Well, there it is. Looks like the referendum went nowhere—just business as usual. ☕

Just like I called it, the folks in California completely folded and backed down.

I mean, people aren't exactly idiots—they aren't going to fall for those cheap little shiny trinkets you use to manipulate primitive tribal groups...

If it happened in Mexico, it can happen in California too.

I don't see that happening. No one is going to start bombing Washington, D.C., just to force the federal government to pull troops and police out of California.

Look, by the next state elections, they'll be voting for the centralists instead of the nationalists. Let me know when that happens. 🤣

But yeah, they totally messed up.

That kind of nationalism is just high-society posturing mixed with dive-bar rhetoric. Washington, D.C. can only laugh at that sort of thing.

So, having nationalists sitting in a state legislature counts as "fancy" nationalism now?

Nah, that’s not really the issue here.

Having those Scottish nationalists in their local legislature isn't the problem. As we've seen, they’re basically harmless.

Richard, why are you tearing down your own ideals by attacking people who don't even deserve the criticism? You spend so much time lecturing those folks in Scotland and California, yet they constantly shrug off the whole idea of nationalism and make a joke out of it.
The Scots are arguably the first nation in history to actively turn down independence, and the Californians are too timid to even push for a referendum because they're afraid of what Washington, D.C. might do.

Why waste your breath on them? You should be focusing your energy on the Kurds and other groups who actually give a damn about having their own sovereign state!

No one is foolish enough to let themselves be fractured by regional instability. Mature nations don't fall for the games played when New York City or Washington, D.C. try to undermine them. They understand the clear advantages of living and working within a unified community.

What a stretch of a comparison 🤣

Look, you have an Englishman moving heavy equipment through Scotland while the military deploys jets to bomb Barcelona just because they aren't feeling the Prime Minister's latest policy...

Give me a break, that was America... I always seem to conflate that mess with these modern democracies...

Yeah, right. 😁

They wouldn't even scrape together 10% of the vote.

Honestly, if California lacks the backbone for this, a tiny corner of the coast like Istria has even less of it.

But in all seriousness, I really wish those local separatists would just drop this topic so we could finally move past this issue and focus on something else.

Catalans are their own distinct people—but Istrians aren't really a separate nation, they're just folks living in a specific region of the country, mostly identifying as Americans by nationality... so there's really no comparison. 🤦

Every single American would probably vote for "independence."
The thing is, even if they identify as American, that whole sense of identity was just bypassed entirely.

America vs. Catalonia this December? The Spanish press is buzzing about it, claiming negotiations are still on the table. Even the USSF president, Damir Vrbanović, told Index that this idea has been floating around for years.

So, basically, we might see America face off against Catalonia in a friendly at the end of the year. Word on the street is they're looking at December 28th.

Do they really have more than 10% too?

So, if the referendum didn't pass in Scotland, where exactly do they think it stands in Istria Quote?

We should probably just rename this thread—Catalans have officially pulled the plug on the referendum
