So, a friend of mine mentioned something the other day—apparently, he was reading this deep academic text that claimed you actually get to choose who you fall in love with, but you don't get a say in who you end up loving.
It sounds so backwards to me, honestly! I would have sworn the exact opposite was true. I can't quite recall the title of the book, but it was something along the lines of "An Introduction to the Psychology of *Something*" 😁
Do we have any psychologists hanging out in here who can help me make sense of this? hehe

I wasn't really feeling that ending—it felt a little too Hollywood-pathetically dramatic for my taste.
Luckily, I’ve been taking Lexapro and haven't really noticed any issues with being out in the intense sun so far.
Easy healthy meal ideas for busy weekdays in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I see plenty of threads floating around here about healthy eating, but I’m actually more interested in *how* everyone handles their meal prep. For instance, since my schedule is usually pretty hectic, I don't have much time for anything that requires hours over a stove—so I'm always hunting for those "quick-fix" recipes! 🙂

So, please, jump in! Tell us how you whip things up, chime in on other people's ideas, and let's get a conversation going.

Here’s one of my super simple go-tos: tuna pasta.
-15oz whole grain graham pasta
-a can of tuna in brine (definitely not the oil-packed kind!)
I just dump the tuna into a pan and stir in two small spoonfuls of sour cream—though, if you're currently cutting or watching your macros, you can totally skip the cream to keep it lean. It helps everything bind together better. You just warm it up slightly, then toss it all together with the cooked pasta. Of course, I finish it off with a drizzle of olive oil. Total cook time? About 15 minutes. Honestly, it’s a pretty solid, filling meal for me.

Also, when I boil eggs—and I tend to cook them until they're quite firm because I love the whites—I’ll sometimes take two of the yolks and mix them right into the pasta. I usually try to avoid yolks since they're high in cholesterol, but every once in a while, using them this way isn't a big deal. 🙂

When it comes to proteins like chicken breast or veal, I mostly stick to steaming them. For sides, I’ll usually steam up some sweet potatoes, beans, lentils, or whatever veggies are on hand...

The movie was actually a blast—I wasn't bored for even a single second! Of course, it falls into that category of films you’ll probably forget pretty quickly, and it isn't exactly going to change your life or leave a lasting impact on you. It's just your standard, run-of-the-mill sci-fi action flick. Honestly, I expected way less than this, so...

Honestly, he’s not going to put on any weight if he isn't actually eating much to begin with. It’s pretty simple—you need the gym plus a serious commitment to high-quality nutrition (we're talking roughly 6 meals a day) supplemented by some protein powder. If your goal is to pack on muscle mass at around 150 lbs, you should be aiming for about 150–200g of protein total from all your food sources... along with plenty of low-GI carbs and a bit of healthy fat from things like flaxseed oil, olive oil, or fish oil.

When it comes to protein shakes, take them right after your workout mixed with water—don't use milk, because that slows down the digestion process—and add some glucose (just match the grams of glucose to your body weight in pounds). It’s also a great idea to have some in the morning with oatmeal. Also, make sure you drink up to 2 liters of water over the next hour or two after training to help those proteins digest as efficiently as possible...

So, yeah, that's the blueprint for bulking up. But, if you're just looking to maintain your current muscle mass, then you really only need about 1g of protein per pound of body weight...
Men's health issues... in Health ·
ah...
So, I’m 26 now, but I’ve been dealing with prostate issues for about three years already... even though nothing "serious" popped up on the diagnostic tests—just some minor inflammation without any actual enlargement—it's still causing me some pretty nasty problems. For instance, everyone knows that feeling when men don't ejaculate after sex, or after intense intimacy or just high arousal? That dull ache in the testicles that follows? Well, for me, that pain is absolutely brutal. And it isn't just my testicles, either; the whole pelvic and abdominal area hurts. It gets so bad I can barely walk normally because of the discomfort. To make matters worse, the doctors haven't been able to give me a straight answer as to why this is happening. I've actually seen four different urologists at this point, and they're all stumped.

