Brenda Gonzalez12 said:Let me address just the part regarding NRZ. Out of his nearly 5,000 posts, about 4,000 were nothing but pure trolling, ad hominem attacks, derailment, mocking people, and tasteless comments that have recently turned into blatant insults. Using profanity against parents, telling people "go do chores at home," saying things like "you stink," or calling someone an "idiot"—absolutely NO ONE, and I mean nobody, used that kind of language except him. And he used it constantly and aggressively against anyone who "dared" to disagree with him. Sure, he had a few other forum members backing him up in a similar (though slightly milder) way, but they've all gone quiet now.
I don't want to dive into specific threads I wasn't part of, but it’s really strange that complaints weren't just coming from NRZ, but from basically every corner of the Alternative section.
If you don't believe me, just take a stroll through the NRZ section and look at his old posts... you'll see for yourself exactly what "style" he used when debating.

Also, regarding the eternal defender, Gregory Ramirez2. If he had been hit with just 10 points for every single post that should have been reported... he would have racked up a few thousand. He was dropping maybe thirty insulting posts a day—stuff that would get any moderator on any major US forum to permanently ban him. Here, he was tolerated, given warnings, and we didn't go overboard with moderation, but when someone crosses the line, they cross it. And no, a 5-day cooling-off period wouldn't have helped. Every time he got one of those breaks, he’d come back even harder and even more aggressive.
And don't think it's just my opinion; that's why I'm speaking up now. Even though I only participate in a few specific threads, there was clearly a whole group of users from other sections who were fed up.

And honestly, Gregory Ramirez2, invoking justice and fairness is a little funny coming from someone who constantly cites the forum and sub-forum rules and dreams of becoming a moderator, isn't it, Gregory Ramirez2? The rules are the same for you, for me, and for him. We can debate, but let's keep it civil as much as possible. Anyone who breaks them gets kicked out. It doesn't matter how many great, high-quality posts they've written elsewhere. I could list a ton of users who might be a bit eccentric but write incredibly insightful stuff on many topics. But the rule applies to everyone, regardless.

Who are you even talking about here? And where do we draw the line between just chatting and actually targeting another user?

You want the truth?
Over a year ago, I actually wanted to be a moderator for Alternative. Back then, I was desperately trying to find medical help for my best friend's mom. See, before the search tool was opened up to everyone, only the mods and admins had access to it—and when you're trying to find life-saving info fast, every second counts. It was literally a matter of life and death for her. So, I reached out to rustydrifter10 personally about it.
She told me the mods pick their own people, and when I asked if there was a way to pay for access to the search tool, she said no. I'm only sharing this to show you guys I'm being 100% real and coming from a good place.

Lately, a few people have suggested I take on a mod role here, but I just don't have the time or the need anymore (the search tool is available to everyone now—it's not quite as powerful as the mod version, but it works). Good moderation takes a massive amount of time, effort, and serious self-control—like making sure you treat your buddies exactly the same as everyone else. I know this because I spent two years being a really dedicated [and highly praised!] supermod on an international forum. But between work and life, my free time is drying up as the year winds down.
So, I told them that while I'd love to help—mostly to keep the quality high and to protect people looking for help from getting bombarded by junk while they're searching—I just can't do it.

Ever since I was a kid, I've fought against injustice and tried to help whenever I could, but I won't let that fight come at the cost of my own sanity and life.

On the topic:
I really believe we should give people one last chance with a public warning before we basically "execute" or lynch them online—especially if they haven't had a fair shake at defending themselves.

Think about it: imagine if drivers didn't get tickets for minor infractions, but instead, one day they just had their licenses revoked for life. I'm not talking about extreme cases like reckless street racers or killers, obviously.

PS: Just so we're clear, these thoughts apply to all forum members, not just specific people.

I honestly think you need to sit down and get your own head straight first, Elizabeth Jackson. You really need to decide where you stand on this and figure out what’s actually acceptable and what isn't. Even the moderator... No worries at all! Look, you’re more than welcome to jump into the discussions and debate whatever you like—as long as we’re all playing by the house rules of the forum and its sub-sections, of course! If you’ve got an itch to argue, go right ahead and do it just like any other regular here, following the same guidelines everyone else does. Otherwise, we’re going to end up in that ridiculous situation where the judge is also the defendant, and that’s a mess nobody wants. Honestly, it feels like you’re just trying to clear out the entire sub-forum by shutting down anyone who dares to ask a sensible question or asks for actual proof to back up what you're saying. It seems like your whole goal is to sweep away anyone pointing out when you're being a bit nonsensical or just plain wrong! Listen, if you get to have your opinion, then everyone else gets to have theirs too. But here’s the kicker: if you’re going to take a stand, back it up with real evidence. Don't just toss out random YouTube videos or cite some "research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology" that sounds like something you made up on the spot!

