Some people play it too low, while others blow things way out of proportion... honestly, who even cares? As long as they're talking about someone else... 😁
Nobody actually listens to their own gut. 😂
Any thoughts on the quality? in Philosophy ·
Elysium said:If we can't even define what quality actually is, how are we supposed to recognize it when we see it?
And honestly... how do we even know it exists in the first place?

The thing is, it doesn't really exist as its own separate thing. 😁

I actually really enjoyed this movie...
Finally, two guys who aren't just acting like they work for Black Stone in every single scene, but instead, you can't even tell which one is more much of a coward.
Honestly, how could you not love them?
😍😁

a little bit here. But seriously, tell me... isn't it possible for all these different perspectives to be valid at once? Who gets to decide what's actually "right" or "wrong" anyway? It feels way too simplistic to just paint everything in black and white like that.
For me, arguments aren't really about proving I'm right... they're more about explaining the "why" behind how I see things.

Look, we aren't talking about you or me specifically... we're talking about the masses. 😁
I think I actually find myself agreeing with you on most of this... 😂

Brenda Williams13 said:I don't really see it that way. For instance, if I’m posting my own opinion on this forum, the whole point is just to let people know where I stand... it isn't about proving everyone else wrong. Besides, it’s up to them how they choose to take it.

Well, they perceive it exactly how it's delivered.😁
When you voice an opinion, you're essentially saying "this is what I believe is right," aren't you?
And by extension, you're implying everything else *isn't* right... which basically means anyone disagreeing is wrong.😁
Then, if you start throwing out arguments to back up your side, you're simultaneously using those same points to prove that the other person's view is incorrect.
Kind of like what I'm doing to you right now...🤣

Just say it. 🤣

I mean, wouldn't you probably think and act just like them if you were in their shoes? 😉

Brenda Williams13 said:I’ve always found this phenomenon pretty fascinating... when someone claims they just feel different from the crowd, it almost always ends up being interpreted as them thinking they’re somehow better than everyone else.😕

Just a bunch of cookie-cutter minds, honestly. What a joke.😁
Anything that doesn't fit the mold is seen as "unknown," which triggers all that suspicion...
But instead of actually doing the work to understand the unknown, people just slap a label on it. It makes them feel like they’ve got it figured out, so they don't have to bother with any real thinking...😁

Brenda Williams13 said:I’m just sticking to my guns. I think you missed my point a little bit. It’s not that I haven't adapted... I have. It's more just this weird, nagging feeling that people get uncomfortable when I don't follow the crowd.

Oh, you "adapted," did you? Like this?
In so many ways I know I don't really fit in with the crowd, especially since I'm not much of a talker. And while it doesn't bother me at all if people can't handle someone who isn't part of the pack, something else happens too. People seem to take my refusal to blend in personally... almost like me standing apart is some kind of insult to them. Not to mention how most folks assume you're just acting superior or trying to look smart by being different.

So, what does it actually look like when you *don't* adapt? 🤣

I feel like you're missing the mark here... When you're hanging out with people who love to chat, and they expect YOU to jump in too—you know, just the usual small talk, nothing heavy or deep about the meaning of life—well, the social expectation is that you contribute. 😉
Of course, nobody is forcing your hand, but you can't really claim you've "adapted" if you end up looking like a snob who thinks they're too good for the conversation. 😁

Don't worry, I get it. I've definitely had those looks thrown at me, that "ugh, why are they being so difficult" attitude... so trust me, I know exactly what you mean... 🤣
I've learned how to play along sometimes, just to be "shallow" and repeat the same old clichés, and honestly, it's not always a bad thing. It teaches you that you aren't actually better than anyone else. 😁
And if it gets too annoying? I just stay home.

Though, I do notice something else happening... people seem offended by my refusal to just blend in. It’s like they think I’m acting superior or trying to prove how smart I am just by being different. That isn't it at all. I guess I've just always preferred doing things "My Way" rather than just going with the flow...

So why don't you just stick to your guns then?
I highly doubt the crowds are knocking on your front door just to chat, so you're likely running into them out in the world... you're heading toward the masses, not the other way around.
There's that old saying about adapting to the culture wherever you land, kind of like how people used to adapt when moving through the Roman Empire back in the day. 😁

It feels like you're the one who needs to adjust, not them. 😉
Either that...
😉 Or head out into the wilderness.

Or, you know, just find a group of people who actually care about the same stuff you do. 😁

Well, aren't they? 😁

A schemer driven entirely by spite, an older woman playing games behind everyone's back, and when things finally boil over, she doesn't even step up to defend Griet... just a wife who can't seem to connect with her husband, yet makes a scene the moment he looks elsewhere for a little inspiration or someone to actually understand him... a man who basically sold his soul...
Need me to keep going? 😁

I mean, obviously, if you're looking at it through a modern lens. 😉

But back then? It was just your typical family drama where everyone's plotting against each other. A maid was treated more like a piece of furniture than a person, and if anyone actually thought about helping her, they'd probably think twice before getting involved unless there was something majorly in it for them... 😁

urbanhawk28 said:Just to add my two cents,
in my view, this is nothing more than a retelling of Cinderella dropped into a modern setting, complete with fancy costumes just to throw the critics off the scent. They’re leaning heavily on those tired feminist tropes—you know, the predatory male pig versus the innocent maiden—while the painter's family is treated as little more than collateral damage.

