Star Wars vs. Star Trek in Movies ·
Andrew Williams said:I think in some later Expanded Universe book or whatever, Gilad gathers what’s left of the Empire and makes another futile attempt to crush the Republic and turn it into a total joke.

I can't say for sure; I don't read the books, just the synopses.
As I recall, Gilad eventually realized the fight was futile, so he retreated to some corner of the galaxy the Empire secured through an agreement.
Credit where credit is due: after "Return of the Jedi" and the Emperor's death, the Empire managed to hold on for 20 years without a ruler. The guy was good, no doubt 'bout it.
Those editors over at Lucasfilm deserve a firing squad.
And here's another interesting fact: every time a new book comes out, the Empire returns even stronger than before.😁

William Morris2 said:Star Trek needs a Thrawn (and a Pellaeon 😁)

Pellaeon is the only character worth following in that entire Expanded Universe. He’s actually human. Though I wouldn't be surprised if some future book reveals he’s suddenly a Force powerhouse just to join the endless parade of Mary Sue characters who somehow outclass Luke Skywalker.

The whole Star Wars Expanded Universe suffers from this blatant favoritism. A new author arrives, introduces a new character, and suddenly they’re an unstoppable Force prodigy (like Zahn’s Emperor's Hand). I remember a brilliant piece of fan fiction that tore this trope to shreds. Jack "The Jackhammer" Bigdikkus 😁 I’d post it here, but it’s too long—about five pages.

Did you know samurai wouldn't sleep with their wives because they believed it drained their strength before a fight? Instead, they’d just send a servant to do the job.

off-topic... please.
If your friends aren't interested in watching Red Carpet, why are you forcing them?

Or are you just trying to talk them into sitting through it with you at the theater?

Kinky...

Me? 😁
Look, I genuinely can't stand Timothy Zahn. He turned Star Wars into some tech-heavy sci-fi mess where Lando talks like a chief engineer on the USS Enterprise (let's be honest, that isn't the Lando we saw in the movies). Then there's the nonsense like Dark Jedi appearing out of nowhere, and he created that orange-haired character Mara Jade (I was a dedicated member of the Mara Jade Haters Club over at force.net). Zahn is a hack, yet everyone treats him like some sci-fi deity. If he were actually any good, he wouldn't be stuck writing hired gun books.

Now, back to business... 😁
casualotter21 said:I’d probably throw Harry Potter into the mix before Revolutions. 😁But since Revolutions is basically right around the corner—while Underworld, The Last Samurai, and the rest are anyone's guess—I think I'll just stick to watching The Matrix first.

Harry Potter isn't hitting theaters until Spring 2004.
Honestly, after spending my entire summer reading the books (and nearly blinding myself turning those pages), I doubt I'll even bother with the movie.

Same here. I'll tackle The Matrix before the others (provided the local AMC Theatres doesn't screw up the scheduling again), but the truth is, I'm far more hyped for these upcoming films than for something dropping in maybe six to ten days.

Strange, isn't it?
casualotter21 said:Brilliant. We're finally heading back to the good old-fashioned Matrix we all grew to love.

What are you even talking about, Dude? Don't you realize that The Matrix is the deepest piece of work ever produced in any medium? There is nothing deeper than The Matrix, Dude.

The Matrix Reloaded is much deeper, Dude.
That movie was so profound my left testicle practically detonated. It was a total kung-fu bullet-time slow-mo philosophy motion extravaganza—the kind of psychedelic visual overload you only see in those hyper-stylized martial arts epics.
When my egg exploded, my buddy just looked at me and said, "Dude, that was some total kung-bullet-slow-philosophy-motion nonsense!!!" Then he added, "Dammit. Now I have to go buy a new keyboard."
Don't sweat it. Soon enough, you won't just understand why they titled it "Revolutions"—you'll be drowning in fifteen different interpretations of the exact same thing.

Yeah, I'm counting down the days.
Out of all the movies I’m planning to watch over the next two months (hopefully), Revolutions is sitting at the very bottom of my list.

1. Underworld
2. Kill Bill
3. The Last Samurai
4. Return of the King
5. Revolutions

P.S.
I miss my egg.
If it turns out Smith is a bigger headache than the Matrix itself, this movie is going to be an even bigger letdown than usual.
I can already hear the dialogue: "Smith is the real threat... we have to join forces and call a truce..."

Andrew Williams said:The battle I’d actually want to witness? Grand Admiral Thrawn vs. Star Trek. Let's see how those Admirals of the Federation, Gul Dukat, and whatever other high-ranking officers from those various nations would fare against a tactical genius like him.