Honestly, where do you get the nerve to sit there and accuse someone of labeling people, hurling insults, or trying to gatekeep what counts as a valid opinion? It’s all about the right to have a stance and participate in a democracy, isn't it? Seriously, Elizabeth Jackson, have some shame! You basically just handed yourself over on a silver platter and let yourself look foolish.

It sounds like you’re totally missing the point regarding what moderators actually do and why they’re here in the first place! Honestly, it feels like you might have been raised in some sort of strict, old-school regime or an Inquisition where you weren't allowed to say a single thing out of line. This is an online forum, buddy—it's the 21st century! On a site like this, you should be able to talk about anything you want, as long as you stay on topic and follow the community guidelines. A moderator doesn't need to be an expert on every single niche subject; their only job is to make sure everyone plays by the rules. But you? You seem to be pushing for something much more extreme and dangerous... you're basically advocating for stripping people of their right to express themselves, and you're saying it out loud!

I can only imagine how you view yourself! Honestly, I’d bet money you see yourself sitting right there in that moderator chair, ready to swoop in and scrub away any posts that don't fit your "perfect" little vision. You really think you're some kind of enlightened genius, don't you, Elizabeth Jackson? Well, thank goodness the moderation team actually picks people based on merit rather than ego... at least the community will actually stick around to talk about the real topics!

So, you actually agree with this, yet you’re still out here preaching about everyone having a right to their own opinion? Honestly, Gregory Ramirez2, I have to hand it to you—you’re being incredibly consistent! Especially considering all those times you used to vent and complain about how much better of a moderator you would be at a site like Reddit compared to the current staff, and all your grand plans for how you’d run the show? Remember that? Well, newsflash: the internet never forgets, Gregory Ramirez2, and some of us who’ve been hanging around here long enough certainly haven't...
It’s honestly wild seeing such petty, small-minded interests at play... but hey, I guess it’s good to have threads like this where people finally show their true colors.

Are you seriously trying to strip away my right to speak my mind?! 👍

Yeah, true—the internet never forgets! That’s exactly why he can't escape the truth! —not that I’d ever want to use your vocabulary! 😂

Take a good, hard look at what you just typed and really think about it—seriously! If you actually think you have the guts to back that up, then fine, go ahead and apologize... but honestly? I think that’s a total mission impossible.

On the other hand, you totally could—I mean, you’ve definitely got some serious potential there—it just really comes down to when you actually decide to go all in!
When multi-quoting gets complicated in Forum Help! ·
Every single time I use the multi-quote feature—I don’t even know what else to call it—this site just hangs onto it! It’s driving me crazy because whenever I go to type a new reply, that old multi-quote from before just pops right back up in the text box automatically.

The only way I've figured out how to fix this mess so far—and honestly, it's such a pain—is to track down the specific thread and find every single individual post I quoted, then manually uncheck them one by one.

It is seriously testing my patience here! And the worst part? This thing has never acted up like this before—not even once in all my time being a member of this forum until just a few days ago.

Does anyone have any actual advice on how to solve this little riddle? 🙂
Summary:
So, get this—because the PDF side of the forum hasn't been moderated in forever, you can actually end up getting a permanent ban from the entire site just by racking up points! It’s wild. Instead of just getting hit with a ban on a specific section, you get the whole works—no heads-up, no warning, nothing. And the worst part? They don't even care about mitigating circumstances when deciding how hard to drop the hammer. Like, seriously?! Just total overkill without any chance to explain yourself.

Hey admin, I've got a few quick questions for you!
Where’s the justice in all this? Seriously, where's the quality control when it comes to actually doing the job—and more importantly, where's the oversight from the forum admins?
How do we even give a guy like this a fair shake? I mean, seriously—how can we ensure he gets a legit process when you factor in all the mitigating circumstances? We're talking about the sheer negligence from the mods and the admin team... plus, let's not forget the massive contribution he actually made to that PDF! It’s gotta count for something, right?

SUBJECT/CASE
Long story short:
Man, that PDF hasn't been moderated at all for like a month straight! Seriously!

Finally, someone from the admin team stepped up to fix this—thank you!—but man, things got a little messy in the rush. Since they were playing catch-up with all the unmoderated posts, they ended up nuking a specific user's posts so fast that their points just skyrocketed. Instead of getting hit with a standard 1, 3, 7, or even a 30-day ban, the guy ended up getting slapped with an instant permanent ban from the entire forum!

