Can you get Shockwave from a kiss? in Health ·
So, I actually posted in that thread started by the guy who was HIV+ back when I went to get tested myself. You know, just so I wouldn't spend my entire life wondering if my boyfriend had passed something on to me. Turns out, I was fine—the test came back negative—and I haven't had to worry since. But I’ve strictly stuck to protected sex every single time, and now I read this? That you could catch it through a kiss? Give me a break. For a hypochondriac like me, that is just way too much to process... 😂

So, let me get this straight... you actually go through with it?

Thanks a million, truly. I think I've finally reached my limit with this whole ordeal... I’m officially retiring from my career as an amateur doctor searching for symptoms on the internet. It's a rabbit hole that leads nowhere but anxiety.🙏

So, I’ve been spending way too much time spiraling down these internet rabbit holes, obsessively reading up on my own symptoms. It’s becoming a bit of an obsession, really. Here is the situation: I have this low-grade fever—around 99 degrees—and my ultrasound showed a slightly enlarged spleen. On top of that, I’m dealing with night sweats and these sharp, stabbing pains in my chest and back. Now, full disclosure, I am a smoker, though I’ve been desperately trying to kick the habit for about a year now. After seeing my doctor, she ordered some blood work and a chest X-ray. The bloodwork came back perfectly normal, and the X-ray showed some mild hyperinflation in the lungs, but the doctor basically told me everything looks fine. But then... I start searching online. I stumble upon descriptions of Tuberculosis symptoms, and suddenly, it feels like someone is reading my medical chart. Many of these symptoms line up with what I'm feeling. And here is the kicker: I’ve been dealing with this for four or five years! Is it even possible for TB to just linger like that without absolutely exploding into a crisis? Could I go back to my physician, be extremely polite and persistent, and actually get her to order more intensive testing, or is that a lost cause? Also, contrary to what most people expect when they're sick, I haven't lost weight—I’ve actually gained about 20 pounds in the last year. Any advice?
Persistent symptoms... help! 🆘 in Health ·
Look, it probably wasn't even a fiber issue. It’s summer, isn't it? It's been sweltering lately, and when the heat hits like this, your body temperature fluctuates—it's just basic biology. If this is only happening two or three times a month, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. After all, they didn't find anything out of the ordinary during the tests, right? It might just be some passing digestive hiccup or a temporary glitch in the system. Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't let it get to me.

Look, I’m not trying to be offensive here. I am simply reaching out to those of you who actually understand the medical field to see if you can offer some guidance on what kind of follow-up testing we should be pushing for next.... My apologies if my questions came across the wrong way, but I truly haven't intended to insult anyone.

What else could possibly be going on if the blood work comes back clean? There has to be at least one indicator, right? Just one little clue to point us in the right direction. Where are our on-call doctors when we actually need some real advice... I mean, look, I read somewhere that with something like TB, you often deal with a low-grade fever. Since that wouldn't necessarily show up on a standard CBC, isn't that a possibility? Or is it just that every doctor we encounter is too lazy to actually order follow-up testing? Honestly, why couldn't stress be the culprit here?😕 🙏

So, tell me—does that fiber optic setup actually make you break out in a sweat at night? I mean, seriously. I’ve dealt with something similar myself; doctors couldn't pinpoint the cause, so I eventually just threw in the towel on all the testing and searches... It's frustrating. I get these night sweats—nothing extreme, mind you, just enough to be annoying—but it seems to happen way more often during the winter than in the summer. It’s like my internal thermostat just goes haywire when the temperature drops outside.
Ugh, I’m dealing with the exact same headache... one specific drive is constantly getting jammed up. It’s like a glitch in the system that just won't quit, and honestly, I haven't the slightest clue why this keeps happening.
I need a doctor! in Health ·
Go ahead and dig through the forum archives for a bit; you'll stumble upon plenty of threads discussing that exact 98.6 degree fever paired with other symptoms, and honestly, everyone seems to be going through the same thing... I know I am.
Best nasal spray for congestion? in Health ·
operil is top-tier stuff, honestly; I rely on it myself. My understanding is that you shouldn't be using it for more than three days straight, though. Are you finding that you need it for longer than that?
Can you actually feel pain in your lungs? in Health ·
Do you smoke?
Man, those chest pains from smoking are no joke. I get them too when I go overboard, and honestly, the panic sets in so fast that I end up slashing my intake from a whole pack down to just five cigarettes a day. It’s like my body just hits the emergency brake. I had that same scare last year when the pain started up—I went through the whole nine yards, blood work, lung scans, everything at the clinic, and they told me I was fine. But then, just a few days ago, the pain came back hard and stayed for about ten days. Now I'm hovering around three or four cigarettes a day. I am trying, really, I am fighting this habit. This is my second attempt at quitting this year, and I’m planning to give it another shot once the weather cools down; it’s always easier to quit when it isn't sweltering outside. Last time I actually managed to stay clean for two months...
Did you manage to actually get an appointment with the doctor?

Sam Hall15 said:It depends on the age, but if we're talking about a woman in her middle years—especially if she’s dealing with things like an elevated heart rate, sweating, or fatigue—she should definitely have her thyroid checked, specifically T3, T4, and TSH levels...

Sam Hall15 said:My apologies, I got a bit carried away. First, a quick correction: I wasn't referring to heterophile antibodies, but rather the PBA-paul Bunell antigen. This serves as a differential serological test, allowing you to distinguish an Epstein-Barr virus infection from other similar conditions. Chronic EBV infections typically present as a persistent, low-grade fever between 98.6°F and 99.5°F
If you have any interest in the fundamentals of immunology, just let me know

So, is that essentially like having chronic mononucleosis or something? Sorry, I’m still trying to wrap my head around these technical terms... I've been running a temperature of about 98.6 to 99 degrees for the last five or six years now, and my ultrasound showed a slightly enlarged spleen. Since my standard blood work looks fine, my doctor isn't overly concerned.

Look, you’ve already been flooded with advice regarding these temperature readings; plenty of people have reached out to you about this exact thing. Everyone is talking about anything over 98.6 degrees—some for years now, just like I have. If your lab results come back clean, then there isn't much to worry about. My suggestion? Go get some blood work done. If that checks out, maybe even get an imaging scan of your lungs just to be safe. Once everything clears those hurdles, you can finally stop obsessing over the thermometer. Are you actually feeling weak or lethargic because of this fever? If you aren't feeling physically ill, then don't torture yourself with the numbers. I have a close friend of mine who considers 99.5 to be her baseline normal.

I’m dealing with the exact same struggle here. I can't seem to function without my nasal spray, it’s become a total crutch, but at the same time, I’m fully aware that those drops have absolutely wrecked my nasal lining. Now, I’m stuck dealing with constant issues all year round because of it.
