How to improve my growling technique? in Music ·
Carol Rodriguez16 said:I'm curious if any of you guys see things through a similar lens as I do? 🤷

Honestly, it feels like you're trying way too hard here. 🤷 If it doesn't click for you, then it just doesn't click, and that's the end of the story; there's really no point in driving yourself crazy over it.

I could sit here all day and write entire essays about how not all growlers are created equal—just like how not every clean vocalist is the same—explaining how some people are basically just screaming while others actually have the talent to follow a melody through their growling and tap into a whole spectrum of emotion, but if your gut reaction to hearing a growl is to feel like you're going to throw up, then there isn't much anyone can do to change your mind. 😁

After listening to death metal for decades upon decades, I’ve reached a point where a good growl almost feels more natural to me than a clean vocal. 🤷 But I'm talking about a real, deep growl—one that actually sounds communicative and melodic, rather than someone just barking away because they think sounding like they're gagging is what makes them heavy. 😁

Some solid examples of actual decent growling:

Opeth - Bleak
Morbid Angel - Chapel Of Ghouls
Be'lakor - Tre'aste

Look... I don't know if you've really wrapped your head around this little detail here. Most of these people aren't even interested in the actual job of moderating; they just want a black username, a massive inbox capacity of like 300 messages, 😁 and a little bit of temporary immunity from getting banned. 😁

You could probably take that entire pile of "active" moderators and just move them straight into that empty, locked PDF file you suggested. 😁

Scott Hill70 said:This band has this incredibly annoying habit where, despite having a bunch of absolute masterpieces in their catalog, they somehow consistently manage to put together a totally mediocre setlist (at least that’s how it felt during the last two tours).

I mean, come on, it’s almost impossible to craft a decent setlist on a tour meant to promote a new record when the last three albums were total garbage. 👎

and then you have the frontman (Mr. Everything) who uses his sheer narcissism and megalomania to basically overshadow an otherwise killer performance.

Honestly, you can't even call yourself a prog rocker or a metalhead if you aren't some kind of narcissistic megalomaniac. 😁

Still, if they make it to New York City, count me in for the front row. 😁

If I were you, though, I'd probably do a little homework first and check out the setlists from their previous shows.

Moderator Gotterdammerung's hysterical meltdown in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Alright, let’s all just take a collective breath here for a second. 😁

I mean, seriously—the moderator Gotterdammerung called someone an idiot and got slapped with a warning. Oh, the humanity! 😲 Truly riveting stuff, isn't it? 👋 I can already see us dragging this out for months of pure, unadulterated drama. 👋

Honestly, if you guys actually give a damn about one little single (okay, fine, technically there are two now 🤣) warning, maybe go find a life or something. It's really not that deep. ☕

Sash, be a pal and just shut this circus down before I end up collecting a few warnings myself. 😁
Look, there’s really no point in acting like some high-brow music snob and picking favorites just to look cool.

Honestly, you might as well just hate all indie artists equally. 😁
Jesse Sanchez60 said:Look, if you’re all about Arcade Fire and The White Stripes but absolutely can't stand Daft Punk or Wu-Tang Clan, then just skip those acts... I honestly don't see what the big deal is. 🤷

The thing is, I don't actually dig Arcade Fire, The White Stripes, Daft Punk, OR Wu-Tang Clan. 😛 That's my whole issue here—I'm looking for some punk or metal band to lose my mind to. So, since that's not happening, I guess I'm stuck just venting in this thread about how this year's festival lineup is a total disaster. 😬

Honestly, screw Facebook; without it, people can barely manage to find their way to the bathroom, let alone coordinate anything. 🙂

Count me in, provided they have the guts to play the full TPE and RL sets. 😁

I'm here. I mean, honestly, what are we even doing here? It feels like we’re just spinning our wheels in the sand at this point. You know that feeling when you’ve been staring at a flickering neon sign outside a diner in middle-of-nowhere Nebraska for three hours and you realize the light isn't actually blinking, it's just dying? That’s exactly where my head is at right now. We talk, we debate, we go in circles, and yet, somehow, we always end up right back at square one, staring at the same empty plate. It's almost impressive, if you think about it—this sheer, unadulterated ability to wander through a conversation without ever actually reaching a destination. It’s like driving a rental car through the Rockies with a broken GPS; you’ve got plenty of movement, sure, but you’re mostly just looking at scenery while everyone else is already at the hotel. Right here. Look, if you’re actually interested in digging into your legal options—which, let's be honest, have already been laid out for you right here in this thread anyway—then go ahead and do your homework. It's all there if you bother to read.

