Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever in Movies ·
Adam Wright56 said:First off, MK1 actually turned out well—better than expected, considering the source material lacks any real plot, story, or anything beyond ten lines of text explaining who the characters are.

Sure, the movie is great. But that scene where Christopher Lambert raps the Mortal Kombat theme in Mandarin? That should have stayed on the cutting room floor.

What’s the point of this thread? Ballistic, yeah. I’m heading to the video rental store tomorrow to see if they have it in stock. Not that anyone would actually sit through that disaster.

And I'll say it: Suikoden beats the entire FF series.

Doing this for a friend.

Yup. Mason Kapvel. Head and beard included.
Melissa Moore32 said:I agree, but the problem is that in The Matrix, there was never any talk of peace, truces, or coexistence. You knew exactly who the good guys and bad guys were. I think rapidstag74 might have a Charlton Heston quote to throw in here. 😁

Heh...
Charlton Heston said:Hello, members of the National Rifle Association, and welcome to this event. My name is Charlton Heston, and I was also in The Ten Commandments. I could kill any one of you right now.

When I was younger, I wrestled a lion to death with my face. I can't stand thick carpets. Why is everything so small nowadays? I can't even fit into my television set without breaking it.

We need to defend ourselves from the ape race. It is a fact that over 100% of people in America should own guns, and that number is growing every day. In conclusion, if we don’t take out the garbage, hippies will paw through it in our garage. Thank you and goodnight.

or

Have any of you damned homosexuals ever seen The Omega Man? It was released in 1971, and it grossed twenty-one million dollars, which was a very considerable amount of money at the time. My co-stars were character actor Anthony Zerbe and sizzling up-and-comer Rosalind Cash – two young talents I’m sure you’ll be hearing more of.

At any rate, if I were to shoot both of them and drag their damp carcasses into this auditorium, nobody in this room would be fit to lick the offal from them.

Do you understand what I'm saying to you? I doubt it. I’m Charlton damned Heston! You can’t change my speeches! Don’t you understand I wrote them? I had a Remington carbine semi-automatic rifle in The Omega Man, and I shot zombies from the future with that rifle. If zombies attack us again, what are you going to do if I can’t write my own speeches? Where are your Remington carbine semi-automatic rifles, you fucking homosexuals? Not one of you has any idea how to kill a man. Watch my karate kicks!

At this point I began kicking the air with a series of furious karate kicks. Now, I might be an elderly gentleman, but I tell you – those kicks were very very high in the air!

After my impressive martial arts display, I took out my graphite-based Luger .45 carbine alloy pistol and waved it around for the crowd to appreciate. When they began to upturn tables, I began to suspect something was wrong.

As it turns out, diary, I had walked into the wrong auditorium! Not two doors down, in a similar looking auditorium, the NRA Jamboree was getting underway without me. Well, I must have looked quite the fool, parading my graphite Luger around the Women Dealing With Menopause convention! The security guards that tackled me to the ground certainly looked surprised, at any rate.

Off topic, but it's bloody funny.
Jay Pinkerton is my god, or something..
Melissa Moore32 said:I’m not exactly thrilled about the idea of myself, or my grandkids, serving as nothing more than batteries for some version of R2-D2.

And the worst part? We're still stuck in The Matrix. The One didn't save us; he just cut a deal with the Machines. Total jerk.

And the Mouth of Sauron in LOTR.

Quite the resume. 😁

... anyway, rapidstag74, have you even seen Revolutions? 😁

Don't quote me on this, but I think he had a cameo in Star Wars: Episode III too.

Apparently, if you want to land roles in today's biggest blockbusters, you just have to live in Australia.

He was even in Mad Max. What a guy. 😁

And yes, I've seen Revolutions. 😁
But making up fake dialogue is way more entertaining than that movie.

A murky sky has a psychological impact on survivors. Besides, The Matrix was essentially a treaty—a peace agreement between humans and the Machines.

Since they all live underground, that psychological effect is somewhat moot.
Also, those clouds sit at about 100 meters. Couldn't the Machines just build solar towers ABOVE the clouds?

@Melissa Moore32 🙏 Legend.
Richard Hernandez13 said:I've got a soft spot for Dark City too (it actually came out before The Matrix).

True.
Those villains in Dark City are unsettling. Reminds me of Smith.

Anyway, Proyas is working on I, Robot now. Maybe he’d be more interested in avoiding certain facts... like casting Will Smith.

Almost as bad as Ben Affleck in "Paycheck".

I read somewhere that the producers at Warner Bros. actually wanted Will Smith for the role of Neo.
So much for Hollywood being full of mysterious paths. 😁
Richard Hernandez13 said:But there was martial arts involved. I added that to the post later, but I accidentally hit quote instead of edit—so I deleted the new post, forgetting what I had actually changed.

