cosmicraven2 said:Well... if it’s any consolation, Paul W. S. Anderson 😁 is actually filming an adaptation of Castlevania this year (over in Canada), which focuses specifically on the Belmont family fighting against Dracula. I’m assuming they'll set the story in the 19th century or even earlier. We don't have all the specifics yet, but I expect more details to surface soon.

I'm actually liking the sound of this already. 😁I've been looking for a scene just like the one in Bram Stoker's Dracula where Vlad Tepes is wearing that red armor; hopefully, this movie delivers something along those lines.

A film like that would be great to see... or perhaps something involving warring clans of werewolves and vampires in some completely imagined world and era...😁
Take >, for example. I was watching it last night, and my favorite part is definitely when they dive into the lore about the original Dracula—that first vampire who’s been around for over 5,000 years. You see a similar vibe in > 1 and 2, specifically during those segments detailing the ancient war between the lycans and the vampires centuries ago. Those bits of mythology are always my favorite parts of these movies. It honestly makes me wonder why we haven't seen a serious vampire film set in a historical period where there isn't constant gunfire or kung fu showdowns... it seems like every modern flick has to be some frantic mashup of fast cars and heavy artillery. I remember hearing some whispers about a potential movie based on the > game, but nothing has ever materialized.

So, here's the question: What kind of vampire movie would you actually want to see? And is there anything about the genre that constantly gets on your nerves?

I’m really hoping there’s an actual story at the heart of this, rather than it just being some cynical attempt to milk a successful franchise for every cent it's worth... 🙂
Dinner with an Idiot in Movies ·
I stumbled upon this movie entirely by accident; I was just settling in for the night when it started playing.
I remember reading reviews back when it first hit theaters claiming how great it was, but I honestly thought the premise sounded way too forced for an entire feature. I figured the whole thing would lose steam after a few cheap gags in the first thirty minutes, but luckily for me, I was dead wrong.
The best part is that the idiot is actually a likable character who doesn't grate on your nerves. He’s genuinely trying his best, but his mistakes just snowball into chaos, leaving us laughing at the ridiculous situations he creates rather than just at his stupidity. 🙂

The real kicker is the whole situation with the inspector's wife 🤣

Has anyone else seen this? I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed this hard.😁

About this itself:
Every Wednesday night, a wealthy publisher named Pierre Brochat hosts a dinner party for a small group of friends. They have a bit of a twisted game: they compete to see who can invite the biggest "idiot." The whole point is to get these characters to ramble on about their bizarre obsessions and passions just so the hosts can get a good laugh, eventually crowning an "idiot of the evening."
While hunting for his next target, Pierre crosses paths with a tax auditor named Francois Pignon, a man who could talk for hours on end about his collection of matchstick sculptures. Under the guise of wanting to publish a book on the collection, Pierre invites him over for dinner, but right before the guests arrive, he's struck by such excruciating back pain that he's completely sidelined.
Instead of a sophisticated dinner party, he ends up stuck at home, at the mercy of an "idiot" who systematically dismantles his life, his marriage, his career, and even his relationship with his mistress, second by second!

The film won a Caesar Award and a Lumiere Award back in 1999.

Has anyone else revisited this one lately? I have this vivid memory of seeing it in theaters when I was just a kid—it was absolutely massive back then.
I caught a bit of it today, and honestly, it still holds up quite well. It’s got some genuinely funny moments, mostly thanks to the legendary charm of Paul Hogan. 😁
Rules of Attraction (2002) in Movies ·
Honestly, the second I spotted van der Beek on screen, I pretty much checked out mentally. But since there wasn't anything better playing on cable at the time, I stuck it out... and somehow, by the end, I actually thought the movie was decent enough.

One of the more questionable creative choices was during that party scene; you have all these girls walking around topless, yet J. Biel is the only one left fully clothed. 👎It’s like they refused to give the teen idols any leeway—everyone else is stripped down, but not them. 😁

Has anyone seen this one?

Here’s the lowdown:

Rules of Attraction, an American film (rated R)
(THE RULES OF ATTRACTION, 2002.)

It's a drama. Lauren Hynde (S. Sossamon) is a student at the prestigious Camden College on the East Coast of the USA, where she spends her time daydreaming about losing her innocence with a hot classmate, Victor (K. Pardue), who happens to be hooking up with her roommate, Lara (J. Biel). But things take a turn after a party when Lauren ends up in bed with someone else entirely... Sean Bateman (J. van der Beek) is just another reckless, wealthy kid at school who wants a piece of Lauren, but he's currently drowning in debt to a drug dealer named Rupert (C. Collins Jr.). To pay him back, Sean decides to start peddling drugs himself... Meanwhile, their peer Paul (I. Somerholder) is desperately trying to find love. In his case, that target is Sean—who couldn't care less about Paul's feelings—which eventually leads Paul to develop a connection with Lauren instead...

