Seagull was watching the broadcast from the house over at the local news station, and he's convinced Natalie is acting like a total prima donna (!). In his eyes, that attitude is exactly why she’ll never actually make it as a singer. Honestly, reading this just makes me want to reach for a shotgun.

So, dustyscout53, has it ever happened to you where you’re around a girl you actually dig, and suddenly you're acting all forced or just... weirdly different than how you'd act hanging out with your buddies?
It happened to Natalie.. she's gonna be singing for a long time, and she's gonna be damn good while she does it..
If Natalie isn't up to par, then let's hear it.. which singer out there is even remotely better than her, considering they're basically the same age?

Man, Tajči...
😁
Look, I’m actually trying to have a serious conversation here 😁

Black Hawk said:I’m telling you right now: having a "voice" is practically irrelevant when it comes to singing.
Does Bob Dylan have a Voice?
Does Arsen Dedić have a Voice?
Does Bruce Springsteen have a Voice?
Does Željko Bebek have a Voice?
They all hit those six octaves... 🙄
If we followed your logic, everyone would just be out there singing like Pavarotti, and apparently, *that's* what you'd call Music.
Look, Bregović wrote songs specifically for Bebek, and Runjić wrote for Oliver Hudson, while those other guys you listed are singer-songwriters. They were singing about their own damn lives, so obviously you feel that raw emotion in their performances. It seems to me you're more into that polished poetry where the lyrics take center stage and the music is just background noise...
And hey, that's fine. But some people actually love hearing a powerhouse vocalist tackle demanding tracks like Gull... and that counts as music too.

Look, if you're so desperate to step up as a moderator just because the current guy is MIA, then go ahead—ban me! Seriously! If that’s what makes your day, knock yourself out!!!!!!!! Or better yet, just kick me over to the joke thread! 😁
Whatever... fine, just start a new thread in the comedy section then.. 😁

Honestly, I just don't get why you're still holding those mistakes over my head today. It feels like you actually hate my guts (well, besides your beef with powerlock, obviously, but I won't touch that drama—that's legendary chemistry right there). 😢
you've got to know the difference between a friendly mistake and a total betrayal😎
Black Hawk said:The thing is, you can actually see it in her, and you can hear it in the way she sings. How on earth didn't we see that during Karan's first big break? (I can't even believe I'm using him as a positive example 🙄). Everyone is terrified during their debut, but when you're a "star," it doesn't show. To sing well, you have to be a "star." You need an ear for it, but the actual voice—it’s almost secondary.
Sorry, but Karan is literally twice as old as Natalie Portman, so I have no idea what you mean about his "first performance"... are we talking about when he started music or just a few years ago?
Let's try comparing Natalie Portman to someone who didn't start their career ten years before she was even born... if you want to compare them to people like that, then go ahead and tell me how much she's worth... but right now, the fact that Runjić decided to let the Gull be sung by someone so young—that's a whole different story. To me, it was primarily a message, because great people are always looking to recognize and help out the next generation of greats...

Ram is totally going to be our next politics moderator, and this whole poll is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to trash her reputation in front of the community 😎

And let me ask you this—while you were busy raking in cash at your strip club, did you give a damn about whether I was acting "Christian" or not? 🙄 😁
fadedfalcon60 said:And yeah, I was reading Gall’s stuff too, and I totally get where he’s coming from. If they aren't even bothering to write new arrangements for songs everyone already knows by heart, then what's even the point? Honestly, little Natalie Portman's whole career is basically at the mercy of these shark-like managers—but hey, only the people deep in the industry actually see how messy that really gets.
Gall trashed Natalie, saying her performance was "emotionless"... look, if he meant that they should have written a new, less emotional arrangement for The Seagull, fine, whatever.. 😁
But honestly, he was accusing her of exactly what I'm talking about. The girl is young! She was absolutely terrified of missing a single note in front of that crowd. Of course she couldn't give it her all when she was dealing with that kind of stage fright. It's totally normal. In a few years, once performing in front of huge crowds and big-shot critics stops being a total nightmare and starts feeling like fun, she'll be able to actually let loose...

