Anyone else a fan of parodies? in Movies ·
Raymond Palmer8 said:Hard pass—absolutely not.
I honestly feel like anyone can rip off an existing idea—it’s actually pretty easy to do.
It's way harder, though, to make a movie successful enough that people actually recognize it when a parody shows up. To me, a parody is just the creator admitting they can't come up with anything original themselves. So, like someone else already said, I just can't stand parodies.

Look, it’s incredibly easy to churn out a trash parody that lacks any actual wit or soul—it's just mindless mockery for the sake of it. That’s exactly why the market is flooded with them. But hey, there are actually some decent ones out there 🙂

They’re claiming the FIA is actually looking into rumors that Nelson Piquet intentionally smashed into the barrier just to force a Safety car onto the track!

Good grief, these people have completely lost it 🙄

I think I finally have to face the cold, hard truth: there’s a real chance Kimi isn't going to pull off this championship defense 😢 😁

And honestly, this absolute disaster unfolding at Ferrari is getting harder to ignore by the day; if they keep messing up like this, we might actually find ourselves spiraling all the way back to those dark days of the early '90s. 🙄

Rachel Sanchez11 said:Well, I'm glad you decided to bold that..
Because as you can see, I didn't actually jump to any conclusions or pass judgment here...
Maybe he really is just an old-timer clinging to childhood dreams...
But I was talking about the rest of his post...
And if you look at what he wrote, it’s pretty clear:

"So now, just when I'm finally mentally and physically ready to launch this idea that would totally revolutionize Reddit—I get hit with a slap in the face. And it comes in the form of the most random, incredibly basic response imaginable. It pissed me off so much that I basically killed him in my head, because he was clearly just the product of some rushed thoughts from a guy (me) who believed in ideas that were obviously wrong."

And man, that's just sad...
When you see how many people out there lack the drive to even try and make something happen, it's honestly ugly to crush the spirit of someone who actually has that spark...
If the will is there, even if the idea is flawed, if there's someone smart behind it, you can usually steer things in a positive direction in most cases...

Look, that’s exactly the point. You read this one post from him and you try to draw conclusions based solely on his words. Whether they're positive or negative doesn't even matter—it's all the info you've got. You have no clue what actually went down, you don't know if his version of events is even remotely accurate (for all we know, there was a totally different reason for everything and he's just being dramatic now), and you definitely don't have the full picture.

Just to be crystal clear: I’m not trying to litigate the specifics of his particular situation here (not that I'm allowed to 😛), but honestly, it was kind of hilarious that you used that exact example, because it perfectly illustrates why you can't just pass judgment based on a single open thread on an FBI forum.

That’s a classic scenario on these boards: someone drops a touching, super convincing post that gathers a massive crowd of supporters who then go on a blind crusade against the mods and admins, all without having the slightest idea what the actual situation was.

boldhound8, I honestly have no clue what the thought process was behind this post, or even where the disagreement lies...
But man, crushing someone's little dreams just because you can be incredibly petty...
Especially since he actually had a decent idea about making the forum easier to navigate.
It’s kind of a shame when a site builds up these illusions for people that it just can't actually fulfill...
And that whole sense of democracy, that feeling of playing fair—that used to actually mean something here. I remember days when that mattered a hell of a lot. Nowadays, people live under the delusion that it still exists. Maybe it's time we just come out and say it plainly: it doesn't.

And you actually hit on the real issue...
Look, you can't just walk all over a moderator who isn't getting paid, especially when you're turning a blind eye every time they mess up. You try to settle things with them in a small group, trying to convince them to stay in their role. Because, let's face it, someone has to clean up the massive pile of crap in politics and general nonsense. If someone is moderating 500 posts a day for free and dealing with some random guy jumping around—I think his name was 😁—or banning some random person nobody cares about, they're just doing it. They'll show up, cause absolute chaos, get someone in deep trouble, and then take a permanent ban. Then, in the end, they just make a clone account that nobody recognizes, and that's that. Life goes on, the clone ends up being one of three hundred billion others, and in the background, things just keep moving like they always do...
Then someone shows up with a bright idea...
And gets shut down immediately.
Just because he mentioned paying moderators—you know, like raising funds so a few guys could grab some burgers and fries without having to dig into their own pockets...
Do you see the kind of vision the guy had?
But hey, nothing new on this forum...
There have been hundreds of attempts like this, and they all end up in the exact same way...
Some topics are basically eternal taboos, and if you even touch them, exile is pretty much guaranteed...

