placiddrifter26 said:I’d say you have hyperlipidemia—basically high cholesterol—but it doesn't look like anything extreme. You might be able to manage quite a bit of it just through diet, unless it's tied to a thyroid issue or maybe some kidney trouble.
I'm not sure how old you are or if you've dealt with any metabolic issues before.
To start, I'd suggest cutting back on fats. You could try taking some Omega-3 supplements from Johnson & Johnson, and maybe adding a little olive oil to your meals. It would definitely help to cut out sausages, deli meats, and anything else high in fat, while eating plenty of fruits and veggies.
As for your reproductive hormones, they all seem to be right on the borderline.
Have you had your thyroid levels checked?

Thanks so much for the info.

I did get my thyroid tested, though I don't have the results handy. Everything was within the normal range, except that an ultrasound showed my thyroid is slightly enlarged. There aren't any cysts or anything like that, so the specialist said everything is fine, I just might be more predisposed to thyroid issues down the road. Anyway, I'm waiting until June 23rd just to get on an eight-month waiting list for a follow-up—which is ridiculous. I think I'll probably just end up paying a private doctor instead.

It has been about two weeks since I received my final dose of the Hepatitis A vaccine... and looking over my recent blood work, I noticed some numbers that seem a bit out of alignment. My AST came back at 55 (where the target was 38), my ALT is sitting at 157 (compared to the expected 48), and my GGT is up to 105 (when it should be around 55)... I can't help but wonder if there might be a connection here, or if perhaps it's just the result of my habit of indulging in a few drinks over the weekend...

Thanks!

Could this be a reaction to the shot, or am I just feeling the effects of my weekend drinking sessions?

Thanks!

Honestly, you and alcohol shouldn't even be in the same room together, let alone hanging out on the weekends. I think I’ve already made my stance pretty clear to you.😉

Could someone please clarify something for me? I recently had a comprehensive coagulation panel done ahead of an upcoming surgery, and my results showed an elevated fibrinogen level of 5.5. The doctor mentioned I would need an injection prior to the procedure; if anyone has experience with this, I would truly appreciate your insight.

I appreciate the response, truly. However, I find myself wondering if anyone here actually knows whether Twinrix might cause these specific levels to spike in a lab report... I mean, look, I enjoy a drink now and then, but I certainly wouldn't call myself a heavy drinker, and honestly, I've never had any issues with my liver in all my years. Still, we have to remember that Twinrix is specifically a hepatitis vaccine, after all...
Best regards!

Stopped taking my Lipitor about a month ago... tried switching over to some herbal teas instead. Big mistake. Everything’s gone downhill and these lab results are freaking me out. Need some input here.
urea 6.9
creatinine 86
cholesterol 7.02 H
hdl cholesterol 1.86
ldl cholesterol 4.5 H
triglycerides 1.37
ast 79 H
alt 115 H
Everything was totally fine two months ago. Did I screw up by ditching the meds for "natural" remedies? Those AST and ALT numbers are what really have me worried...😕
I don't touch alcohol. Just taking my thyroid meds, blood pressure stuff, and circulation pills.☕

Hey there, it looks like you have mixed dyslipidemia, which really does require medical management.
Even though you didn't include the reference ranges—which is super important since lab standards vary from one clinic to another here in the States—it sounds like stopping your meds was a bit of a misstep.
Now, alternative medicine can be helpful in certain cases, but usually alongside conventional treatment. It caught me off guard that you went totally solo on this one.
AST and ALT aren't typically linked to thyroid meds; rather, those lipid issues stem from metabolism problems. More likely, those liver numbers are reacting to weight loss supplements or something similar you might have been using, rather than alcohol consumption.
I'd suggest getting back on your prescribed lipid therapy. Honestly, I've seen so many people make things much harder on themselves by dropping their prescriptions, though at the end of the day, it's your choice how you want to handle your health.
Hang in there! I'm rooting for you, and I'm sure once you get back on track with your meds, everything will settle down to normal.

So, here are my thyroid hormone results. Every time I get them from the hospital, they leave out the reference ranges. They don't mention any medication either, so I assume everything is fine, but I'd still love some input if anyone has a moment.

2006 2007 2008
TSH 0.75 1.67 0.91

FT4 10.5 10.8 10.4

FT3 4.6 4.6 4.7

Size (Dr) 17×13×60 19×13×60
(Lr) 22×12×58 20×12×60
no focal changes no clear focal changes
antibodies always negative
last diagnosis: non-toxic diffuse goiter, Euthyroidism

I'm 37, and I've been trying to conceive. Somewhere above, I've included my sex hormone levels and cholesterol too.

Thanks!

Another set of bad blood results. My AST is at 32 (normal up to 30), ALT hit 81 (limit is 36), and GGT is 79 (should be under 35). Does anyone actually know what causes liver enzymes to spike like this? I don't touch alcohol and I don't eat greasy food, but I have a massive sweet tooth—could all that sugar be doing this? These numbers have been bothering me for a while now. I even went in for an abdominal ultrasound and everything looked fine, but my doctor mentioned it might be fatty liver disease. What does that even mean?

