I usually expect this kind of stuff in horror movies, but this one actually hit me where it hurts. I can't even remember which flick had that scene where they just hammer away at a guy's hands and fingers—ugh, brutal.

There’s a ton of stuff out there, but this is what’s stuck in my head right now.

It’s even worse when you see torture in a drama or something similar. I remember watching a war movie a long time ago where they tortured a girl. This hits home.

Irreversible LOL - the anal rape scene🤮

Man, that was just straight-up brutal. Between the music nearly driving me insane and those aggressive lights...
the whole movie is basically just pure torture.

Since we're all sitting here impatiently waiting for "Saw IV," I figured it was high time to revisit some of the most legendary torture sequences ever put on screen.

10. Hostel (2005)

Let's kick things off with the flick that dragged the sadistic genre back into the spotlight. While the torment in both sequels is hard to forget, I’ll stick to the first one, where a charming, middle-aged Dutchman gets to play with a terrified young American; first, he goes to town on the kid's knee with a drill, then slices through his Achilles tendons and just lets him go. The kid actually believes he's free, which leads to a few agonizing seconds...
...where our unlucky protagonist desperately tries to scramble toward an exit, only for this absolute piece of trash to drag him back and play surgeon on his body for a bit longer.

9. Ichi the Killer (2001)

A sadistic psycho with slits cut in his throat—just enough to blow cigarette smoke through—decides to extract information in a pretty "original" way; he hangs a guy on hooks (kind of like those scenes you see in India), stabs him through the beard and cheeks with a massive needle, and pours boiling oil (the same stuff he used for his shrimp earlier) all over his back.

8. The Wild Bunch (1969)

People in the American West certainly have their own unique ways of dealing with enemies...
To liven up a rural party, they decide to tie a prisoner to a wagon and drag him through the dirt all day long, while kids ride over him, splash him with water, and mess with him using sprayers.

7. Waxwork (1988)

In this 80s horror flick, there's one particularly striking scene; vampires in a castle basement hold a bound victim, condemned to eternal misery, from whose legs they tear off pieces of meat every single day for dinner.

6. Tango & Cash (1989)

Out of the mountain of unforgettable torture from 80s action movies ("Rambo: First Blood Part II," "Lethal Weapon," "Nico," "Showdown in Little Tokyo"), I decided to go with this witty duo who get tortured in prison with electricity and water... honestly, all they needed was a gas leak to complete the whole utility infrastructure nightmare.

5. Marathon Man (1976)

In this thriller, alongside Steve Martin from "Little Shop of Horrors," we have the darkest dentist in cinematic history (played by Laurence Olivier) using his dental expertise to try and squeeze vital info out of a confused Dustin Hoffman.

4. Reservoir Dogs (1992)

An indifferent Mr. Blonde, right before he starts the heavy lifting, gives the cop a little advice: "Pray for a quick death that isn't coming," followed by a slapping, an ear slicing, and being doused in gasoline...

3. Braveheart (1995)

Even if the real William Wallace was a thief and a killer of innocents, it didn't stop us from shedding a tear while those corrupt Englishmen hung him, stretched him, and ripped his guts out. All he had to do was say "Mercy"...

2. Audition (1999)

Along with "Hard Candy" from 2005, this is easily one of the most traumatic films for men, after which I'm convinced you might find yourself appreciating women just a little bit more.
Basically, a girl who has had enough of being abused decides to take her revenge in a truly cruel and terrifying way; she takes a male pig who approached her through a fake audition and paralyzes his body (and his tongue, so he can't scream), while leaving his nerves fully intact so he can sit there and soak in the pain while she jams needles into his stomach and eyes and gently saws at his feet with wire.

1. Saw III (2006)

The "Saw" franchise really took torture to a whole new level. The thing is, the tormentor doesn't even have to break a sweat doing the actual work (which is usually exhausting); instead, he can just...
...lean back in his chair and enjoy watching the victims struggle to escape while exposing themselves to all sorts of agony.
While every single torture in the first three films deserves its moment, the one I find myself thinking about most is the last one in the third installment; a man is strapped to a medieval-looking device that slowly rotates, tearing apart his limbs first, and finally his neck.
Even Jigsaw admitted it was his favorite setup.

Anyway, if any of you can think of something else, feel free to chime in.
And don't forget to pack a barf bag before you head to the theater.

In reality, things were way worse and lasted way longer, but I can't quite remember the details...

