Car Insurance: What are your experiences? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
So far, I’ve found the best rates here in the States, though I’m still waiting to hear back from GEICO and State Farm—they haven't even bothered to reply to my emails after a whole week, which is kind of annoying.
After those guys, I looked at Prudential with a $10 higher premium, and then Generali was also a bit more expensive at $17.
As for MetLife, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual, they just seemed way too pricey and honestly not worth the hassle.

Back home, I actually had the option to pay with a credit card and split it into ten interest-free installments without any extra fees, whereas most other places seem to hike the price up by at least 5% if you do that.
On top of that, they actually knocked $247 off the official quote for me.

I guess now I finally understand how it feels when a woman is being crowded by five different guys at once.😁

I guess everyone recognizes your bonus just the same.
You might as well just ask about discounts at both local spots and Eurozone and then just head wherever ends up being cheaper.

Maybe you could just reach out to them personally in the States to see if they'll give you a discount.
In my case, they actually offered me $190 an extra discount on top of the 15% bonus for a 63kW engine.
So, I guess it ended up being $50 cheaper than what I found at GEICO, even though they’re officially supposed to have the lowest rates.
And since you're a new driver, I don't think you can really get a bigger bonus anywhere else anyway.
Quick question about credit cards in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I guess you could actually get them without even having a job, as long as you're willing to put down a security deposit for each card equal to its credit limit. 🙂
But if you already have $5,000 or $10,000 $0.00 just sitting there in your bank account, I mean, what's the point of even getting a card? 🤷

No bank is going to put up with someone who can't manage their finances. I’ve been banking with Zábanka for years now and haven't run into a single issue. I had one minor hiccup once, but we worked it out through a simple conversation—they were actually incredibly polite and accommodating.

I stay on top of my bills religiously, so for me, Zábanka is gold standard. Their online banking, in particular, is lightyears ahead of the competition; compared to what they have in Miami, it feels like a spaceship.

Isn't it funny how the people who always have something bad to say about banks are usually the ones who couldn't meet their own obligations? They sign a contract, agree to the terms, fail to follow through, and then what? Expect the bank to just roll over and forgive them?

Care to enlighten us? Why is Zábanka the "worst" in your book? Because from where I’m sitting, they’re the best... at least based on my own experiences.

I’d love to hear the specific grievances you have against these "villains" that somehow make everyone else perfectly wonderful by comparison...

Well, for instance, they charge monthly maintenance fees regardless of how much you actually use the account.
I'm just curious why they'd charge a fee on an account where nobody even touched an ATM or went into a branch during the entire month?

And sure, everyone is polite—they're all super friendly right up until they need to trigger a legal seizure or start hitting you with those predatory fees and interest rates, and then they have the nerve to write in their terms and conditions that using their debit card for usury is prohibited.
Oh man, I swear I might actually die laughing! 😁
JP Morgan Chase - overdraft limits and fees in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
neongull12 said:Does anyone happen to know if I actually need to have a positive balance before I ask Wells Fargo to bump up my overdraft limit?? And if they actually say yes, do they charge some kind of monthly fee for it? I wonder how long the wait usually is...

Please let me know, this is kind of urgent!!! thanks

I don't think you need to be in the black.
I guess the main thing is just making sure you aren't already overdrawn and that you have a steady paycheck coming in.
Maybe you could borrow up to three times your salary, and then another two times that amount on a credit card.
You might be able to request an increase to your flexible package through their app if you use online banking.
I think you just click on your checking account and then select the option to change your flexible package.
It would probably get approved in maybe about two business days, or potentially even sooner.
There's usually a $13 one-time fee for the change, and I believe the interest on the overdraft is around 10.50% if you have the basic flexible account, or maybe 10% if you have the premium version.

By the way, there's a whole other thread about experiences with Bank of America, so you might want to check there next time since this is the JPMorgan Chase thread.
Dunkin' card issues: Payment not going through? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
steelskipper132 said:Why doesn't anyone just tell him straight? You guys are making this way more complicated than it needs to be.🤷
If he just pays off part of the bill, they might tack on a late fee from $10 on the next statement—though, I guess he should have received a notice about that by now anyway. On the next bill, there’ll just be an item labeled 'previous balance,' and honestly, they shouldn't even be charging interest on that.

It's a simple fix, and it's not like Diners Club is going under or anything.