In a sane world, if this guy was actually being moderated properly, he’d have been slapped with a multi-day ban by now—just enough time to go cool off and maybe, I don't know, actually think about his actions so he doesn't keep pulling the same nonsense!
So, this is how you get slapped with a permanent ban from the entire forum—zero warnings, no nothing. Just straight to jail!

It’s kind of like how things work in the real world, too—take a criminal who gets put on probation for a set period. If they go out and commit another crime while they're still under that supervision, they don't get a second chance; they just face the full, unconditional sentence. No questions asked!

Look, when that moment actually hits, the defendant’s got plenty of constitutional backup—we're talking two or even three different legal avenues to mount a defense!

That hasn't been sorted out for that particular forum member yet!
So, basically, you could start by hitting them with an X-day ban—and if they still don't get the hint and keep acting up? Then you step it up to a longer suspension, or even just a "hey, watch it" warning that a permanent ban from that specific PDF or the entire forum is looming right around the corner!

When it comes to sentencing, the court doesn't just pull numbers out of thin air—they actually look at a whole bunch of extra factors too! mitigating circumstances...which could actually help lower the fine—or maybe even get the whole thing tossed out entirely!

That one user is seriously crushing it—they're helping everyone out so much with those specific PDF topics!
Moderating "Alternatives in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Elizabeth Jackson said:I have to agree with the OP; the alternative subforum has become a total mess lately. Since there hasn't been any active moderation, it’s been flooded with useless spam and trolls who constantly resort to insults and personal attacks, mostly coming from the same handful of individuals.
That’s why I feel it’s vital to appoint competent moderators immediately to get things back under control.
And I am completely aligned with what Gregory Ramirez2 suggested—that it would be highly ideal for the moderators in that section to be users who are actually familiar with alternative lifestyles and who embrace those values themselves.
In my view, such people would moderate most effectively because they could contribute meaningfully to discussions given their knowledge, which helps them better understand the pulse of the subforum. Of course, an alternative mod doesn't strictly have to be an "alternative" person through and through, but it seems completely illogical to appoint someone whose worldview is diametrically opposed to everything the community stands for.

I think we can all agree that if you had a thread about grilling or eating meat, it would be an absolute absurdity to have a moderator who has been a strict vegan for twenty years and finds the very idea of meat repulsive. 🤦
I doubt any sane person would even want to moderate a section like that, but if they did, I suspect they might end up acting like a typical stubborn contrarian, using their position just to obstruct whatever they disagree with.
Also, as far as I know, the natural sciences or medical sections don't have moderators drawn from "alternative" circles.
So why on earth should the alternative section be policed by people from "mainstream scientific" circles?
It would make much more sense to have a moderator who understands the subject matter, lives that way, is genuinely interested, and brings actual ideas and insights to the table. Such a person would naturally be more fair and effective in their moderation.
However, if a moderator has no clue about the topic they are overseeing, fundamentally disagrees with it, and shows visible hostility toward it—then what is the point of them moderating something that is clearly an eyesore to them?
They'll ruin the subforum, traffic will plummet, ad clicks will drop, and the admins will see less revenue.
Basically, nobody wins if you pick a moderator like that.

Anyway... my suggestion is to please appoint new, capable, and fair moderators as soon as possible—people who actually know what they are looking at and whose personal views won't clash with the community's core principles. Otherwise, you'll just finish off a subforum that is already struggling.
I believe the regular users who follow this site closely could offer some really solid, practical suggestions for potential candidates.
Though, I've heard rumors that mods are selected through a different process altogether....

That’s a fair point. 👍
And while we're on the subject—everyone should have the right to express their own opinion. That's actually what the forum rules establish.

Any persistent attempts to call out people with different views as ignorant or accusing them of posting "nonsense" is really nothing more than trolling.
We all know why sanctions are handed out—it's for violating the clearly defined rules of the forums and sub-forums, which are visible to everyone.
Making a statement like Brenda Gonzalez12's, claiming someone is writing things that are "insane, inaccurate, and harmful," is just a waste of time. It's essentially just repeating the same argument over and over because they aren't actually breaking any specific rules—it's merely one individual's subjective perception.

A moderator absolutely shouldn't, and indeed must not, be someone who judges from their own personal standpoint about what qualifies as "insane, inaccurate, or harmful." Instead, they should be moderating according to the forum rules, which are clearly laid out.

I think the quoted parts pretty much sum up everything needed to keep this PDF section, its users, and the entire site—plus the owner!—running smoothly. It would be awesome if the admin team kept all this in mind when picking out new mods for the Alternative PDF section.

