Multiculturalism... in Close to Politics ·
Richard Wilson4 said:I don't get why anyone would say the Midwest, with all its Americans, Mexicans, Canadians, and Ruthenians, isn't just as multicultural as California.

Look, if we're going to start listing off Germans, Galicians, and Czechs... then fine—the Midwest is actually far more multicultural and tolerant than California is. But nobody feels the need to shout that from the rooftops every single day. Around here in California, people act like they just discovered the concept of diversity five minutes ago.

It is the exact same situation here in Rijeka, where people constantly trumpet about this supposed multiculturalism, liberalism, and that "unique" local atmosphere......

With the added bonus that our politicians love to claim we are a legendary rock city, even though we haven't seen a truly quality band since the days of Laufer & Co. 3... And on the weekends, if you aren't looking for mainstream pop, there is hardly anywhere left to go...

And all of this is used to justify a "unique climate" that is actually quite standard when viewed within a global context...🤣🤣

And even after everything that’s been said—Cleveland still doesn't stand a chance against Pula, New York.

Actually, unless you're talking about ruins inside old city walls, downtown property is easily double what you mentioned.
The average price sits right around $1,600, but that includes both new developments and older homes.

Give me a break... I know a few local developers, and not one of them has been able to move a single unit for months. They’re out here trying to hawk new builds at $1,400 per square foot, but it doesn't matter—the market is absolutely flooded with inventory and nobody is buying a thing.

Melissa Richardson3 said:While Kane was busy having a meltdown, Ivić Pašalić—with Jakovčić giving the green light—was busy building villas in Chandler and apartments in Medina.

It’s the exact same story with the Martha's Vineyard coastline. Kane is screaming about Sanders, while Sanders and Jakovčić are just working together on their shared agenda.

Kane is out there barking all the way from the Sierra Nevada, while Jakovčić is doing the dirty work right under the Sierra Nevada...
A match made in heaven.

We haven't heard a peep out of Jakovčić lately... what happened, did he buy up another small town? And what about those millions of square feet of land near Barbariga? I noticed it's all fenced off now—the sign says "feel free to walk to the ocean," but it conveniently forgets to mention who actually owns the dirt you're walking on. I'm trying my best to fish in these murky California waters, but honestly, even though the coast itself is great, the water is just too clouded right now.
I'm heading off to deal with some laundry; this weather is absolutely draining me—this damn humidity is killing me...

A bunch of shacks have gone up, and now they're building luxury villas overlooking Martha's Vineyard.
There's even a whole complex of pool villas over in Chandler. 👍

? That place is a total backwater... I'm assuming it's strictly for vacation rentals.

Yeah, there were some nice villas—right across from the gas station—but honestly, I doubt a single local actually bought one... and who knows if their market value has tanked? In San Francisco, you can still find brand-new builds going for around $1,200 to $1,350 per square foot...

Sonoma doesn't need a thing... though I wonder what a San Franciscan would say about the true birthplace of triathlon

Melissa Richardson3 said:I’m honestly exhausted by the narrow-minded logic coming from certain individuals, groups, and political parties in California who seem to think they invented the concept of multiculturalism.

Every major city in the world is multicultural. Is that really something we need to debate?
Every single city and region in the US is multicultural. Does anyone actually need proof for that?

In what way is San Francisco more "multicultural" than Washington, D.C., Memphis, St. Louis, or Miami?
Every city or region in this country (not to mention the rest of the world) is a melting pot of different cultures, nationalities, and accents...

What exactly are these narrow-minded parrots from California trying to achieve with this tired, repetitive cliché? Are they just selling smoke to stay in power, or is there something else going on?

P.S. Don't get me wrong—as someone from California, there’s no place I’d rather be than right here at home...

