Hi everyone. I'm new here and could really use some advice. I wasn't sure who to ask, so does anyone know if this could be related to pregnancy?
So, my last period started on June 21st. It ended around 2:00 or 3:00 PM on the 24th. This month, I was expecting it around July 16th, 17th, or 18th. Maybe I'm just overthinking it, but my period isn't usually late. :S We had sex on the evening of June 24th, both with and without a condom. Since my period still hasn't arrived, I asked my boyfriend if he finished, but he said he didn't, so it shouldn't be an issue and told me I'm worrying too much. My cycle is usually pretty consistent—it might be a day or two late, or sometimes even early. But I'm honestly terrified that I might be pregnant, even though I feel like it's impossible. 😕 I'm thinking about picking up a test, but how reliable are they actually? As for symptoms... just some stomach cramps and feeling a bit hungrier than usual. Nothing else. I really hope someone can help me out. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Hi there. I’ve been scouring this forum, but I can’t seem to find anything regarding test reliability—perhaps I’m just exhausted from searching 🤷. My partner and I had unprotected sex around the 30th of last month, right during my fertile window. My period was due around the 12th (actually the 10th, given my 26-day cycle). Since it didn't arrive, I took a test on Monday. Four days late, and the result was positive. Now, I’m wondering: is there any chance of an error? If I try to rationalize this to myself, the logic is that the test shouldn't fail since it only reacts to one specific hormone produced during pregnancy. However, I have read accounts of false positives elsewhere. 🤷 Has anyone here dealt with that? Thanks in advance. Also, if I’ve missed the "correct" thread for this, I’d appreciate it if someone could move my post... 😉

Sam Patel61, if you find yourself skeptical about the results of the test, your most reliable course of action would be to have your blood drawn.
You can easily arrange for this by getting a referral from your gynecologist.

But when the OB-GYN insists on an ultrasound and my bank account is currently sitting at zero? To make matters worse, my primary care physician is out on vacation... 🙂

When you go in for a blood test, there's no out-of-pocket cost, and honestly, it’s far more reliable if you find yourself doubting a home pregnancy test.
In my own experience, those home tests have always been spot on for me; I remember taking one the very first day my period was late, and the line appeared within just a few seconds.
If your doctor won't give you a referral, then you're basically stuck waiting for an ultrasound appointment to confirm everything. Just hang in there. 😁

God... I would be absolutely thrilled if a baby were on the way... 😍 But here's the thing: all the symptoms seem to point toward pregnancy. 🤣 And then I start trying to convince my boyfriend that I'm *not* pregnant—while he’s busy insisting that I am (he even claimed he knew before the test just by looking at my chest🤣)... then the test comes back after a few seconds with two red lines (it noted a potentially fainter first line... but honestly, it turned as red as a ripe tomato in a garden).😁

From what I know, a test can definitely be a false negative, but a false positive is super rare. I think a false positive usually happens in cases of a chemical pregnancy—where fertilization happens but the egg doesn't actually implant properly. Just wait about 5 days after your first test and take another one. If it's still positive, you're golden, no doubt about it.

I’m not entirely sure if this is the right thread, so bear with me if I’m off base... anyway, my cycle has been all over the place lately. It usually runs about 33 to 36 days, but for the last two months, it’s dropped to 24. My last period started on the evening of July 6th, and my partner and I had sex on the 9th—we don't use protection. Since that first time, we've basically been at it every single night for the last 15 days straight (and yeah, let's just say things have been pretty busy 😁). Logic tells me I was definitely ovulating during all that action, so I’m wondering how early I can take a pregnancy test? Which one actually works before my period is due? Based on my new schedule, I'm expecting it in about 6 days, though given our marathon sessions, I’m crossing my fingers that isn't the case! Or is it better to just go get a blood test? If so, how many days before my expected period could I do that? Also, my OB-GYN is currently away on vacation, so does anyone know a decent clinic in the area that won't absolutely rob me blind?

