Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I think everyone seems to be overlooking the fundamental reality here: a person finds themselves in this mess because they’re broke
and they're basically dancing on the edge of a total financial meltdown

And now, instead of cutting the cord, the plan is to tighten the noose, push them deeper into a hole, and demand they cough up $1,500 that they simply don't have

Do you honestly believe that's considered responsible or fair???

Survival follows its own set of rules, I suppose
and it’s easy to play the noble, politically correct, or morally superior card when you actually have a healthy savings account

Maybe they could just pay it back in small installments, without all these extra fees and interest hikes
if they don't sign anything immediately, they might at least have a chance to work something out with their bank
Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
It’s not even about whether he’s holding onto something that doesn't belong to him; that's not the point here.
He should just return those $1,500 before the bank comes after him with a garnishment order.
I suppose he could just issue a one-time authorization to wire the $1,500 back to the sender's account.

Besides, he didn't personally pocket anything to justify keeping it; it was all just due to circumstances beyond his control.

Just as a precaution in case this ends up in a legal dispute.

He shouldn't have to suffer because of someone else's screw-up. He needs to just bite the bullet and settle it, that's all.

Just one more thing I’d suggest:
- start keeping a chronological log of everything. Write down the order of events, who reached out to you, and exactly what was said—word for word if possible.
- after that, insist on handling all further correspondence in writing. For anything else, just be "unavailable."
The whole point is to maintain a paper trail of how things unfold, because let's face it, details get fuzzy and forgotten pretty fast.
- also, don't forget that every bank and teller window (especially where money changes hands) has security cameras. They can back up your story regarding how the staff behaved, and they can prove you didn't defraud anyone. Those recordings should be accessible for review during any legal dispute.

Closing the account might actually be a decent move. Of course, you’d need to go to a different branch, and only if the balance is sitting at zero. You could then open a new account and try to shift your existing obligations or debts over there.

Carol Long52 said:It’s a losing game, honestly—you might think you’ve come out ahead here, but in the long run, you’ll almost certainly lose far more than what you managed to "earn" today. Life has a funny way of balancing the scales, and believe me, I’ve seen it happen more times than I care to count.

well, it sounds like you were making mistakes too if that's how you felt...

author@: you didn't steal anything from anyone
it’s all just a mess of circumstances, but you aren't obligated to suffer the consequences of someone else's blunder
and nobody is going to judge you or blame you for looking out for yourself
the responsibility for the screw-ups should fall on whoever actually made them

don't sign anything

The bank is taking my entire paycheck... in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Here’s how someone ends up living on nothing while still collecting a veteran's pension:

It basically boils down to poor money management and having all the wrong priorities.

– My biggest worry right now is the dampness in the house; I'm terrified for my kids' health. We can't even cover the heating bill at the moment because the cash just isn't there. After what Timothy was getting from his pension, we were left with about $300 because the rest was swallowed up by our own bills and those loans he had co-signed for. – explains Slobodanka Purda regarding the situation her family is facing.

Go ahead and read through the (sensible) comments.

Come on, let me know how it goes once you're done
I’ve actually never pulled the trigger on installing Windows myself, so I’m genuinely curious about the experience
Who knows, maybe one day I'll finally find the nerve to try it

Now, quit stalling and drop the links to every single listing you’ve posted on the classified sites. I want to see as many as possible. Here is why: Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are indexed heavily by Google, so posting everywhere actually boosts your visibility. A cheap price isn't enough to win here. If you bother to read the discussions on local forums, you'll realize most real estate agents are completely useless. Stop relying on them and take control of the situation yourself...
Get those ads on as many platforms as you can, then paste the links right here. Put some actual effort into this—it is incredibly important for your success!

Good grief!
It didn't even cross my mind. 😉
Applying for a loan while living abroad in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Jonathan Ward59 said:I ended up taking out a loan abroad at a 7% rate
since I've been staying on top of my payments, they dropped it to 6.35%
and they even mentioned it’ll go down again eventually
if things get tight, it's way easier to negotiate with them than with our local banks
they don't start breathing down your neck with notices the second you miss a beat—they actually show some common sense
either way, it's better dealing with people overseas than with the crooks we have here

Since you're basically the only one here with actual hands-on experience, could you maybe clarify a few things:
Which country was it?
Which bank did you use?
What was the term length?
What currency were we talking about?
What kind of collateral did you provide?

