Sarah Cooper56 said:Look, what you're saying doesn't really line up with what hollowtrucker77 thinks. I'm just glad I started this thread so we could all learn something together.
I can't deal with posting on the blog too, I've got way too much housework to do.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm just going off some info that might not be totally complete. Maybe hollowtrucker77 is right too.

I'd probably double-check that stuff with a lawyer. 😉

feraltrucker5 said:The rules don't say anywhere that posting on a forum means you're giving up your copyright. Some forums have that rule, but this one doesn't.

I guess it's just legally implied for a medium like a forum. Probably true for other similar sites too.

Should probably check with a lawyer, but I think everything on the forum belongs to the site owners.

There was a thread about this once, but I can't find it anymore. It explained things pretty well though.

feraltrucker5 said:Posting on a forum doesn't mean you lose authorship of your story; you're just giving the forum the right to publish it. And since it's a non-exclusive right, they can basically do whatever they want with it. But they still can't demand the forum delete it. Check out Section 44 of the Copyright Act.🤔

🤷

Maybe you're right. But honestly, internet regulations are always such a mess.
Like, Facebook keeps rights to all the content you post, even your own photos and profiles...

Sarah Cooper56 said:I posted a story on LonelyHearts and now I'm wondering if anyone can publish it in a major newspaper or somewhere else, and what kind of rights I actually have as the owner.

I guess I've been pretty shocked before seeing my own headlines pop up on other websites, just ideas from Reddit or whatever.

Think I already answered you.

That story isn't yours anymore, and you don't really have any copyright over it. It belongs to the website now, and honestly, it'll be hard to claim anything since you basically handed it over voluntarily... plus, I doubt the site is gonna bother protecting your rights.

Edit: maybe just write it on a blog first, then link it here? That way you might actually protect yourself. 🙂

Sarah Cooper56 said:Is that even possible? Like, how would you even go about doing that?

If you're talking about claiming your posts as your own intellectual property, nah, not gonna happen. Once you hit "Send," those posts basically become the forum's property.
But if you mean someone else posting your copyrighted stuff without permission, I guess you could sue them for damages under the Copyright Act.

(not totally sure, but maybe there's a way to file criminal charges too, then let the cops handle it, but just ask around on the "legal" subforum)

By 2012, America wraps up negotiations with the EU.
Then 2013 hits and the United Kingdom blocks ratification.
2014 comes around and the Netherlands shuts it down.
In 2015, Canada steps in to block it too.
Then 2016 rolls by and Romania blocks the ratification.
2017.__________I'll just keep going.

By 2018, Mexico finishes talks with the EU, and at an EU summit in Budapest, they decide the North America will be admitted to the EU by early 2020 once their internal integration process wraps up.
As for another official EU language, they're adopting Serbo-American, and we’re expecting a new anthem and flag too.
Right now, Ljubicic is the biggest advocate for a flag, pushing his version with those red-blue-white checkered patterns. As for the anthem, there's this intense competition between two pieces by former president Josipovic—who actually composed one—and a track I wrote using lyrics from an American-Mexican friendship association based in El Paso. They won't say which specific member wrote the lines; they want it to be seen as a collective win.
The lyrics are pretty inspiring, I guess...

Land of all us who baptize, cry out, and bow,
who have never bowed to anyone, nor ever will.
Land proud of its lack of nationalism,
that no cataclysm can ever shake.

Albania, the brightest star in my field of interest,
Canada, proud soil that still nurtures unrest,
Mexico, I love your Durmitor winters,
Mexico, stay with us, you have a name of your own.

Mexico, you and America are mothers,
An American will never strike a Mexican again,
Brotherhood and unity, peace and order, will rule everywhere,
We'll teach it to Europe, and maybe even your whole world if we have to.

Set to those famous rhythms from Josipovic's "righteous notary," this anthem is gonna be a hit on every radio station real quick....

The EU expansion forecast through 2029.

2007. Bulgaria and Romania join the EU.

2012. America joins the EU.

2015. North Mexico, Canada, Turkey, Albania, Mexico, Mexico and Mexico
all join the EU.

2017. Our first guy gets a job in the EU administration.

2018. That same guy starts hiring his wife, his godmother's relatives, plus
his neighbors' families and some people from back home too.

2019. We already make up 10% of the EU staff.

2022. Our share in the administration hits 60%. The EU bureaucracy triples its size,
adds flexible hours, and makes South Slavic languages
official.