P.S. I want a baby more than anything in the world 🙂

Generally, it is recommended to wait until the very first day your period is late to take a home pregnancy test; doing it earlier often yields nothing. As for the blood test, I believe you should wait about ten days after ovulation. A friend of mine tried it earlier because she miscalculated her ovulation date, and her blood test came back negative even though she was actually pregnant! It wasn't until five days later that the test finally caught it. Listen, patience really is a virtue here. Five days isn't an eternity to wait. If your period ends up being late, just take a test or visit a private clinic for a blood draw. There are plenty of private labs where the blood test costs around $55, and you can receive your results via email within one or two hours. You won't find anything faster than that. If you decide to go through your insurance with a referral, you will likely have to wait until the next day for the results. If you all are planning for a baby, please come join us over at "Wannabe... Vol 10"—everyone there is eagerly waiting for that positive sign! 🙂

In my own experience, I actually had a false positive! It wasn't a pregnancy at all, but rather caused by a cyst that I hadn't even realized I had, despite my regular checkups. It is an extremely rare occurrence, but since it happened to me, I’ve lost faith in both negative and positive home tests. Now, I always insist on getting a blood test to be absolutely sure!

If you know for a fact when you ovulated, you might see a faint positive on a home test about 12 days after ovulation. 🙂

Just grab a test from CVS or Walgreens and try using your first morning urine.
It might show a faint line if there's a positive result, but if it's still negative, it doesn't mean anything yet.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes🙂

I had this super faint positive about 12 days after I ovulated, so you might want to give a test a shot—just make sure you use your first urine of the morning
if you’re absolutely certain about when your ovulation actually happened.

Well, that’s where I run into trouble. I have no idea how anyone actually tracks their ovulation—seriously, what kind of logic is that? How do people even figure it out, especially when they deal with irregular cycles like mine? It feels impossible. :/😁

Anyway, I'll be over here crossing my fingers and waiting for my own little plus sign. :P ~~~~~~~

It’s honestly pretty straightforward—you just track everything with ovulation test strips (which will either bankrupt you if you buy them at a local CVS or come out way cheaper if you hunt them down online) and start measuring your basal body temperature

I’ve heard of those, but I have no idea where to even find them... thanks a million. I'll figure it out and try not to drain my savings... if I'm lucky, maybe I'll just wait five days to see if Gabriel is on the way and skip the tests entirely!! 🙂 Anyway, I'll stop clogging the feed with useless replies. Thanks again! 🙂 ~~~~~~~

Look, don't jump down my throat immediately—I’m just here hoping for a little bit of reassurance or maybe some kind of pep talk. So, my last period started on June 30th. My cycle is usually a rock-solid four weeks, which means I was expecting it yesterday, July 28th. It hasn't shown up. Over the last eight years, I think it's only been late about five times. We had sex on the 7th, 15th, 20th, and 26th, but based on my math, none of those were my fertile days. We didn't use a condom, but he pulled out, and he keeps telling me there's practically zero chance I'm pregnant, but still... :/ I'm feeling really weird because it's late, and honestly, I'm freaking out because getting pregnant right now is the absolute last thing I want. I've been reading through the threads here, but I don't have any of the typical symptoms. Yesterday, I had to run to the bathroom three times, which is super unusual for me, so maybe that's just the sheer anxiety talking. I'm not feeling that usual pre-period ache, though I did have some sharp pains for maybe two minutes the day before yesterday. Now, I'm just dealing with this intense cramping in my lower abdomen 😢 I know, I know, I need to take a test to be sure, but has anyone dealt with something similar? Maybe someone can help calm me down until I can grab a test tomorrow. (It's Sunday and every pharmacy around here is closed—honestly, it's infuriating!)
Right now, I'm just praying to God that I'm not pregnant, because if I am, I seriously have no idea what I'm going to do.
Help me out 😢

Nobody is going to tear you down here; this is exactly why we exist, to give each other advice. Look, my advice is to try and stop obsessing over it. If you aren't pregnant, your period will come, but dwelling on it like this is only going to delay it further and spike your anxiety... it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Isn't there a 24-hour CVS or Walgreens in a nearby city? Just grab the cheapest test tomorrow and take it; if you're late and pregnant, any brand will show you the result. Also, even if you are pregnant, it isn't the end of the world. You might become a mom sooner than you planned, but you'll see in time that you'll find happiness regardless. Prepare yourself for either outcome, though I personally think you aren't pregnant. Regardless, just take the test so you can finally relax. 🙂 Just stay smart and let us know how it goes.

Lily, thank you so much! Your post actually calmed me down more than anything my boyfriend has said over the last two days—and those two days felt like an eternity.
No, there isn't a single pharmacy open! That's why I'm freaking out. 😢(
I know, I know. I need to relax, but how am I supposed to when it's all I can think about? My stomach is literally cramping from the anxiety.
Right now, being a mom is the last thing on my mind. I mean, I'm almost 21, but 🙂
