So, the new sci-fi flick Star Blazers just hit digital streaming services. It actually premiered back in December of last year, and if I can find some downtime tonight, I’m definitely planning on checking it out.
Just to get everyone up to speed, this movie is based on that classic 70s anime series also known as Star Blazers, set way out in the year 2199. The whole story follows the crew of the last remaining Earth starship—the Yamata—as they try to save our country from an overwhelming invasion by an Alien force.

For some reason, the melody from Macarena by Los Del Rio just popped into my head this morning, and now it’s stuck on loop—I can’t stop humming it under my breath.
It’s been ages since I actually heard that track, and honestly, I’d almost forgotten how massive it was back in the late '80s and early '90s. Back then, everyone from little kids to grown adults was out there dancing to it. I went looking for an old thread about it on the forums, but since I couldn't find one, I figured I'd just start this here. It’s a good spot for us to look back on those days when the Lambada craze was peaking, right before Christina Aguilera came along and everyone started trying to mimic her style instead. 😬
Listen, guys, the recent technical glitches on this forum are getting seriously frustrating, and honestly, it’s about time someone actually fixed this mess. Not too long ago, I was waiting ten whole minutes just to get a single page to load—it felt like I had been teleported back to the 90s during the heyday of Netscape Navigator. 🙄
And now, I'm constantly hitting that 502 Bad Gateway error. It’s incredibly annoying because I've already lost several posts because they just vanished into thin air while I was typing... all that effort down the drain.

I’m quite well-versed in Marvel's lore and the comics—you know, the actual stories—and I was playing most of the games based on them back when we were still using Commodore 64s or playing Terminator on old PCs. I didn't watch the credits, sure, but that was simply because I wasn't interested. 🤣. 😉
Look, I'm not talking about video games or comic books here. I'm talking about The Avengers movie coming out next year. And no, it's not about "thanks"—it's about the teaser for The Avengers, acting like the typical end-credits scene you see in all of Marvel's films.

You have these starving prisoners breaking them like toothpicks, yet they’re carrying plasma guns and somehow barely hitting any Americans? Then, once the heroes finally get their hands on that tech, they suddenly wipe out ten different nations with a single shot. It's a bit much, I guess. 😁
Personally... I find X-Men more engaging. And as for the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, the movie feels somewhat purposeless.
Man, you clearly haven't even heard of the Avengers, let alone sat through the end credits scene. ☕
Just got back from the theater after catching Captain America: The First Avenger. Honestly, what can I say? It was such an uplifting experience, whether you’re looking at the action sequences, that sweet retro aesthetic, or just the bits of humor sprinkled throughout. That said, the 3D was definitely a bit of a letdown for me. There were a few standout scenes where it worked, but overall, it just didn't hit the mark—unlike that Conan trailer, which looks absolutely killer.
Chris Evans is basically born to play Captain America, and so is Hugo Weaving as Red Skull. Speaking of Red Skull, I totally agree with the sentiment that Weaving is way more impactful when you see his actual face; when he's in character as Red Skull, he actually reminds me a little bit of Schwarzenegger. 😁
Oh, and a quick word of advice: whatever you do, don't eat watermelon for lunch if you're planning on hitting the movies afterward. Halfway through the film, I was seriously contemplating bolting for the restroom because I had to pee so bad. 😁 Luckily, I managed to power through until the end, though I didn't stick around for the end credits scene—that teaser for the Avengers. 😢 😁
George Lucas finally dropped the first trailer for that war epic Red Tails we've all been waiting on, and he even gave us a release date: January 20th of next year.
The whole story centers on the legendary Tuskegee Airmen during World War II—you might remember a similar flick from a few years back, but this one looks like it's operating on a much larger scale. The cast is absolutely stacked, too; we're looking at Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Nata Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith aka Method Man, Kevin Phillips, Rick Otto, Lee Tergesen, Andre Royo, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Marcus T. Paulk, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan, and Daniela Ruah.

I'm right there with you. This guy just lists off the biggest issues like he's reading a checklist, and then dives straight into some high-minded philosophy that doesn't help anyone in the real world. If you handed him the keys to a local 7-Eleven, he wouldn't last a day. It’s not even surprising, though—the man has zero actual work experience, so he hasn't got a clue what real labor looks like.
BTW, I’d bet money he wrote his own profile on Wikipedia, much like how people claim William Shatner and Steve Guttenberg did on IMDb. 😂
Steven Soderbergh is dropping his latest flick, Haywire, in US theaters on January 20th next year. It’s looking like a gritty spy thriller along the lines of Bourne or salto, centering on a female operative (Gina Carano) who goes on a total revenge mission after her own bosses stab her in the back.
The cast is actually stacked, too. Alongside Carano, you've got Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Bill Paxton.
As a Catholic, this kind of movie really rubs me the wrong way, so I’m definitely sitting this one out. To me, it feels like straight-up anti-Christian propaganda, much like Milton's epic.
But hey, if you want to watch it, be my guest. I won't stand in your way. 😉

Man, that's true. I totally agree. That's why the mods really should be the absolute best of the bunch—calm people who actually know how to contribute to a discussion with solid arguments.
On a slightly different note, it's worth mentioning that there are tons of high-quality members here who make massive contributions to specific sub-forums. The problem is, that effort often goes unnoticed by the leadership. I get that everyone can't be a mod, but it wouldn't hurt to introduce a "custodian" role for each sub-forum. It would be a way to recognize top-tier members (like Dragonrage in the movie PDF section). These folks wouldn't have the authority to hand out punishments or moderate behavior, but they could have the power to edit posts, stick threads, rename titles, split or merge topics, and stay on top of the latest news within their specific PDF to start new threads and keep the quality levels high. We've used a system like this on our SF forum for years now, and it’s proven to be incredibly successful and interesting. 🙂
Look, everything is fine, I’m not holding any grudges here in the States. 👍 I realize this place attracts all sorts of personalities, and yeah, sometimes the Admins lose their cool, but that should definitely be the exception rather than the rule.
As for the idea of giving an Admin a taste of their own medicine, I think that’s a pretty slippery slope. Not every Admin is cut from the same cloth—they aren't all the same quality, and honestly, not everyone has the best intentions.