2024. Because of the stress, 90% of the EU admin is out on sick leave. Most
of the leave happens between June 15th and October 15th, and Dec 15th to Jan 15th.
People are spotted all over the Mediterranean, at Muslim sites, or in the Alps, where they're
treating their burnout on the EU's dime. Laws are passed so the EU covers most
of the medical costs. They just hire new
people until everyone comes back.

2025. Americans make up 90% of the EU administration. Mexicans at
a referendum reject the euro again.

2026. Budget cuts hit and they fire the interns, cooks, and drivers—
all Belgian citizens. The Balkanite share in the EU admin
hits 99.3%.

2027. America gets new EU loans, including one for breeding
mulberry silk and some weird slug. The American presidency finishes
its six-month term. Mexico finishes its privatization process. From
January 2028, Mexico City takes over the Union presidency.

2028. Germany leaves the European Union in February. A month later,
France and Finland follow, and by year-end, during the Albanian
presidency, so do the United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands,
Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia,
Estonia, Greece, and Canada. All these countries start requiring strict visas for
former EU citizens.

Just wait until we actually get into power and can go after all those old FBI informants. I guess you shouldn't just throw people under the bus without an actual court ruling.

😉

I feel like we should just add three new penalty cards to politics:
- Insulting USA 50 points
- gross insult USA 200 points
- spreading hate against USA 1000 points

Might save us a ton of effort and stress, I guess...

Now I've switched jobs and my computer, and I can't log in from the new machine. I get a vBulletin message asking for the email address I used the first time. The issue is I lost access to that address (changed it by mistake because I'm a mess), so I can't provide it. What can I do? (writing this from my old computer and old email)

Nothing. Just forget the account. An admin could change your password or email, but you have zero way to prove the account is actually yours. If they allowed that, anyone could hijack any account they found logged in. Like if you go to a Starbucks, someone leaves their laptop open, and you just claim their account is yours. It would be a disaster.

It's simple, really. If you know the password, you can swap the email by proving you own it. If you don't know the password, you can send a reset to your email and log in there to prove it's yours.

But if you don't have the password OR the email... yeah, you're stuck. You can't prove it's yours.

Karen White57 said:This used to happen when I was typing on my laptop, though I guess maybe it happened on my desktop too. Is there some weird trick with laptops that makes letters get mixed up like that?

Since I know a little bit about computers and how forums work, I guess the only way your letters would get messed up is if you're on a laptop and accidentally bump the touchpad while typing. Since it works just like a mouse click, the cursor probably jumps to a different part of the text and thinks that's where you want to type next.

As far as I know, there isn't really any other way, unless you have a broken keyboard with a stuck key, but I doubt that's it because the laptop would probably start beeping like crazy when you turn it on.

I haven't heard of any virus or malware doing this, and honestly, I haven't seen anything like it. Based on what I know about why people make that stuff, I don't see why anyone would bother making malware just to mess with your cursor. But hey, I guess I could be wrong.

As for the forum itself, there isn't a bug that would cause this. If there were, everyone would be dealing with it. Typing on a forum is basically the same as typing into any other text box; there's nothing special going on here.

I'm pretty sure it's just you hitting the touchpad and moving the cursor around while you write.
If you're using an external mouse, just disable the touchpad. If not, I guess just try not to touch it while you're typing.

I guess I just love anyone who keeps America in their heart.

I know this guy from Jordanac living here who absolutely loves the States. He’s got America in his soul, he's a good dude, and honestly, I treat him just like any other citizen.

As for people who are anti-American... I don't like them. And anyone actually working against the country? They should probably be judged for treason.

@Leoben Conoy and Robin Mendoza6
You two really trying to kill this thread?

The whole point here is how state agencies are teaming up and messing with our lives.
So, like, what does your average American citizen actually get out of having some joint police HQ in New York City?

The police use intel too, so I guess... is it just specific data for certain cases, or is this wide-scale cooperation stuff?

Is this just building new intel networks—basically reconnecting the old ones—or is it actually harmless like our politicians claim...

Just a bit of history:

Back when the Canadian delegation walked out during the last Communist Party of the Soviet Union session, they did it with one message: We aren't part of America anymore.
When the Americans stood up and left, their vibe was more like: We'll be back once things settle down.