And what did the whole application process look like—what did you actually need to qualify?
Applying for a loan while living abroad in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Interest rates for non-residents tend to be higher most of the time
unless you're looking at a standard savings deposit
(in which case they're usually lower 😬)

Eric Rodriguez31 said:Of course the ratio is terrible when it comes to mortgages. The main difference should be how those so-called agents handle their commissions—which aren't exactly small—to make everything run smoother and more efficiently. Plus, property appraisals ought to be faster and more accurate. Around here, the ratio is typically around 1:2.5 or higher; even JPMorgan Chase pushes it past 1:3. What that actually means is if you have a home valued at $150,000 and you're looking for a mortgage of up to $50,000, you still have to jump through a thousand hoops regarding creditworthiness. We're talking salary verification, employment stability, the company's credit rating, life insurance policies, and all that other nonsense. Just think about it. Sure, even with these foreign loans, they still require paperwork and payment guarantees, but the whole process is supposed to be simpler and quicker. Everyone knows that in this country, you practically have to beg just to get the money you're legally entitled to, yet the moment they need to pay you out, they suddenly become incredibly efficient.
What I’m really wondering is whether these overseas loans being advertised online are actually legitimate, and if these agents or agencies are real people or just scammers. Basically, does this stuff actually work? Right now, I'm trying to find someone who has actually used one of these loans because, in a deal like this, finding someone you can actually trust is the hardest part.
Since everyone needs cash and these ads are all over the classifieds, it honestly baffles me that nobody is asking about this.

Why don't you just reach out to the Austrian Central Bank directly to verify if they’re actually an authorized representative?
If they are, they’ll give you a straight answer.
If they aren't, but such a loan is actually feasible, maybe they'll offer you a direct way to get it done.
It would be pretty bad if they ended up pointing you toward the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond instead.😁
Why do some people need so much money? in Psychology ·

"Every single day, you open the papers and see more scandals involving millions of dollars in fraud. It seems people will go to any lengths to get rich—stealing, killing, cheating, just committing any kind of crime imaginable...

What's interesting is that almost all these dishonest schemes are pulled off by people who don't actually need the money to survive. We aren't talking about someone on the brink of starvation or someone who can't afford basic clothes and is struggling to stay alive. It's usually the middle class or the wealthy elite—people who have plenty, but simply never have enough. So much for that idea that greed is driven by necessity...

Sometimes these folks have so much wealth that three generations of their descendants couldn't spend it all, yet they still pull dirty stunts just to stack up even more.

There's something deeply tragic about money, isn't there? How it manages to ruin so many lives..."

opportunity makes the thief

The wealthy steal simply because they have the means. And honestly, it's pure greed, just like our colleague above pointed out. (I suppose it would be a bit of a stretch to generalize and say the poor are more honest than the rich or vice versa, so I'll leave that alone—just lying somewhere else, I guess.)

I think the real point is that being poor often means being deprived of more than just cash; it's social and systemic too. Poverty is essentially a lack of opportunity.

Maybe if they actually had the same opportunities, they’d steal just as much as the wealthy figures you mentioned.
But the reality is that it's quite difficult to even get into a position where you could steal on that kind of scale.
(Perhaps they might swipe something small within their own social circles, maybe.

What seems much more tragic to me, though, is that poor people and their children are deprived of much better kinds of "opportunities" than the ones involving theft: there's just too little access to quality education, culture, sports, healthcare, or any real chance for personal growth and development...

I guess I have every right (totally justified, really) to call you a liar!

You seriously don't know how to sit still, do you?
Do I really have to spell everything out for you?

Just Google "dead_cold,"
and the whole world will open up to you 🤣
a whole new world 😂

I mean, you're young, you're smart, and you're supposedly tech-savvy enough to know how things work these days 🙂
It's not like you don't realize you leave a digital footprint everywhere you go, right? 😉
And honestly, your own constant chatter is what pushed me to look into this in the first place
(I never would have even thought about someone moving if you hadn't been tossing all that info around)

Sandra Ward23, seriously, get a grip. This is an online forum, not your personal backyard.

Come on, please—let's try to look at this objectively.
If you're actually looking for an insult to quote, maybe just read what MH wrote.

Carol Hernandez94 said:I’d appreciate it if Sandra Ward23—who seems to think she’s running the whole show here—would stop trying to police my questions. If we actually needed an introduction, I could go on forever, I guess...