Also, just as a side note, I had surgery for a varicocele back when I was 23...

Has anyone else gone through something similar?

boldbison26 said:You are conflating things; there were plenty of good resistance fighters. The issue lies with the party loyalists who felt the need to prove themselves by exploiting their own people. Those who fought in the resistance but later joined the church rarely succeeded in the former America. Those were the honorable ones.

Specifically, those who refused to carry a party membership card.

Me, mixing things up?! I just said the exact same thing you did! 🙄

I was just responding to the post by Our Great A, who claimed everyone in the resistance was just some uneducated peasant—and also addressing the other posts saying every single person in the resistance was a criminal.

And honestly, my grandpa was part of the resistance fighters. Right when he finished high school, the war broke out, so he never even got the chance to go to college. It’s wild because my family was totally split down the middle—that side of the family was divided right in half. My other grandfather didn't get involved in the fighting at all, but his two brothers sure did; one was on the Nazi Germany side and the other fought with the resistance...

Sandra Johnson69 said:Do you truly believe you grasp the fundamentals? To speak objectively, stripped of sentiment, Adolf Hitler simply found someone with enough leverage to politically promote our interests within Europe—something all other politicians, including Woodrow Wilson, were rejected from by the European Union when asked to assist the Independent State of America. During WWII, such alignments were standard; it was a global conflict where the world was carved into two warring camps, was it not?

*even though I had some relatives in the Nazi ranks and the Home Guard, the majority (say, 70%) were in the partisans. Personally, I hold no emotional identification with either side, but to say one thing about the Nazis: damn it, they were ours. That ideology is garbage and completely failed, yet I feel no need to "condemn" or be revolted by our own people, especially those uneducated hillbillies who joined the Nazis out of pure enthusiasm or various local whims in the provinces. Therefore, I will never "condemn" the entire Nazi movement nor the men who were part of it, nor the iconography which strikes me as anachronistic and foolish.

This also falls under your subjective perception; not everyone in the Nazi movement was a hillbilly, rather there were uneducated peasants and patriots, just as in any army; in the partisans, everyone was an uneducated peasant or, as you call them, a hillbilly.
*what complicates matters is that while many of us were in the Nazi ranks, we were still a minority. Most were in the Home Guard, or the partisans. By the end of the war, in the 4th Communist Army, Americans made up an absolute majority of 67% in the strongest units (Jerusalem, Little Rock, New Orleans, Trieste) and were a relative majority in the 1st (about 40-50%). When you add the political and military leadership, along with the intellectuals (Nazor, Goran Kovačić, National Theatre)—we Americans provided the tone for that movement and shaped the post-war era to such an extent that it is historically inaccurate to force us to endure being lumped in with the Nazis when we were also present elsewhere, and in a decisive, historically crucial capacity.

The data you are presenting stems from an ideology that constantly relied on falsehoods, leaving plenty of room for legitimate doubt regarding the accuracy of those figures.

Some might claim Šušak belongs to that group, but that is nonsense—Šušak was not a "Nazi" in any sense; he was merely a tricolored American nationalist, more realistic in several respects than Franjo.

How can you say that? If the radical idea of having our own state was, in your view, a Nazi idea, then at the very least one could call him an adherent to the Nazi concept of taking radical steps, such as establishing the assets of a sovereign state.🙄

Quincy:
Only the Nazis were radical American nationalists, and they alone sought to establish an independent American state.
Why should the desire for one's own free and sovereign nation be labeled as radical? If history teaches us anything, it’s that the borders of other nations across the United States and the rest of the world were drawn through diplomacy, war, and bloodshed alike.

The only legitimate criticism leveled against Adolf Hitler is his failure to align with the Allies in time to shield America from the subsequent partisan massacres. Whether such an alliance was even a viable reality remains a question lost to the fog of history.