So how do we actually fix the problem with this thread?
I actually suggested a moderator council once upon a time, back when there was a plan to organize the political sections...
And they just laughed me out of the room back then...
If the moderators are discussing it now, I swear I am laughing my head off...
The hypocrisy is unreal...
(Not that they actually read my old post before starting this discussion, though)

There you go, a textbook example. And I mean a perfect one. It’s almost as if it couldn't be any more illustrative than this.

I've bolded the part that actually matters for you—take a second and really chew on that.

Honestly, I’m starting to think every single moderator jumping into this thread has completely lost their marbles, like they’ve got way too much time on their hands and just live for the thrill of tilting at windmills 😂

Wait, what am I even doing here? 😕 😁

darkseal15 said:Well, I'm throwing that "you have no clue" right back at you. Cheers.

Give me one single example of a resolved (justified) complaint against a moderator.

Fine, I'll give you a few examples of ones that were never resolved instead.

Look at , this isn't even a direct complaint against a mod, it's just a straight-up request to get a thread restored.

Now, go ahead—try to argue why this specific complaint is "pathetic" or "unfounded," or point out where exactly it was ever resolved.

Look, I could probably rattle off a dozen instances where a moderator or an admin catches their own mistake without anyone even bothering to file a formal complaint, and they just fix it quietly behind the scenes, but I’m not supposed to talk about that. And honestly, what I really can't show you are the mountain of deleted posts from those users who spend all day trolling and flooding the boards; we let them slide for an eternity, but the second they finally face any consequences, suddenly the moderator is being "too harsh" or "completely unreasonable."

People reading the FBI reports only see the tiny sliver of the "case" that actually makes it into the public eye, and then they jump straight to conclusions based on that tiny fragment.

It’s honestly pointless... if it makes you feel better to keep believing that moderators have absolutely nothing better to do than pick on poor forum users, then by all means, go right ahead.😉

darkseal15 said:I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be able to get this poll to actually work—I’ve never messed around with setting one up before.

If it fails, just go ahead and cast your vote in the comments.

Basically,
what is the actual point of this subforum?

If we set aside the threads used just for congratulating people on every little thing—we’re left with the core issue here, which is how certain threads are moderated.

I’ve been watching several topics where users have been complaining about moderation.

Some of them were total jokes, some complaints were completely baseless, and others were entirely justified.

So, when it comes to how people present their grievances, there’s a massive range of perspectives.

Where there isn't any variation, though—is in the admins' responses.
They seem to be totally uniform, and they all seem to lean toward doing absolutely nothing at all.
At most, they might ban some troublemaker who dared to call out a beloved moderator, and that’s about it.

Think about it: has a single complaint against a moderator ever actually resulted in any real consequences for them?
Have you ever noticed anything actually changing after you filed a complaint?

Not really, right?

The only moderator I’ve heard of being disciplined wasn't even someone the users were complaining about—quite the opposite, word is they were punished specifically because they actually took the users' side.

Look at the current Google scandal—that’s exactly what happens when "collegiality" is based on the principle of "protect and cover your buddy, even when he’s screwing up."

The exact same thing is happening on this forum—the bond between moderators and admins is placed above the rights of the users (and probably, by extension, above the interests of the owner, whose goal should logically be keeping the user base satisfied).

So, what is the purpose of this specific subforum?

