Five days ago, I noticed some kind of mucus while urinating in the restroom. It happened again last night. It is transparent, colorless, and odorless; it isn't sticky or purulent. It looks most similar to ovulation mucus. However, I have been on birth control pills for years, so I don't experience ovulation or ovulation mucus. It certainly isn't leftover semen 😉 nor is it caused by arousal. Believe me, I know the difference and can distinguish all of those things perfectly well. 🙂 What could this be? I honestly don't have any other symptoms at all. No yeast infections, no itching, no burning, no discharge, no pain, no tension—nothing, absolutely nothing. It is just this mucus that seems to descend with the stream of urine, and when I wipe with toilet paper, it remains on the paper. I can feel myself collecting it from the inside 😁 Just like ovulation mucus...
I am not unintelligent, but I feel like an idiot because I truly have no idea what this could be. 🤷
Any help? 😁

You explained that so beautifully, and you actually beat me to it because I was just about to ask you the same thing.😁
Personally, I would wait a few more days—trying my best not to spiral into a panic—and if this persists, there really isn't much else to do but head to the clinic (mine hasn't been answering her phone😠).
Certain changes happen in the body, and generally speaking, that cervical mucus is simply a product of hormones, provided any inflammation has cleared up.
If you’ve recently switched the type of pills you're taking, that could very well be the culprit.🤷
In the absolute worst-case scenario, we are talking about cytological changes in the uterus, cervix, or vagina, but in my opinion as a layman, you aren't going to die from an abnormal Pap test or various swabs. Just don't panic, and seek professional medical advice if it lasts!!

I am not panicking just yet.😁
I haven't changed any pills, nor have I altered any other habits or anything like that.
The only thing is that I've been feeling incredibly hyper, restless, and high-strung over the last ten days or so.🤣 That's it—just hormones...😁
I was actually planning on going to the gynecologist this Monday or Tuesday for a standard full check-up anyway, but mine hasn't called me back either!😠

So, I'm 16, and my cycles are usually pretty regular, but lately, I’ve had this weird spotting happen right after my period ends. The first time was a few months back—after about 5 or 6 days, I noticed some blood, though not a ton, and then it just stopped pretty quickly. Then it happened again, this time just two days after my last period finished, where I had this clear discharge mixed with some blood. Again, it didn't last long.
I also noticed the color of the blood looks different now, like it's a really bright, vivid red. I don't know if that actually matters or not. My immune system is kind of trash and I'm super low on iron, haha.

I guess I'm just wondering... is this normal? Has this ever happened to any of you? I'm a little worried because I know it could potentially point to something more serious. I honestly can't decide if I should just go see a doctor or if I should wait and see. Thanks in advance.

I have a quick question, if I’ve managed to understand everything correctly from reading the posts about Canesten—can you actually buy the vaginal cream over the counter without a prescription????
I assume there must be some mention somewhere regarding how exactly one is supposed to apply it??
Thank you 🙂

I’ve got a massive amount of white discharge. I had sex, and now my period is two weeks late. But this discharge—it's what's actually worrying me. It is honestly huge. So much so that it soaks through my underwear and leaves a visible wet spot on my jeans. Could this be a pregnancy symptom, or just some kind of yeast infection?

They aren't actually mucus—if we’re being precise—because what you're looking at is characterized by this white discharge, a sort of curdled "residue" that is intensely white (almost cottage cheese-like) and tends to come accompanied by symptoms like stinging and itching.

Lawrence Torres22, you should know that you can pick up Canesten in just about any form without needing a prescription from your doctor.

I have a question, so if anyone knows, please help me out! 🙄 I’m not sure if this discharge is normal—it seems white now. 🙂 A few days ago, it was clear, just like water, but now it’s turned white, though still watery, and there's an unpleasant smell... I’ve been drinking herbal teas, which helped for a bit, but then it came right back. I don't have any itching or pain, though. Is this some kind of inflammation? Should I see a gynecologist? And is there any chance this could be an STI from sex? Also, are there any feminine washes I can get without needing a doctor's visit first? Thanks! 🙂

Susan Alvarez84 said:You’re absolutely spot on that most of these things are asymptomatic, but I have to disagree regarding Gardnerella. That specific issue produces a fishy odor that is just awful, no matter how much you wash. Honestly, I don't think even industrial-strength bleach 🤣 would touch it. It’s very noticeable when you’re sitting next to someone dealing with it. I'm speaking from experience here; I never noticed that particular scent in other women until I went through it myself. Since then, I can sit next to a woman and immediately think, "Wow, something's definitely wrong." Because of all this, I've banned myself from using Always pads or those other plastic-heavy brands. I dealt with issues for a few months right after my period ended. My gynecologist told me straight away it was likely caused by the pads, though I couldn't pinpoint which ones at the time since I had about twelve different brands in my bathroom cabinet. Now, I strictly use the ones without the plastic mesh lining, and I haven't had a single recurrence since.

Does anyone know why I’m noticing this? It’s not even a fishy smell—it’s just this weird scent. I can literally smell it while I’m just sitting there, fully dressed and clean. It seems to disappear after I drink some tea, but then it comes right back after sex. Any ideas?

That isn't white discharge. What you're describing sounds more like a characteristic of fungi—specifically Candida, which is a natural inhabitant of the body, though sometimes it decides to "go wild." Real white discharge from yeast is usually thick and clumpy, always white, maybe slightly yellowish depending on hygiene 😍, and it’s almost always accompanied by the classic symptoms: itching and burning. When you wipe after using the bathroom, you’ll see those actual little white bits.