I totally get why the ex-American crowd is losing their minds over Rambi. It’s bound to be a headache when a Jewish woman stands up and insists that Americans aren't some genocidal bunch... 😁 But honestly, why the hell are they coming for me specifically? I genuinely don't get it.. 😕 I am nothing but patient with them. Seriously, I constantly bite my tongue and filter what I actually think just to tone things down and play nice... and this is the thanks I get? 😲 😁
fadedfalcon60 said:Look, setting Natalie Portman up to sing The Seagull is—to put it mildly—a total disaster. "But I hope, I still hope..." :-)
I totally disagree... I read about how Gall spat on Runjić because of this in the New York Post... and you know what? Gall doesn't have a clue... 😁
I’ve listened to Oliver Hudson's version of The Seagull a thousand times, and if you swear by it, you probably have the CD at home too... I honestly don't get why there's such a huge fuss about Oliver singing The Seagull one more time... 😕
Runjić saw and heard plenty of singers in his career, so he probably knows how to spot an unpolished diamond when he sees one... and it’ll be great to hear Natalie Portman's take on The Seagull again in a few years. Plus, it's even better knowing she'll be working with Runjić in the meantime, even if she occasionally struggles with the competition from all those other people who sang his songs... so, my take is that Runjić knew perfectly well that Natalie isn't Oliver, and he wasn't trying to pull a fast one on the audience... the whole point was celebrating her youthful imperfection, not just recycling old hits for the sake of it... 👍
Natalie Portman has such an incredible voice; listening to her is pure bliss... I mean, when you consider that Andrew Lloyd Webber gave her a track like Seagull to sing, doesn't that say everything you need to know?
As for the big picture, comparing nineteen-year-old (?) Natalie Portman to Oliver Hudson is just plain stupid... He’s got decades of better and worse interpretations behind him, plus all that life experience that just bleeds through his songs... It’s totally normal that Natalie Portman was impressed by the company she was keeping... Honestly, in a sea of mediocre voices on the American music scene, I really don't get why people feel the need to jump on talented kids like this the second they step out of line...

velvetgull9 said:Why don't you just go find yourself a nun to marry? They usually cook a mean meal, and since they're all about that spiritual life, maybe they'll actually have a sense of humor too. 🤔
You’re a regular genius, velvetgull9... seriously, that's the answer right there! Only problem is, it might get a little awkward if she moves into my apartment. I'm not sure the folks over at the local convent would be too thrilled about that setup..

velvetgull9 said:Look, let me break it down for you—there is a massive, gaping canyon between actual sex and some weird, plankton-level crush, okay? That’s probably not what your local preacher at First Baptist would put in his Sunday sermon, but hey, take it from an expert who actually knows how the world works. 😉
There isn't even a gap, honestly, because in my book, if you're just thinking about it, we might as well call it sex. 😁

velvetgull9 said:Wait, I just realized... why am I only thinking about the plankton kind? 😕
Seriously, velvetgull9, what are you even asking? Look, just because I came out as a lesbian doesn't mean I suddenly stopped being Catholic.. 🙄
No sex before marriage—that rule still stands. Actually, it’s even more of a headache now since there isn't even "marriage" in the traditional sense for lesbians... I noticed this weird contradiction a while ago, but I never really sat down to chew on it. Now? Yeah, it’s definitely hitting me full force. 😁

velvetgull9 said:Look, we finally arrived at some grand conclusion, but let’s be real—it didn't actually get us any closer to fixing your problem.
What kind of strategy have you even tried so far to spot potential candidates that hasn't been a total bust? 😁
Or, hey, let's pivot: what does your dream girl actually look like?
(We can just work through it using the process of elimination...)
Strategy? Please. You know that feeling when someone catches your eye in passing, then looks back, or maybe just holds the gaze for a second too long? Well, I’ve been doing plenty of that staring lately, but nobody's giving me anything back. No winks, no peace signs, no sticking out their tongue... absolutely nothing. Zip. Nada. 😢
My ideal girl? Honestly... she’s gotta have a sense of humor. And it would be a huge plus if she could actually cook. Just those two things. Physical looks don't even matter to me because, let's face it, we'd probably just end up having a strictly platonic relationship anyway.
