Rebecca Edwards87 said:Now I have a question regarding this thread as well.
My cycles used to be quite regular, though they have shortened from 31 days down to 26 over the last few years. For the past couple of months, my period arrives almost exactly on schedule, but lately, it has been running a day or a day and a half late. To make matters worse, I’ve been experiencing pre-menstrual symptoms for nearly a week now. I take ibuprofen to manage the intense pain during the first two or three days, which helps slightly, but then there is almost no bleeding at all. It stays like this for days.
I am not pregnant.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
It feels too early to panic and schedule an appointment with my doctor—she is often swamped at the clinic, though she might see me sooner if I tell her it's an emergency, which doesn't seem to be the case here. Naturally, I will go if it doesn't start within the next few days.

You should ask for a thyroid hormone test. I dealt with a very similar situation caused by my thyroid, though my bleeding lasted a day or two less than yours.

Thanks for the reply. It finally started. So, we're talking just under a two-day delay. As for the cramps? Probably just some new version of PMS—it feels like I’m constantly coming up with new symptoms. 😵

I have Hashimoto and I've been on medication for 10.5 years now. My hormone levels are fine, but the antibodies? Still the same old story. Plus, they haven't touched my prescription in nearly five years.

Well, I experienced something similar before my Hashimoto diagnosis. Even though my hormone levels are stable and my antibodies are quite low since it's an early stage, my TSH is elevated due to my age, which makes my cycle unpredictable regardless. My ovulation used to be incredibly painful—something I had never felt before—almost like being stabbed in the ovaries. Perhaps you should ask them to check your sex hormones specifically? That is the only thing that comes to mind, given that Hashimoto (🙄) can certainly influence those levels.

Has anyone else dealt with brown spotting during their period? I used to get this back when I was younger, maybe like 10 days before my cycle actually started, but for almost a year now, my periods have just been consistently brown and way lighter than they used to be. They still last about the usual 5 or 6 days, and honestly, the cramps aren't even that bad anymore.
I actually had surgery recently to remove a cyst, so everything’s been checked out—ovaries look fine, uterus looks fine; the only thing left is dealing with some inflammation I need to make sure is fully cleared up, but otherwise, everything looked totally normal on the exam...

When I asked my doctor about it, he just brushed it off and said it's perfectly normal, but I don't know, it just doesn't feel right to me. :zbunj:

Ladies, I’ve had a bit of a clumsy moment.
I was removing the tampon I put in this morning before heading to work when I noticed an extra string left behind. 😲 It turns out that while I was changing my pad last night before bed, I completely missed the fact that I still had the one from earlier in the evening inside me; I essentially had a tampon in for over 12 hours without realizing it. 😲 I honestly have no idea how I could have been so oblivious. My heart nearly skipped a beat when it finally clicked. Nothing seemed unusual at the time, especially since my flow is usually quite light overnight, leaving my pads almost entirely clean.
Should I be concerned or start panicking?

Is there any way to kickstart my period naturally? Look, I actually started yesterday, but I need my next one to show up by June 4th at the absolute latest. I have a trip coming up—an actual vacation!—and I refuse to let my cycle ruin the whole experience. I am not dealing with bloating, that heavy, sluggish feeling, or any of that nonsense while I'm trying to enjoy myself... absolutely not.
I’ve been doing some reading and seen mentions of parsley tea, high doses of Vitamin C, ginger tea, and I’ve even started taking evening primrose oil. Does anyone actually know of something that works—something truly effective—that could pull my next cycle forward by maybe five or six days?

Question for the group. My period started when I was eleven—irregular cycles, the usual chaos. I eventually got pregnant, had a baby, and for about seven or eight months postpartum, everything seemed fine; I had regular 28 to 29-day cycles. Then, last December, my period skipped nearly an entire month. Pregnancy was off the table, so my OBGYN prescribed Duphaston. It worked; my period arrived, lasted five days, and moved on. In January, it skipped again, so I took the Duphaston once more and it showed up... but now, it happens every single month, consistently late by two or three days, and the flow has become much lighter and brownish. It used to last five days—barely anything on day one, a decent amount on days two and three, a little on the fourth, and then maybe a bit more on the fifth, followed by a day or two of brown discharge. Now? Day one is light and brownish, but on day two, it’s like someone opened a dam. Days three, four, and five are just brown discharge, and during my last cycle, it was actually black. I haven't gone back to the doctor to ask because the last time she told me to stop reading random things online... I definitely plan to see her soon regarding birth control, but I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this? Has anyone had periods that were perfectly normal and then suddenly became short and brownish?

Hey everyone, I wanted to pick your brains for a second...

I’ve been dealing with periods since I was twelve. Always heavy, always long cycles.
Back in the day, I dealt with PCOS too. I have three kids—one was a miscarriage—but my cycle always drifted back to those long, heavy patterns.
Then, last summer, I noticed things shifting; my cycles started hitting that 28-day mark, maybe dropping down to 25 or 26 days.
So, come autumn, I decided to go with the Mirena.
Big mistake. The bleeding just stretched out to 14, 15, maybe 16 days, and the whole cycle dropped to 20-25 days. Can you even imagine how much fun that was?
To top it all off, I developed a massive ovarian cyst.
So, I had the Mirena pulled out.