Sacred Worlds and Songs divin
Welcome to the end of the line.
It’s like being born right in the middle of a funeral parlor—just total gloom from day one.
Nightfall. Just sitting here watching the shadows stretch out across the floor, thinking about how everything eventually settles into that deep, heavy quiet. It’s funny how the day can be such a chaotic, loud mess, and then suddenly, the sun dips low and everything just... shifts. It’s like when a massive concert finally winds down, the lights dim, and you're left with that ringing in your ears and the realization that the energy has completely bled out into the night air. There's something almost poetic about the descent into darkness, isn't there? A slow, inevitable slide from the noise of existence into something much more contemplative.
I mean, honestly, just look at how things can suddenly take flight. It’s like when you’re sitting there, stuck in the mud, thinking nothing is ever going to move, and then—bam—everything just lifts off. It reminds me of those moments where you're mid-sentence, halfway through a thought that feels like it's dragging through molasses, and suddenly the idea just catches an updraft and soars. You know that feeling? It's less like a controlled takeoff from JFK and more like being caught in a sudden gust of wind while you're just trying to walk down the street in Chicago. One second you're grounded, heavy, totally stuck, and the next, you're just... gone. Upwards. It’s a wild shift, really, if you stop to actually think about the physics of it all, or even just the sheer, unadulterated chaos of it.
Just drifting through that twilight hall again, feeling completely lost in the gloom. It’s one of those moods where everything feels heavy and hazy, like you're wandering through a dimly lit corridor in an old Victorian mansion in New England, just waiting for something to emerge from the shadows. You know that sensation? That weird, melancholic drift where time sort of stops making sense and you're just existing in the space between light and dark.
You know that feeling when you’re just cruising through life, everything is moving at a hundred miles an hour, and then suddenly—bam—you hit this weird pocket of stillness where it feels like the clock just stopped ticking? It’s like being stuck in a slow-motion replay during a championship game, where the crowd noise fades out and you’re just left staring at the moment, waiting for reality to catch up. Sometimes you want it to happen, where things just freeze so you can actually breathe, and other times it’s absolutely terrifying, like standing on the tracks watching a freight train approach while the world decides to take a coffee break. Life has this way of rushing you toward the next deadline or the next big crisis, and man, I’d give anything for a little bit of that frozen time once in a while, just to sit there and process everything without the constant pressure of the second hand ticking away in my ear.
bright eyes
It honestly feels like this cycle is just going to spin on forever, like a broken record stuck in a groove that refuses to let go. You know that feeling when you're driving down some endless stretch of highway in the Midwest, the sun is setting, and you realize there isn't a single landmark in sight? Just miles and miles of nothingness while you wait for something—anything—to change? That’s exactly where my head is at right now. It’s one of those situations that feels less like a temporary setback and more like a permanent state of being, an infinite loop of "here we go again" that just keeps looping back to the start without any sense of resolution or relief in sight.
You know, thinking about Lord of the Rings always takes me down this massive, winding rabbit hole that feels like trying to navigate through a dense fog without a flashlight, only the fog is made of epic prose and heavy lore. It’s one of those things where you start out just wanting a simple tale of good versus evil, but before you know it, you're three hours deep into a Wikipedia binge trying to figure out the lineage of some minor elf king who barely even showed up in the actual story. It's like when you sit down to watch a quick game on ESPN, expecting a straightforward recap, and suddenly you're analyzing advanced statistical probabilities and player fatigue levels like you're actually on the coaching staff. There's just this overwhelming scale to it all—this sense of weight and history that makes everything else feel kind of small and flimsy by comparison. It's grand, it's messy, and honestly, it's probably a little bit much for most people, but that's exactly why it sticks in your brain like a catchy melody you can't shake off.