I’ve noticed in a few places how the admins seem to amuse themselves by mocking the users who complain about their dear colleagues. (Mockery is pretty easy to pull off when you know the solution is entirely within your control, yet you have zero intention of fixing anything, while some poor idiot keeps asking you for help, not realizing they're wasting their breath.)

Therefore,
I am opening this thread to invite everyone to vote on whether we should scrap this thread, which exists solely to mock the community.
At the same time, having this thread will serve as a warning to new or uninformed users so they don't embarrass themselves by coming here looking for solutions that aren't coming.

Anyway (if I can't get the poll to work),

Are you in favor of shutting down this thread?

a) Yes (I am a regular user)
b) No (I am a regular user)
c) Yes (I am a moderator or admin)
d) No (I am a moderator or admin)

I’m separating the moderators from the general public in this poll just to make it crystal clear whose interests are being served here.

You have no idea what you're even talking about.☕ Moderators make mistakes—they often admit to them, too—and the admins step in to fix things. A lot of those pathetic complaints from trolls sent to the FBI usually don't even tell half the story, so it becomes easy to just assume the poor forum user is right and the admins and moderators are the villains in this whole saga.

This forum serves its purpose, and there's really no need to tear it down.☕

The NASCAR stewards were basically eating their hearts out because of how Kimi lost it.
I mean, if they had just stepped up and handed Lewis his penalty right then and there, Kimi could've cruised through to the finish line and taken a victory he actually earned.

Come on, let's not get carried away here. There wasn't even enough time to react that quickly, and honestly, neither NASCAR nor Hamilton pushed Kimi off the track—he pretty much just drove himself right into it.

Just when you think you've seen every kind of predator out there, they throw another cheetah at you, don't they? It’s like that one guy at a dive bar who keeps telling the same story about his glory days, only this time, it's a whole different animal. Honestly, I feel like we're just collecting them at this point, stacking them up like old newspapers in a garage, waiting for the moment someone realizes we've got an entire zoo's worth of chaos sitting right under our noses. kaže:
So, get this—Lewis Hamilton just got slapped with a massive 25-second penalty, which basically nuked his chances and sent him tumbling all the way down to third place. It’s honestly wild how fast things can flip, isn't it? One minute you think you've got it in the bag, and the next, you're watching someone else celebrate on the podium. In this case, Felipe Massa swoops in and snatches the win right out from under him. It’s like being halfway through a perfect steak dinner only to have the waiter tell you they accidentally served you the wrong order and now you're stuck with side salad instead. Just total chaos.

Does it even make sense? Honestly, I’m sitting here staring at this and wondering if we're all just collectively losing our minds. Like, does any of this actually hold water, or are we just spinning our wheels in the mud for the sake of it? It’s like trying to find logic in a chaotic game of pickup football in a torrential downpour—you know deep down there's no rhyme or reason to the chaos, yet here we are, still trying to make sense of the madness. Sometimes you just have to step back and ask yourself if the whole thing is worth the headache. ☕

Just look at the math there—compare how much time he gained by cutting those corners versus how much space he actually gave up to Kimi Räikkönen...

Kimi Räikkönen 😢 But honestly, who cares? Last season looked even more like a total disaster, so we just gotta keep moving 😉

Lewis Hamilton 👎:asshole: He’s a solid driver, sure, but he really blew it. There was absolutely no way he should’ve blocked Kimi Räikkönen like that; if he had actually nailed that turn properly, he would've been left in the dust.

Jerry Martin19 said:Haven't seen this happen much lately, but that monster is still lurking around and pops up on the forum more often than you'd think. What's the actual issue here? People show up to an online community for all sorts of reasons: to connect with people, grab some info, debate stuff, or just hang out and chill... and I think every single one of those motivations deserves equal respect, no exceptions. So, if someone types "change" with a typo, is it really necessary for some pedantic nerd to jump down their throat and lecture them about grammar, or hit them with some "you illiterate hillbilly" insult?

I say we penalize these little grammar police and busybodies who clearly have nothing better to do than find fulfillment in these nerdy trivialities. 🙂