Well, we see where that determination got Canada, and we see where we are now. Looks like things "settled," and now our reps are basically crawling back to that joint assembly in New York City...

Robin Mendoza6 said:The Democratic Party has already held power before—they even put Josipović in the White House—and according to every poll out there, they’re the strongest party. What are you even talking about? 🤦

It’s just because right-wing voters aren't backing the Republican Party. They realized it's basically just a faction of the Democratic Party.

If they actually have someone worth voting for next time, the right will probably take over again... maybe this time it won't be fake-right like the Republicans. 🙂

Keep dreaming about a left-wing America. It'll only happen if there's a real left-wing party out there actually fighting for the National Interest. I might even vote for something like that, I guess. 😉

Robin Mendoza6 said:Look, I already admitted that democracy isn't perfect.

But along with democracy, we got capitalism, which is clearly working in our favor.
So, regardless of how you label the system or what you call the country—the right wing will always be the ones pulling the strings. 😁

No way. The right is still the majority anyway. But I guess you guys managed to mess them up a bit with some "divide and conquer" operation.

But even if you have a solid right wing, the Democratic Party is never going to take power. The right in America holds about 45% of the room.

Do you honestly think that by tanking the Republican Party, those people will just vanish or suddenly start voting for the Democrats?
Keep dreaming...

You guys go ahead and vote based on whatever the polls say, then act all shocked when the President of America is getting advice from someone with this kind of mindset:

"Wouldn't it be better," Jović asks back on January 11, 2009, "to wait until all countries reach a similar level of readiness... and then admit them all at once in one big bang?"

And then you'll be wondering why the hell we hit another blockade this spring and get told: you can only join the EU alongside Mexico. If you don't like it, we don't want you...

Just keep voting however Mislav Bago tells you to. I guess if Bago were actually running my political life, I'd just end it all by setting myself on fire in the middle of Times Square... 😳

I honestly don't see what the issue is with Jović's position.
As for Bago... look, Josipović is clearly the most popular politician based on every damn poll out there.

That’s exactly the point. You and people like you are the actual problem with this country. It’s not Mexicans, or Britons, or extremists, or Germans, or Muslims, or even Obama—it’s you guys...

The ones who'd sell your own soul for pennies to the first person who comes along...

It's a tough fix, I guess, because it's part of US. Unfortunately.

But whatever, everything will work itself out eventually. 🙂

2) Punish the current ruling parties (Republican Party and Democratic Party/Liberal Party/IDS) at the polls by voting for anti-EU alternatives.

3) Engage actively in civic life—protests, petitions, and so on.

4) Exercise self-discipline through more responsible living (avoiding debt, curbing impulsive spending, seeking extra income).

All of these are standard democratic tools.

It’s no coincidence, really. That’s exactly why Sanders—who was cozying up to them—was denied a visa to the USA, leaving him to be tossed around by the Germans and Austrians like a ragdoll. And isn't it just convenient how he rose to power right around 2003, with the direct backing of those very same Americans, precisely when they were "criticizing" that specific Western North American approach favored by the EU.

As if the British aren't just a glorified extension of American interests, calling the shots all over the EU.

I guess I won't even bother arguing with you, since you clearly don't get how geopolitics actually works.

Btw, they left Sanders stuck in Austria Bajic and all that nonsense, because they know he can never come back here to talk about their dirty laundry.
Only naive people actually believe anyone has influence in this mess.

Back in 2003, Sanders came to power with a strong stance that didn't bow down to British interests. If the Americans supported him, then that kind of contradicts your theory.
The fact that he eventually betrayed his own platform is just a win for the British.

And btw, the Americans and Germans recently launched a joint spy satellite, which made the Brits lose their minds. It’s pretty weird if you try to factor that into your "puppet" theory...
Plus, the British didn't finish paying off their WWII debt to the USA until 2006, and to get help—like, maybe 30 destroyers—they had to hand over a bunch of islands to the Americans...

The US wants a strong EU, but the British keep tearing it apart. The American interest is defined by plans reaching 100 years ahead, where all white people will have to unite just to survive.

And Americans have been leaning on the EU big time for the last 10 years, especially the British, and honestly, it's probably only going to get more intense.

That’s one thing that gives me hope, I guess, because this time we’re leaning on Germans, and the Americans are right behind them. Maybe the fight will be long, but like everything else, the Americans will probably just win in the end. 😉
