Brian Foster2 said:It’s a remake, sure, but not a cheap one (I'm talking about Dawn of the Dead)! And I should probably mention that Dawn isn't just some imitation. As much as people respect and absolutely adore Romero, Zack Snyder basically made a perfect copy here. He managed to pull the movie into the modern era and gave those zombies a massive adrenaline boost. If we're looking at this as his directorial debut, I guess you could say it's actually Fantastic!

But there's really one fundamental difference

Romero's film wasn't JUST about zombies...

His stuff goes way deeper than that... 😉

Brian Foster2 said:As for Scream, I think Wes Craven actually said it himself... if I remember right. He was originally the one writing the sequel, but he ended up stepping away from the script, and then they had to scramble to find someone else to take over the writing duties. Eventually, Wes moved into a producer role instead of directing. He basically warned them that the movie wouldn't hit the mark because they were forcing such an impossible deadline on him—just way too much pressure in too short a time, I guess.

I think you might have gotten things a little mixed up there regarding the third one, I guess.

Wes Craven actually directed all three films in the trilogy, though I think the screenwriter changed for the third one... maybe? I guess that's just how it went down.

As for Freddy... I guess we can just leave it at that. 🙂

Dennis Long7 said:I don't really get what you're trying to say with that comparison to action movies.😕

I mean, I tend to see the weirdest stuff in genres where supernatural elements aren't even part of the deal.

I guess maybe you're mixing up "unlikely" with "actually impossible."🙂

Dennis Long7 said:the way she responds...

Yeah, I think you might have a slightly childish way of looking at movies.

No offense, though.😉

Dennis Long7 said:I feel like you haven't even watched the movie, just read some vague summary about it.

Well, if that's how you feel, then those gut feelings probably aren't doing you any favors.😁

I guess it just depends on how you look at it

Personally, since I'm such a huge horror buff, I ended up seeing it more as a solid parody

So, yeah, it wasn't bad at all in my book

Actually, quite the opposite

Dennis Long7 said:I mean, at the very end, Michael Myers actually gets back up after Dr. Loomis shoots him six times...
😉

I guess I see more supernatural stuff in your average action movie when the hero goes full "one-man army" against an entire battalion of bad guys... (if we're talking about your logic, maybe Commandos is basically straight-up sci-fi 🙂)

Dennis Long7 said:Throughout the whole movie, they keep repeating that Michael Myers isn't just some guy, but like, pure primordial evil.

Has anyone here ever heard of an allegory? 🙂

Yap, I totally forgot about the day... I guess I just lost track of things. 😉
Man, I don't know... this remake actually caught me way more off guard than any of the Romer originals ever did. I guess it just hit different, maybe? 🙂 It’ll probably be here soon, I guess. Maybe. I guess I was just thinking about gore... maybe it’s just me, but there's something about that kind of stuff that really sticks with you. It’s weird how some movies can just go there, you know? I don't know. Just a random thought I had floating around. I mean, I guess you could say the factor had its hands in this one... maybe.

I mean, I have to admit, even I was a bit caught off guard... that remake actually wasn't half bad.

I mean, trying to compare that one to one of the greatest horror movies ever made... I don't know, it just doesn't really work, does it? Maybe it's just me, but it feels like a bit of a stretch. 🙂

Brian Foster2 said:Man, you should probably just keep those hot takes to yourself. You’ve seen parts 1 and 3 of Freddy, but you clearly missed the best ones—4 and 6—plus that new age horror, part 7, New Nightmare. Honestly, 6 is one of the most original horror movies I've ever watched; it was pretty much made for 3D glasses.

you're out of your mind

Parts 4 and 6 are the best Freddy movies??? 😵

6 is one of the most original films ever??? (I really hope that was some kind of subtle sarcasm I just didn't catch 🙂)

I mean, 1 and 3 are basically the only things keeping Freddy from becoming just another typical sequel mess like Friday the 13th...

Brian Foster2 said:Well, Wes Craven himself mentioned how Scream 2 and 3 ended up being total garbage because they were rushing to collect the money, trying to make the movies as fast and cheap as possible.

When did Wes Craven actually say that about Scream 2??? And I don't think everything was quite that rushed, since Kevin Williamson had the drafts for 2 and 3 ready from the start

🙂

Dennis Long7 said:Pureblood horror has to have something supernatural in it; otherwise, it isn't horror.

that's such a silly thing to say 🙂

So, by your logic, the first Halloween movie isn't horror either?

