Wow, you look great!" :-)

One more thing. Did any of you actually get an invoice from your surgeon? They didn't give me anything, and in all the post-op euphoria, I completely forgot to ask. I'll need to give them a call and check.

Paul Sullivan88, I was actually at Dr. Miller's office on my final day before heading home, and they handed me my discharge papers—two full pages, mind you, because he really took his time documenting every single detail 😂—along with my billing statement and all the other paperwork tied to my case.

Did you ever receive your official discharge summary? I know some physicians out there are notoriously tight-fisted when it comes to handing over documentation... Were you seeing Dr. Smith?
On another note, I am truly glad to hear you're happy with how your rhinoplasty turned out!

Maria Mia, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you; please touch base and let us know how everything goes!

I’ve been through the whole surgery thing myself. Had to go under the knife for some health issues, and honestly, I just decided to go ahead and get a little tweak done while I was at it. I’m beyond happy with how it turned out. Sure, the recovery was rough—painful, even—but you eventually stop thinking about it. It becomes old news. 😍

Did you get any discharge papers? I know some doctors refuse to hand over any documentation at all... Were you seeing Glumičić?
Anyway, glad to hear you're happy with your nose!

Maria Mia, fingers crossed for you! Let us know how it goes!

He didn't give me a receipt or any discharge papers. During our consultation, he assured me, "Yes, yes, you'll get a standard receipt," but now they're playing dumb unless you specifically demand it. I'm calling them tomorrow. I can't believe I let this slip. As for the discharge summary, I asked my sister before the surgery and she said they don't usually write those.

Does anyone know if that receipt can be used for a tax deduction? I'm thinking if I state it was for a septoplasty due to medical reasons?

As for the discharge papers, I asked my sister before the surgery and she said they usually don't bother writing those up.

Does anyone know if I can use that receipt on my tax return to get some money back? I'm thinking if I list it as a septuplets birth or maybe some health-related necessity?

Look

Here's the deal—ask for the bill, but you don't need to report anything over $12,000 because for tax purposes, it doesn't matter if it's $12 or $30.
The main thing is what you already mentioned—that procedure has to be documented as strictly medically necessary.
The refund for that would be about 1 $67,
it's worth it👍

I just got off the phone with them; I’m heading over in a few days to pick up my invoice. My sister did give me a heads-up, though—she says the IRS won't touch anything billed under Glumičić because the second they see that name, they know it's just for cosmetic procedures.
Has anyone here actually gone to Glumičić or maybe Ostojić? Did you actually manage to get your tax refund approved?

I actually went in for some cosmetic work back in October last year, so if anyone has questions about the process, feel free to reach out. I went the aesthetic route, so...

The results turned out amazing! 😁

Has anyone here actually used Glumičić or maybe gone to Ostojić? Did you manage to get any kind of tax refund?

In my view, the issue isn't with Glumičić or Ostojić as medical professionals, but rather the moment they see "Cosmetic Surgery Clinic" on the paperwork—or whatever the branding is—that’s where the trouble starts. Ostojić actually told me straight out that I probably wouldn't be able to claim a deduction, likely for that exact reason.

I've only been on this new regimen for a month, and I'm honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed...

Kenneth Kim67, what exactly went wrong during your first procedure? I'm curious about what didn't work out for you and which specialist you eventually decided to go to for the revision.
Wishing you all the best!!!

Brandon Bennett said:I had nose surgery a few days ago with Dr. Glumac. I have a couple questions for anyone who has been through this.
1. I caught a slight cold, so mucus is draining down my throat and into the tampons. Could this cause an infection, gangrene, or something serious? I'm worried.😁
2. Every night I deal with nausea, feeling exactly like I have a kidney stone. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

It’s all completely normal. I had my nose done exactly one year ago. I actually posted my own recovery story on this forum back then. I vomited at least twenty times. I reacted poorly to the anesthesia. Right now, what you're feeling is definitely due to the tampons. I went through both issues. Once those tampons come out, everything clears up. It wasn't until after they were removed that I could actually see the results. Until that moment, I was seriously regretting my decision.😁,,
Everything will turn out great.👍

What’s the price difference for a procedure with those actresses versus what Duje Ostojić charges? I'm talking strictly cosmetic, nothing to fix a deviation. Are those two really the top plastic surgeons in the States?

I actually posted my own experience on this forum back then—I ended up throwing up at least twenty times. My body just didn't take the anesthesia very well. Right now, I'm certain what you're going through is mostly due to those nasal tampons. It was a similar story for me; it was a mix of both things. Once those tampons come out, everything starts looking up. It wasn't until they were removed that I could finally sit back and actually look at my new nose. Before that, I was sitting there thinking, "My God, what have I done?" 😁,,
it'll all turn out great,👍

My 15-year-old son had surgery yesterday for some health issues. He was operated on by a specialist at a major hospital in Chicago, and even though it only took two hours, it felt like an eternity to me. He's incredibly swollen right now and the pain seems unbearable. Blood keeps draining down his throat so he can't swallow, and his teeth are hurting him badly too. They told us the tampons won't be removed for another six days... Can anyone tell me how long this level of pain lasts and how long the total recovery takes? Thanks.

So, I'm 18, and about a year ago I totally smashed my nose in from some crazy trauma. It was bad enough that the ER docs didn't even want to touch it to set it—it was super crooked and definitely leaning to one side. Well, I finally went under the knife with some specialists a few days ago, and so far, things are looking pretty good! They just took the packing out today, and man, being able to breathe through both nostrils for the first time in a year feels incredible. Before this, I barely had 20% airflow on the left and maybe 50% on the right. Honestly, the surgery itself wasn't painful, just really annoying having those tampons in there, plus the antibiotics made me feel kind of nauseous. I also dealt with constant throat infections all year because everything was draining down my throat since it couldn't get through my nose. Getting the packing out wasn't even that bad, though a stitch popped inside a bit and I bled a little. I asked the doctor if that was normal, and he said it happens sometimes and it’s fine. So, I guess that's actually okay? Everything seems alright so far.

I already posted about my own nose surgery experience. Reading how someone else went through it sounds almost unbelievable to me. Every surgery, whether cosmetic or medical, is a major event. However, I realized that once people see the end result, they tend to forget all the hardship. They tell themselves it wasn't that bad. Some people handle it worse than others, but it’s definitely more intense than just getting a tooth pulled.
I think he might start feeling better regarding the pain by tomorrow. Everything changes once those packs are removed. That's when the relief hits. During my recovery, I couldn't sleep at all. I could manage during the day, but nights were a total disaster. I lived for the sunrise. If I even drifted off, I’d jerk awake feeling like I was choking. The mouth breathing, the stuffed nose, the drainage—it was terrifying. Once they took the packing out, it all vanished. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. Just be patient. In six days, he will feel like a new man.
Best wishes and good luck.
