QUESTION:
So, my cycle has always been super predictable, right? Like clockwork. But this month, I’m already seven days late, and before anyone even thinks about asking—no, I am definitely not pregnant because that isn't even an option for me right now. I’ve been reading up on it and everyone keeps pointing at stress, but honestly, life has been pretty chill lately, so that doesn't really add up. To make things even more confusing, I actually ran a fever recently... could that be related somehow? Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

My cycle has always been regular, but I'm already seven days late this month. Pregnancy isn't an option since I haven't been sexually active. I read that stress can cause delays, but I haven't been under any pressure lately. I also recently ran a fever; could there be a connection? What is going on?

I am not entirely sure how old you are, but regardless of your age, it is perfectly normal for a period to be late occasionally. Stress isn't the only culprit; there are a thousand different reasons. For instance, even a minor illness—like the fever you mentioned—could play a role, or perhaps a slight inflammation from sitting in a cold draft or something similar. I could list possibilities all day, but there is really no reason to panic. It is all quite nooooooormally within the realm of possibility. Don't worry about it too much.🙂

Hey ladies,

Quick question: how likely is it to be pregnant but still get your period?
And how does that even happen?

Thanks in advance!🙂

It is possible to have bleeding and be pregnant, though it's uncommon.

A friend of mine went through this.

It’s funny how women always have this nagging subconscious fear whenever our periods act weird. Last month, mine dragged on for a day and a half longer than usual, and now I’m sitting here waiting for it to show up tomorrow or the day after. I’m definitely not pregnant—I know exactly what I was doing that month—but reading stuff like this still triggers a little bit of paranoia. Like the other day, I saw a post on a forum where a woman had a seven-day period along with some nausea, so she took a pregnancy test just for kicks even though she didn't want to waste the money. Turns out she was pregnant. Honestly, I almost fell off my chair reading that.😲🙄So yeah, anything can happen. If you notice something off, just take a test to stop the doubting. Personally, I don't have any symptoms, so I'm just calmly waiting for my monthly visitor.😛😁People were talking about spotting during pregnancy on this forum last year too. Usually, it's just very light spotting, though occasionally someone mistakes actual bleeding for their period.☕

Henry Brown94 said:I’ve been scouring the internet for information regarding menstrual cycles and various irregularities, but honestly, sometimes the sheer volume of data out there is just overwhelming and frankly a bit intimidating. I have a specific question. I was on Yasmin for about fourteen months, and I stopped taking it seven months ago. However, for the last twelve months, my cycle has been all over the place. My period was supposed to arrive at the start of December, but it didn't show up until late February, and since then, absolutely nothing. I can't figure out if my body is still just trying to find its rhythm again or if these pills have caused some lasting issues. When the delay first happened, I completely panicked—I ended up taking five different pregnancy tests and rushed to see my OB-GYN. It turns out I wasn't pregnant, but the doctor prescribed me more medication, which I'm really hesitant to take because, once again, we're talking about messing with hormones. Up until now, my flow has been fine, but I'm getting worried because now my periods are starting to skip entirely. On top of that, I never really struggled with PMS before, but lately, the mood swings are driving me insane; one minute I'm bursting into tears and the next I'm laughing hysterically out of pure frustration. It's a total emotional rollercoaster. Has anyone else dealt with anything like this???

In my opinion, it's perfectly normal for things to take some time to stabilize and return to a baseline, especially since you are essentially playing a delicate game with your hormones. If the uncertainty is weighing too heavily on you, though, I'd suggest seeking a second opinion from a different OB-GYN just to see what they have to say.

I'm dealing with something similar to what redpilot37 mentioned...

About four months ago, I stopped taking birth control. Since then, my periods have been running late—nothing major, just by about 4 to 8 days. I used to deal with PCOS anyway, so my cycle was always unpredictable back then...

But here's the thing. My period was due about ten days ago, and it still hasn't arrived. That isn't even the main issue—it's the symptoms. I had abdominal pain, ovarian cramps, and sharp pains in my lower back, exactly how it feels right before my period starts. Then, for two or three days, I had this dark brown discharge—similar to what I usually get a few hours before my actual flow starts—and when I wiped, there were just tiny red spots. Now I'm confused. I also had terrible PMS; usually, my diet affects my symptoms, but food didn't seem to make a difference this time...

I started drinking herbal tea meant to regulate menstrual cycles. Could that be causing this?
Or is it possible my body is still just adjusting to being off the pill?
Thanks 🙂

Hey everyone!
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few months now, and this month was a total rollercoaster because I was feeling all those classic pregnancy symptoms, but then my period still showed up anyway... It only lasted two days instead of my usual four, and the blood was really dark. What’s actually freaking me out, though, is that I passed these two huge chunks/clots—they looked honestly gross, kind of like pieces of chicken liver... 😕Has anyone else gone through something like this or does anyone know what might be going on? This has never happened to me before.

Vivian, it’s perfectly normal for things to take a moment to settle after being on the pill. Everyone reacts differently; we aren't all built the same. However, I’m a bit confused by your mention of having PCOS in the past. What exactly do you mean by "before"? I'm not sure how to interpret that—are you implying it's gone now? That's a bit of a larger issue, as PCOS doesn't just vanish overnight. Besides, irregular cycles after stopping birth control is actually a common symptom of PCOS itself. My apologies, perhaps I simply misunderstood your point.🤷

If you're dealing with PCOS, your cycle length is probably going to be all over the place now that you've stopped the pill. That PMS feeling might not actually mean anything specific, either; personally, my symptoms can drag on for a month straight. 🙄🙄 Plus, those pains could just be ovulation hitting you. I know some women who don't even get a period without hormone supplements like Provera or progesterone. It might be worth scheduling an appointment with your OB-GYN to talk things through and maybe get some blood work done, just to see what's actually happening. I know it’s stressful, but I guess you should try not to spiral too much.👍

So, I’ve noticed my cycle has been getting way shorter lately. It’s hitting me every 20 days now—counting from the first day to the next one... this has been going on for about 12 months.
Just sitting here waiting on my doctor's appointment results, wondering if anyone else has dealt with this or knows what might be up?
I’m 30, and honestly, nothing in my lifestyle has changed at all. 🤷

While I wait for my gynecologist's results, does anyone know more about this?
I'm 30 years old, and I haven't changed my lifestyle at all. 🤷

It's called polymenorrhea—it isn't necessarily dangerous, though if the cycle drops below 20 days, ovulation might be skipped. Your doctor might suggest some light estrogen replacement therapy just to make sure you don't end up anemic from bleeding so frequently.

The most common culprit is our old friend, stress. 😁 🙂

My period usually lasts about five days.
This month, however, I have been bleeding for fourteen days straight, and it shows no sign of stopping—the flow and the pain remain just as intense as usual.
I have an appointment with my gynecologist later this week, but does anyone know what might be causing this? I want to be prepared.

How old are you? Are you on birth control? Also, how long is your cycle normally, and do you track your ovulation?

I am 22 years old and I do not take birth control 🤷
I don't understand much about ovulation or cycles; all I know is that my period has lasted five days for years now.

I don't really get how ovulation or cycles work—all I know is my period has been lasting about 5 days for years now.

When did you get your first period?
It’s possible that if you started late, you might have these occasional "glitches"—especially if you're dealing with stress.

Either way, that doesn't sound like light bleeding, so you should probably check in with a doctor... and maybe start taking some iron and multivitamins.