Yeah, because Americans really prioritized the dignity of death row inmates back then.
Basically, right after the trial, Wallace was hauled out of the courtroom, stripped naked, tied to a horse, and dragged to the execution site.
They hanged him there, but made sure he didn't accidentally die too soon.
After that, they cut off his genitals and pulled out his entrails, which they burned right in front of him.
Once they realized there was no point in torturing him anymore, they chopped his head off and dismembered him.

Man, those were the days. If we had punishments like that today, people like Zuzak or Chusic wouldn't even exist...

If you thought "Irreversible LOL" was torture, try sitting through Noeov's segment "WE fuck alone" in that compilation flick "Destricted" (2006).
I barely made it past five seconds.
That guy... if there's even a word for it... he's just not right in the head.

In the live-action movie "The Girl Next Door," there is one of the most bizarre torture sequences ever filmed, set in a basement. A girl from the neighborhood is tormented by family members led by her own depraved mother. It involves being bound, stripped naked in front of everyone, rape, being branded with a red-hot wire on the stomach, and finally, having her clitoris burned with a blowtorch. Someone on this forum previously claimed that certain films served as inspiration for criminals, but here, the situation is reversed: the movie was actually based on a true story. You can download a ten-minute clip featuring selected scenes of the torture at the link below. My advice is to watch it from the beginning, slowly, without skipping ahead, just to fully absorb the atmosphere... Several movies have been made using this same script, but this particular "underground" version is impossible to find anywhere except through torrent collectors due to its foul language, underage sexual content, and hauntingly brutal scenes. The director and the cinematography truly did an exceptional job.

Here is a compilation of clips from episode three of the American series "Unconquered City," titled "black leather bag." It features scenes of torture including stripping a guy down, tying him up, putting him in a suspension chair, beating his soles and toes, burning his stomach with a desk lamp, and finally bringing in Charles, because "Charles is always hungry."

A torture scene from a Chilean film, I believe it's called "Garage Olimpo," and a torture scene from some Brazilian movie, though the title escapes me.

Interesting topic, unfortunately:

Koroshiya 1 (2001) - that scene where Kakihara tortures that poor guy, stabbing him, pouring stuff on him... a solid ten out of ten. (Maybe check out Imprint by the same director; there's a scene involving needles under fingernails that stands out.) 👍

Guinea Pig : Flowers of Flesh and Blood (1985) - the whole movie is basically just a torture scene. Only for people with really strong stomachs, I guess. 👎

August Underground's Mordum (2003) - just massive creeps raping and butchering corpses. Honestly, the most disgusting piece of trash I've ever watched. If you aren't into that, you're better off skipping it entirely. 👎

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) - besides the turtle being killed, there's that scene with the guts. It's a revolting film, but it’s actually more than just sadism and torture porn. It kind of makes you wonder if modern civilization is any more humane than life in the wild. 👍

Sodom (1975) - the entire film is filled with the torture of children. Everything from sexual assault to brutal violence. It tries to have an artistic note, maybe, but it's probably better not to watch it. 👎

Hei tai yang 731 (1988) / Philosophy of a Knife (2008) - they deal with historical events. Brutal, violent, and pretty heavy. 👎

Martyrs (2008) - even though some clueless people call it torture porn, it's actually much more than that. Sure, there's torture, but any horror fan really should see it. 👍

A few others worth mentioning:
Irreversible LOL (2002)
Day of the Woman (1978)
The Last House on the Left (2009)
Nekromantik (1987)
...

Chloe Smith11 said:I can't help but wonder if that scene where the cop tortures the guy who was actually the muscle for Bruce Willis could have been filmed in some kind of gritty cinematic version of Hell. In that scenario, the guy would probably vow revenge by promising to bring in two drug dealers to "interrogate" him using nothing but heavy-duty pliers and a flashlight. I suppose that would have made for a pretty unforgettable moment, wouldn't it?

👍
I'm right there with you on that one! I'd love to see that too.

Jesus in the Passion—it was depicted perfectly for me, nothing felt excessive, just a genuinely moving experience watching everything play out exactly as described in the text.
And Mel Gibson Can read Women s minds, you know, that actually scares me 🙏😂😂 😂

Absolutely. I watched it the other night, and certain scenes are genuinely disturbing, regardless of how fairy-tale-like the rest of the episode feels.
Beyond that, my favorites have to be Ichi the Killer; I’ve mentioned before that I’m obsessed with Kakihara—that needle scene is priceless.
Then there is Miikeov Audition; setting everything else aside, the dog bowl scene is nothing short of masterful.
And it would be foolish not to mention Oldboy, which remains my favorite film. In this instance, it isn't even about the physical torture, but rather the psychological agony that Dae Su has to endure.

For me, watching that treatment leading up to it was even more nauseating—you know, those first thirty minutes or so. 😢