If you really wanted to, you could go through a medical PDF and try to find proof that every single drug, chemo treatment, or radiation session is actually harmless, etc., etc.

I think we're ALL pretty aware of at least one thing here:
If mainstream medicine were truly successful and totally safe for every single illness out there, then an alternative wouldn't be even remotely interesting to the average person.

The "most human" and precious things anyone can own are health, love, and hope.
If someone actually uses their brain regarding all of that and looks at the various info available, they’ll be able to judge what’s best for them when it comes to health and healing.
So, let's just let everyone decide for themselves—whether they want to take any advice from this forum, whether they take it whole or just bits of it. Let's leave it up to the forum members instead of trying to play cop and judge.
Don't rob people of what's rightfully theirs—it's like taking a bone away from a dog!

I'm with you on the impartiality thing—it would definitely be better if the person handling the "dry" moderation (insults, attacks, off-topic stuff) was someone who isn't even interested in alternatives, BUT looking at it from the angle of general quality moderation, just ask yourselves this:

For example, would a pediatrician be better if they actually love kids and care about healing (like they were "born" for it), or someone who doesn't even like kids and just finished med school because it pays well or their parents pushed them into it?
It's the exact same deal with quality vs. "dry" moderation on these PDFs.

When it comes to EVERYTHING people do, the most important thing is their character.
If someone has actual character, they might make a great mod regardless of whether they're tied to the specific topic of the PDF or where they are/will be as a moderator.

Btw, a mod for any PDF—no matter their profession—can still be biased toward certain members or pick on someone specifically. So, neither their expertise nor a lack of it determines how good they moderate; it all comes down to character first and foremost.

Thanks, I'll pass on the coffee 😉

The alternative sub is such a specific corner of the internet (it’s got plenty of fans, but also a fair share of "haters"), so I really think it should be reserved for people who actually care about the alternative scene rather than just anyone wandering in. We need to maintain some kind of order there instead of just shutting people up—deleting posts or locking threads whenever it feels convenient. If we do that, people are just going to lose interest in joining the conversation, and honestly, I don't think that's what anyone wants, nor does it help anyone in the long run.

Does anyone know if there's actually a way—like an option or a setting—to see if someone has actually read my Gmail messages? It would be awesome to know if they opened it and exactly when (like the specific day or time) they checked it out.

You know, kind of like those read receipts you get with standard text messages or MMS.

Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
They know exactly where the blockage is—I've actually posted about this before. They did an X-ray (I drank some white liquid beforehand so they could spot exactly where the food was stuck on the scan), and you can see it’s sitting right there just before hitting the stomach.

I just tried taking that "medication" again—this time I tried swallowing it with a chewed-up banana, then a peeled peach, and finally some water—but I ended up throwing everything back up, except for my beloved chicken...

Well, nothing's working, so I'm heading to the ER to have them pull it out. I'm seriously losing strength here since I haven't been able to eat or drink anything for a while, and I can't just keep going like this until I pass out.

I’ve gotta vent to the mods for a sec—they moved my thread from the alternative medicine section over here to classic medicine...

I put it there on purpose! I was hoping someone might know a natural or home remedy to help me get this thing back down or just swallow it easier.

Look, you shouldn't be "playing" moderator when someone's health is on the line—or even their life...

Honestly, it feels only fair if the thread gets moved back to the alternative section (and then I'll just delete this post). Even if it doesn't work for me—though maybe it will!—it could still help someone else down the road. Plus, since the search tool is being glitchy right now, anyone looking for similar help in the alternative section won't even realize this info exists over here.
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
Look, what I’m drinking isn't actually meant to soothe my esophagus—it's more about getting those muscles to finally relax.
It's so they stop clamping down on the food, so when I wash it down with water, it can actually push everything along toward my stomach.
It worked twice yesterday—managed to get things moving down!

I’m gonna give it one more shot, and if that fails, I'm heading in for the procedure.

