You really have to sit down and watch the full version—it’s nearly three hours long—instead of those butchered cuts made for people with zero attention spans.

It’s actually more than "nearly"... it’s over two hundred minutes, and honestly, every single one of them is brilliant. 😁
It's easily one of my all-time favorite movies. 🙂
You rarely see such a raw, unfiltered look at the darker sides of human nature. 😁

They really should. 😁

The movie is honestly just pure melodrama, but I actually really loved it. 😁
The only time I actually broke down in tears was when Mr. Jingles died. 😢
Though, they totally messed up Percy at the end, so I guess that made things a little easier to handle... 😁

Is it just something that happens along the way?

Or is it... the most important thing of all?

Just along the way...

Not me. I just deal with pests... 😁

And why even be surprised? It’s right there in the thread title. 😁
I mean, I totally agree with that too...

Who did what to whom, when, why, the motives, the messy relationships... none of that actually matters. 😉
It all boils down to energy vampires.
You guys can spin it however makes you feel better or fits your worldview, but my take is that we're all just leeches. 🙂
Anytime, any amount...

Oleander said:To me, leeches are those people who just force their problems onto me—and honestly, they do it to everyone else too—without ever even asking if I have the headspace for it.

Personally, I think anyone who drains someone else's energy is a leech. Period. 🙂

If they ask for permission first, then maybe they're just a "dear" little leech... 😁

Once again, you’re just being overly sensitive... 😁
Either that, or you just don't have any real friends. 🤣
Look, if someone comes to a friend because they're struggling or just need to vent, they aren't thinking about what kind of "vibe" they're putting out in that moment. They just need that support. A person who vents is like any other energy vampire—it’s exhausting—but in a real friendship, neither side sees it as a bad thing.
It’s the exact same deal with partners, maybe even worse. This whole idea of "sharing" burdens or thoughts... it’s basically just a mutual agreement to be each other's emotional outlets. One person acts as the battery whenever the other needs a recharge.

Could even be tea. 😁

hollowviper72 said:I’d have to stage a protest against Pesičin’s claim that we’re all just energy vampires. Honestly, I’ve got plenty of juice to spare... I haven't met a single soul who didn't feel at least a little more recharged after spending some time hanging out with me. I've seriously never noticed anyone feeling drained or low after we've hung out.

Wanna grab coffee? Just so I can see what kind of mood I'll be in afterward? 😁
I’m guessing great, since you'll probably just get up and leave five minutes later anyway... won't even give you enough time to get on my nerves. 😛

I think this whole "vampire" label gets thrown around a bit too much in here...
I mean, come on, they actually have medical uses. 😁
They were especially popular back in the Middle Ages. 😁

Tell me, hollowviper72, have you ever had a rough patch where you opened up to a friend or someone close, just vented a little? You know, when you were feeling down and needed to talk it out?
Well, if you have... what would you call yourself in that moment?

People always label leeches as "thieves," but they completely forget about the people who actually matter to us—we just view their way of taking from us as perfectly normal. Or maybe we're the ones taking from them, and it's just expected that they let us.
Family, friends, partners... that's just what's expected of them. 😉

A leech is a leech. 😁

hollowviper72 said:Here’s a little philosophical food for thought: do these energy vampires actually *show up* because we’re radiating so much positive energy, or do we just start *noticing* them once we finally have something worth taking...?

They've always been around. 😁

It's funny how everyone thinks they're the exception to the rule, though...
Vampires aren't just "other people." We all have that side of ourselves.
Or maybe someone wants to push back on that idea? 😁
Energy Vampires: How to deal with them? in Spirituality ·
It’s just sitting there, and honestly, it would be amazing if we could just put this whole thing to bed once and for all.
Most of the time, though, that doesn't happen.
Look, ever since I moved away, my parents have been acting like total leeches... they somehow always find a way to reach me no matter the distance. 622 miles 😁
Basically, it would mean I wouldn't have to constantly push back or deal with their nonsense. 😉

The bottom line is that Tinchi still needs to figure out how to set boundaries with people.
With everyone. Even her own parents.

Of course, when I say she "needs" to, I don't mean it's a requirement. She doesn't *have* to if she doesn't want to... but it would definitely be the smarter move. 🙂

Tinchi said:Of course you’re stupid. Honestly, I actually hope I stay this way my whole life... because man, if you actually become smart at everything, what's even the point of living?
But I do agree that some kinds of stupidity need to be cut out ASAP, since they really do take priority. Like this one, which is why I'm even venting here... 🙂 😁

Oh, Tinchi. You've got it all wrong. It doesn't work like that at all.
First, you become smart about everything—and trust me, that isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's a blessing, because once you've figured things out, you can finally afford to be a little foolish with a clear conscience. 😁

You have to learn how to be strong first... only then can you actually allow yourself to be weak. 😉

restlessmarlin6 said:Pesica, you hit the nail on the head 😉
But there are some people who, after reading what you wrote, just become even more exhausting 😢
Or maybe I’m just terrible at shutting them down.
Still, we're talking about a parent here. 😢

