Motion sickness while driving in Health ·
Sam Gonzalez67 said:Don't eat much right before a trip, skip the coffee, stay away from anything carbonated... a little bit of chocolate is probably fine though... don't read while you're driving, try not to focus on anything inside the car, and don't stare at things flying past the window, just keep your eyes on the sky or somewhere far off in the distance...
If you feel a wave of intense nausea hitting you, just close your eyes and don't talk... stuff like that..
So yeah, that’s pretty much been my lifelong penance...

And my 😢

That’s why I’m usually the one behind the wheel.

thanks!
Also, if anyone knows about depigmentation... those little white patches on the skin... can you prevent that?

I've got the first one too. No clue what it is, but I don't sweat it since my dad's had them for years. 🙂

The second thing sounds like vitiligo, and honestly, you probably can't stop it. 😢
Math nerd here😁

No jokes🙂

I guess that’s why I’m such a realist. You know how it goes—theorems, proofs, statistics...😉

👍 Then you better demand a double dose of Ormidol just to keep your heart from exploding.😁
Jessica Kim said:I don't know what Western medicine calls putting hot salt in a sock, but it actually worked for me—it eased my earache and knocked my fever down fast.

Yeah, you can call it the placebo effect if it makes you feel fancier and saves you some breath.😁

And hey, if you want to gorge on every random thing you find while pregnant, go right ahead. I'd rather stick to methods that actually work.

To break a fever, you use cool compresses, potatoes, or just take a lukewarm shower; honestly, it’d probably just break on its own eventually. If that fever is from pneumonia, you could soak yourself in salt all day instead of taking antibiotics and you'd still be in trouble—maybe end up face down in a field in rural Kansas for all it matters.

Folk remedies are fine. Nobody's going to call you crazy for sucking on a lemon and wrapping yourself in a damp sheet when you have a common cold instead of grabbing some Vitamin C and aspirin.
However, if you're dealing with a high-risk pregnancy—say, uterine contractions caused by a 12x12 cm tumor—and you demand half a cup of red wine mixed with cloves, cinnamon, and Indian spices instead of an IV, then yeah, you’ve clearly lost your mind.

Just grab a bagel at the corner deli; they aren't expensive and you can just take it with you.
Order some tea at a coffee shop or just grab a soda.

Problem solved. What are you studying, if you don't mind me asking?😁
Sophia Martinez65 said:Everyone’s always talking about how you need to grease the surgeon's palm. Why hasn't anyone thought about bribing the anesthesiologist? Honestly, I think their job is way more important. Those guys are the real MVPs! They fly under the radar doing their thing, but the second things get messy with bribes and corruption, everyone conveniently forgets they even exist. :-)
Look, let's be real: you're talking about a specialist doctor who spent at least 11 years in medical school. $2667 I don't know where I am.
It’s honestly ridiculous. Imagine being a 50-year-old abdominal surgeon, spending every single day handling stinking intestines, and then getting treated like that. $2667A doctor in an ambulance gets hit. $2000Every single day, these doctors are out there risking everything. They’re handling blood without ever knowing if a patient is HIV positive or carrying hepatitis. You’ve got psychiatrists listening to endless trauma all day long. Infectiologists are constantly exposed, often flying blind during those first few days of treatment. Then you have radiologists, who are basically living under constant radiation. Even internists performing X-ray guided procedures end up soaking up just as much radiation as the patient—except for the doctor, that’s not just one lifetime exposure, it’s ten procedures in a single shift.
I'm pretty sure nobody else sees it that way...

Professors get trained up, so they're ready in less than... $1333 Kids are getting bullied, beaten, and humiliated in schools. I bet not a single parent sending their child off to class sees it coming.

Nobody’s out here suggesting you bribe your doctor; that’s just what they tell the patients.
Read the OP's story carefully. And just so you know, she isn't the only one. A friend of mine went through the exact same thing right after surgery. You don't really have a choice when it comes to saying no; you never know if things are going to take a turn for the worse, especially when you're dealing with a boss like this while trying to raise a toddler at home. He didn't even care about her situation after he basically bribed her to cover childcare costs. Just a real class act—wearing some tacky, cheap tennis polo like he’s out playing matches with politicians. Honestly, it's disgusting.👎

So many jobs get zero respect. Even those poor souls working sanitation in Chicago deserve better. $667 I wish we didn't live in such a dump. But let's be real—99% of the mindless crowd driving their cars around wouldn't give a damn about this anyway.

Sophia Martinez65, is it just you, or do your parents take bribes too and actually think it's fine?

You actually scared me there, 😠 🙂

Let’s grab coffee first, then once the flooding stops, go see a gynecologist.

Let’s say you really should play it safe and skip sex for a month. Honestly, I couldn't hold out that long🙄 (three weeks), and nothing bad happened, but it's still better to be cautious.
My follow-up was a month later, and they told me everything looked fine.
I basically earned a PhD in these surgeries by now🙄 (not that I'm actually a doctor), and lately, I feel this weird throbbing whenever the weather shifts or if I overdo it lifting heavy stuff—maybe it's just in my head, who knows.

If you ask me, just make sure you keep your feet and kidneys warm and don't go catching a chill while it's still breezy out.😉 😁

The main thing is that your results came back clear.👍

I'm not checking them. I couldn't care less about legs...

