Kyle Nelson82 said:Can someone give me a plain English explanation of what a 'payment assistant' actually is?
What kind of service is this, and what am I actually signing up for when I agree to a bank's 'payment assistant' contract? 🤷

Thanks

So, I was at my local Chase branch yesterday:
Basically, these payment assistants are just banking products, much like those "fan" packages or the old "all-in-one" bundles, except they’re stripped down and cheaper. After the teller spent over half an hour trying to push a Zaba fan package on me—and once she realized I wasn't biting—she humbly suggested that maybe I might be interested in just the payment assistant instead.
There are a few different tiers. For example, with the cheapest version, for $6.75 you get free online and mobile banking, account maintenance for both checking and savings, and five transactions. You don't get any insurance, discounts at random restaurants or shops, roadside assistance, or anything like that.
The banks have little info brochures about these payment assistants lying around, though. I honestly don't understand why they don't just put all this information online where it's easy to find.

So, I just got back from the bank. I went in to ask about my mortgage, which is coming due and needs some attention this Monday—there were two people ahead of me, and I ended up waiting an hour, maybe longer. And I know my kid is just waiting for me at home.
While I was sitting there, I watched the teller try to push one of those Zaba fan packages on the woman in front of me. The poor lady just wanted a printout of something that hadn't arrived in the mail... honestly, I'm pretty sure half the stuff being offered to her was completely useless to her.

Anyway, I was already starving, so I decided to dodge the sales pitch. I told her I'd think about which Zaba fan would suit me best.
Now, instead of playing with my little one, I'm scrolling through forums looking for your precious advice.

Here’s our setup: my husband has a checking account, a Mastercard, a foreign currency account, and we pay for everything—electricity, gas, utilities, daycare—through our online portal. We almost never touch the mobile app.

WE DON'T WANT ANYTHING ELSE. No discounts, no insurance, nothing like that.
I know some people say the roadside assistance is handy, but we'll take our chances and skip that for now.

I'm assuming that's just what a cheaper payment assistant is, right?
Please, I might have to head back in tomorrow morning or on Monday, so a quick, straight answer would mean a whole, whole lot.

Honestly, I think I’d be at my happiest if I could just stop her right at the start and be blunt about it—just tell her, "Look, here is exactly what I need."

So my brother is basically breathing down my neck, telling me I need to ask about insurance one more time—is that stuff actually included in that monthly Zaba fan $20?

Kate Howard3, why are you even stressing over whether you need a Zaba fan or not by tomorrow morning? What are you using right now? A specific plan or nothing at all? The post above yours mentions a payment assistant, which sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

If someone tries to push something on you that you don't need, then without any shame, you simply say politely, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I have no use for that." If they keep pushing, just repeat your mantra as many times as necessary until they finally accept your answer. There is no reason to feel awkward. All she is doing is trying to sell more bank products because those are the orders she received from her supervisors. In fact, she should be the one feeling embarrassed for harassing people and wasting their valuable time.

It's included 😉
tied to the payment assistants—it’s a service that covers checking and savings accounts (though it depends on which model you pick since there are three types of payment assistant... whether it's Chase online or another channel, a set number of free transactions, etc.). Additionally, alongside the payment assistant, you can opt for a service center (those are the "insurances" you're talking about—usually roadside assistance, home help, and travel insurance). You get access to that service center starting from $1.75 per month and up 😉
keep in mind you still have to pay for credit cards if you take the payment assistant, because their annual membership fees aren't bundled into the payment assistant. 🤷

edit: I honestly can't deal with this 🙈. What kind of "harassment" are we even talking about here, Matthew Ruiz2???? As far as I can see, we are all legally competent adults who presumably know how to say when we are interested in something or not. Furthermore, if Kate Howard3 had just allowed the lady at the bank to "harass" her for five minutes to ask all these obvious questions regarding the payment assistants, she wouldn't be coming to us for help now (not that I mind explaining, but she could have gotten the info she needed right then and there) 😉

Does anyone happen to know where I can actually see all those different Zaba fans and find out exactly what comes with each one? I spent some time poking around their website, but I honestly couldn't find anything particularly helpful...
It would be such a huge help if someone could point me in the right direction.. thanks 🙏

Yeah, seriously, there’s absolutely zero mention of fans on their website. But man, if you just look at this whole thread, I’ve pretty much laid it all out for you. Personally, I use an elastic fan, but honestly, I rely on bills a ton and I've got all my cards, plus online banking, and now even the mobile app—which, by the way, is awesome—so I'm not even sure if I could switch back to the web version. I've actually got all the brochures at home for those other two types, the dynamic and the classic ones. It’d take forever to type everything out right now, and really, it all boils down to whether you prefer paying in person at a branch or doing everything through your phone or computer. If what people have said in previous posts isn't cutting it for you, then honestly, you should probably just head down to a local Chase branch and let one of the tellers walk you through it. Just make sure you tell them exactly what you're looking to do so you don't walk out with some service you'll never actually use. 👍

I had a dynamic checking account for four months before I decided to shut it down because why would I pay $20 for stuff I don't even use?
I don't need roadside assistance since I don't even own a car.
My wife handles all the bills through Chase.