What you have seems to be some sort of bacterial infection, and that unpleasant odor is a very strong indicator of that. To actually treat this (which would involve antibiotics and appropriate vaginal suppositories), you really need to see a gynecologist so they can figure out exactly what's going on first. Most likely, alongside the pelvic exam, they’ll take a swab to check for anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. Don't mess around with this, because those little bugs down there can be incredibly sneaky. There is really no point in just grabbing something over the counter to temporarily mask the symptoms. 🙂

But, I'm curious about this... With my long-term ex, I would get that exact discharge a few days after sex... and I managed to clear it up with herbal teas for yeast infections. Now, I've been in a long-term relationship with someone else, and lately, I'm getting that same discharge again a few days after sex. Is it possible I passed something to him? That's why I'm asking—could this be some kind of STD?

It’s absolutely possible—and honestly, you could end up in this endless ping-pong cycle where you get cleared, but since he’s still carrying the infection, he just passes it right back to you. It’s an exhausting loop. I don't know if you were using protection in your previous relationship or this current one, but please, just make it a rule from here on out. Before that, though, you really ought to see a gynecologist to pinpoint the actual cause; some of these bacterial issues are nothing to mess around with. I'm also not sure what kind of herbal teas you've been sipping on, but in my experience, most of those just mask the symptoms rather than actually tackling the root of the problem.

I wasn't using condoms, but once things settle down with me, I'll start. That way I can see if he's passing it back to me... but men will be men, they won't say a word about it.😉 I was drinking that tea for white discharge—that's literally what it's called and you buy it at the pharmacy. It helped me a ton... but honestly, he probably gave it back to me since I was fine for a little while before this happened again. Thanks for the advice, bye!🙂

🙂 You can't really judge anything based on that—how is he even supposed to know if things are back to normal if you don't actually know what you're dealing with or if it’s even cleared up? Besides, you mentioned yourself that you dealt with this in your previous relationship. Bacteria like *Gardnerella vaginalis* (which presents with very similar symptoms), microorganisms such as *Ureaplasma* and *Mycoplasma*, or even dangerous *Chlamydia* are incredibly sneaky; you aren't going to wipe them out with some herbal tea for "vaginal health" or anything like that—not 100%, anyway. Honestly, while you're currently dealing with this, you absolutely should be using a condom—not waiting until after—because otherwise, you're just passing it right back to him. If you do that, he could just as easily claim you're the one passing it to him, you know? Ideally, you should use a condom every single time, or at least until both of you are medically cleared. Plus, some infections can linger quite a while before they actually start showing symptoms here in the States, mostly because most of those little monsters down there are so subtle. But regardless, you have discharge with an unpleasant odor, which is basically a giant flashing neon sign telling you to see a gynecologist.

Just go to the gynecologist and explain exactly what’s bothering you. They'll take a swab—or maybe several—to identify exactly what's going on, and then you'll get actual medical treatment. You’ve been putting this off for way too long, and if you keep dragging your feet, you might end up dealing with something much more serious. As for that tea for vaginal health, I'm familiar with it; it’s decent enough for just soothing discomfort (I've used it myself) or perhaps while you're managing a yeast infection, but here is what it says:

How it works:
The tea for vaginal health is crafted by combining herbs traditionally used to reduce bacterial growth (sage), to promote urinary flushing (plantain and parsley), to combat mucosal inflammation (chamomile), and plants containing tannins (witch hazel and shepherd's purse). Mint is added to give the infusion a pleasant aroma.
This herbal infusion is not a substitute for recommended medical treatments!

It’s a great supplement to medical therapy, though.

Over the last two months, I’ve been getting this discharge quite often—sometimes dark red, sometimes pink. It looks exactly like my ovulation mucus (that "stretchy" kind, right?). I’ve had a Mirena IUD for about five months now, so I’m wondering if there might be a connection there? It doesn't feel like typical ovulation spotting since that usually looks more like brown blood; this is definitely that stretchy texture, just always colored. Plus, it isn't just lasting a few days during my cycle; it keeps happening constantly (my last cycle was actually around 50 days). Could it be some kind of inflammation? My last Pap smear showed ASCUS with suspicion of CIN1 back in September, and I have my next appointment scheduled for this coming month. I mean, it can't just be ovulation occurring all the time 😕. Or could that stretchy consistency come from something else entirely?
Confused.

I'm 32 and have two kids. I’m done having babies, so since back in 2007, I've been using a standard copper IUD per my doctor's recommendation. Before getting the IUD, my periods were pretty light. After it was put in, they became heavier but stayed regular—until this last time, when the discharge stretched out for a week and then just stopped without any heavy bleeding. I saw my OB-GYN three months ago and everything checked out fine. Now, I've got another appointment scheduled for December 7th, but honestly, waiting feels like forever. My period should be due around now, but there hasn't been a single sign. For the past few days though, I've been dealing with some discharge along with itching and this sharp, stinging sensation low in my abdomen.
Please, if anyone has dealt with something similar, let me know. Thanks!

So, I have an appointment with my gynecologist this Monday, but I was hoping to get some insight from you all beforehand just so I have a rough idea of what to expect.
About a year ago, my doctor mentioned I had some ovarian cysts, though she assured me they were harmless and relatively common.
Lately, my periods have been much lighter than usual and ended with some brownish discharge. Also, two days before my cycle actually started, I noticed a pale pink, watery discharge, which then reappeared halfway through my cycle. Is it possible that this is linked to those supposedly harmless cysts?

I’ve tested positive for HPV. I don't have any other issues, though.
The discharge is somewhat yellowish—it's almost loud, if that makes sense. Maybe it just looks that way because I’ve been using white daytime pads lately...
There isn't any itching or burning. The only thing is that I find myself needing to urinate much more frequently than usual.
Does anyone know what might be going on?! 🤷