The only reason Thrawn is considered a tactical genius is because Zahn wrote him that way.
I mean, Han, Leia, and Lando come up with this incredibly vague, half-baked plan that takes three whole pages to explain. And then... cut How did Thrawn actually figure it out? Honestly, the only logical explanation is that he had an actual copy of that cursed book right next to him. Which leads me to my question: WHY does Zahn hand out book excerpts to his detractors? In my opinion, it’s just not fair.

By the way, Thrawn isn't actually from the movies, so we shouldn't be conflating him with the films. If we’re looking for a genuine tactical genius, let's go with Admiral Ackbar instead. Big head, big brain.
Thrawn is just lame. He feels like a character ripped straight from some low-budget sci-fi show. At the end of the day, he’s just a human with blue skin. It honestly feels like Zahn wrote the book on a shoestring budget with zero imagination. 😁

You mentioned Q... Honestly, in these newer books, the young Jedi Knights have become so damn omnipotent that it feels like they’re practically related to him.
And now look at me, bringing up that trashy book again. 😁

granitesailor98 said:I can't help but wonder how a Jedi would even attempt to deflect a phaser blast. There's just no way.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't a Jedi be able to block that? Those sabers are pretty resistant to lasers, you know...

Here’s another one. What actually moves faster: the Millennium Falcon in Hyperspace or a Sovereign class ship at Warp 9.666?

The last time I was piloting a Sovereign, the Millennium Falcon left us stranded in a cloud of space dust.

As for Brin... he's just bitter because the Postman flopped at the box office.
House of 1000 Corpses in Movies ·
It’s more of a house than a hall.

I haven't seen it yet. Is this playing in theaters here or just on DVD?
I was being sarcastic. Honestly, I highly doubt Revolutions will turn out the way I’m picturing it—all sweet treats and whatnot. But if it actually did, I’d be the first one joining a Matrix cult at a local street fair in New Jersey. 😁

I’ve caught a few spoilers, but I have my doubts. If they're true, it makes all that life-saving heroics in the first two films feel completely pointless. Honestly, based on what I've read, it feels like just some educated guessing by piecing together trailer stills, likely leading up to a cheap plot twist. If it turns out this way, I'll be disappointed.

Regarding the DVDs, I’m hearing the bonus features are a total waste of time. Honestly, you're better off waiting until all three are released together. We all know they'll eventually hit the shelves. The Hollywood machine never dies. 😁 Exactly.
Mark Nelson17 said:...but that's why we have the remote. You know you're The One if a certain scene just grates on your nerves—just skip it.

If I did that, the movie would be fifteen minutes long. It went in the complete opposite direction of what I was expecting. Back when I was young and naive, I thought they’d actually tackle the big stuff, like saving humanity or waking people up from The Matrix. They didn't even touch that in two and a half hours. Instead, they were on the other hand preoccupied with superficial nonsense like destiny and prophecies. 😁

That's exactly why Revolutions will probably just be two and a half hours of people being woken up from their pods, featuring some orgasm cookies and a highly anticipated performance of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by the first All-Smith choir from New Jersey.
The Final Destination Trilogy in Movies ·
What a title. It looks like Final Destination isn't actually the end. Is this the final Final Destination? Or just one more step toward being the final final Final Destination?

😁

Haven't seen it yet, but I noticed it was nominated for Best Action Sequence at the MTV Movie Awards, so I'll give it a look.

Speaking of which, I might as well go back and watch the first one too.
Gary Kelly8 said:Then again, we might get a few more shots of Bellucci...🙂

Personally, I’m hoping Monica Bellucci gets a bigger role than she did in the last installment. For instance...

Monica: Trinity, I'll tell you where Neo is if...

Trinity: Let me guess. If I kiss you.

Monica: No. I was digging through the Matrix Help FAQ and stumbled upon a term I've never heard before. That term is... <fast close-up of Trinity, Monica, Morpheus, Merovingian, The Oracle, and David Letterman> ...LESBIAN LOVE!!! <techno soundtrack kicks in>
Gary Kelly8 said:I’m genuinely curious how they plan to fit several thousand Agent Smiths on one screen...

SPOILER
Smith's and Neo will strike a deal where the Smiths get to live freely within The Matrix, provided they use their powers to form Gospel Catholic choirs in Harlem.

Exactly. They should have just taken out Picard. He wouldn't have been any less of a problem.
What's the song from that Diet Coke commercial? in Miscellaneous ·
Iago said:I can't remember the title, but I know it's a song by Šaban Šaulić.

My take? I think Šaban just wrote the track, while Ozzy covered it on his "Back on North American" live album.
The Usual Suspects

There are probably more, but I can't think of any right now.
William Morris2 said:Looking at him now, I'm actually getting a bit bored...
I have no idea why he swept all those awards.🙄

He only walked away with two Oscars.

Neither impresses me or anyone else. The characters are paper-thin.