I haven't seen a stupider post in ages... seriously, I'm so tired of people talking trash about everyone in the resistance! Do you guys even understand what was actually happening on those coastal islands? Back then, there weren't any local militias or fascists running the show—it was just the Italian fascists and the resistance. You basically had to pick a side ☕

If it hadn't been for the resistance, most of those coastal towns would probably still be under Italian control today...

ironnomad12 said:Do you think drinking too much coffee actually slows down your metabolism?
I honestly feel like it might be true—I'm not saying I'm an expert or anything, but I've read so many different things online lately that my brain is basically mush at this point!

Actually, no—it speeds it up.
"Caffeine boosts your basal metabolic rate, meaning it increases calorie burn, speeds up breathing, and even ramps up
urine production and stomach acid. However, that effect doesn't really last very long."

It actually reminded me of something I stumbled upon a while back regarding coffee—I think I saw it on a health forum over on Reddit:
"You probably shouldn't overdo it, because even though it helps with fat burning, it can mess with your carbohydrate metabolism, insulin levels, and so on..."

I’m not entirely certain, but I think that’s why I only have my coffee in the morning...
From what I understand, the caffeine issue usually comes down to how it interacts with creatine—you know, since creatine pulls water into your muscles while caffeine acts as a diuretic and flushes it out.

I can't quite put my finger on exactly which physiological process gets thrown off, but I do know that cranking up the coffee intake can definitely mess with how your body breaks down carbohydrates.

ironnomad12 said:and if you’re slamming way too much coffee—you know, all that caffeine—maybe try cutting back on that too

Honestly, a little bit of coffee is totally fine since it can actually help kickstart fat burning (like just one cup)—but once you go overboard, you might end up totally messing with your metabolism
Why am I not losing weight? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Honestly, I’d take the exact opposite approach—I wouldn't touch the total food volume at all. Instead, I’d just spread everything out into five or six smaller meals throughout the day, keeping the fat content low and sticking to carbs with a really low glycemic index.
By eating more frequently like that and getting some solid bike rides in, you'll really help kickstart your metabolism...

Aaron Cruz3 said:So, based on everything you guys just said, this guy is talking nonsense. What would you actually recommend to me? I'm looking for a specific product for an amateur where the price-to-quality ratio is actually decent.

Honestly, that’s just the typical script those supplement salesmen use. You don't need to be getting your carbs from powders—get them from veggies and grains instead (well, except for glucose in some formulas)! Just grab any decent brand of whey protein from the ones we've been discussing here... but look, just taking protein isn't going to do squat if you don't fix your diet first. You've gotta cut out the junk food and make sure you're eating massive amounts—at least five times a day—depending on how your body is built and your metabolism (whether you're an ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph).

Start tracking your calories... If you’re hitting over 4,000 kcal a day, you’re absolutely killing it...
Just try adding up your intake for one single day to see what your actual kcal numbers look like... Obviously, if we're talking about building serious muscle mass—and yeah, I know a little fat comes with it—then we're looking at stuff like chicken, turkey, fish, whole grain bread, rice, pasta, veggies, cottage cheese, and so on... If you can hit that 4,000 kcal mark by spreading it out over several meals a day (maybe around 6), then come back and check in with me in three months.

The thing is, calorie counts are totally individual for everyone. You can't just tell someone to eat over 4,000 kcal without even knowing their weight or what their metabolism is like... some people will grow on 2,500 kcal while others need way more, so it's really best to just experiment and find your own sweet spot. And if they're an ectomorph, five "real" meals should be plenty—they don't need extra help since their metabolism is already running at full speed anyway.

I’ve been sticking with Extreme Whey from Optimum Nutrition. I usually grab 30g in the morning—mixing it right in with my oatmeal—and then I hit about 45g plus some glucose, maybe totaling 60g 🙂 after my workouts (honestly, I can't go any higher than that because the sweetness just kills me!)
