But... there's still that little voice in your head won't let you be, right?
Oh, it definitely won't!
You’re going to keep reading, and you’re going to feel every single word.

🤣 And why on earth do you think YOU need to tell me to stop if I'm not interested? I might not be some logic professor, but I can hold my own... 😁
I don't generally spend my time reading things that bore me, so maybe save those condescending little lines for people who actually fall for them. 😉
The very fact that I'm replying means I *am* reading, which means I'm interested... and as long as that stays true, I'll keep showing up. 😁

You still haven't answered my question. 😁

A fly's destiny is just to get swatted.
The real question is whether he'll spend his final moments struggling against that fate, just trying to save some shred of dignity... 😁
Just pure, unadulterated nonsense right until the very end. 😁

Well, aren't you a philosopher...
There’s really no point in fighting that one, especially. 😁
That’s exactly why an outsider is left trying to find purpose within the chaos; whatever they stumble upon here, they'll just end up circling back to the start.

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah...

God, look at you being all wise and stuff! 😍 🙏 😁

So tell me, what's the point of all this deep insight? Just being a fly caught in a spiderweb? 😛
Hopkins's Arrow in Spirituality ·
copperowl2 said:That’s basically the philosophy of a deep sleep, Jack Harris3! 😉

It’s just the basic instinct for self-preservation. 😁

As for how much sense that actually makes... well, you pretty much argued it yourself during that whole rant of yours—that once something is created, it's already destined to fall apart... 😁

copperowl2 said:What does a fly do when it gets caught in a spider's web?
It tries to escape... it struggles, it twists, it puts every ounce of strength into breaking those threads before its killer arrives.
Could a fly just lift its little legs and say, "Nothing is my decision, let the spider devour me"?
I guess we’d call it crazy if it just sat there doing nothing to save itself.

Isn't that a bit backwards, though? 😁
If a fly actually understood what was happening, it would probably just lift its legs and let the spider have its way.
Because, well, it’s going to happen anyway.
But the fly thinks it still has a choice, thinks it can fight back... so it struggles, and ends up tangling itself even deeper... 😉

Hehe, well, Kevin made a comeback, but man, Waterworld really did him dirty. 😁

What do you mean "not everyone"? If my memory serves me right, Costner put everything he had—literally every cent—into that movie set in Plaisance with the wolves...
And honestly, he ended up making a way better film because of it...😁

Ugh, honestly, the only reason I even sat through that pathetic excuse for a movie was because Jason Isaacs was in it, and he didn't disappoint... 😍
The only real struggle was sitting through all the other actors just waiting for his scene to come on... 😁

Whoa! What did they put in your IV if you've suddenly started swearing at everyone? 🤣

Seriously, what are you doing? You can't just dive into writing entire novels right away...
Everything is going to be fine, just take it one step at a time, you impatient soul. 🙄
You'll get everything written eventually, just rest up and recover a little first. Right now, you aren't able to handle the whole circus like you used to, so please don't even try... it'll all go back to normal slowly enough. The forum isn't going anywhere, don't worry. No need to force it. 😉

And as for you bunch of disloyal trolls, don't you dare get slyviper47 worked up with your nonsense... if I see any of you bothering her because she's acting out, I'll start handing out bans left and right. 😁

She isn't someone to mess with. 😉
Why do some people just crave peace and quiet? in Philosophy ·
Kyle Nelson2 said:I’ve been wondering lately... are we the crazy ones for our peace seeking, or is it them, the ones who aren't looking for anything at all?

It's definitely us, the seekers. 😁
The people who aren't looking... they already have everything they need... 😉

Mark Hughes36 said:To me, that girl (Elizabeth Bennet's sister) just seemed like a modest, reserved type...
I wouldn't say she was emotionally unstable or anything like that.

Well, after dealing with that crazy old woman of hers, there wasn't much left for her to do except change her whole vibe. She just keeps her feelings tucked away, suffering quietly and modestly so nobody even notices. That’s actually why Mr. Darcy messed with their relationship at first—he genuinely thought his friend didn't care for him. So much for being "modest" and "reserved," right? 😁
But then you have her bold, totally unreserved sister, Elizabeth Bennet, who not only dragged her out of her shell so she could actually land a guy, but ended up snagging an even wealthier one herself. 😁

P.S. I'm talking about the book here. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if they changed things up in the adaptation.
I figured you might be expert enough to know about some of the newer theories, so I asked you the way a student would ask a teacher...😁

🤣
As for expertise... let's not go there. We'll just end up arguing again because our tastes in music are so different. 😁

The way you're acting all "twisted up" makes me want to say yes...

I suppose so. 😁

And as far as my character goes, who’s actually supposed to agree with me?
Nobody has to... 😁

Well, you picked an example that would definitely qualify as a clinical case.
🤣 I don't know anyone who’d turn down a scoop of ice cream.
😁 Except maybe me, but only because it looks too watery and unappealing.
😁
Quote:I don't think people who are extremely shy and withdrawn are actually that common.
Most of the time, it's just a more pronounced personality trait.
I'm not so sure if that's really "character" or just "conditioning." 😉
You know, the influence of how you were raised, your social circle, church, stuff like that...
Can we just agree on a middle ground regarding being "partially stingy"? 😁

I mean... that's probably always the case since nobody is ever 100% cheap. At least, I hope not. 😁

and I wouldn't go so far as to call it being a jerk
maybe I’d agree that they might have a harder time navigating life later on
but calling someone a jerk is still a pretty negative label to throw around...

It’s deserved. 😁
But honestly, how anyone else perceives it or judges it doesn't really matter. The bottom line is that some people just lack the confidence to step up and take what's being handed to them on a silver platter. 😁

I agree that I don't need to change people like that, but saying they're just cheapskates? I don't see it that way at all... 🙂
If someone is practically drooling over my ice cream even after turning it down, how is that being a cheapskate? 😁

if your own personal wants happen to line up with the version of an "ideal life" that society tries to shove down our throats...
based on how you've been answering things here, that's likely what's happening... 🙂

Not really. Most of my own desires actually run counter to everything society and the media try to push on us.
But it isn't just about knowing how to ask for what I want—I'm even better at turning down what I don't. 😉
3 - there can be plenty of reasons for saying no, and it doesn't always come down to low self-esteem...
some people are just more private than others...
and they'll politely decline (pretty much) everything offered to them...
depending on how well you know them, you can navigate that third scenario without any risk of it being taken the wrong way...
of course, you have to know how to handle it just right.

Why wouldn't you just let those private people stay private? 😁
Personally, I think that's total BS—it's just learned behavior, not what someone actually wants to be or have...
And obviously, you feel the same way, otherwise you wouldn't have bought him an ice cream cone though he turned it down. 😛
And yeah, I know how to handle it just right. If someone refuses, I'll just say, "Stop playing games, just tell me which flavor you want." 😁
If they insist on saying no, then I'll just "hear" them, buy myself two scoops, and tell them they're being ridiculous... 😁
How to build real self-confidence? in Psychology ·
3. Not really. If I ask you and you don't have the confidence to just admit you want some—well, that's on you. Honestly, I'd probably feel worse about it... But if you truly aren't interested, then it won't even bother me if I just grab two scoops for myself. 😁

In the meantime, I actually went through an advanced self-confidence seminar, so I’ll be pretty upfront about wanting a scoop if you don't offer one first. 😁
So yeah, I'm not just being modest... I'm being downright shameless. 🤣