Then why did you even post it in this thread? 🙂

Noah Watson4 said:Our favorite little legend Romero basically spat out Night of the Living Dead to start it all... then came Dawn of the Dead... and now, I guess, he's actually working on... hmm... Land of the Dead! 😉 BTW, for me, that remake of Dawn... you know, the one that hit theaters back in the day... was actually way better than the original! Pretty wild, right? I think I was so against anyone touching a classic that I was basically ready to just trash it before I even sat down to watch. I'm kind of glad I was wrong! If we get more quality remakes like this... it might actually be pretty cool. 👍

we're disagreeing again 🙄

😁

ps

you forgot Day😉

I guess I don't know what else to add... I thought about Hellraiser at first, but those sequels are kind of garbage, I suppose.

Maybe some anthology stuff? Or Freddy, though the original Halloween probably beats him by a mile...
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) in Movies ·
John Carpenter is kind of a weird case, I guess. For every brilliant masterpiece he puts out, he seems to make two total disasters

I think I'll just wait for the video version of this edit 🙂
Wes Anderson in Movies ·
For me, the only real issue I have with Anderson is how he handles the endings

It's like, he just doesn't seem to know when to call it quits on a movie

It happened with >, >, and his newest one, >

Instead of just crafting one solid resolution to wrap everything up, he kind of creates this pile of tiny little sub-endings that just end up making things way more complicated... I don't really know how else to put it, but I guess anyone who's seen his stuff knows what I mean

So, yeah, it feels like every single one of his films is maybe, I don't know, about 20 minutes too long

That’s pretty much the only thing I’d ever complain about 😢
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in Movies ·
slyrider16 said:so, I guess Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou feels pretty different from Rushmore or the Tenenbaums, at least to me. those other two movies seemed to have this deeper message the director was trying to get across... whereas aquatic feels more like just one big, giant prank. the movie is definitely crazier, maybe a bit over the top and exaggerated (is that even a word? 😁), but it's still good.

if I were to agree with you right now, I suppose 👍

I'd also mention that those iconic scenes paired with the soundtrack are really something you shouldn't miss

especially on the big screen 👍

Richard Hernandez13 said:but I still find myself carefully re-watching Life Aquatic.

don't do that, otherwise the movie might actually end up being bad...

I guess movies are kind of like hookups

everything just needs to happen spontaneously 👍
Emotional Intelligence in Psychology ·
Mad Scientist said:I mean, our emotions are pretty basic stuff, right? They come from those deeper, older parts of the brain—evolutionary things, I guess. Often, we react with emotion before our cognitive side even kicks in. Everyone experiences these core emotions to some degree, but I think upbringing plays such a huge role in how someone learns to handle them, or how they learn to recognize and actually respect what others are feeling. Upbringing kind of teaches you how to navigate emotions, too... both yours and everyone else's...

so, maybe it’s more about experience and how you were raised rather than just raw intelligence??

which is sort of what we were just talking about, I guess 😁
Emotional Intelligence in Psychology ·
rowdyridge59 said:So, by that logic, emotional intelligence is basically just how much social interaction you pack into a certain timeframe. The more you cram in, the higher the EQ, I guess. If you spend twenty years locked away in some room somewhere, obviously you’re going to be socially stunted and won't recognize anything, let alone read a room.

I mean, if we assume actual intelligence is something you're born with, then maybe we shouldn't even call emotional intelligence "intelligence" at all. It's more like... I don't know, maybe just emotional experience?
Emotional Intelligence in Psychology ·
gentlecanyon92 said:once you recognize it, then comes the solving part...

but I mean, how are you even supposed to solve anything if you haven't recognized it yet? 😕 😉 😁

but if you actually do recognize it,

does that automatically mean you'll know how to fix it too?? 😉

I guess if you remember anything from high school math, you'd know that isn't really how it works. 😛
Emotional Intelligence in Psychology ·
rowdyridge59👍

besides, I guess why would they even call their way of handling emotions "intelligence" in the first place?

isn't intelligence actually being able to solve a problem?? not just recognizing the same old ones over and over again??? 😕

jadetinker85 said:Look, let's just keep it simple. I guess anyone who spends most of their life stressed out, constantly anxious, or just generally making themselves miserable is kind of acting foolishly... even if they're actually pretty sharp at handling new situations when they pop up.

But why though??

Maybe they're just seeing things that "foolish" people tend to miss. 🙂

jadetinker85 said:So, quietdriver3, did you ever actually get around to reading that book?

A book, huh? I wonder if you could even turn that into a video or something... 😛

jadetinker85 said:There are certain people who aren't exactly dim-witted, but they just freak out and panic over every little thing, and honestly, spending your whole life like that is pretty stupid in the end.

Hmmmm... so what you're saying is, maybe hypochondriacs are just emotionally less intelligent than everyone else????? 😕

😉