I’m dealing with hives, fatty liver, and high cholesterol. My white blood cell count came back at 12.39, with neutrophils at 8.3, monocytes at 3.0, and LUC at 1.2. I just finished a round of antibiotics about a month ago. Also—just to throw this out there—I have an infection in my jawbone. Does that have anything to do with these blood results? If anyone has dealt with something similar, please reach out..

My CRP is sitting at 54... yet everything else on my blood work (white cell count, lymphocytes, etc.) looks perfectly normal within range...
I've been dealing with recurring tonsillitis over the last few weeks. I went through two different rounds of antibiotics; they provided some relief, but then the inflammation just crawled right back...
The doctor didn't even bother ordering a throat culture; she just handed me a prescription and sent me on my way...🙂
Is there any actual reason to be worried here?

Hey there—has anyone here actually gone through the cold test and thermography before? I'm curious what they actually do during those parts of the exam. Thanks!

Can someone make sense of these results for me? Here’s what I’ve got:
urine volume—660cc
urea in urine—198 (ref: 150-280)
creatinine in urine—11253 mmol/l (no ref range provided)
creatinine clearance—49.69 cc/min (no ref range provided)
CPK u/L—302.3 (up to 170)
LDH u/L—313 (120-240)
Everything else looks fine.
My internist wants me to redo the full 24-hour urine collection just to see if my output was actually that low or if it was just a one-off fluke. On that specific day, my diet and hydration were totally normal—nothing out of the ordinary. Now I'm going to try upping my fluid intake before I repeat the tests, but honestly, I’m losing my mind here. That creatinine clearance doesn't seem that high, and neither does the urine creatinine, but I don't really trust it since there aren't any reference values listed. If everything were perfectly normal, wouldn't those numbers be basically zero? Can anyone explain this to me? Please, I'm waiting on this. My ultrasound came back clear, though.

You'll likely be getting a subcutaneous injection—you know, under the skin—to help thin your blood so there isn't any risk of blood clots forming. Honestly, it's really nothing to worry about! It's not painful at all, and you'll probably just get another round of them after the surgery too. I hope that helps clear things up a bit!

hey everyone - could someone please help me make sense of this?
radiology report - MSCT PNS
The frontal sinus is normally pneumatized, there are no signs of bone destruction, and no evidence of any pathological substrate within the sinus cavity.
Ethmoid air cells are normally pneumatized, with septa showing appropriate thickness.
Nasal septum looks normal.
Conchal structures show moderate hypertrophy.
The right maxillary sinus shows a slight marginal thickening of about 0.4 mm in the supraalveolar area, but there's no sign of active fluid or any visible pathological substrate.
The findings point toward chronic reactive changes.
The left maxillary sinus is normally pneumatized, though there is one very slight thickening along the dorsal contour near the septum in the supraalveolar area.
Sphenoid sinus looks normal.
The visualized cells at the level of the mastoid appear normally pneumatized.

so, if anyone can translate this into plain English, I'd really appreciate it...😁

Alright, here is the breakdown. You had a scan called a MultiSliceCT of the paranasal sinuses.
This is a radiological imaging test, essentially a high-resolution CT scan. You didn't mention what symptoms you're dealing with or why your doctor ordered this MSCT in the first place.
In short, the report indicates some chronic inflammation in your right maxillary sinus. Bottom line: take these results to an ENT specialist (Ear, Nose, and Throat).
If there is anything else you need clarified, just ask.

Basically, that's just a fancy way of saying a multi-slice CT scan. You didn't mention what kind of symptoms you're dealing with or why your doctor sent you in for this in the first place.
The main thing is, the report shows chronic inflammation of the right maxillary sinus. Long story short... take these results to an ENT specialist.
If there's anything else you're wondering about, just ask.

Well, I pretty much already knew that because the pain is constant... though it's actually been a bit better lately, which is awesome. I don't get why they call it chronic though? I caught an infection back in March and have done two X-rays and this CT since then. My primary care doctor told me she's never seen a worse sinus scan in her life! But normally I haven't had huge issues with them (besides the constant runny nose from allergies), it's just started hurting lately.
Honestly, this report sounds great. I was expecting them to write something about cysts (since they saw two on the X-ray) or some weird metal plate at the base of my nose, so I thought maybe I was just special or getting abducted by aliens... haha. 😂
So, there's absolutely nothing mentioned about the metal or the cysts, right?
I know I probably sound silly not being able to read this myself, but yeah... 😵

Aside from my nose constantly running due to allergies, I haven't really had issues before, it's just this recent pain.
Well, this report is actually great news. I was bracing myself for them to mention cysts (since two showed up on the X-ray) or some kind of metal plate at the base of my nose, so I thought maybe I was special or had been abducted by aliens. 😂
So, there is absolutely nothing mentioned about metal or cysts, right?
I know I sound silly for not being able to interpret this myself, but here we are. 😵

A standard X-ray can be deceptive because it's a two-dimensional image; shadows from different tissues overlap. That metallic shadow you saw was likely just the shadow from dental implants overlapping (superimposing) over the nasal root in the projection. An MSCT is essentially a 2D technique that software converts into 3D, making it far more detailed and reliable.
The MSCT shows no unusual or dangerous abnormalities. As for the chronic sinusitis, it's likely either a complication from your allergies or purely allergic in nature. Regardless, you'll need to see an ENT specialist.
