Sleepy Hollow (Before I Wake) 2016 in Movies ·
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3174376/

Really liked this one.
I think it actually pulled off what most movies in this genre fail to do: a satisfying ending. Most horror flicks, psych thrillers, or horror dramas always seem to mess up the finale, and that’s usually where they fall apart.

It isn't your typical horror movie. Not sure if this is a new trend (like Boy, though that didn't hit quite as hard), but they focus more on telling a real story rather than just relying on jump scares.

Definitely not a "thrill a minute" type of ride. The plot builds nicely. My favorite part about these kinds of films is that moment where you stop and think, "Wait, what happens now?" Like with Triangl, that feeling is perfect.

The director takes his time. He walks right along the line of clichés and predictability but keeps the quality high. It stays tense without overdoing the jump scares. It's super creative. This is honestly what Mom could have been if they hadn't completely botched the final act.

Highly recommend it if you're into horror-dramas. That kid playing the son is fantastic. The whole vibe reminded me a bit of Poltergeist with the kids. Not just because of the subject matter, but the atmosphere too. I wish they had leaned harder into the dream vs. reality aspect. We only really get that once or twice.

Anyway, like I said, the ending works. There's still a big question mark left hanging, but we'll talk about that once more people have seen it so we don't spoil anything.
bluebison8 said:The movie is pure fun! For me, this is basically Dredd 3D updated for 2016. You go in expecting one thing and get hit with this unique, hardcore action flick that's unlike anything else. It's a blast!

Exactly. Highly recommend watching this on the big screen, or you'll regret missing out.

I don't think it'll hit the same on a small screen.
The Boy (2016) in Movies ·
The vibe is good, but honestly, I can't recall the ending, even though I watched it last month or something.

I know what the twist is, but kill me now, I just can't remember how it actually wrapped up.
This movie is seriously, seriously fun.

Great humor, great action—just grab some huge popcorn and enjoy.

It touches on some cool sci-fi concepts too, though they definitely take a backseat to the pure adrenaline.

Sharlto Copley is fantastic. He had me laughing constantly.

I love how there are little breaks in the action right when things start feeling intense, just to let you catch your breath.

Not much left to say, just go watch it.

Just a heads up, if you can't stand shaky cam, skip this one because there's a ton of it.
Eric Fox12 said:A Meta headset would be perfect for this movie.

I'd love to try this in Meta.
I'm a big fan of Meta. Only ever had issues with those cartoonish rollercoasters. Everything else like 3D or 4D is totally fine with me.
Tyler Garcia69 said:Saw the trailer today. Total madness. That unique perspective is classic for an FPS. It's actually an American production.

In the US, it hits theaters on April 14th, 2016.

Nice. Definitely going to see this in theaters.
Stumbled upon this by chance. Looks like a prequel!

Though people who can't stand shaky cam might want to skip it.

It hits theaters in the USA on April 7th.

Not sure about the local release date yet.
Edward Norton vs. Leonardo DiCaprio in Movies ·
Leonardo definitely had more standout roles.
For me, his best work was in Django, The Basketball Diaries, and now The Revenant.

Norton in Fight Club.
Norton just gets on my nerves as an actor somehow, I can't quite put my finger on it. It was like that in Birdman, for example.

Maybe it's more of a method approach from Leonardo, who knows.
Netflix is finally in America! in Movies ·
Big news hitting the headlines today. A major scandal just broke out involving some high-profile legal drama here in the States. It’s definitely going to shake things up.

Looking at the list of countries, we're actually pretty lucky.

Netflix just expanded its lineup again. It's available in more countries now. America, plus countries like Turkey, Poland, and Russia on the list. Netflix already expanded into France, Germany, and Spain last year. They’re aiming to hit 200 countries worldwide by the end of 2016.

What’s the best move? I asked them at the end of the year when they think they'll head our way.
That manager told me we’d be going global by the end of 2016. She's certain about it.

