Power Rangers (2017) in Movies ·
I looked at it from a business perspective and actually had a blast.

It’s true they spent way too much time on the intro, so there isn't tons of actual Ranger action. But once they finally hit that "go, go Power Rangers" vibe, the nostalgia kicks in.

The visual effects are solid, too, especially during that mountain jumping sequence at the start.

And the bank teller is clearly having the time of their life.

Seriously, there’s no discussion thread for this movie yet?

A really cool old-school adventure flick with great acting. It has a unique vibe that sets it apart from the rest, but I won't spoil anything. Just go watch it.

Based on a true story.

Aha, so in practice, not really. Got it, thanks.
Because honestly, how would you even determine which part of the house belongs to whom?
Wage garnishments and collections in Law ·
The topic is way too big for me to dive into alone, so if anyone has the scoop, I’d love to know:
if a house has three owners and one of them is facing an enforcement order, how does that actually work? Can the Federal Reserve or whoever is handling the seizure do anything to a home where other people live who aren't under any enforcement order? How does that play out?

There aren't many Oscar winners, but I caught the trailer before La La Land and it actually looks pretty good.

But without actual legislation in place, there isn't much anyone can truly do about it.

Maybe they'll make it retroactive one day.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot, but I was wondering why there isn't a thread about this here?

What do you guys think? Has anyone actually watched it? How was the quality? Is this finally a move toward ending piracy here in our little banana republic?
They’re talking about Henry, I think that's it.
More free 3D movies too.

The Meta Quest comes bundled with a ton of free 3D movies you can download, plus the platform game Lucky's taliti. Other demos included for buyers are a virtual mountain hike called The Climb, the VR Henry film, an 'exotic planetary experience' called Farlands, and the Oculus Dreamdeck intro app.

I almost stopped going to the movies back then because the subtitles were absolute garbage—it felt like watching one of those terrible YouTube parody dubs where they intentionally mess up the dialogue just for laughs.

PBS used to have decent translations; they actually understood the tone of what was being said. Now, I don't know, since I don't really watch TV much anymore. But FOX and the other networks have always been pretty awful at it.

I think that’s where the issue lies. Because the market isn't huge, they produce one translation intended for the entire region, and you just end up with whatever mediocre result they can scrape together.

Just checking if they'll dare to use "prosperous" again in the sequel.
I think it was the same translator.
Even though they defended the choice in the media later, they didn't risk making the same mistake twice.
I think it was Sever.
electricsailor13 said:Over the last ten days, I’ve caught two movies at the theater: Star Trek Beyond and Suicide Squad. The films themselves aren't exactly masterpieces, but that isn't even the main issue. The subtitles are absolutely PATHETIC!! It feels like someone just ran everything through Google Translate and hit I'm Feeling Lucky!

I don't even know where to begin; there is so much poorly translated dialogue that fails to capture the spirit of either the English or the American language. Even though I don't actually need the subtitles, I find myself watching them and comparing them to the original audio. My conclusion is simple: they completely ruined both movies with this.

Since Suicide Squad is still fresh in my mind... they translate "Boss on deck!" as "The Boss is on board!" and so on and so forth...

So, here is what I want to know:

1) Who is actually producing these subtitles?
2) How much are they paying for this work?
3) Could I offer my services for half the price?

During American Hustle at AMC Theatres, I walked out halfway through and asked for a refund because of the bad translation. I got it.

Then I complained about the translation for Still Alice, also at AMC Theatres, and they stopped working with that translator.

I recommend this to everyone. Both the movie and the translation are products you're paying for.
If it's so bad that it ruins the experience, go there, complain, ask for your money back, or send an email.

They rarely react, but they are doing it more often now because of consumer protection laws.
That's the only way we'll weed out the garbage translations.

Dobbin is the worst thing that could happen to subtitles. They hire some random student here and there, but generally, their translations are total trash.

Why didn't they close down that big auditorium at the Des Moines cinema one day?

Austin Rodriguez5 said:The whole point of that video was to shut down the haters since everyone's opinion on the movie is shifting after all this time. That’s just not true. Besides, the video was pretty old and irrelevant anyway. Even the original poster admitted they missed that part.

You basically asked for this by posting that video. You knew it would just stir the pot on a topic we've already debated to death. It’s not going to spark a real conversation; it just ramps up the tension. And then you act like the victim. 👏

Should individuals on both sides have been penalized? In my opinion, yes. I’m not a moderator, though. If it were up to me, I'd shut down those pointless arguments right away and just delete all the posts.

I agree, that’s exactly where the issue lies. They wipe out any dissenting views—you probably didn't even see half of them. Meanwhile, they leave all the hate speech up. This thread stays like this because briskhound2 is constantly making a scene. I miss the days when the catatonic beaver and Smoogj were around; they actually kept things objective.

