in memoriam - AMC Theatres in Movies ·
nimblemarlin6 said:Aside from the AMC Theatres, there were all those other cinemas in downtown Chicago that used to screen adult films: Kozar (which used to be the Apollo), Lik, (the spot where they showed that first hardcore flick in the old country—"Passions"), and Kosmaj (now called Grič). There had to have been a few more theaters running porn back then—please, fill me in if I'm forgetting any.
Posters for the adult movies would be hanging up right alongside the regular feature posters, looking perfectly normal. And the screenings? They’d start as early as 10 AM—which, honestly, was perfect timing for kids who didn't head to school until 2 PM.

Except those "other films" were mostly Kung Fu flicks or a Bud Spencer marathon. My old man used to take me and my brother to the theater all the time—usually for the action stuff—but one day he missed the mark and took us to one of these instead. The ticket booth clerk didn't even blink; just sold them the tickets.
I’m asking the thread starter to make a call—do we want this to be specifically about why they haven't made an Alan Ford movie, or should it just be a free-for-all where anyone can vent about a topic or character that hasn't hit the big screen yet?

Thanks in advance. 🙂

And what’s your reasoning for thinking it’s good? Your posts in this thread are nothing but "I like it/I agree"—purely superficial. Explain your own stance first—then come for everyone else. 🙄

Michael Bay is a genius behind the lens. Most people write him off as just another typical American hack—but they couldn't be more wrong. The man has been upfront about his intentions: he isn't out to craft some high-brow masterpiece. He makes blockbusters designed to grab an audience, entertain them for two hours, and deliver a peak audio-visual experience. 👍
And frankly? He does it better than anyone else.

Same goes for Bruckheimer.

If you're looking for something "deep," you aren't going to find it in an M. Bay film.🙂

It didn't entertain me. For me, it was exhausting—borderline unbearable at times. 😢

Let's try not to ruin this—at least during the opening week. 🙄

The assassination attempt on the President during his visit to the anti-terror summit in Salamanca—it's being looked at from several different points of view.

It’s tense enough and moves fast enough that you aren't sitting there wondering "Why did they...?" or "How did that...?"—though there are certainly reasons to wonder occasionally.

Convenient timing for a Thursday release, right before Bush. 😁
Chloe Nguyen said:Writing a review is a relatively simple task. You basically just state whether a movie was good or bad, and you're done. But this forum is different; we actually debate them. I might claim a film is absolute garbage while someone else insists it's a masterpiece, and then the back-and-forth begins. Often, these discussions inevitably drift into specific plot points. The problem is that the line between a helpful observation and a devastating spoiler seems to vary wildly from person to person. I suppose some people prefer to go into a theater knowing absolutely nothing about the plot before the lights go down.

Furthermore, I would argue that spoilers don't carry the same weight for every single film. For certain movies, the ending is the entire point—it's what defines the whole experience. I actually have a friend who decided to end his relationship, and in a particularly spiteful move, he took his girlfriend to see Sesto cuti. Right in the middle of the movie, he leaned over and whispered, "he's a ghost"... honestly, it was quite malicious.
On the other hand, I mean, who really cares if the protagonist dies at the end of I Am Legend?

Then there are those obvious spoilers that even an idiot wouldn't miss—yet somehow, people still write them down. Honestly, you have to be pretty dense not to realize that a massive plot twist in the final third of a movie is a spoiler. Or the fact that the lead dies at the end? That's a spoiler too. Let's stop pretending everything is subjective.

If you want to have a conversation about a movie, you just need to be mindful and wrap things up carefully so you don't accidentally give away something that everyone is going to find out eventually anyway.
A movie is a movie.
It's an art form!
If someone isn't capable of handling a piece of art, that's on them; they shouldn't be hanging out in a thread about that specific film. They might as well just stay inside, pull the plug on their computer, and go slaughter a calf before heading to the theater!

Exactly. Honestly, I don't see why this concept is so difficult for some people to grasp.

That train sequence, though? It’s an absolute disaster.
Ultimately, you probably won't remember this film by next week, but it’s decent enough entertainment if you've got the time.

I'll remember it.

I watched the movie, commented on the thread, and didn't drop a single spoiler. It’s easy enough when you actually want to.

I think you mentioned somewhere that the movie grossed you out early on because of that stripping scene. I was actually paying attention to that part, and honestly, maybe it was better that he stopped it—it just didn't feel right for the movie... I don't know... it would have been too cliché if she had just stripped 🤷

It would have been better if she just stepped down and made a film where that actually worked. 😎

Look, I’ll admit—the film is significant. But after watching it, I swore off ever being forced to sit through a Spielberg movie again, even if they tried to coerce me with bayonets. 😁 😛

quietdriver3 said:Steven, I love you man... 😍

So, I just watched it again. It’s still great, honestly. But I can't help thinking it would have been—like, freaking genius—with the best ending ever if it had just stopped right at that part with the blue villa. Just trapped under the Ferris wheel, drifting through that endless blue ocean space. And without a narrator. Just one long, slow camera pull-back until that ship becomes nothing more than a tiny, glowing star.

As it stands, it definitely feels about 20 minutes too long. That epilogue just felt kind of stretched out, I guess.

Oh, and fear is still the best character ever written... 🙏 They really should do a spin-off where fear takes the lead role. 😁

But those aliens? Even Senna M. wouldn't be ashamed of them.