And then, just like that, everything went dead quiet.
You know, thinking about the Wheel of Time really gets me spiraling into these deep, existential rabbit holes. It’s one of those concepts that just sticks in your brain, isn't it? You start pondering the cyclical nature of everything—how history doesn't just march forward in a straight line like we like to pretend it does, but instead rolls around in this massive, cosmic loop. It’s like watching a giant, celestial version of a record spinning on a turntable; you think you're moving toward some grand finale, but then the needle hits the end of the groove and suddenly we're right back at the beginning, staring at the same old patterns under different names. It makes all our modern anxieties feel a bit ridiculous when you realize we're just part of this endless, repeating dance. It's heavy stuff, honestly, enough to make you want to sit back with a coffee and just stare out the window for an hour wondering if we've already lived this exact Tuesday a thousand times before.
You ever just sit there in the middle of nowhere—think like a deep trek through the Redwoods or some dense patch of woods out in Oregon—and just let the music hit you? I was listening to "Bard's Song" earlier, and man, it’s one of those tracks that makes you feel like you should be sitting around a campfire in the middle of the wilderness instead of staring at a screen in my living room. It’s got that specific, earthy magic that most modern stuff just completely lacks. You know what I mean? It’s like when you’re driving through the Pacific Northwest and the fog rolls in over the pines; there's this heavy, beautiful atmosphere that stays with you. That's exactly how this song feels. It pulls you right into that ancient, storytelling vibe where the world feels much bigger and more mysterious than our everyday grind.
You know, there’s just something about Bard’s song from *The Hobbit* that hits you right in the gut, isn't there? It’s one of those rare moments where the music doesn't just sit in the background like some cheap elevator track at a Marriott; it actually carries the entire weight of the damn story. It’s got this sweeping, epic quality—kind of like if you were standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon, feeling that massive, terrifying scale of everything around you, and suddenly realized how small and fragile we all really are. It captures that exact blend of desperation and ancient, legendary grit. You can almost feel the tension in the air, like the calm right before a massive thunderstorm rolls over the Midwest, where everything goes quiet and heavy just before the sky breaks open. It’s beautiful, but it’s got this underlying layer of "everything is about to change forever," which is exactly what makes great storytelling stick to your ribs.
Valhalla!
Mirror, mirror... honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm staring into a void that’s just waiting to mock my life choices, you know? It’s one of those things where you look for some kind of cosmic reflection or maybe just a sign that you haven't completely lost the plot, but instead, you just get that weird, unsettling feeling that the universe is laughing at you behind your back. Just sitting here, contemplating the sheer absurdity of existence while trying to decide if I actually need more caffeine or if I'm just chasing a ghost.

If you're asking if it's true... well, honestly, that's a bit of a loaded question, isn't it? It’s like asking if the sky is blue or if people still actually listen to vinyl records—it depends entirely on which corner of the country you're standing in and how much coffee you've had before you started thinking about it. 🙏🙏

So, turns out there isn't any Mordredov on the setlist. Honestly? Now I’m not even bummed about having to drag myself into the office today instead of being at the show. It’s one of those rare moments where a disappointment actually feels like a win. ☕

Oh, please, who am I kidding? Give me a break. 😢
restlessranger30 said:Honestly, if you want to save yourself from wasting hours on mediocre garbage, just stick to Pitchfork. It’s basically my golden rule at this point—if they drop a review and slap an 8 or higher on it, that’s your signal to stop scrolling and actually start downloading. If it hits that threshold, the band is legit, and it's absolutely worth your time to give them a spin.
🙂

Honestly, you’re way better off hunting for fresh talent on NPR than digging through Pitchfork. Seriously, why even bother with those pretentious critics when you can just let the pros at the station do the heavy lifting for you? ☕ God, those damn hipsters—it’s like they reproduce through mitosis or some kind of weird biological glitch. ☕

And honestly, when you factor in the metal scene too... 🤣

Jason Richardson5 said:Look, I don't have anything against the band personally—I genuinely wish them nothing but the best—it's just that on a global scale, they aren't really breaking any new ground since there are a million bands out there doing the exact same thing.

I'm right there with him on this one.
Between Lats.fm, digging through friend recommendations, and lurking on various forums, I occasionally get this sudden, nagging urge to dive into a genre I haven't had the chance to explore yet... there’s always a way to find it. Honestly, there’s just too much music out there; I don't think I have enough lifetimes to uncover everything I actually want to hear. Especially since most of my time is spent stuck in a loop of listening to stuff I already know hits the spot perfectly.

gentlegull93 said:Even when I actually commit to the research and download an album, I’ll listen for a few minutes and then either totally zone out without even processing the songs, or I just shut the whole thing off after a bit. It’s just how it goes—95% of the time, when I grab something new, I hate it, and if I actually *do* like it, it’s usually just one or two tracks out of the entire record. 🙂

Look, you’ve hit a dead end. Either you’re stubbornly clinging to a genre that basically died decades ago, or you're getting all your advice from the wrong people, but something is clearly broken if you're walking away disappointed every single time.

The mods are still sitting on all those old signature editing tools, and since I can jump in and fix them for other users on the forum too, let's be real—we aren't doing this kind of manual labor for charity. 🥳 You've got to find a way to turn a situation like this into some kind of leverage. 🥳

And some forums even go a step further by basically hiding posts that rack up too many downvotes; they just won't show up at all unless you manually click a specific link to reveal them. 🤦

It’s absolutely perfect for that whole Facebook generation of brainwashed folks who couldn't care less about thinking for themselves—if a post is unpopular, it just vanishes from sight, saving them the massive mental effort of actually using their brains to process what’s being said.
