Why is family being pushed so hard? in Close to Politics ·
Gregory Peterson2 said:When you run out of actual arguments, you just resort to trolling.👍

I haven't managed to stumble upon a single actual argument from you; it’s just been one endless, tedious lamentation about how the family unit is somehow obsolete.
What exactly are we talking about here, and how does it even work?
Some people love to sit around making jokes about folks from rural areas, acting like they’re some kind of uneducated joke, but if you actually look at where things are headed, you’d realize that those small-town types might end up being the last true bastions of independent thought.
Even slavery, for crying out all, was just another part of the system.

We’re looking at a future where a handful of oligarchs basically own every single thing under the sun, and the rest of us? We won't even be considered cattle anymore; we'll just be treated like disposable consumer goods, nothing more than items on a balance sheet to be used up and tossed aside.
Honestly, I have to wonder what kind of sheer narcissism and ego you’d need to actually promote something like this—let alone sit around and dwell on it for more than thirty minutes straight—assuming, of course, that your IQ is actually higher than your shoe size.

It's like when someone claims democracy is the absolute peak of social organization. Based on what? It's full of holes, just like everything else humanity has tried so far. The way we organize ourselves shifts right along with our consciousness. And believe me, that's a constant evolution.

and every single time this question comes up, someone inevitably suggests we just need to define "that thing" a bit better
but there’s never an actual answer...

Gregory Peterson2 said:First off, you've got a point there. 😁

With technological evolution, we could eventually just pop kids out of a test tube—no parents required. At that stage, the traditional family wouldn't even be necessary. Just high-end tech and a solid incubator, and boom: a world full of clones.
So, following your own logic, why should the family be considered sacred?

Exactly! I just don't get this deep-seated fear the conservative crowd has toward change. It’s been happening since humans first walked the earth. They just end up stalling progress. Change is inevitable—it'll happen sooner or later—but by resisting it, we just waste so much precious time.

okay, fine, let's just say we scrap marriage, relationships, sex, and children altogether and just move straight to test tubes and cloning
🙂
in what sense is that actually evolution, and what's the end goal here?
who actually wins? what does humanity even boil down to at that point?
are those things even humans anymore?

how do you people advocating for this even see yourselves fitting into this scenario?
as owners of a herd, as bipedal creatures with serial numbers stamped on them that you can command and exert total control over?
or do you see yourselves as nothing more than glorified nurseries for cloning cells...

what exactly is the plan, and how does it work?
America needs a full-blown exorcism, just so we can finally purge all these ghosts and demons once and for all

I haven't mentioned weapons or violence once in any of my posts.
It’s just common sense—wouldn't you call someone a fool for stepping out into a storm without an umbrella?
What would be so wrong about having a local National Guard cell in every neighborhood?
Just honest, decent neighbors—real patriots who actually have your back.
They could stay organized and ready—you know, just in case anything ever comes up...

Because that's usually how it plays out in the beginning.
Eventually, all sorts of shady characters slip in and slowly start pulling the strings to suit their own interests.
It isn't exactly hard to imagine a local dealer eventually morphing into some kind of wannabe warlord, or some smooth-talking manipulator convincing everyone they need to bow down to... well, whoever he decides he wants to rule over.

So, how exactly are you planning on organizing them?
Like some kind of local militia?

I already laid it out for you quite clearly: I spent three agonizing years trying to lease a piece of land, only to be constantly jerked around and treated like an absolute fool by the endless, suffocating web of state and local bureaucracy.
I actually went through the grueling process of registering my own small business—and let me tell you, it cost me six months of my life just trying to get the paperwork to align with what the local government expects. These bureaucrats are utterly incompetent; they can’t even give you a straight answer about what documentation is required upfront. It’s an absolute nightmare of inefficiency. I mean, wouldn't you think they could manage basic communication? Instead, you're stuck in this endless loop where they demand a birth certificate that isn't more than six months old, yet they take half a year just to process the initial filing! It’s maddening. 🤣 But they don't bother telling you any of that until you’ve already handed over every single scrap of paperwork and waited through fifty-nine agonizing days since you actually filed that registration application! 🙂 )

I’ve officially reached my breaking point and checked out entirely. I threw in the towel the moment the current Secretary of State decided to slap a blanket ban on all short-term rentals right at the start of his term. I haven't been able to keep up with how things have shifted since then, but from what I can gather, that restriction is still firmly in place. It’s just one of those decisions that makes you want to walk away from the whole mess.

Go to hell. I’m not handing over those blue envelopes to anyone, period. Honestly, I’d much rather just gamble everything I own away and spend the rest of my life drinking heavily with my buddies than give an inch.