I’m busy checking my chest—nothing's grown there yet, not even a bone.😢

One slice of chocolate cake can hit 700 calories... so by your reasoning, eating two or three slices of cake every day is basically the same as having a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus two healthy snacks just because the calorie count matches????😲

I don't know if they still teach math in schools, but if you need 2,000 calories a day to function, I don't care where they come from when it comes to weight gain. I was at my thinnest when I lived on two Milky Ways a day and nothing else.🙄
Obviously, your body isn't getting its vitamins and minerals, so yeah, it's unhealthy in that sense, but as far as meeting your energy needs, it works perfectly fine.
If 100g of whole wheat pasta has 300 calories and you eat a pound of it every single day, you’re definitely going to pack on the pounds—assuming you aren't doing some intense workout that burns an extra 500-600 calories.
I honestly don't get why this is so hard to grasp.😕

goldengull3 said:I don't get why every conversation about doctor salaries immediately devolves into bribery talk. Both the person paying the bribe and the one taking it are equally on the hook. That’s an FBI matter, not something to be gossiping about on a Forum—where you could actually get sued for libel if you start dropping names. And just so we're clear, you aren't anonymous here. If there's a court order, the Forum hands over your IP, and then your service provider hands over your actual identity.

She wouldn't have any issues with that.😉 Because it isn't libel. She has all the records and paperwork, plus her husband was right there when the cash changed hands.

Kevin White5 said:Hmm... there are two huge contradictions here. Your friend paid about $267 just for an exam and maybe $333 for swabs at a private clinic, and then she followed some doctor's advice—who basically sticks to easy stuff because surgery isn't profitable enough—only to end up paying five times more for a surgery based on his recommendation?!

The second thing is... why did she even see that doctor if he was asking for bribes? (And again, I doubt a professor like the bricklayer would do that, but whatever). She could have easily just walked away and found a gynecologist who doesn't play those games. So that's not really the issue...

What part of this don't you get? She was desperate to fix a problem she couldn't live with anymore, and that was her only option. Plus, they didn't even tell her the actual price until after the surgery was already done.

Betty Bennett10 said:Look, I know there are corrupt doctors out there who have set prices for surgeries, but honestly, I’ve realized people talk about bribing doctors way more than they actually do.

That’s exactly what I thought back when my social circle was still healthy.

A friend of mine gave cash to that bricklayer, and first, she was turned away from the hospital because—get this—they claimed there was no way to get an operation that simply. (I can't remember the doctor's name). By the way, Prof. Latin had already scheduled her two months prior, but since the professor was already retired by then, she couldn't do a thing. So, she went to the Kuva clinic, paid for all the tests and ultrasounds all over again... and then Kuvacic recommended her to his buddy, the bricklayer.🙂

And we're talking about high-level doctors here—the big shots running their own hospitals.

Since I live abroad, I feel bold enough to say this: some people stay quiet because they don't want to rock the boat until they're the ones who need a favor...

Ugh, I'm done with this thread. I just needed to vent.

Kevin White5 said:Regarding bricklayer, I’m positive he’s a pro and does an incredible job. Even if what you're describing actually happened, your friend should have reported it... there are a billion paper trails out there. Look, I know there are corrupt doctors, but they're the minority, and they make everyone else look like idiots. Seriously guys, if you see something wrong, report it! It’s just that health is the one thing that actually hurts when things go south.

It happened. It really did. And who is she supposed to report it to? What evidence does she have? I told her she was being stupid for paying him after the surgery, and her response was: "Who am I even supposed to turn to if my condition gets worse?" She shut down.

I'll say it again: I know not everyone is the same. There are surely wonderful people, but they seem to be the minority. I had my daughter born at Mayo Clinic. Everyone—doctors, nurses, even the janitors—was incredibly kind and helpful. On the flip side, my mom had surgery about 10 years ago with Skenderovica at Mayo (she paid Kurjak🙄) and 👎
If anyone is from San Francisco, can you list a few cardiologists who basically sell beds? The price used to be like $5,000 back in the day.

Complain to whoever you want. The people you vent to are just as useless as the ones taking your money. The honest ones are rare and just do their jobs.

Betty Bennett10, I believe you when you say you found good doctors. But I also believe those who haven't (based partly on my own experience before moving to Germany, and the experiences of relatives and close friends who have zero reason to lie to me).

Kevin White5, you're probably still an optimist (I hope you stay that way🙂), but something is seriously rotten in the American healthcare system.

I know plenty of doctors, and my circle knows a ton of them too. Only two of them don't take kickbacks. I know this because I see how they live. Neither of those two ever made it to a cushy administrative role—even though they’re top-tier specialists—simply because they won't play ball with their corrupt colleagues.
These others, the ones who swear on their lives they wouldn't even take a free cup of coffee, are driving high-end luxury cars, just like their kids are. They have vacation homes, condos, designer wardrobes, constant travel...
From a government salary? Yeah, right. Dream on.

I once saw a Dr. Bricklayer on TV. Seemed like a really decent, honest guy, totally dedicated to his practice and his patients.

A friend of mine nearly smashed her TV. She ended up paying him for a surgery because he told her EXPLICITLY: "The price for my services is $1,000; I am a professional and I expect to be compensated."
Get this: it was during normal business hours, and she had a referral!
🙂 The woman suffered for years. Everyone kept sending her back, probably because she didn't think to offer the cash herself, and they aren't quite as blunt as Srecko.🙄

Both my husband and I work in IT, so we're constantly training and investing in ourselves (honestly, I can't think of a single profession where that isn't required), and if we screw up, we pay penalties to the client. I haven't heard of anyone being held accountable for anything in American hospitals. In the hospital in Los Angeles, I know for a fact people mess up constantly without any consequences.

My cousin actually had a miscarriage in a hospital restroom because she showed up at 3:00 AM in pain, and apparently, the doctor on call—who barely does his job anyway—isn't allowed to be disturbed.🙂

I know there are honest ones out there, at least those two from earlier, but they're the minority, and I have a feeling they aren't the loudest voices in the room.
