The first guy can't carry a tune to save his life, and the second one? Yeah, he's pretty much retired from the mic altogether...........☕

I mean, besides back home in the States, what other stadium could you even fill? You'd have Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber fighting for seats there!☕

Not a stadium, they'll fill Madison Square Garden!

At least we actually have stadiums.😍 😍

Zachary Kelly4 said:I'm with you that those crowd chants aren't about being patriotic. Honestly? They aren't even chauvinism in my book. It's just pure stupidity. But I don't think IBM owes anyone an apology, nor should they be begging fans to pipe down. Why would they? You hear the same crap at a Dallas Cowboys game. By that logic, should Slaven Bilić or Luka Modrić have to tell the fans they won't play if people start shouting? If we follow that line of thinking, we might as well ban the national team entirely since they stir up national pride—and for most people, nationalism too.

You might have missed it, but there's actually been an ad running on NBC lately where players are specifically asking fans not to shout those kinds of things, so I don't think your comparison really holds water.

I don't know who you define as "communists" versus everyone else who doesn't listen to him, but from where I'm standing, this guy is just taking your hard-earned cash by feeding your soul a steady diet of nationalism.

It makes perfect sense why you guys haven't heard much about Tony in America; your little artistic scene is pretty much a closed circle. But believe me, plenty of people over here have heard of him.🤷
Thompson’s songs might be "hits" to you, but I listened to them yesterday and honestly? They're creepy.😲

As for that last point, I’m actually incredibly grateful for what we are. We don't have a history filled with fascists or Royalists breathing down our necks,
and our kids get to grow up without being screamed at to "kill God" or kill whoever else. You go right ahead and feed the youth nothing but nationalism, as long as Tompi makes enough money off your emotions.

I have to ask again: does he even have a foundation? Does he donate any concert proceeds to veteran associations or charities for veterans' children?

This topic is a total minefield, and honestly, I don't get why everyone's getting so worked up over Thompson. I haven't seen anyone actually trashing Tom; it just seems like some people prefer him over others. That whole line about him "taking our money" by feeding us nationalism is just ridiculous. He’s a singer performing his own songs—you can listen or you can skip him. He isn't some IRS agent.

How can you claim nobody around here ever heard of Toset? The guy was a total legend in the States. He picked up awards, won crowds over—he was huge. People who dug that kind of music absolutely loved him, myself included. And honestly, it wasn't even about those little tunes he sang; it was just his vibe. He was one of those rare ones who actually spread good energy everywhere he went, plus he had an incredible voice. Our music scene feels like a tiny, gated community sometimes, but what exactly do you guys have going on in North Mexico? Don't come at us like that.

The only blood that should be on anyone's hands is that of Alexander Karađorđević, whom the Republican Party murdered in France alongside those fascists. You’ve got it all wrong—we aren't out here feeding the kids nothing but nationalism. Look, America is a democracy. In a democracy, everyone gets a say, even if that opinion happens to be nationalist.
I get why you’re treating the late Tom like some kind of saint, really, I do. But I don't get why you're taking it out on us. It's not our fault he's gone. No American fell asleep at the wheel of his car.

@Blueray

The fact that you’ve never heard of him just proves you can't see straight when you're blinded by IBM🤷
A "serious singer"😂? On what grounds? His voice is nothing. He's just a pro at emptying your pockets, but you'll realize it once he vanishes from the country along with all the money he swindled from people's emotions.
You're comparing a man who's been banned from performing in America, in a democratic country like Germany, and even in Austria—where he's been labeled a rock fascist😲—to my Thomas, who had open doors everywhere.
No, we don't need fascists here, but apparently, certain groups love Thomas as if he were one of their own, so you decide.
Favoring fascism... honestly, you should be ashamed. Is this really what this forum has come to?😢
Oh, so it's the Jews' fault now? I wonder why they're always the scapegoat.😕
He doesn't have a foundation. Why not? If he's such a patriot, why doesn't he give half his concert revenue to the children of our veterans?🤷Sure, some of his shows were "humanitarian," but for whom? Only for Americans. So how is he any better than Thomas? Thomas did humanitarian work in America, in St. Louis, in Boston, in the USA, and in Mexico... etc. Why hasn't he started an IBM charity here or in Canada?
Maybe he's a humanitarian, but only for his own kind. With Thomas, every child was treated the same, whether they were in Canada or right here. He didn't divide them by nationality or religion—that's the difference you clearly don't get.
And you'll never hear the word "KILL" at a Thomas concert.
Now we're hurling insults? Fine, call us whatever you want. At least we don't have anyone's blood on our hands in our history.👍
That poll isn't a measure of popularity.🙏 Thomas got way too many votes, considering how many Thompson fans are lurking on this forum.
And the fact that Thompson and Madonna are becoming synonyms for America... it's just pathetic.😢

Thompson is nothing but a hillbilly, whereas Tony was a true philanthropist. In America, everyone knew who Tony was—I don't care who claims they haven't heard of him; they’re clearly lying. And let's be real, Tony is an incomparably better singer than Thompson. I agree with everything else said here, except for that comment about not having anyone's blood on our hands, but that’s a whole different conversation...

