Why did my post count go down? in Forum Help! ·
Chloe Martinez31 said:What’s going on? My post count dropped from over 1,500 down to about 250 in just two months because I haven't been around much. 😢 I mean, who cares, right? But seriously, why are they even lowering them? Some threads have posting limits for people with low counts. If I lose another 250, how am I supposed to complain about the forum eating my posts when I can't even access certain topics anymore? Are those of us who don't jump into 750 different threads suddenly unwelcome? I'd much rather contribute meaningfully to one topic than spam every single thread with half-baked comments... Is it because I'm not active every single day? I don't get it...

There was a huge panic about inappropriate links about ten days ago, so they wiped out a ton of threads, mostly from the chat sections. 🙂

It’s probably because you were mostly hanging out in the chat threads. 😬

I lost 2,000 posts myself. 🙂
Here are some explanations and instructions regarding using AdBlock to deal with those massive ads 😁
How do I change the display text for a link? in Forum Help! ·

David Price5 said:Just copy the link you want. Type something in your post, highlight the text with your mouse, click the link icon (it looks like a little globe with an infinity symbol), and then paste the link from your clipboard. That’s all there is to it.

Here, I put it together in a picture for you.😬

Did the Reddit thread layout just shift left!? in Feedback & Suggestions ·

Regarding this whole thing, I use AdBlock myself and it never even crosses my mind to turn it off.😁

But I still think it’d be way smarter if the site just organized its ads so they didn't drive users crazy, rather than expecting everyone to just kill them all with AdBlock...

I mean, on sites that aren't aggressive with their ads, I actually turn AdBlock off... let them make a few bucks.🙂
On Reddit, I never turn it off because they just harass me.😉

Same here. I try to be a good person. 🙂

Reddit is just... it's just Reddit. 😳

By the way, what was that controversial ad that squeezed the site? I'm curious, but I'm really not looking forward to turning off my AdBlock. 🤷

Basically, groups of people meet up in a public spot—usually a bar—form teams of about five, and try to answer questions written by the event organizer. I did a quick search on Google and saw there might be one happening at a club called Quasimodo in Miami. You should definitely check it out. Good luck! 👋

But that’s not what you wrote here:

northernpilot2 said:If someone decides to ditch their handle, it doesn't just vanish—the nickname stays attached to the account on Reddit, along with every single one of those old posts they left behind. 🙂 I guess that means, in practice, the name is still basically taken.

😕

To be specific—just using this as a practical example—if Sean Ti renounces his nickname and switches to Shaun t over the next four days, does that mean I'm free to register that old name and become the user Sean Ti?🤔

I’d say it, but I really shouldn't. 🙂

Pretty sure that's your only move here.

Actually, you can't. Like northernpilot2 already mentioned.

He’s held this role before. He didn't exactly stand out for doing anything great back then. ☕

briskjackal5 said:It seems to me that the current US leadership is better than previous ones. They seem patient regarding the PiK threads, up to a certain point. Especially Sves, who has been most involved with PiK lately.
I wouldn't say the disagreement among some forum members about that one thread showed anything different.

That’s just my take, even though I actually agree with Herbie that Zadacnica could move to Literary or somewhere else (meaning I'm on the other side of how things currently stand on that issue).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and people have certainly voiced them, but at the end of the day, it stays here—if the mods want it to stay on the US, then it stays on the US. It's their call to make, and they've made it.

-Stipe

The previous leadership was much better simply because they were more engaged with the subforums they were responsible for. Shout-out to Velia! 🙏

You haven't experienced the smearing I went through just because I spoke up about Zadacnica, so you don't know what kind of communication I had to deal with from the moderators. 🙄

Jeffrey Bennett77 said:If Sves could get to everything, it would be great. 😁 These people on the side just get in the way and make up their own rules whenever you write something they personally don't like 😁 Of course, those rules don't apply to them...

R. I. P. Sves 😳

We'll see what happens next, but I'm not putting much hope into improving the moderation of the lonely heart subforum.☕

So, is there any way to actually coordinate with him regarding his availability?
rustydrifter10 said:If this thread bothers you, you don't have to read it or participate.

The topic itself doesn't bother me enough to make a formal complaint on this subforum (which is what I mentioned in my last post), but what really gets to me is the core of this discussion: the blatant rule-bending, the discrimination, and the smearing of users who dare to speak up. I backed up my points with links in my initial post on this thread. I’m definitely not the only one who thinks a topic like this doesn't belong in this section, and it’s clear there’s no middle ground to be found with the moderators. Essentially, the communication from the subforum mods to the users feels inadequate and dismissive.

Come on, don't.

I appreciate how closely this thread is being moderated through post deletions and quick check-ins with the admin, but I honestly feel that a slap on the wrist isn't enough punishment for the lies and character assassination the user you quoted directed at me.

Thanks for listening.

Best.
William Bennett53 said:So, someone starts a thread about moderator subjectivity and how subforum rules can be a bit idiosyncratic, and you jump on the chance to complain that the bad moderators in the US (or maybe just Meadow) are bullying you and a few like-minded people by stubbornly and undemocratically (🤣) insisting on keeping debtors in the US. The fact that there isn't a single good reason for anyone to be bothered by this topic isn't even the point. What matters is that it might fit better on some other PDF and, look, it doesn't add anything to the quality of the subforum. And then, naturally, you get annoyed by a moderator acting stiffly because she isn't listening to your arguments.