The Prometheus error was that he didn't sanction that four-year-old video provocation right at the start. He should have shut down that garbage immediately before it spiraled into this mess that just keeps happening.

What does the year of the video even have to do with anything?
I saw him for the first time. It was a totally new experience for me.
And then we got into it.
The insults have started again, just like always. It’s people being toxic toward those who aren't even forcing anyone to engage with these topics if they don't want to.

Prometheus error is back at it again, deleting posts and insulting people.
Plus, there’s a post where they call me and another user idiots, even though we usually follow all the rules here. It’s been sitting there for days without anyone doing anything. #stopbriskhound2 #trump

On a different thread, they’re trashing film critics, yet they seem to be writing their own little reviews. #gofigure

I know complaining won't change much. #protectthepeace But I'll say it anyway.
Eric Newman4 said:Some analysts are claiming we’re nearing the end of the superhero movie craze, citing four main reasons

The industry is getting absolutely saturated with this genre, and plenty of people are predicting a massive crash is coming soon

1. lack of original themes
2. audience won't be satisfied with constant recycling
3. The endless push for "bigger and better" isn't sustainable
4. Technological shifts will likely give rise to an entirely new genre

Personally, I just watch superhero movies for entertainment... I don't need to sit through heavy, profound cinema all the time. Sometimes it's nice to just turn your brain off for a bit. Some of them are actually fun...

It looks like Marvel figured out the magic formula by realizing superhero movies can blend into different genres. Comedy, thriller, drama, horror... They could probably keep this going for quite a while.
I'm a fan of what Marvel is doing. I love interconnected universes. If you think this is trash, then what do you call Transformers?
It's clear Marvel is putting in the work, and there's no need to insult comic book fans. People have preferences.

Honestly, I thought I was done with superheroes a few years back, right around Kick-Ass. I haven't watched the new Spider-Man movies or the new Superman flicks either. I just skip whatever looks like total garbage. But hey, Marvel gave me some hope again. Personally, I dig the humor in these movies, but clearly you don't, which is probably where we clash. I'm not really into Nolan's Batman films, except for the first one. The other two are just pure pretension. It only got worse with Interstellar.

People will eventually get tired of it and move on to something else anyway. Doesn't matter to me. There will always be good movies out there, and nobody is forcing you to watch all this. I know for a fact I'd never watch TMNT.

Eric Hayes61 said:there's still a plot hole for me, just like with Wasp...

SPOILER (highlight)... Cancer man isn't actually real; he's just a product of the kid's imagination. It all started when he saw his mom's medical card with "Cancer" written on it. His look is really just his last memory of his sick mother and how she looked before she passed. The question remains: if Cancer man doesn't exist, how can there be victims in the real world?

It’s pretty clear you guys missed the biggest point of the movie.

His thoughts materialize. We see it when he's a baby and when his mom sees that blur. Even when he materializes little Sean, he's tangible—both Mom and Dad touch him. It's the same with the butterflies and when Cancer man pounds on the door and breaks in.
Basically, everything he dreams becomes real while he's dreaming. Then it vanishes when he wakes up.
Everything is real and tangible, so his thoughts, dreams, and ideas manifest. When he's happy, good things happen. When he's scared, negative things happen.

So Cancer man is clearly real. He vanished because his mom accepted him (and because the boy woke up at the end). But that's only while he's happy. Who knows what happens next, especially when he hits puberty.
The main thing is he finally found someone (a new mom) to guide him who actually understands the value of his gift.

Ashley Fox62 said:The movie was alright for me. The concept is solid, but there’s a bit of a plot hole. What actually happened to everyone that Cancer Man swallowed? Why didn't they all come back, like that social worker did?

SPOILER:

I blacked out the part above as a spoiler.
I think it's because they're just gone; too much time passed. And Cancer Man only targeted that worker that night right when the kid fell asleep and just before Mom got home, which makes sense.
But the ending itself is still a little fuzzy.
Sleepy Hollow (Before I Wake) 2016 in Movies ·
I have to disagree,
Toro hasn't made anything exciting or interesting in a long time. He seems to have run out of steam, so I wonder if he can actually deliver something fresh or even just his usual style.
Also, I think he'd probably go overboard with the CGI.
The amount used here is just right.

As for fantasy versus supernatural, I’d lean toward calling this supernatural. Just because there are pretty butterflies and spirits doesn't make it fantasy; it's more like a manifestation of the supernatural.

Regarding that hole, it's likely left unexplained. My best guess is that it represents passing time. SPOILERS:

Basically, everyone except the social worker is dead. She survived because she was still relatively fresh. The father and that little bully only live on through Mom's happy ending story—though you could argue they truly return once the kid develops some skills, if he ever does.