And looking back on the whole mess, you might actually want to thank fate that it didn't work out; if it had, you'd probably be sitting here cursing everything right now, having worked yourself to the bone only to lose every cent you invested and end up owing someone else money on top of it all.
So, I guess we’re just officially labeling 3D printers as Star Trek replicators now, huh?
At this rate, you might as well just call the local subway a teleporter and call it a day, right?
😁
Anyway, northernsailor8 and the military crowd, when are you guys actually going to launch this business?
goldengull3, why don't you go take a stroll or something while we wait for those 3D-printed blocks to actually show up?

The truth is, there isn't anything particularly groundbreaking happening with that tech right now.
Anything being built currently could just as easily—if not faster and cheaper—be done using much more traditional methods.
That’s not to say 3D printing is some kind of failure, but until it reaches a point where it's actually useful for real-world applications, I'd say we've still got a long wait ahead of us.
placidranger said:Curious if you actually understand how molten plastic—or metal, for that matter—is shaped into 3D forms?

The theory used to justify patents is fundamentally flawed. In fact, it likely stifles innovation rather than driving it.

What "foundations" are we even talking about? The hypothesis that people wouldn't bother innovating without patent protection? Where is the empirical evidence for that? It's empty theory. And it's wrong.

No, I don't know how it's formed, which is exactly why I was asking Pizza and goldengull3.
🙂
Take something we interact with almost every single day—your car's engine block, for instance.
Inside that block, you’ve got all these intricate channels for oil and coolant, dealing with constant pressure shifts, temperature swings, and this massive demand for absolute precision and durability...
goldengull3 said:Look, 3D printing allows for the fabrication of rocket fuel combustion chambers with geometries that simply can't be achieved through traditional manufacturing methods.

I mean, let's be honest, you didn't actually explain anything there either; you just dropped a dogma and walked away.
🙂
northernsailor8 said:Yeah, it’s completely senseless hype. I suppose it's hard to see how this vague promise of faster, cheaper, and more accessible production—resulting in complex parts that traditional machines struggle with—actually matters. It feels like nothing more than hipster posturing. I guess that's probably why they recently sent it up to the ISS to print components in orbit...🙄

Are you actually trying to lecture us on stuff you clearly don't understand, or do you just lack any clue whatsoever and therefore feel like talking about everything anyway?
"Overly complex geometry"?
Why don't you be a hero and explain to the rest of us how the hell 3D printers even work?

here’s a little free suggestion for you all regarding avatars: just let people use whatever they want

wiredangler5 said:Sash, why on earth would anyone find that bothersome? An avatar isn't some grand geopolitical statement or an attempt to summon a defunct regime; it’s just a user expressing their opinion on where the US stands regarding the Civil Union Act after the recent referendum. Even the signature follows that same logic. I honestly can't wrap my head around what the issue is—I don't see anything controversial about it at all.

I mean, who knows, apparently some avatars are offensive while others aren't.
Some get pulled down immediately, while others just sit there leaving everyone wondering what the hell is going on.

For instance, personally, I'd much rather deal with some absurd imagery of a unified Greater Mexico than seeing a photo of a Nazi officer.

Do we actually have any consistent standards for this stuff, or does the whole thing just shift depending on whatever ideology someone happens to be pushing today?

This question is really aimed at those who actually have skin in the game, but feel free to sit back and chew on it if you want to think about it.

I mean, there’s really no point in starting an entirely new thread over something this trivial, so I figured I’d just come over here and air my grievances a bit
it’s honestly pretty fascinating how nobody seems to care about this particular avatar or signature when they're busy debating politics

Anyway, sticking to the main point, I think it was pretty foolish to use that salute in public since we all know exactly who used it last; we could try to argue it's been outdated for a hundred years, but most people see it in a negative light and it's just something that shouldn't be used,
especially when the whole thing ends up being broadcast to an international audience.

It isn't viewed negatively by everyone, just by people who haven't bothered to study any history prior to 1941.

So, we’re back to this whole energy conservation debate again...
I mean, let's actually look at the numbers: over the last 30 years, how much have we actually saved?
I think we all know the answer to that one without even trying.

Now, if only someone would finally get off their butt and scrap this nonsense so we could just stick to actual natural time—you know, like staying on standard time year-round.
And honestly, if anyone is truly obsessed with saving a few cents on the electric bill, they can always just ditch the 9-to-5 grind and work from 6 to 2 or 7 to 3 instead.

By that same flawed logic, Putin should probably be footing the bill for the partisans, or maybe the Karadordevic clan if you want to get specific.
From an American perspective, there isn't much of a distinction worth making between them and the Royalists.