Okay, here’s what I actually need help with:
My period started on June 14th, and then on the 19th, I had the device removed. My doctor told me it would cause minimal disruption to my cycle, right?
Well, I bled for two weeks straight after it was out. I went in for a checkup a week after the removal, and they just gave me some "don't worry, this is normal" blah blah blah.
The bleeding finally seemed to stop around Monday or Tuesday, but then yesterday, it’s fresh blood again.
By this afternoon, it had dwindled down to just a tiny bit of brown discharge.
Now I'm sitting here wondering—is this my actual period? Is it already? Or is this just more lingering fallout from the Mirena?
Seriously, what am I even supposed to do?!

And of course, finding a gynecologist during peak vacation season in the States is basically impossible.

I gave my wife some Femisan A drops, and since she started taking half the recommended daily dose, her period pains have vanished and her cycle has completely leveled out. We actually found a contact to order a year's supply—12 bottles—directly from Mexico. If you're wondering why we bother ordering from there, it’s simple math: they cost about $8 or $20 per bottle, whereas here in the States, they go for $33, which is nearly double. Honestly, my advice is to stop lining the pockets of greedy pharmacists and middlemen; it’s honestly disgusting. Whenever I can, I just order everything from abroad via eBay or Iherba. You can save up to 50% compared to what you'd pay in the US😵

Hey, I need some advice.

My cycles have always been short—usually around 24 days. My luteal phase is brief, but everything was fine. I managed to get pregnant without any issues after trying for a few months, though the pregnancy ended up being high-risk due to a hematoma.

Right after that pregnancy, my cycles went back to their old pattern, and they stayed that way until this month. This time, I got my period on day 25, but now I’ve been bleeding for 10 days straight. I saw my OB-GYN on day 7 because I had a scheduled checkup; he did an exam and said there's some kind of imbalance going on. He mentioned if this continues for another week, we might have to use hormones to stop it. Since I live near the coast, the temptation to go swimming is huge, but I hate bathing while on my period anyway. Still, I don't want to mess around because we are planning for another pregnancy. What would you do if you were me?
I should mention that things have been incredibly stressful lately.

Hey there, I have a quick question.

My periods are just completely all over the place—my cycles tend to swing anywhere from 35 to 50 days, depending on the month. It’s honestly starting to get to me; I find it so incredibly frustrating because every thirty days or so, I feel like it’s finally coming—I get these sharp pains in my ovaries and my lower back, everything just aches, and I have that unmistakable feeling that it’s about to start... only to head to the bathroom and find nothing happening. Sometimes it lingers like that for up to two weeks, where I end up going through more pads just dealing with the symptoms than I actually do during the period itself. It’s almost as if my body is fully prepared for the arrival of royalty, yet she simply refuses to make her entrance. Is anyone else dealing with something similar?

Sometimes this limbo lasts for up to two weeks—I end up burning through more pads just waiting for the actual flow to start. It feels like my entire body is rolling out the red carpet for the queen, but she just refuses to show up. Does anyone else deal with this kind of thing?

Has anyone had success using sage, parsley, ginger, or other herbal teas to help induce a period or get things moving a little earlier?

Maybe try pairing the pedestal with the tabletop... I stumbled upon an article about doing exactly that online, take a look 🙂

I've been dealing with something pretty similar for about a year now... My ovaries are fine and my last Pap smear was clear. I even mentioned it casually to my gynecologist during our appointment, but she didn't even blink.

Starting a new thread here because I could really use some advice or shared experiences regarding early periods. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Basically, I ended up getting my period just 10 days after my last one finished. 👎

And honestly, it doesn't even feel like a normal cycle. I’m not hitting any of my usual symptoms—no breakouts, no mood swings, no cravings, no cramps, nothing. My legs don't feel heavy, my digestion is fine, and even the texture is different; it doesn't have those typical clots like it usually does.
The blood looks way brighter/redder too. For the first three days, the bleeding was super light, but then it picked up on the fourth and fifth day. It’s still going, and today is day five.

I actually just had my annual physical and routine urinalysis done two days ago, and everything came back perfectly normal.

I’m definitely planning to see my OB-GYN, but I need to wait for this episode to pass first. In the meantime, I'm feeling a little anxious and just hoping it isn't anything serious.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Any idea what might be causing this?

Your best bet is talking to an OB-GYN. It could be anything from an infection, stress, bad diet, or working out too hard, all the way down to things like cancer or an ectopic pregnancy.

Why on earth would you just sit there waiting?
I mean, seriously, if you’re dealing with bleeding this heavy and this bright, you shouldn't be playing the waiting game at all—that's a straight-up trip to the ER or Planned Parenthood, not something you just put off until later.

If you're in New York City, you can always hit up an on-call doctor, but my advice? Just go to the ER. Don't mess around with this stuff.

They probably won't do a full exam right away, but they can at least explain what's going on.
