Just wanted to vent about my little "interaction" with Orient Bakery and Vince!

My mom called Vince the other day to check on wedding cake pricing for a certain number of guests, and the lady there said anything from $1,000 up to maybe $400 for about 120 people (depending on the flavor) including delivery!

So we decided to call Orient to compare, and this guy just snaps at us 😲 ... we're just asking for basic info—prices, delivery, the whole nine yards for a 120-person wedding—and this jerk starts talking trash ... he says he doesn't give out that kind of info over the phone 🙄 , claims others might be cheaper but they don't have the quality 😎 , and then basically brags that he's the best in the city and would come see us if everyone actually wanted his info 😠 , adding that if you want quality, you're gonna pay the price 👎 ... we were honestly stunned and just asked if he was going to answer our questions or not 😍 , but what's the deal? If I'm calling from San Diego because I want your cake, am I supposed to fly out to your shop just so you can act all high and mighty before you'll even tell me a price 😕 ??? Seriously, mister... he just does whatever he wants and hangs up on us 👎 !!! OF COURSE we're done with them. Even if they're supposedly the best on the planet, they won't be seeing us again! Look, I get that quality costs money—whether it's cakes, flowers, catering, whatever—but this attitude totally 😲 !

Just thought you guys should know 😘

People really let themselves get walked over, don't they? That’s why you’re better off hiring someone unknown and low-profile. They actually put in the work, unlike those big-shot types who think they own the damn world.

On another note, does anyone happen to have the number for Em's Bakery over in Malibu?
My partner and I went looking for it the other day but came up empty. If anyone has the digits or even just directions on how to get there, let me know. Thanks.

😂 😂 😂 This hit me hard this morning—I can't stop laughing because I spent the last two days seriously thinking about using Orient for my wedding cake🤣 😬 and then you get this... absolutely ridiculous...
Let's all go ahead and start calling them one by one to ask for quotes just to see how much more he can blow up at us.😬

Daniel Smith8 said:The best wedding cake I’ve had in ages was from Vince Lombardi; each layer was split in two—one dark sponge with cherries, the other a light sponge with strawberries... simple, yet absolutely stunning 👍

Mine was pretty much the same setup—three tiers, all double-layered—Black Forest, Dobos, two types of parfait, and then two more... I can actually vouch for Vince because the flavor was incredible and it looked great too. Sure, you pick the design yourself, but at the end of the day, the taste is what matters 😍. I have no clue about the price, though, since the restaurant gifted it to us... so yeah, Vince 👍 !!!!

That’s actually a solid idea!

But seriously, once we looked at the prices, they’re insane. If it’s under $2,500—$1000 we aren't even in the conversation! That is way too much to drop on a cake! Look, everyone has their own priorities, but let's be real: too much is just too much!

😲 Honestly, that’s a bit steep for a crowd of 100 to 120 people... and besides, I've never been much of a fan of the pastries from Orient anyway.😬

A cake meant for 12 people showed up $70, and they still have the nerve to charge you extra! Between the rental fee for the stand—which they hold you liable for if anything happens—plus delivery, plus those "special" decorations, and then finding out the cake we actually liked is tiny $4.75... it’s ridiculous. And don't get me started on the hassle of giving them your name, your info, this and that...

neongardener6 .... Where on earth did you guys order your cake from? I need to know if it was actually worth it. I saw you mentioned vanilla, chocolate, and berry parfait flavors—who made it and what did it run you... thanks!

Is anyone else thinking about picking up some pastries from "Sweet Treats" over in downtown Chicago?
They go for about $17/lb.
I actually snacked on them at a wedding recently and, honestly, they weren't half bad.

Thanks, Sandy
So you basically paired those two parfait creams with forest berries... personally, I wouldn't go for a super biscuit-heavy cake if it's being served with that kind of parfait or mousse! Anyway, tell me, was it actually any good?

Urgent request, please... ladies, whether you're married or just know people who are—how much did you end up paying per cookie for those dessert boxes?😕

Honestly, I don't think they're actually that pricey; in my estimation, they fall quite a bit below $3.25 per unit... I shall endeavor to track down where I previously encountered them... if memory serves, I believe that one local print shop—I can never recall the exact name of their DTP studio—might have them listed on their website...

Edit:
Here is the link for that print shop... though I am certain a reputable partner like FedEx Office would certainly carry them as well. 😉

So, I’ve developed this weird obsession with those classic Chinese takeout boxes—already found a template to make my own, but honestly, it sounds like too much work. Instead, I found a bulk deal on eBay for 200 plain white ones with shipping to the States (which is twice what the local guys charge 😬). They come out to $0.77 per box... I'm just praying Customs doesn't hit me with a bill higher than $67 (the total package is about 450), otherwise, I'll be out at least $1.25... what do you think?
Also, does anyone know if any of the local Chinese spots around town keep a stash of those takeout containers lying around? 😕

EDIT: Turns out the ones listed in DTP are actually more expensive than my whole order including customs 😬

I have to wonder, which country are these boxes actually shipping from? It’s a crucial detail to verify, because if they’re coming straight out of China, then I honestly wouldn't recommend ordering anything from there at all...
I haven't the slightest idea what they look like in person, but assuming they match the aesthetic you're aiming for—and based on the style you described earlier, I think they would pair beautifully with your plans. Besides, the price point seems perfectly reasonable! My only advice is to be cautious about where you place the order. Perhaps you could grab a photo and take it over to a specialized boutique or an importer to get a second opinion?

Here’s the link from the States—it's through that evafavormart.com shop on eBay.

I'm just going to order it, honestly, I don't care.😁

Ahaaaa, well, I suppose that makes it 👍 just as seamless as ordering everything straight to your aunt’s house in Chicago 😬
And honestly, they really do appeal to me!!! I am quite certain they are superior to the standard versions, particularly because of those handles 😉 Jos, especially once you include your little "advertisement" 😍

I am constantly on the hunt for some decent pastries, but honestly, everything seems so overpriced lately.
Has anyone actually tried ordering treats from Magnolia Bakery online???
