yeah, okay—but which scene is the ultimate cliché? for me, it’s definitely Hostel 2 when that girl gets her hair sliced off and starts washing up in blood!!! but honestly? it's such a blast to watch regardless. Hostel 2 absolutely rips. 😍

Anyone seen "I Spit on Your Grave"?

That castration scene in the bubble bath.

Rape scenes. I can't stand seeing them on screen. Between pedophilia and all the other depravities humanity is capable of, it just makes me sick.

What’s even the point of making movies that condemn rape and just paint men as total animals? Think about stuff like Irreversible or I Spit on Your Grave.
I mean, yeah, rape is terrible. Big fucking discovery there...
It’s kind of like how Altman's ready-to-wear critique showed us that the fashion industry is just mindless, shallow, and packed with divas obsessed with their own reflection.

Jamie Wood5 said:Guinea Pig—it’s this Japanese series spread across four or five parts... honestly, people call them snuff films, but they basically *are* the real thing. You have these women tied up, and then it just goes from there: torture, sexual assault, and so on, all the way until death. It is absolutely deranged. 🙂
The first installment was filmed back in the 80s, and for a few years, everyone genuinely believed it was an actual snuff film. I even read somewhere that Charlie Sheen watched it, passed out cold, and then rushed straight to the FBI to report that he had witnessed a real snuff film. 😂

If I had to pick one from that series, I’d go with Flower of Flesh and Blood—just brutal

wearytinker8 said:That's actually Ruggero Deodato, the director behind that cannibal classic "Cannibal Holocaust" from 1980. I think someone already brought him up in here. As for the scene itself, it was lifted from "Waxwork," which I mentioned back in my first post.

Smart move bringing him into this. Thanks, I'll see if I can track those movies down.

I can practically list half the movies out there just so I know which ones to steer clear of...
But if we’re talking about what truly gets under my skin—the stuff that genuinely rattles me—
The Matrix! Specifically those scenes where that weird tech enters through the navel...
Panov Labyrinth, with that visceral imagery of legs being severed and faces being crushed...
Marathon Runner, with all that dental horror...
And American History X, that scene where the man bites the stair...
...I suppose I'm just a sensitive soul... hehe

I mean, seriously... the rape, the impalement, people literally burying someone alive until they hit their guts—it’s all over the place. And the crazy part? They actually marketed it as being real footage. 👍

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078935/

I have to agree; this is easily one of the greatest films ever made.

So, what exactly is it about those scenes that draws you people in? I’ve always found this fascinating—how one person might be physically repulsed by something (that's certainly me), while someone else is practically swooning over it.🤷

Between the rapes, the impalements, and burying people alive up to their guts... and they even filmed it to look realistic.

jaqen h'ghar um, yeah, and which scene is the biggest cliché??? Hostel 2, when the woman slaughters the other girl using her own hair and washes herself in the blood!!! But man, it's such a thrill to watch, despite everything!!!

It's because certain people love seeing their traditional emotional triggers attacked... they use movies like that as a way to vent and act out their resentment toward society.
And then there are others who are just sick, and those scenes actually turn them on.

Yeah. That slow descent into madness? It’s not even as bad as that scene toward the end where the guy grabs a heavy fire extinguisher and just starts whaling on the other dude. He doesn't stop. It's not just that his face is totally mangled; we're talking raw flesh and a shattered skull. And the camera? It doesn't even flinch. Just stays right there.
The sound design is brutal—you can practically hear the heavy metal crushing bone.
Disturbing.
Then you've got a crowd of guys swarming the scene (kind of like those wild fights you see in movies where everyone starts cheering), stripping down, and jerking off to the chaos.

Priceless!

Olivia Newman68 said:hm, Zafranovic’s "Occupation in 26 Frames" actually hits pretty hard; that bus torture scene is especially brutal... they're driving nails into heads, slicing up tongues and chests, and there are sledgehammers involved too...

Even our Conductor with Brando has stuff like that.

hollowsailor19 said:It’s not torture, just a scene from Fight Club where Norton absolutely demolishes a guy's head with a floorboard (it gets brutal)

Personally, I found the tension in history x even more shocking, even if they don't explicitly show it.

Yeah, and that scene where Hannibal cracks open his victim's skull while he's drugged out is just nasty. They're actually messing with him. Just being total bulazniti about his future career.
Hannibal talks about prepping dinner, and the guy is just sitting there going "nom, nom."
Then he carves off a little piece of brain and splashes some oil to see if it's hot enough to fry.
Finally, he offers the fried bit to his "host" to see if he likes the meal, and the guy thinks it's delicious.🙂

Jesse Ortiz4 said:And the soundtrack in Irreversible is basically designed to make you want to barf (especially in those first 20 minutes). That, combined with the jittery, nervous camerawork, is why people were losing it 😍

The first 30 minutes of the film features this low-frequency background hum at 28Hz—it’s almost inaudible, kind of like the vibration you feel right before an earthquake hits. In humans, that kind of sound triggers nausea, sickness, and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. Honestly, they added it on purpose just to get that exact reaction

all I know is that I felt terrible during the first half hour... probably because I knocked back two beers right before it started. After thirty minutes though, I kind of got used to needing a bathroom break (honestly, I was too invested in the movie to leave for a pee).😁

wearytinker8 said:The couple in "Irreversible" actually played husband and wife in real life, too. Which makes me wonder how the director even convinced him to sit there while that disgusting creep spends ten minutes assaulting her and grabbing at her...
If a director ever pitched something like that to me, I’d probably lose my mind.

Honestly, who cares? It’s just how it happened. He unzips, things are hanging out, then he goes at it and connects with her. Then after a bit... he pulls out and you can see he's hard. Then he starts again.
I don't know, it's hard to imagine they could have faked that level of intensity. When he's riding her and moving his hips like that, where else would he be if he wasn't inside her?

Honestly, you can't beat the latest James Bond flick.

You know, that whole scene involving the chair, a rope, and a certain... sensitive area?😁

Well, that's not quite how it went down.
The first (and only) time you actually see it is once he finally gets off her at the end.
And you can clearly tell he only pulled it out right as he was sliding down, just so people would think he had it out the whole time.
Basically, he was fucking her through his pants. But even that feels like a stretch.
I just don't get how he stayed limp. I mean, Monica Bellucci is right there in front of him, for God's sake.
He must be gay.

All the torment across every installment of Hellraiser. My favorite line has to be: "Fear is where you go to learn."

Even if an earthquake hit mid-scene... your first instinct would probably still be to look for a bathroom...😁

What I am curious about is whether there are any other films out there that have utilized this specific frequency to enhance the sense of surrealism for the audience?