Maybe it's Mom? They can be so... 🤣

If it helps, mine is one of the biggest energy vampires I've ever met in my life.
Everything I said applies to her, too. 😉
I handle it by being stone-cold. Sometimes she pulls back, sometimes she gets mad and gives me the silent treatment, sometimes it's something else entirely, but that's her issue, not mine.
If she were actually smart, she would have given up a long time ago, but she isn't.
Just like how kids aren't smart when they let their parents walk all over them just because they're family.
My mother holds that same theory, and she gets incredibly resentful because I won't let her bleed me dry anymore. She literally claims out loud that she has the right to do whatever she wants to me simply because she gave birth to me.
Unfortunately, before my mother, there is one person who matters more to me than anyone else—even her—and that's me.
I will do whatever it takes to protect myself. From whoever it comes from. 😉

You can set boundaries with a parent, but it's harder with them. Partly because so many of them live under the delusion that they "have the right" to treat you however they want, and partly because of your own emotions... you don't want to lose them, so you end up tolerating things just to avoid the risk of a fallout.
Well, I took the risk, and I'm still taking it. If my mother prefers to cut contact rather than accept the fact that while I am her daughter, I am also an independent human being—not her property—then fine, let her cut it.
To hell with it, I'll survive.
Anyone who doesn't value me that much, or someone who doesn't give a damn about how they treat me, or someone incapable of understanding why I defend myself and that I have every right to do so... they don't belong in my life. Even if it's my mother.

She doesn't get it, so when she tries something, I'm not afraid to push back hard, though she hasn't cut me off yet. She uses the threat constantly, and the response she gets is always that I don't want this, but if she thinks cutting me off is better, I'll accommodate her wish—but she will never, ever be able to mess with me like this again.
She loses her mind when I tell her that. 😁
And I just tell her I'm absolutely not joking. Even though my tone is usually pretty sarcastic, since she does care about me deep down, she backs off for that moment, and that's that. I don't see an end to it, but hey, you never know. Maybe she'll learn one day. She spent over 30 years doing things her way, so it's not easy for her, I get that. But I'm not budging even a millimeter. Now it's my turn to live my 30s, and we'll see where we go from there. 😁

It all depends on you.
Make up your mind.
And finally, I see that Kegi is saying you're a good person. I don't doubt it, but in this specific situation, I'd describe you as a bit foolish. 😁
Because true kindness is what you do for others willingly and joyfully, something that makes you feel good rather than burdened.
Kindness isn't letting people—no matter who they are—do whatever they want to you when you clearly DON'T want it. To me, that's just being foolish.

No hard feelings, I hope you get what I'm saying.

Sarah Cruz2 said:1. Leeches always latch onto WEAK PEOPLE. There's no way they'd even try to sink their teeth into someone strong. They have radar for that stuff.

Not quite.
Leeches will try to latch onto anyone and everyone; to them, everybody looks like an easy target. And honestly, they especially love those people who’ve already fed them once before. They’ll just keep coming back for more blood...
The strong ones? They’re the only ones who actually decide how much they're willing to give. But the weak ones... they act like the whole world would fall apart if they just said "no." Or sometimes, they don't even say anything at all, they just stop giving... 😁

restlessmarlin6 said:Jack Harris3, obviously, at least for a moment. It’s actually being used right now 😁 The only crappy thing is that you have to be totally burnt out before you can finally tell someone to back off. But still, the whole "fuck off" technique doesn't exactly bring your energy or drive back. Sadly...

Look, I said it doesn't bring it back, it preserves it. 😁
You say "fuck off" before the leech bites, not when it's already let go because there's nothing left to suck, and you're just picking it up off the floor with your last bit of strength... 😁

Where on earth did you get this nonsense that you need to be exhausted just to shut someone down? Or that you need arguments?
What kind of argument do you need to not do something (or to not let someone make you do it) that you don't want to do? An argument for your God-given right? Someone taught you wrong... 😁
"I don't care!", "You're exhausting me, sorry!", "Go bother someone else!"—those are plenty of solid arguments if you really feel the need to justify it.
But do you actually have the guts to say them? 😛

I'm guessing not, correct me if I'm wrong...

Just like so many other people who play the victim for some and complain to others.
Leeches never bite where they aren't allowed to.
And since YOU are the one letting them in, and YOU are the one deciding how people treat you, how much they exploit you, etc.—stop sulking and playing the martyr. Either let them do what they want, or stop them if you don't.
As simple as that. 😉 🙂

Tinchi said:Are there any ways to recharge my positive vibes after dealing with all these energy vampires lately?

I can't say for sure about the recharging part, but I do know a way to stop those vampires from latching onto you in the first place.
It’s super simple, doesn't take much effort at all, and honestly... it works every single time. 🙂

It's right there on my avatar. 😁

Chloe Patel65, why do you hate Tom Hanks so much? I mean, he’s not exactly my absolute favorite actor either, but he actually crushed this role... he could have really struggled with that thick accent from back in Poland.

In my version, the dubbing sounds kind of "Eastern European," though I'm not sure how close it gets to the actual performance...
Damn Germans and their dubbing. :2up:

As for me, I find Tom Hanks to be an incredibly unlikable guy. Honestly, there’s just nothing about him that works for me... no charisma, no looks, none of that "it" factor. Just feels sort of slimy and greasy to me, and even as an actor, he's just okay. He tends to ruin any Movie he's in automatically.
Except for one: Forrest Gump. 😁 He truly poured his soul into that performance. 😁

Not yet, it doesn't even hit theaters until this Thursday.
But I caught a bit of the opening act last night and honestly... I was dying laughing.
I'm expecting some total junk, and I've never been much of a fan of Tom Hanks, but I think I might end up seeing it anyway. It looks like a blast... 😁