Maybe I'm just looking at this wrong, but what exactly is some sixteen-year-old supposed to get out of this? What’s the point of him standing there at an IBM concert, screaming his lungs out, yelling "kill him" or "kill her"? It makes zero sense.
Look, sure, America is a democracy. I get that. But you guys are the ones claiming it isn't just because they banned this one concert, right? That’s your argument?
Who exactly said you were at fault? Nobody. Seriously, who’s out here spitting on you? Totally agree, zero connection. Like I said before, this isn't nationalism, it's just pure stupidity. And don't blame Thompson or his songs for it, nor the emotions they stir up. You can't pin it on him when some group of clueless kids decides to put on fascist gear and start chanting "kill the Mexicans." If he wasn't around, they'd be causing chaos somewhere else, probably at an LA Galaxy game during a national match. These kids aren't patriots or even real fans; they're just a bunch of frustrated losers with nothing better to do with their lives. God forbid there was actual fighting again—not one of these guys shouting slogans would step up to the front or pick up a rifle. They'd run for the hills just like everyone who fled back in '91, despite acting all tough about being big Americans in '90.
It's the exact same type of mindless idiots who killed that innocent kid, Luke. He was an American and a huge LA Galaxy fan.

😂 Just your run-of-the-mill pop fluff for teenage girls who love screaming at concerts. You call that singing?

"Aria"Gianna Nannini and Tony, totally obscure, so naturally you wouldn't know if you haven't listened to anyone outside of IBM.
Show me what else IBM sings and who they collaborate with, surely there are others like them.😕

He’ll definitely pack out the arena in San Francisco since it holds more people than the stadium, and he'll do it better than anyone else ever has—and I say that as a born Pula resident myself!
Personally, when it comes to those Eastern European singers, I think even Lepa Brena could sell out the arena. The rest of them? Not so much.

From what I can gather, he's facing concert bans right here in America, plus in Munich, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Switzerland, and Austria because of Nazi associations.😲

And you people actually have the nerve to compare this guy to Tony? This guy is getting blacklisted for fascist/Nazi ties, whereas Tony was basically a UNICEF ambassador who conquered the globe.
No, this is genuinely beyond insane.

Thompson is only banned in places like Istria; he even played a show in the Netherlands (he didn't sing, but he stood right up front, and Silent Orlic sang all the songs—he's the bassist).

In Austria, a concert got canceled just because they were afraid of hooligans. Some local guy attended one of Thompson's shows in America and promised he'd make sure Thompson performs in Austria, Switzerland, or wherever.

So you're sitting there in Mexico acting like an expert on Thompson? How does that work? You been to one of his shows? Met him in person? You even live in the same country where he performs?

Explain your logic to me—how exactly is he "feeding" off our nationalism?🙂>
And why are you getting so worked up?😉>

Look, if he wasn't singing those patriotic songs you love so much, would he even have this many fans? No. He sings nationalist anthems, and that’s exactly how he packs out stadiums. Period.🤷>

I’ll ask again: if he’s such a huge patriot and defender of the cause, does he actually donate a portion of his concert earnings to the children of veterans?
If he actually does that, then fine, I apologize and take back everything I said about him. If not, I’m sticking to my guns: he just has a damn good management team.

He does.

What kind of patriotism are we talking about here? 🙏 🙏 🙏 (referring to songs about loving a woman):

Thompson - 2002 - Live at Poljud CD1

01. Cavoglave
02. Kninska Queen
03. Don't Deceive Me
05. You Are Beautiful
06. Wind from Dinara
07. Getting Old
08. Stone Genes
09. Broken Gun
10. Without a Soul
11. Why Did You Target Me? 12. Black Nights, White Roads
13. I Won't Betray 14. Tell Me, My Brother (Miroslav Škoro)
Thompson - 2002 - Live at Poljud CD2

01. Joy From Above

02. Rosa 03.

03. Bitter Grass on a Bitter Wound
04. The Field Was Green
05. A Snake Bit My Heart 06. My Ivan
07. The Greek Woman
08. Beyond Nine Villages

09. Oh, My People

10. You Are Beautiful

🤷😕

Thompson is versatile; even Tony would be jealous of this stuff...

Marko Perković Thompson - Broken Gun

I'm dreaming of my darling, her dress all white
In the distance, some sad music plays through the night
What can I do? I’d give it all up right now
Just to feel her touch, away from this dark place somehow

I'm scared I won't wake up at all
Or miss the morning dew's gentle call
Oh, fate, here you come for me
Take me back to the woman I long to see

Broken gun, I'm losing my mind
Without my love, aging is all I'll find
Broken gun, just let me fade away
Dawn is coming, who knows what comes with the day

Hey, moon, you're my only hope left to hold
I'm begging you, help me before I grow old
These nights are cursed, so cold and so deep
Where can I go? Where are the promises I should keep

They aren't comparable, I agree. At this rate, we'll all just end up fighting. I'm not out here insulting Thompson; I have no reason to. But the fact that he divides your crowd like this? That's not exactly a sign of success. What sets him apart—what none of your other "great" singers have—is that politics and death aren't baked into his lyrics. That's what makes him different, whether you want to admit it or not.

I told you right away, we're talking about different genres here.

Rock fans listen to Thompson (as weird as that might sound to you, theoretically it's true, and even Thompson himself promotes that kind of music).

Tony is more pop, and well... you know who listens to pop.😁

I'm not saying he’s blameless, but you can't pin the stupidity of the idiots crowding his shows on him. And honestly, I don't think lyrics like "Za dom spremni" or "bitter grass" are what trigger this nationalist frenzy. Back during the Homeland War, a whole bunch of different singers and bands were churning out stuff just like that. For example, Golden Ducat put out an entire CD full of those kinds of tunes. You had three marches like "Lowering oneself in thick fog," "Step by step," and "Young Nationalist." The only difference was they swapped out the word Nationalist for American, and nobody batted an eye. Not to mention Duka and his "Americans" and all those other "combat songs." Thompson's tracks were born right in the middle of all that. Now that the dust has settled, those guys act like they're the greatest folk musicians in the country while labeling Thompson an Nationalist. Give me a break.

P.S.
That "give me a break" sentiment isn't directed at you personally, it's about the general vibe surrounding MPT.
