The bank is taking my entire paycheck... in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Just try to scrape together some extra cash... those idiots ☕

Who even told you that? Some local branch manager?

A moratorium isn't going to fix your problems... I'm not even sure if you still have to cover interest while a moratorium is in effect... most likely, you do

Try sending an email over to Chase... from what I understand, they tend to take things a bit more seriously via email
Keep it brief. Explain the situation—basically, that you're willing to make things right but just don't have the liquidity at this exact moment, and you want to avoid a total disaster for both sides. Mention exactly who you spoke to, who gave you the answer, and then politely ask them to escalate the "case" for review by someone higher up (because let’s face it, everyone has a boss, right?) ...

But seriously, you should look into those suggestions about getting a roommate, renting out a room... or even selling, since prices aren't as inflated as they used to be 🤷 ...that's still on the table, because if you keep going like this, you won't last much longer

Yeah, exactly—it’s basically just a way to swap out those old-school checks.

She actually had the nerve to tell me I was being extra by showing up in person when I could've just called, but I told her straight up—you can't fix this kind of mess over the phone. And guess what? In the end, she didn't have any answers either.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long the wait actually is for a mortgage to clear? (And I mean a real mortgage, not just some renovation loan for furniture or whatever)

If you had actually called her, she would have known. Simple as that. 🤣 Look, I mean, okay... let's be real here. I’m fully aware that nobody can be an absolute walking encyclopedia on everything. Banking is a massive, sprawling industry with an endless ocean of products to keep track of. I get that. But there's a standard you have to uphold. You set a meeting with a client, you promise to look into something, you actually do the homework, you learn the specifics, and then you follow through. That's how a professional operates. It shouldn't be this chaotic mess where everyone just wings it. This isn't some amateur hour; it's supposed to be business. 🙂 ...

Honestly, just go to a different branch. Seriously. Go walk into one of those other locations and call this specific office morons to their faces—just ask them straight up what they think about it. I am genuinely curious to see what kind of pathetic excuse they'll try to feed you then. 🤣

Honestly, it all comes down to which bank you’re dealing with, which specific branch you walk into, and even the individual personality of the client involved. It’s never a monolith. Assuming everything is squared away on your end—meaning your credit score is solid and your paperwork isn't a disaster—you're still at the mercy of whoever is sitting behind that desk. I've dealt with Wells Fargo before where one manager treats you like royalty and the next one acts like you're an inconvenience just for breathing their air. It's maddening. One minute you think you have a deal, and the next, some bureaucrat decides they don't like the look of your profile. It’s inconsistent, it’s frustrating, and frankly, it shouldn't be this complicated.
Look, we’re talking about all this red tape, endless paperwork... blah, blah, blah. Honestly, if you walk into a local Wells Fargo branch right now, there aren't even that many people lining up or making demands—at least I don't think so, given how quiet things have been lately. If everything actually goes smoothly, you could probably see some movement on this within three weeks. You know, once they finish the processing, handle the legal notarization, and get the lien sorted out. It shouldn't take forever if they just stop dragging their feet.

Look, I’m telling you right now—take everything I say with a massive grain of salt. I’ve been out of the loop on maternity leave for almost a full year now, so I’m definitely not exactly plugged into the daily grind like everyone else. 😍 So, look... here’s the thing...

Both home savings accounts and life insurance policies are specifically earmarked, so you actually have the flexibility to withdraw and use that money if you need to.

Yeah, and it’s specifically designed for retirement savings 😉

Charles Ramos7 said:I'm with you there. But let's be real, most of us aren't exactly swimming in cash. It's rare to have enough breathing room to juggle multiple savings accounts. Usually, you can only manage one solid fund intended to cover all those "what if" scenarios, and a 401(k) isn't really designed for quick access when things go sideways.

I couldn't agree more.

Who exactly are you planning to call? Some customer service rep at JPMorgan Chase? You think you can just hop on a phone call to discuss a loan... about this whole ridiculous mess ☕... Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I’d be heading straight down to a branch in person... You don't settle matters like this over the phone. Look, sure, it's fine to give them a ring if you have a quick question or two, but when you're dealing with a situation as heavy as yours... 🙂

Go check out the calculator on Google's site... just plug in whatever principal you have left and set the term to years—like those 35 years you were talking about... though honestly, that won't really show you any kind of reduction. But look, right now, every single cent counts. Down the road, if your finances ever stabilize, you should try shortening that term. I’m telling you, seriously😁 and don't forget to ask them about the fees!!!

neonhound10 said:That’s true, though you’re definitely going to end up paying taxes on it eventually.

I can’t quite put my finger on why, but I’ve just never been a huge fan of that third pillar system, if that makes sense... it’s just a gut feeling. It feels like there are way too many hoops to jump through, and so many specific things have to line up perfectly just to make it worth your while.

Is the Democratic Party actually guaranteeing this? Like, is it legally binding, or is it more like a mortgage where the government could just decide to stop or scale back payments whenever they feel like it?

I suppose it would be a brilliant idea in a highly organized, wealthy nation, but in a country that’s already struggling to cover basic salaries and pensions, I’m not sure it’s the right move...

By the way, what is the current ratio of workers to retirees over in Rhode Island?

Not necessarily—not if you don't file for a refund during the year the payout happens... though, of course, that's assuming they actually approve it and you aren't legally required to report the income...