The real issue isn't just that stuck piece of food sitting in my esophagus; it's the fact that I am absolutely parched. I haven't been able to keep anything down for over 48 hours—not even a sip of water (and obviously no food, though you can last way longer without eating than without drinking). That’s a huge reason why I’ve decided if I can't swallow this myself by midnight, I'm going in for the surgery.
I'm even throwing up the smallest sips of water, and honestly, even my own saliva is coming right back up...
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
I really don't want to kick the bucket too early just to make some folks happy—whether that's people I know in real life or you guys here on the forum! 😬

Unfortunately, every single time they try to pull a foreign object out of someone's intestines, things can go south fast. Apparently, while they're working on it, there's a risk of puncturing the intestinal wall, which lets oxygen leak into the cavity somewhere—I can't quite remember the specifics—and then for the patient, it's The end 🙂 —at least, that's what my doctors told me.
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
Thanks so much for the advice and for looking out for me! 🙂
So, I spent yesterday hanging out in the ER (from about 6:30 PM until after midnight...).
They ran some scans and tests—though I haven't agreed to a gastroscopy yet, since I'm still weighing my options—and after I drank this white liquid for an X-ray, they found that the food is basically "stuck" right at the bottom of my esophagus, just before the stomach.

The doctor prescribed the exact same meds I already picked up from the pharmacy, so I'm supposed to keep taking them.

I actually took those "meds" twice yesterday (before heading to the ER) and both times the food moved down—toward the stomach.
Unfortunately, once I got back from the hospital and again around 11 AM today, I took those "meds" twice, but they didn't help move the food any further down into the stomach, since it’s stuck right at that esophageal exit point.

Yesterday at the ER, they gave me a referral for a gastroscopy (you know, the kind that can be risky because of potential damage to the esophageal wall), and I've decided that if that food doesn't drop into my stomach by 6 PM tonight, I'm going in for the procedure—whatever happens, happens! 🤷

Back when I had a similar situation about 8 years ago, the doctor told me that nothing should stay stuck in the esophagus for more than three days; otherwise, inflammation starts and the wall could get damaged, etc., etc. Basically, he advised that any leftover food would have to be cleared out via gastroscopy.

Luckily, we didn't need the scope back then, but today I'll see what happens and decide from there.

If everything turns out fine, I'll catch you guys here—but if I head up to meet God (assuming it isn't way too expensive up there 😬), I'll see you "above"! 🙂

Btw, these "meds" are liquid, which some of you might have noticed, because they're actually meant to be used for injections, so they come in liquid form.
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
I’m definitely heading to the ER if things don't start looking up by tomorrow morning.

I just swung by the pharmacy and picked up some Papaverine and Metoclopramide capsules—they usually give them via IV, but these are pills—to help relax my esophageal muscles so maybe the food can actually pass through.

The ER is really my absolute last resort here, mostly because I went through something almost identical about eight years ago when a chunk of meat got stuck in my esophagus.
Back then at the hospital, they gave me something to drink to try and relax those muscles too, but when that didn't work, they were getting ready to pull the meat out using some kind of medical device (honestly, I can't remember the name). I even had to sign a waiver because the doctor warned me it wasn't exactly a walk in the park—he said if they accidentally punctured or damaged the esophageal wall during the procedure, it could be fatal.

Luckily, right before they could perform the procedure, that piece of meat somehow managed to slide down into my stomach—after being stuck in there for three whole days.
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
It’s still going...

Seriously though—does anyone know if there's any way I can just swallow this down or, like, throw it back up? 🙂

I really don't want to have to hit up the ER right now—I'll explain why in a bit—but I've gotta run somewhere urgently!
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
It’s just not working—I gave it my best shot...

I even tried sipping olive oil in tiny little sips, and then I tried taking bigger gulps, thinking maybe it would "grease the wheels" for that dry-as-a-bone roasted chicken—but nope, still no luck 🤷
Choking hazard: Food stuck in my throat in Health ·
So, I ate some boiled chicken without any broth, and now a piece is stuck in my esophagus.
It’s been sitting there for hours and I seriously can’t swallow it down.
I tried washing it down with some liquid a few times, but no luck—every time I try, I just end up throwing up the liquid instead.
It’s like this chicken hunk has formed an "impenetrable plug" in my throat...

I even tried drinking something and then forcing myself to throw everything up at once, but only the liquid comes out.

Does anyone know a way to force my esophagus to either swallow this leftover chicken or just let it go? —putting two fingers in my mouth didn't do the trick...

Going to the ER is my absolute last resort, which is why I’m asking you guys here first.

Btw, I totally get it—I’m greedy, I don't chew enough, I take massive bites, blah blah blah—so yeah, I’m looking for some solid advice on how to get this chicken out of my throat 🐔

Man, I’ve had like four "life-changing" near misses just like this...

Look, if there’s a deer crossing sign posted and you aren't running AC, just forget about getting any kind of payout from anyone. Seriously. Unless you have AC—and even then, only if your insurance company hasn't conveniently left wildlife out of your policy—you're basically on your own.

Honestly, just be glad you walked away unscathed! Not everyone gets that lucky, and some people... well, they don't make it out at all.