The cast features some big names, led by the star of Dawson's Creek, J. van der Beek (Texas Rangers, Varsity Blues). He's joined by S. Sossamon (Knight, Imaginary Heroes), K. Pardue (Unforgettable Club, Imaginary Heroes), J. Biel (Stealth, Seventh Heaven), C. Collins Jr. (Capote, Traffic), and TV standout I. Somerholder (Lose it and Smallville). You'll also spot S. Kurtz and F. Dunaway in supporting roles. As for the direction, the filmmaker uses a pretty experimental approach with split screens and a non-linear narrative, all tied together by impressive editing (Sharon Rutter) and a solid soundtrack (tomandandy).
Norton and Cusack basically play the exact same character in every single movie they're in...🙂

An absolute blast, honestly sits right up there with Saving Silverman/terrible girl Netipican in my book. 🙂
Just a classic tale about a loser seeking revenge. 🙂

I honestly find both versions compelling, though I have to say the villains in the first film were much more impactful 🙂
Black Cadillac in Movies ·
Has anyone caught this movie yet? It’s fantastic—reminds me a bit of a duel here is about something else 🙂

Here is the breakdown:

black CADILLAC
When you’re gearing up for a night out, you have to be ready for absolutely anything. That includes a manic driver who has zero intention of leaving you alone, as the high-tension thriller 'black CADILLAC' vividly demonstrates.

After a night on the town, three young guys are driving home through dark, snow-covered backroads in their compact car. Looking for a quick break, the group pulls over at a local roadside bar where they manage to charm some girls, but also inadvertently spark a confrontation that boils over into a brawl. The guys make their escape, but it isn't long before they spot a black CADILLAC in their rearview mirror attempting to overtake them. As it turns out, the mysterious driver has much more on his mind than just speeding, turning the drive into a full-blown pursuit. Scott, C. J., and Robby start to suspect the locals might be more dangerous than they look...

The director and co-screenwriter of this tense, unpredictable thriller—which leans heavily into horror territory—is John Murlowski. He didn't actually need to stretch his imagination too far for this story about three guys being hunted by a mysterious, lethal vehicle; he simply drew from his own life. In fact, the film is based on a deeply unsettling incident from the director's past, when he and his friends found themselves in the exact same situation. Fortunately, Murlowski managed to escape unscathed, which inspired this excellent low-budget thriller defined by its uneasy atmosphere and unexpected ending. The roles of the energetic young men whose night out nearly turns fatal are played by lesser-known actors Shane Johnson, Josh Hammond, and Jason Dohring, while the legendary Randy Quaid plays the local sheriff.

I just caught the trailer, and it looks pretty intriguing. I'm still torn, though... whether I should dive into the book before the movie drops, or if I should just go into the theater with zero expectations and no preconceived notions 🙂
13th Annual War Games in Movies ·
What really struck me about this movie was the way they captured the Norse world—the clothing, the gear, their whole philosophy regarding combat and death... It was fascinating. I particularly loved how Banderas showed such genuine dread toward an enemy he couldn't identify, right up until the moment he realized they were just men in disguise... 😈
I also appreciated that the narrative didn't just dump everything onto Banderas's shoulders. He isn't some lone judge over the situation; he’s just one warrior in the fray, while Bully is the one who ultimately goes head-to-head with the enemy leader.

All in all, it's a fantastic film. 😁

The Fight scenes are insane, just totally INSANE!!!

Exactly right. Just like Spielberg said, one truck is plenty 😁>
Duel in Movies ·
Movies are everything. 🙏
Shooting in just thirteen days with a budget of $450,000.
When I look at recent releases—stuff like 2fast 2furious, Torque, or Biker Boyz...—it’s hard not to wonder how much money they threw at those projects, only for the end result to pale in comparison to the raw intensity found in scenes from Duel or Mad Max.
It stands as one of the finest examples of how you can craft a truly great movie on a shoestring budget, provided you actually have a solid idea and the skill to pull it off.
My favorite part has to be that final scene where the truck plunges into the ravine; the sound that truck makes... it sounds like the scream of a wounded beast. And that entire fall? It was captured in a single take.

This isn't actually a legitimate intelligence assessment; it’s more of a trivia-based fun quiz featuring some general knowledge and a handful of logic puzzles to give it that "test" feel.
I ended up with three mistakes total—two in the first set and one in the third...