Yes, I took the opportunity because a fellow forum member opened the topic with that exact intention. I have nothing to do with the person who started the thread, nor did I think the issues within the Lonely Heart subforum were enough reason for me to personally complain by bringing it over to this subforum, which is meant for more serious moderation grievances. I realize there are bigger editing fires burning right now than what I’m pointing out, which is why I mentioned that in my first sentence.

reading your post mostly reminded me of two things:
1. the marriage referendum (that's a perfect analogy)
2. my mom's

I already posted this in the US, but here it is again: if nothing else, debtors should stay where they are because there's a group of people who want to read them and/or write them. Their presence doesn't diminish or devalue the institution of marriage... excuse me, I meant forum participation.

I don't have any comment on the rest of your post, other than perhaps reporting it as an ad hominem attack on my character (which would be pointless since you hold a position that allows you to get away with all sorts of inappropriate posts). You're reading something into my post that wasn't even implied, let alone written explicitly—kudos to you for that 🙏—and I think you should perhaps teach your colleague Meadow how to actually read and understand a post.

Thanks for the reply.

Best.
This might sound trivial, since I think the OP is talking about specific rules that lead to user penalties, but I've personally dealt with this exact kind of lazy moderation from the current subforum mods. Lonely Heart.

There’s one relatively useless subforum on this board. Top topic. It doesn't really add anything to the quality or engagement of this subforum, other than just being there because it’s always been around. During some of the better leadership periods on the US boards, things actually felt productive. Her existence was called into question, but things were settled through a fair, democratic process. The current moderation team won't allow any criticism on this topic whatsoever. You can find the full discussion regarding appeals for this subforum starting from post 654.They've made up all sorts of rules on several occasions. I can't even link to the specific posts that called their rules into question, since they're part of this same thread. Comments regarding the debtor. Deleted.Wouldn't we have reached that sense of perfect peace if we had just let the rest of the discussion fade away? The moderators from some of those unrelated subforums were getting involved. It’s just inappropriate comments, honestly. A visual representation of our current moderator, Meadow, using an image of the Borg Queen from Star Trek. Post 2400. She’s hinting that the moderator might be bending the rules to suppress anyone who dares to disagree with her directives. It feels like she's weaponizing those same policies just to discredit people—including me, simply because I don't buy into this "top-tier" topic she's pushing.

I won't pretend that I’m a fan of having such controversial topics on this board. Honestly, I jump into those debates once in a while just for the hell of it, but some of the way Meadow has handled things with me feels wrong. It started because she was being pretty casual about the rules—which aren't even clearly defined for this thread—and it spiraled into an incredibly awkward, condescending exchange in my DMs. As someone who spends a lot of time here and takes this community seriously, I found the whole thing pretty insulting.

Thanks for listening.

John Flores6 said:Hey, I’m struggling a bit here—everything basically went downhill after my mom passed away when I was in 4th grade. Since then, life has just been… well, a mess. I became super sensitive, and honestly, I barely have any friends. Most people who hang out with me only stick around because they feel bad for me, which sucks. Even when I thought I finally found a real buddy back in 7th grade, he ended up totally screwing me over. Then, things got even heavier in 8th grade when my dad remarried—that really crushed me and made me shut down completely. I actually had some pretty intense mental breakdowns back then. Lately, I’ve been trying to bottle everything up, so those outbursts aren't happening as much, and I guess I feel a little better? I really wanted a fresh start, so when it came time for high school, I didn't pick the local school nearby. Instead, I chose one that requires an hour-long commute each way, hoping I could find a new crowd—people who wouldn't know anything about my past or my issues. But man, it hasn't worked. I’ve been at this school for two months now and nothing has changed. I act totally normal, just like everyone else, and people are friendly enough, but nobody really reaches out or includes me. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit on the bigger side—I’m about 6'1" and 200 lbs. 🙂 I just don't get what the issue is. I seriously can't seem to make actual friends or find anyone I can truly trust. I just feel so alone.🙂

Imagine if some random person just started dumping their life story on you, acting like you're suddenly their absolute best friend. It’s a lot to handle. 😳
The reality is you’re never going to find someone who checks every single box right out of the gate. It just doesn't work that way. 🙂

You just need a little more self-confidence and a way to vent all that negativity.

Good luck!
Can you get banned for necroing old threads? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Robert Nelson63 said:Posting this small group of users and their private banter is just misleading, because it isn't the truth.

The subject I’m avoiding mentioning is the private chatter from a few users over the last three days (I won't point out that more than half of them hold "admin roles" 🙄), and it has absolutely nothing to do with why this topic was originally started or bumped. It doesn't add anything to the subforum either. It just serves as a way for that handful of people to trade inside jokes. If anything, it's just acting like a chat thread for them. 🤷 🤔 😳

If you really want, I can pull the exact stats on who wrote what during that specific window, but honestly, it'll take me at least an hour to dig all that up. ☕

rustydrifter10 said:Someone bumped this thread just to spam, and then a few people jumped in with some random off-topic talk about bourbon. I think the posts were deleted for good reason. Your point is fine on its own, but it shouldn't have happened in an active thread—not like this one where we're questioning why it was even revived.

So, if a thread gets bumped between 10 AM and 11 PM when there aren't any moderators active on the US site, and it manages to get at least eight constructive replies, does that mean we can actually enjoy a fun discussion where a bit of off-topic chatter is allowed? 🤷

I'm just wondering why activity in one revived thread (the one I won't link to just to be safe) is tolerated as a space for a small group of users to have their own private chats, while other attempts to revive threads (like the one I did link) aren't even given a fair shot at becoming something useful and fun.🤔