I wouldn't quite go that far, though...

a) Cinderella didn't actually end up with a prince at the end of the story, she ended up with a butcher (I think). 😁
b) That "predatory male" never even touched the virgin—but let's be real, she certainly would have if she wanted to (both before and after the butcher part). 😁
c) The family isn't really a victim here; they're just pretty damn corrupt, plain and simple. 😁
d) I don't think the painting made her a pariah; if anything, now the whole world knows who she is. 😁

urbanhawk28 said:...especially when you look at the original painting and see how much that woman just radiates beauty and pure bliss.

The only thing is, we have no clue who she actually was. 😁
Griet is just a fictional name; nobody truly knows the identity of the girl in the portrait.
But back in Vermeer's day, it was pretty standard for painters to use their own respectable wives as models, so the fact that this young lady wasn't his wife meant the whole thing was a genuine scandal in its own right...😁

Nietzsche would probably say:

😁 😁

So, does that mean we should be looking out for some trouble soon? 😁

I guess they'll all just keep buzzing around the same old mess anyway... 🥳

Well, you haven't really been saying much anyway... 😁

I was just asking you something, and I don't get why you're being so cagey about it.
Look, if I asked something too personal, it's totally your right to keep it to yourself. It's on me to just accept that. 🙂

Let’s say, "you're just some religious zealot." 😉
No matter what I tell you about myself, you'll always have an answer ready.
Maybe you actually want me to try and convince you that I'm not who you think I am? 😕
Man, what a waste of time... 😳
Honestly, I couldn't care less how you or anyone else sees me; so feel free to write whatever you want about my account, none of it is ever going to touch me.

Oh, if nothing touches you, you sure are making a big deal out of it... 😛
Just like those fanatics who shout God's word from the rooftops instead of actually living by it. 😁

Your answer isn't found in me, which is exactly why I'm asking you.

And you don't really care about my own answer anyway, do you? So what's the harm in sharing yours? It doesn't matter what I say to it... 😁

Just be brave... 🤣

hollowfox38 said:I think there’s definitely a purpose here, it’s just that an outsider wouldn't be able to grasp it for the reasons you pointed out. A Personality is... well, a Personality.

So, really, it all boils down to the idea that a person needs to evolve—to become their true, inner self.

That's a beautiful theory. But how are you actually handling it in your daily life? 😁

copperowl2 said:Great, you’re actually showing some progress here.
That mask of yours is getting thinner by the day, and your true self is starting to peek through... more than you probably intended.
It’s a good thing if you’re someone looking to learn about yourself; but for everyone else out there, this is just going to trigger a wave of persecution and public outcry based on their own subjective views of what’s right.
But hold on, because the real stuff hasn't even started yet. 😂
Just wait until you finally wrap your head around what I was actually getting at.
Wait until you realize that YOU are completely irrelevant, and that the only thing truly IMPORTANT within you is the part that can grasp what this "low-level fanatic" is actually writing about.
And once that realization hits home... man, God help you for what you'll turn into.
Just watch...

There’s no escaping this.
Whatever it is I need to know about myself, you aren't in any position to teach me anyway—it’s not your department, and it’s certainly not what I asked.
Why don't you talk a little about yourself instead? 😁
My question was pretty straightforward. Or maybe you just don't have an answer? 😛

Endless said:And why on earth do you feel like you have to... Confirmed... Why does that even matter to you... when it's pretty obvious you're just tripping over your own complaints?
The more you try to tear down a little gimmick like that, the more value you actually end up giving it... and honestly, the higher the price tag becomes. It’s almost funny. Every time you try to belittle it, you're just proving how much power it actually holds over you... and how much you're secretly terrified of it...

The logic used by those hardcore cat fanatics... it’s just getting lower and lower... 😁
Whatever you say, they’re just going to take your own words and twist them to prove that the devil is running your life. Even if you try to speak their language... it doesn't matter... 🤣
Who would've thought we'd find the exact same type of people even here... 😁
Quinn:
Just take a second to really think about it... what exactly are we belittling here? What are we trampling on? What is it that we’re actually trying to devalue...
So, I was sitting there thinking about it today... just wondering about all those things we pour our time, money, or energy into that ultimately end up being a total wash. You know what I mean? That feeling when you realize you've been chasing something that just isn't worth the hassle in the end... What’s one thing for you that truly, absolutely isn't worth it? Not even a little bit...
🙂
I don't know about you, but that’s exactly how I handle things... 😁
I guess I’m just wasting my time on things that aren't even worth the effort...
It doesn't really matter if I'm technically right... honestly, all that matters is how it feels to me in the moment...
It honestly doesn't matter if I'm one to talk... I’ve got plenty of my own flaws, believe me. But being unable to screw things up just to spite myself? That's definitely not one of them... 😉
Quinn:
Regarding that answer you're looking for... honestly, I don't really see a question there that you couldn't just figure out on your own...
There are just certain questions I find myself wrestling with... things I can answer for myself, I guess, but I still end up asking them anyway...
If I go out of my way to ask someone a question, it’s because I actually give a damn about what they have to say... I really do. It’s not just about hearing noise, you know? I’m genuinely interested in their take on things... 😁
Quinn:
No matter what I say to you, you’re just going to sit there with your own opinion anyway...
So, based on that...🙏
That’s true, I guess... but I don't really see why that bothers you so much, especially since you're doing the exact same thing yourself. It's pretty obvious if you look closely... 😁