Oh, this is pretty interesting too:

Netflix announced they're dropping over 30 series this year. They also plan to roll out HDR content soon. It should make the colors look much more vibrant.

Austin Rodriguez5 said:Netflix rotates their library. When licensing rights expire, they pull stuff like The Avengers and swap in something else. They have a massive base of budget movies, but most other titles are just temporary.

Fair point, I didn't realize that.
But I see The Matrix, Gravity, The Dark Knight, Argo, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, There Will Be Blood, and Casablanca on there... plus some new Track movies, Pacific Rim, and Man of Steel. It seems like a pretty solid lineup to me. And those are just a few examples.

If things change, it's fine. You watch it, and if you really want to own it, you just grab a Blu-ray, DVD, or a digital copy.

Having a ton of series all in one spot is what matters.

That explains it.

That German blood probably should have fixed things though. 😁

quietviper93 said:You could have mentioned that before starting this thread, right? Guess it wasn't worth saying back then.

Nah, I just stick to my Blu-ray collection at home or hit up the theater.
Haven't really downloaded anything since high school.

You could have mentioned this on the chat.

Sorry, I'm not on the chat much.

quietviper93 said:Fine. But I honestly don't see the point in advertising Netflix unless that massive corporation actually pays for the ad.

People are hiking up their internet bills for no reason. What's the deal? Seriously. What is wrong with you guys?

Total nonsense.

Keep it legal, keep it clean, keep it simple.

quietviper93 said:Hold on. Why did you start a whole new thread just for movies if there’s already a TV thread going (you even commented on that one!)? Are you just promoting them for free? Why?

Like they're much worse than Best Buy?

There are two threads because Netflix offers both series and movies, so more people can see it and sign up. It's info covering both formats.
I don't see why anyone would mind.

And I'm not just spreading the word here; I'll share it everywhere possible. I already sent it out to everyone on my mailing list. I want this option to watch movies and shows legally in America.
If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to sign up. It's very simple.

Plus, someone might be seeing this news for the first time right here.

That’s not true, they’re there.

urbanhawk39 said:I checked their site the other day and it said it wasn't available in the States yet. I'll check again, but it seems way too expensive to me.😁

Too expensive? 😁

Movie tickets are like $15.
Over here, you get a ton of stuff for just $8.
Watch until you fall asleep.
And streaming services are just going to keep growing.

Hurray!
Netflix!
Going to watch something now.
Signing up takes five minutes tops and then you're set. Just try the free trial and see.

Any better news out there?

Here's our chance to show everyone that we actually value paying for what we watch legally.

So, they have three different models. They look to be priced at $8, $10, and $12.

You get the first month free.

Just grabbed the Premium package. It was 12 bucks.

You get Netflix on four devices. You can watch on your PlayStation, tablets, phones, Xbox, or Apple TV. Ultra HD is great.

New shows and movies are out.

Under the Dome, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Saul, Bates Motel, 12 Monkeys, Hannibal, Sense8, and The Originals. All good shows.
You've got the classics too. Dexter, Black Mirror, Arrow, and Daredevil.

There are plenty of movies too: The Matrix, Gravity, Lord of the Rings...

That’s absolutely wild, man!

Netflix is finally here!

Just sign up for the first month free and see for yourself.

Already watched Kung Fu Hustle, absolute madness!

A lot of people have been recommending Twin Peaks season 2, so I'll definitely have to check that out.

Hey,
I've got some downtime over the holidays, so I'm looking to catch up on some watching.
Any recommendations from you guys? Maybe some series or movies I might have missed that you really enjoyed.
I'm mostly leaning toward indie stuff. I love sci-fi, mind-bending plots, solid sitcoms, and comedies. For instance, I liked Square, Triangle, Exam, and Coherence. I'm down for pretty much anything except gangster flicks or romances.
I usually see the big blockbusters in theaters,
and for TV, I've only really watched The Big Bang Theory, so I definitely need to catch up here. Especially good sci-fi (I even translated the 12 Monkeys series, and I'm into Hannibal).
Thanks in advance.