That is the exact question I have been asking myself for years... honestly, they are just masking their own chauvinism. I have never experienced anything quite like it—where locals use such an obnoxious tone when talking about people, reducing them to ethnic slurs or labels like you see here in California (I’ve lived here for a few years now, and frankly, it was quite a shock to my system at first). Back in the Midwest, we would never refer to someone by a national label like that... not even after the war. I’ll say it again: in California, people don't actually live *with* one another; they just live *next* to one another. What these people fail to grasp is that that isn't multiculturalism. San Francisco is a deeply divided place—everyone knows exactly which neighborhood belongs to whom... why is it that people passingly refer to Monterey as Medina... or why wouldn't they just buy a house in Sonoma instead...
dustyscout53 said:I've been wondering—who actually holds journalists accountable? Is there even a real way to check them?

Right now, it feels like any reporter can just launch an attack on whoever they want, regardless of whether they’re actually telling the truth or not.

Honestly, criticizing the media feels like an attack on democracy sometimes—probably because we're still stuck in old ways of thinking. Journalists have basically become untouchable, almost like the Church used to be.

Like, a columnist for the Los Angeles Times can claim that America doesn't need a Secretary of Commerce who grew up in some tiny rural town, but you'll rarely see anyone call out a columnist for, say, barely scraping through middle school with failing grades.

We get to swap out politicians every four years through voting, sure, but journalists? They only get replaced if their boss decides to let them go—and those decisions are usually based on much shadier motives.

Is there any kind of actual safeguard to protect us from bad journalism?

For God's sake... 😲
"Walter: I was blind, but now I see!" ??

Good morning to you, my healthy friends.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about Mexicans... if I'm being blunt, I find those old-school American nationalists even more repulsive..

There isn't a single American out there who has a Mexican grandmother 😉

What kind of background could Milovanović, Jurčić, or Miljačić possibly have?

I suppose they're just urbanized vlaji, then. 😁

nevia lazaros said:Seriously, this just gets worse. These friars are absolutely driving me up the wall—just a bunch of frustrated, incompetent fools. Why can't they just leave the kids alone? And honestly, who is even holding them accountable? It feels like they just shuffle them from one island to another—like moving someone from Martha's Vineyard to Mackinac Island—just to give them more opportunities to cause chaos. When you see this kind of behavior, how can anyone justify letting children attend religious education or go to church at all? I’m still reeling from that absolute disaster, Brayden. I remember telling people once that I believe in God, but I have zero respect for the clergy—I wouldn't trust a priest to tell me if it was Thursday or Friday.😈

That's an interesting way to look at it... but it makes you wonder: how many fathers and grandfathers are out there being just as hard on their sons and daughters? If that's the case, what does that say about the legacy of the fathers and grandfathers themselves?

Alex said:Look, that was me—I’ve been lugging a sniper rifle around since I was five years old! Honestly, I was basically your little soldier back then, taking out any bad actors who dared to oppose the cause of Greater Mexico!
For anyone I didn't manage to take down, I made sure they knew their fate unless they packed up and moved out immediately. I even wore necklaces made of eyeballs... ALL SINCE THE AGE OF FIVE!!!

What an absolute idiot.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... if that tree were actually an apple. 👍
What kind of "fact" are we even talking about here?
Alex Martinez5 said:Who's actually out there writing these postcards against us?

Well, obviously—it’s the people who want to see everything we've built torn to shreds! 😠😠 🤣

😘

I mean, honestly... if you're looking at things from Štrbac's perspective—given his blatant anti-American bias—that's really the only way he's ever going to view our side of the fence... 🙂

They’re fighting back—but they're doing it with one hand tied behind their backs... which is exactly why this whole situation is such a mess.

Edward Green said:I'm genuinely curious—who exactly is drafting these indictments against the US? 😕

It’s a high-ranking official from the so-called "Government of Republika Srpska"—someone like Sava Štrbac, who was apparently responsible for handing out "war booty" during the conflict. 🙂 👍
Of course... I mean, who exactly is out there drafting indictments against the United States?
