Does anyone know what the membership fees are like at the local Muay Thai studio or over at Titan Gym?

Hey everyone, does anyone know where I can find some solid kickboxing-style training around town? I’m really looking for something that isn't Taekwondo—you know, more impact, less "point-sparring" vibes. Also, I’d love to hit up a gym that has a decent number of women training so it doesn't feel like a total boys' club. Any leads on pricing too?

You have this option http://gladiatorkbk.wix.com/gladiator
there’s also a spot for MMA fighters, though I’ve heard mixed reviews about them—not exactly the best recommendation—and there’s some club up near the Great Lakes area, but again, I haven't heard anything particularly stellar about it.

I’m actually looking for the same thing myself—specifically Muay Thai, if anyone knows the deal? Is there anything available through the local police academy programs, and what are those training sessions actually like?

What kind of exercises should I do to effectively increase my leg height in kicks as much as possible?

I’ve been trying to search for this online—not having much luck, though. If anyone wants to help, maybe just point me in the right 😉 direction.

Hey there..

I’ve been getting quite interested in martial arts lately, but honestly, I haven't the slightest clue where to start or how to go about it..

Back in the day, I did a very brief stint in karate, though it didn't go far..

The thing is, I have this surplus of energy that needs an outlet. I’m looking for something high-intensity—something where you actually strike with hands and feet, maybe use some equipment or gear... and I wouldn't rule out some grappling skills either. Basically, I want something that’ll make me work up a serious sweat and keep things interesting..

To be clear, I’m not looking to walk into some club where there isn't a single woman in sight. Discipline, solid organization, and a sense of professionalism are huge priorities for me. For context, I’m 35..

So, if anyone knows of a good gym or studio in the Chicago area where I could just drop in and observe a session first, I’d really appreciate the lead.

Go hit up some kickboxing or Muay Thai. Gear? Maybe sticks and knives?...

Do you have a specific club in mind?

What’s the name of that martial art where they fight using those long staffs?

I'm curious if anyone from the Slough area would be interested in an MMA club, since there isn't one here right now. I heard from a buddy that a new gym might be opening up, run by some guys who have been training in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and boxing for years.

Just wondering if anyone nearby is actually looking into this, because I’d probably join too—would be nice not to be the only one showing up.🙄 ???

As someone living in Modesto, I’d bet money they’ll have a solid turnout within a year if they handle the marketing right—you know, weekend demos and stuff. People around here definitely have an appetite for combat sports.

From what I gather, Hapkido actually has plenty of ground game—arm locks, throws, levers, chokes—you don't necessarily need BJJ for all that. It feels a bit silly to me... BJJ gets hyped up in MMA like there aren't other martial arts with similar techniques.

you're right, most MMA fighters should probably be training Hapkido instead of BJJ

Yeah, I guess Hapkido turns a sword into one of the most complete martial arts out there.🙂

Hapkido and that stuff I’ve seen around here is a total disaster. It looks like some Taekwondo black belt tries to throw in a bit of Judo or Aikido and suddenly calls themselves a Hapkido black belt. If there’s any actual grappling in Hapkido, it’s just a tiny bit of Judo. I only know one guy who trained Hapkido or something similar, and he didn't exactly kill it in MMA.

ps

It's funny how most MMA fighters stick to BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, and wrestling, rather than Hapkido ;D

I once saw some guy promoting Hapkido, doing demonstrations, and then he stabbed himself with a knife. I wasn't particularly impressed.