I kept the security token, and now look at this mess:

Checking $1.75 monthly
Savings $1.00 monthly
Token $3.25 monthly

That totals 18 instead of just $20 a month.

Oh, and I think the annual fee for the premium account is $50

Could you clarify what you mean by leaving a token? Are you saying you’re paying via your internet connection?
What kind of fees are we looking at now when the bill comes due? It used to be just a couple of bucks... but now, I think some of those big banks offer ten or maybe fifteen free transactions, or even up to twenty if you're lucky...

It seems to me that quite a few people contributing to this particular discussion thread are actually employees over at Chase Bank.

Look, if you actually have something meaningful to say about the Rockefeller family, then fine... go ahead. 👋But if not,
just keep your mouth shut.

So, I finally made the jump from the basic plan to the dynamic one yesterday. Honestly, does anyone actually have the patience to stand in line at the local Wells Fargo or the Post Office with like seven billion other people just to save a few bucks? $6.75 Plus, my car died on me this morning and I’m about to call AAA... so having this extra cushion isn't exactly a bad idea. When I took out that mortgage for my place, everything was super fast. They didn't even charge me an application fee; it was all smooth sailing. Don't get me wrong, I don't make a massive salary—it's not like I'm throwing money around—but when you realize how unpredictable life can be, a little savings goes a long way. Besides, $20 it doesn't make you rich overnight, but you definitely feel a bit more secure. And look, I don't even work in finance. You can find plenty of info online about the Rockefeller family's offerings and what they cost

My wife gets her paycheck through Chase Bank, which currently includes their basic starter package for everyone.
As for me, I’m using Wells Fargo right now, and honestly—if I’m being completely candid—it’s been an absolute nightmare of a banking experience. 😠😱
So, here’s the plan: I’m looking to move my direct deposit over to Zions Bancorporation and eventually set up a joint Rockefeller family bundle with my wife.
I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how the overdraft works—specifically, will I be able to access an overdraft up to $13333 (which I believe is about 9.99%), or is the limit going to be strictly tied to whatever my monthly income happens to be?

It'll be capped by your income.

Word on the street is they want to scrap all the current "Plan 1" options. Then, they’ll basically force us into these Fan deals where the cheapest one starts at $20...
People are actually making more money these days... 🤣

I guess it's a good thing we have the Rockefeller banks around... 🙂

My wife gets paid through Chase, and she’s on the standard package for everyone.
I have an account over at Wells Fargo, and I can tell you firsthand: it’s a total nightmare. 😠😱
In short, I plan to move my income over to Zions Bancorporation and open a joint account with my wife.
Can someone clarify if I'll be eligible for an overdraft on my account? $13333 Either the KTA rate is 9.99%, or my credit limit is going to cap out based on how much I actually make.
The Rockefeller family:

Overdraft limits for primary account holders and authorized users.
Individual overdraft limits per account are capped at... $10 With an annual interest rate sitting at 11.99%.

Joint overdraft limit.
Based on the cash flows from both members of The Rockefeller family.
Up to the level. $20With an annual interest rate of 11.99%.
Regarding the primary account holder, The Rockefeller family (overdraft protection for secondary users is not permitted on this account).

The Rockefeller family plus:

Overdraft limits for account holders and authorized users.
The individual overdraft limit for each account is up to... $13 With an annual interest rate sitting at 9.99%.

Joint overdraft limit.
Based on the cash flows from both members of The Rockefeller family.
Up to the level. $27With an annual interest rate of 9.99%.
Regarding the primary account holder, The Rockefeller family (note that overdraft protection does not apply to any secondary account holders).

Look, Arthur Ramirez12, if you're so smart, why don't you explain how Chase Bank decides your overdraft limit...
I have an account at Chase, and my overdraft limit goes up every six months—roughly $333—since my salary keeps climbing. I pull in about $2667 a month. I'm on a flexible plan with a limit of $13.
The bank sets the limit themselves based on my last three months of income plus some percentage. I don't know their exact math, but there's zero chance I can just walk into Zions Bancorporation tomorrow, claim I'm on a flexible plan, and demand a $13 limit.

My point stands—overdraft limits are tied to income. It usually caps out at three times what I make, which would be $8.00 for me, so there's no way I could get $13.

So yeah, I still think you're full of it this time... 😁