Fine, the movie features martial arts. But the W. brothers didn't invent that. The film uses this "gun-kata" stuff which is pretty cool.
Also, Equilibrium isn't visually ripping off The Matrix.
Personally, I prefer Equilibrium over The Matrix. It’s a matter of taste, I suppose. How should I put it? It feels more "scientifically plausible" to me. 😁
But seriously, the film feels more human than the entire Matrix Trilogy (damn, by the end I was actually rooting for the machines). If I didn't know better, I'd say Trinity is just a cold machine. A bloodless, unlikable bitch.
Anyway, the bitch is dead, let's celebrate!

I think Dark City is better, too.
The Dude said:If they’re going to go on a tear through the city like this, they might as well take down a few hundred skyscrapers while they're at it.

Hell yeah! 👍 If only one of them had snapped off a streetlamp and used it like a baseball bat. If you're going to steal Superman, at least do it right.

kozz said:Movies like Equilibrium make me wish The Matrix had never happened. Ever since then, we’ve been flooded with endless clones—protagonists strutting around in tight black leather, pulling off cheap bullet-time stunts. I can't help but wonder if the real culprit is just the fact that Joel Silver produced about 90% of them.

Ali kozz, there isn't any bullet-time in Equilibrium at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure they didn't even use slow-motion. And thank God they didn't have Joel Silver involved either.

Kico said:I liked The Matrix because it actually felt grounded. There’s a massive gulf between genuine science fiction and pure naivety, and this? This is just naive.

How is Smith’s transition into the real world any less naive than neo’s resurrection or those telekinetic powers we saw in RW?

Do you honestly think the Wachowskis considered a twist where Kid The One was actually the protagonist? If they didn't, then what was the point of that silver spoon in Reloaded?

Richard Hernandez13 said:The Baroque standard of beauty essentially demands certain "excesses." 😉

More is better than less. 😁

Most people would probably lose their minds over Carrie-Anne Moss.

It actually brings to mind a scene from the crybaby game.
restlessmaker86 said:Why not?
If someone isn't interested in those details, they have no business questioning what an author intended through specific names or any of the other subtext woven into the narrative (especially in the first part).

I was referring to Twin 1 and Twin 2 as names. And I was being SARCASTIC
Betty Bennett10 said:Look, why would a viewer of The Matrix III be expected to know that? You've got random characters popping in and out of the frame—it flies in the face of every standard cinematic rule there is.

But let's be real, The Matrix was a revolution. A genuine one.

That DVD has been sitting on rental shelves for ages.
Betty Bennett10 said:What kind of name is "Oracle" anyway? 😕

And you watched a movie just to nitpick names. Look at the rest: Morpheus, Neo, Trinity, Smith, Niobe, Persephone, Merovingian, Twin 1, Twin 2... I bet some fanboys dug through mythology textbooks just to make sense of them.
I don't get why Neo was the only one among all those Smith clones to actually die.
Was it because he was hardwired directly into the Source?

Honestly, the Oracle was what drove me crazy during the movie. The woman just can't seem to give a straight answer to anyone.

Where do you even find one? I’d slash every single campaign poster in town immediately.

Check those old ninja novels. Though they're usually just wooden props. Mine still gets the job done, though.

Youthful stupidity.
Richard Hernandez13 said:rapidstag74, don't confuse anyone. You're going to get banned. Take my word for it—I saw this coming.

Since I already made my choice. 😁

But this thing about the kid from Zion? It's true. Not that he actually is gay, just that a huge chunk of the fanbase thinks he is.
Betty Bennett10 said:Cypher came back in a pair 😲 And I slept right through it 😢

Who's that kid in Zion constantly chanting "Neo. I believe."? I thought he was Mouse from the first movie—completely forgot he died.

That kid is gay. It’s a unanimous verdict among Matrix fans across the States.
Betty Bennett10 said:True, I slept through a good chunk of the movie, but I'm certain Neo NEVER said doode 🙄

Did you sleep through this part too...
"You are back you filthy cuntsukka! Prepare to be kung-fued!" -- Neo to Cypher
Betty Bennett10 said:What are you getting at? That Neo wasn't THE ONE?😲 😕

Maybe this quote provides your answer...
Persephone: "Neo, I am your mother."
Neo: "Whoa, dude."
Justin Patel said:Morpheus is playing him, and he isn't exactly a genius when it comes to believing in Neo...
If Smith wasn't dealt with, he would have flooded the machine world just like he did the Matrix. That’s why they had to take him out. Besides, the Smith from the first movie isn't even the same guy we see in the sequels; he evolved. He was just some basic program until he upgraded himself to a level way beyond Neo's reach.

Smith basically went Super Saiyan 4.

Total Dragon Ball Z vibes.

The whole fight looks like a cheap rip-off of DBZ. All Neo needed to do was scream, "ZZZRRRRAAAAAAAKKKKAAAA SSSSSMMMMMRRRRTTTIIII!!!"
nimblemarlin17 said:The Matrix stays alive as long as Kiefer Sutherland doesn't sign on for the sequels, because he’s the only one who can actually take them down.

I'll drink to that. Jack is a thousand times cooler than Neo.🙂

I don't think Neo actually beat Smith. It's more likely that Neo was synced to the Source during the fight, and when Smith took him over, he got synced too. Once Neo won the first round, Smith should have just been purged. Like a Recycle Bin for software. Put simply.
