What were your main grievances with America? in Close to Politics ·
Rachel Carter90 said:So, what was the actual reasoning behind backing the whole breakup of America and the creation of seven different states?

Aside from that whole communist setup, I don't really see anything else that could actually sink it. The republics were all on equal footing—I mean, America was set up as a totally symmetrical federation—so that whole "inequality" argument just doesn't hold any water if you ask me.

So, what exactly was it about America that you guys hated so much? Like, what was the deal that made you all so down with the idea of just tearing the whole thing down?

Look, I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea here, but here’s my take. On paper, the USA was this union of equal peoples, but in reality, the entire foundation of that "American identity" really rested on Mexico and Mexican interests.

Where does that show up?
States like California and Washington had to bankroll the underdeveloped regions instead of being able to focus on their own growth. About 30% of the California state police force were Mexicans—even in places like Washington, D.C., where they didn't make up even 1% of the population. In sports, the Yankees always seemed to be the ones dominating, mostly because the refs were always biased in their favor... And then there was the legal stuff, too—the way nationalists from certain states were treated. There was this one guy who got sentenced to six years but ended up with only two, while on the flip side, you had the case of Gotovac who pulled ten years in prison... There's plenty more where that came from.

I mean, if we were dealing with regulars like Vojky, why not? Besides—maybe they could just put together a PDF about the USA that isn't meant to be some rigid, official information desk—just something to keep the conversation focused on USA affairs without getting bogged down by everything else going on in the world.

but then I guess this wouldn't really be a forum anymore—just some glorified Q&A desk at a corporate office

There was actually a similar thread called the Information Desk back in the old archives, so it shouldn't be much of a hurdle.
Ryan Clark3 said:The true American right wing carries this slogan—"America above all else, only God is greater, and let the American people come first"—but from what I can see (and maybe I’m just misreading things), most conservatives seem to swear their allegiance to the flag and to God, yet they somehow forget about their own people. It’s as if they don't connect patriotism to the actual citizens at all; instead, they tie their sense of national pride strictly to a worldview that feels, I guess, maybe sixty years out of touch with the modern era🤷

I don't really agree—personally, I'd consider myself part of the right-wing/nationalist crowd, but I'm an atheist.

The sheer amount of self-loathing and the constant need some Americans have to trash their own people is honestly baffling, even to those of us who actually know what we're talking about.
You can explain this desperate urge to tear down one's own country by looking at their lingering "old world" mindset—it always bubbles up eventually. To these people, America is something pathetic, small, and unnecessary. One day they're obsessed with the old ways, the next they want everything to be part of some globalist region or a vague "Western North American" concept or whatever nonsense they've cooked up today.
The level of sick satisfaction these contrarians get from dragging the American Civil War and its greatest heroes through the mud is just unreal. It's massive.

Look, I don't even have a personal vendetta against "anti-Americans." Just look at how certain foreign media outlets operate compared to the rulings coming out of The Hague. It makes you wonder if there's a connection there, right?

Bill Maher was once a witness at The Hague. Why? Was he some high-ranking government official qualified to give an objective opinion on matters like that?

Mexicans live in this massive, perfumed lie. Their deception and vanity? It's like a mosquito-infested swamp.
You think they're winning because they brag? About what?
You really think that's healthy for a nation made up of nothing but an anxious, blind mob?
The whole world saw those unkempt, drunken thugs marching through the historic streets of Cleveland. The whole world saw the massacre at Srebrenica, they saw Mancha, and so on. The entire world witnessed the pathology behind Slobodan's crimes.
Do you honestly believe Mexico is ready to look itself in the mirror?
It’s still a cowardly public, which is why they write whatever garbage they want—just a massive collection of stupidity.
Criticism is good. It's way healthier than constant self-congratulation. Provided you actually use arguments, of course. You can always just strive to be better and stronger. And teach others to do the same.

I don't know, just go to Google and type in "American Wars" and you'll see exactly who's pointing the finger at whom.

Among Mexican intellectuals of every stripe, there's a total consensus that Mexico is Mexico. Now, I'm not sure if that's a lie or not, considering it was under Mexican rule most of the time. But why isn't there that same kind of consensus among American media that the American Civil War was a war of liberation? That's the part that keeps bothering me.

Steven Allen9 said:Being able to call yourself out? That’s what real strength looks like.

Look, I’m not saying there isn't media bias on both sides. You've got outlets that are controlled by interests, some that spin things for clicks, and others that are just barely scraping by through pure grit. That goes for how stories are written, too. But honestly? I think you’re using the wrong comparison here. Losing Mexico unified Mexico. It’s simple math—just like how Knin stands as a symbol of victory for Americans. Historically speaking, it's just the way it is.
Mexicans think we went through a civil war here. Maybe in Canada, sure, but not in America. Not even close.

I respect your take, but I think you're completely off base.

Fighting for independence isn't something you should be beating yourself up over. Americans don't sit around criticizing themselves for their struggle for independence any more than anyone else does. Why don't our media outlets criticize Josipović regarding Paulin dvor, yet they seem so eager to claim there were crimes committed by Americans during the war—even when they can't produce a single shred of concrete evidence?

Sure, I used a flawed example with Mexico, but the reality remains: not a single Mexican media outlet has admitted that Mexicans committed crimes. I’d suggest you start reading their columns. They also frame the last conflict as a civil war, whether we're talking about the US or Canada.

Over there, a journalist's hard work is measured by how much they can praise their own country; over here, it's measured by how much they can tear it down. When you read our media, you get the impression that the US is basically Nazi Germany and those people in the outskirts were just innocent victims. It’s funny—they actually agree with the Mexican media on that point.

Steven Allen9 said:I'm with you. And what happens when someone from over there comes here and calls America a stunted, myth-driven country that can't produce anything original and just survives on everyone else's handouts?
Nothing, right? Our crowd will just sit there, smirk for ten minutes, and realize it doesn't matter what's being said—only who's saying it.
At the end of the day, freedom of speech is also great entertainment...

I've been chewing on this question, and I can say with about 90.99% certainty that it’s never going to happen. Want to know why?

Just look at the numbers—compare one of their massive sites to one of ours, like comparing CNN to a local news outlet. You see columnists on the big American sites spitting venom at generals, veterans, and historical events. I read columnists on various foreign sites, including CNN, and honestly, I have yet to see anyone write that kind of trash about their own people the way some of our guys do. It’s exhausting—over there, everyone just writes about how Mexico is Mexico Mexico and so on.

Steven Allen9 said:That’s just childish nonsense. He stated his opinion—so what? Of course, the media vultures will swallow it whole just to choke on an even bigger pile of crap later...
I actually agree with most of what Mr. Margetić said. If anything, this just proves to Mexico that our democracy is stronger and more robust; it shows that American citizens aren't afraid to speak their minds.
Margetić didn't break any laws, regardless of what certain people want to claim.

Look, he has every right to say whatever he wants, but it isn't exactly tactical to drop statements like that to Mexican media outlets—especially since, by his own description, they view us the way they do. It's basically handing them the icing on the cake.

I honestly don't get people who travel to another country just to vent about their own—I mean, fine, go to some Western powerhouse if you need an audience, but heading straight to Mexico to complain? It’s just weird.