Charles Ramos7 said:Of course availability matters. That third pillar should definitely be accessible during specific emergencies, like if you deal with an illness or disability...
The downside of a "private fund" is how easy it is to screw up with a bad investment or just blow through it too fast. But if you diversify your risk and actually think things through, I honestly believe it's a much better way to go.

But let’s be real here: in those scenarios, you can't even touch the funds from the first or second tiers... so why on earth would you be able to tap into the third one? Sure, you could opt for disability retirement, but financially speaking, that's an absolute train wreck. We are talking about dedicated savings where the rules for withdrawal are strictly defined for a reason...

And as for the Democratic Party getting their hands on that third pillar => well, while they're handing it out, they're handing it out...

I just really hope Chase lets me use these estimates... They never mentioned anything about them, they only talked about the accounts...🙄

Look, it’s gotta happen... it just has to. Fingers crossed, I guess. Seriously though, let me know how it goes once you're through the other side.

bluebear34 said:I'm just wondering where this "huge crowd" is hiding......I know my old man managed to pull it off, but only because the lady at the bank basically hunted down his receipts for him, haha... (wasn't expecting that, honestly)... hard to believe there are still people like that left on this planet 🙄.
So you're telling me I could go to a Target, grab an invoice, take it to the bank, and then wait through all that red tape before actually seeing any cash?

Exactly. Look, the invoice needs to be in your actual legal name. And for heaven's sake, tell the clerk or the manager how you plan on paying for this. Most of these quotes are only valid for about eight days, and there is absolutely zero guarantee your loan will actually clear in that timeframe.

You really need to coordinate with your bank first to make sure the funding is a done deal. Don't just go out there, collect a mountain of paperwork, and show up empty-handed.🙂

bluebear34 said:But what if it’s already been paid off?? Like, I’ve already cleared some Zepter stuff, some high-end cookware, but also other random bills like paint for the walls and trim, brushes, etc. I have no clue if little things like decor I bought to set up my place count too. Does that fall under those accounts? Honestly, the whole thing seems pretty stupid to me... how am I supposed to buy things I don't have money for right now, when nobody is going to give me receipts in advance for furniture, bathroom fixtures, bedroom sets, and all that stuff?!?!

Look, what you're talking about is called a pro forma invoice... based on that pro forma and the rest of the necessary paperwork required to finalize these kinds of loans, they start the process... once the loan gets approved, the funds are released based on that invoice... some portion (though I'm not sure how much 🤷) can be transferred directly to your account if you had to cover something out of pocket in the meantime...

But if you go out and buy stuff first and then try to claim a loan for it afterward? Yeah, I'm pretty convinced that just doesn't work anymore...

Way back in the day, maybe you could get away with that, but federal regulations changed and closed that door...

And why would it be stupid? That's literally what the loan is designed for... if a massive amount of people were able to use it that way, why shouldn't you be able to too?

I think this idea is fantastic 👍

I’m actually planning on starting a dedicated thread just for hedge funds, so maybe we could rename this current one to something else? I don't want the title to be a cluttered mess—it should be clear enough so anyone glancing at it knows exactly what we're discussing. I'm open to suggestions...

Honestly, it feels like everyone has completely overlooked—and I'm talking to both the old-timers here and the newcomers who might be scrolling through subforum rules 😁—that there is already a specific thread for Suggestions & Complaints for the Board. So, if you've got an idea, please, just post it there! I've already started putting together a list of topics just to make things easier to navigate, but that's all 🙂

From what I understand, there isn't some strict deadline tied to the bills themselves, but the loan payout goes directly into the seller's account... and honestly, with these types of loans, you can technically spend the cash on whatever you want once it hits your pocket. It’s your money, right? You can put it toward anything in the house—even a Zepter vacuum cleaner (which I personally own and deeply regret buying; I basically threw $550 down the drain). As for those installment payments 🤷, the bank is just going to wire the full amount straight into their account

Regarding all this talk about hedge funds, I’m asking you all—please—can we move these discussions over to IMPORTANT - Questions from those new to investing

Look, when you're trying to move money from one bank over to another, or even just trying to settle up a bill for a business account => the ACH system doesn't even touch anything over the weekend, so you won't see a damn thing happening on your statement until Monday.

So, what are you actually looking for then? Are you going after a general personal loan, or are you specifically eyeing an auto loan?
The bank is taking my entire paycheck... in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Look, I think you can probably cobble something together to make it work... but let’s be real here. You’re going to end up fronting most of the cash upfront, only to find yourself stuck with another $150 hanging over your head every single month. And that’s where the real nightmare starts. Once you're on that cycle, you'll be bleeding money on late fees, service notices, and those predatory interest penalties. Trust me, those little extra charges? They aren't small. They add up fast, and before you know it, you're just throwing good money after bad.

Look, you can certainly try to request a cancellation of that automatic recurring payment, but if I recall correctly, the fine print in your loan agreement specifically mandates that the credit be serviced through an autopay setup... and honestly, what's the actual upside for you here?

Lawrence Wright7 said:How many years can the bank actually extend the repayment period? Because the loan was for 30 years, and I'm only in year two... if they extend it by 5 years, does that make it 33 total??
Isn't 30 the absolute limit??

Look, the 30-year cap is what they decide when they first approve the loan, but this is a different beast entirely... As for how much extra time you can squeeze out of them, honestly, I have no clue... you're going to have to sit down with someone at Chase or Wells Fargo and find out for yourself.