Look, you can't really tell me I'm not allowed to share my side of the story.
I mean, this is supposed to be a free platform, right? 😉
Quick question in Feedback & Suggestions ·
My colleague Carol Hernandez94 moved over to another forum along with a small group of other users,
which is perfectly fine by me (she’s got plenty of options out there)
It’s a free country, and people should be allowed to post wherever they want—the same goes for me.

But that isn't really the issue here.
The problem is that she keeps insulting the moderators, both within the diaspora sections of this site and over on that other forum.
And right here on this forum:
Carol Hernandez94 is just being defiant,
acting provocative,
and just being plain difficult.

I mean, honestly, if everything here is so terrible, why are you even staying?
Is anyone forcing you to be here?

Or is this all just a deliberate, calculated attempt at provocation? 😉
(And there’s a different way we handle that.)

In my private messages, she actually insulted a colleague (her rival) in the diaspora section; I've reported those posts to the admins, though they haven't been made public because they contain too much private info—those who need to know, know.

There are also screenshots from that other forum that clearly show who said what, when, and where, making her intentions obvious. Those have also been sent to the administrators along with the direct links.

After this whole saga, she's now posting destructive messages in the diaspora section of the main site (chat corner ii), which were orchestrated from that other forum.
It's undermining my thread (the posts were deleted, but can be restored if necessary).
And she's still looking for more trouble.
(Because, in my opinion, this is pure rudeness.)

I consider myself quite tolerant (and Carol Hernandez94 lucky) that I haven't handed out a ban yet.🥳

I'm getting pretty exhausted by this constant tug-of-war, and it's not even just about this latest trolling or provocation.
It's about the whole pattern of behavior.

I won't even get into the moral side of things: as a former moderator, I think Carol Hernandez94 is more than aware of what she's doing and how thin the line is that she's dancing on.
She probably deserves a much harsher response in that regard.

And she deserves a lot more than just having her posts deleted.

Thanks for listening.🙂

Here we go again. Lies. So, what exactly did you find out about me? Just go ahead and post it—tell everyone exactly how you managed to dig that up. Seriously, just put it out there.
The only thing that actually makes sense out of all this is that you've been reading the messages! Right?!

Wow, you’re being really strange, Tom.
It seems like all the forums these days are getting really aggressive with their online advertising, which I guess makes them much easier to stumble upon when you're searching for something.
What's he going to say? That search engines always turn up exactly what you're looking for? I guess people really do believe that if they type enough keywords into Google, the truth just magically appears on page one. It’s a bit naive, isn't it? Maybe. But honestly, it feels like we've all fallen for the illusion that more data equals better answers. I don't know. I suspect most people just take the first result they see and call it a day, never realizing how much of it is just curated noise.
So, basically: Google generates the data and you just get told what to think.

So, do you actually believe it now?
You spent so much time bragging about it yourself, so I don't really get why you're acting so surprised now.

PS, it’s actually pretty fair of you to admit that you've been using Microsoft to run ads for another forum.

Carol Hernandez94 said:I’m wondering if this qualifies as trolling, because it’s become a recurring thing over in the chat corner ii on the diaspora forums. I’d love to get an expert opinion from one of the admins on this.
....

I suppose you could call it trolling, since we're looking at a series of X posts, regardless of any warnings issued.
All of them were eventually wiped out, too—just cleaned right off the chat.

But before I get into that, I should probably provide a little context, just so everyone gets a better sense of what's actually going down...

shadowdrifter34 said:So, is it just a complete lie then—the one Queen Marica, using the handle Butterfly on that other forum, just dropped regarding my identity/username
over on that other site? My username is exactly the same there as it is here!
Over on that other forum, Queen Marica (under the name Butterfly) is accusing me of being a snitch—claiming I ratted out other members just to grab what she calls "what was hanging over my head" to make myself look more credible. She claims the proof is right there in the moderator section, where certain former moderators from the American diaspora community, specifically keya and angelini39, have been banned!

But that’s not actually a lie.
The only reason I ever found out about that other forum was because of you, MH (I mean, since you can't seem to keep your mouth shut, I eventually put two and two together. Sorry, girl, but that's just how it happened.)
If you hadn't been running your mouth and advertising that other place constantly, it wouldn't have even crossed my mind to go looking. I certainly wouldn't have stumbled upon the black-and-white evidence of how you all turn members against each other here.
Honestly, you guys brought this on yourselves.

I suppose the second part of my reasoning is a little embellished, but hey, forgive me—I got a bit carried away.😁

Why don't you just report me to a moderator over there instead?🤣