Actually, this has been against the law for a few months now.
Banks aren't even allowed to charge fees for sending out notices or reminders anymore.
If they try to pull that, you could maybe just report them to the Federal Reserve and they should really refund those $10 to you.

I guess my contract says that the single purchase limit actually includes the cash withdrawal limit, while the credit card spending limit is handled separately.
At least, that's how it looks on my end.

I guess when you withdraw money from your savings account, they just transfer it right over to your checking, so you end up having that transaction activity on there, which I suppose covers that negative balance part.
After that, they shouldn't really be charging you any more monthly maintenance fees, maybe.

boldhound34 said:Do students have an approved overdraft on their current accounts at $333?
And what's the fee for a Wells Fargo overdraft?

I guess you might need a parent or guardian to sign off for an overdraft, and I think there's probably some kind of limit involved somewhere.$333.
Dealing with parental guilt: Am I "abandoning" them? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Rachel Rogers said:Let’s be real—parents definitely played a part in shifting that blame onto kids, rather than just blaming the modern era we're stuck in (if we're even living in one at all). It's a tough cycle to break, but honestly? Just remember that carrying that guilt doesn't actually get you anywhere.

I'm quoting this part specifically because there's a lot of wisdom here.
By any chance, if you happen to be from an older generation like me—one of those folks who grew up without much tech—have you ever read the book "don't turn on yourself, son"?

There’s something really profound about that idea where a parent sends their child out into the big wide world to find happiness and a better life, telling them to just let go of everything back home and focus entirely on their own future, right?

I feel like if you stay stuck in one place just because you feel guilty, you might end up facing something three hundred times worse later on, like a deep sense of anger or disappointment in yourself and what your life could have been if you hadn't made certain choices when you were younger.
I guess I'm just speaking from my own little bit of experience...
Thinking back to college, traveling, and just generally trying to live life to the fullest when I was younger.

neondriver5 said:Good grief, they're basically violating bank secrecy at this point. Honestly, they might as well just release a public manifesto listing everyone's account balances and how much cash they're sitting on...

They shouldn't have even mentioned the deposit amounts. They should have just kept it simple: "Based on your existing savings account at Wells Fargo, we are offering you a Lombard loan in the amount of z, with a repayment term of y."

Well, I guess that's what you'd call a trade secret, and maybe there's actually grounds for a lawsuit regarding privacy violations if they're being that specific!

The Federal Reserve banks offered me a quick personal loan once in a pretty similar way, but they didn't mention any details about how much money I actually had sitting in my accounts or anything like that. They just kind of suggested a loan up to $10,000 with certain interest rates and processing fees, then told me to stop by a branch with my ID and a pay stub if I was interested. It was pretty straightforward, I suppose.

I guess for most bills, if you manage to get that automatic payment request in by the 20th of the month, it probably won't even hit your account until the next billing cycle starts up the following month.
Car Insurance: What are your experiences? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Dennis Roberts6 said:True, but where can I actually find the best payouts? Just looking for some real-world feedback from policyholders...
I don't know anyone in the industry, and all those "under the table" deals usually end up being total garbage.

Oh, they definitely happen, you just have to be a little more proactive, I guess... 😁
Just head over to Euro Car Parts and ask for a discount face-to-face; you don't need to be the CEO's kid to get a break...
Trying to pull that off via email is kind of tricky since they won't really know who you are...
Maybe just tell them it's your first time insuring a car and you don't have a clean driving record yet, then see if they can work out a decent rate.
Last year, I managed to get a $83 discount on my policy of $900, even though I didn't know a single soul there and it was my first time using that insurance company. A guy working at one of their branches actually bought something from me on Craigslist and reached out through his official work email; I sent him a reply within 15 days and we worked everything out perfectly, he even mailed all the paperwork directly to my house!

You might want to check with the local guys in the USA too, because I heard they're getting pretty flexible lately since so many customers jumped ship to General Motors for better rates. But honestly, you really need to talk to someone in person—don't bother with emails... I'd say try emailing a few different places first, and if that doesn't work, maybe just go in and have a chat in person.

I went ahead and grabbed a Visa Classic prepaid card from Citigroup. It’s actually a full Visa Classic, not just a basic Visa debit card, which I think is a nice touch.
It works perfectly with PayPal, too—you can even receive funds directly onto it, or if you prefer, just top it up through online banking from any of your usual banks.
Plus, I guess you can withdraw cash for free whenever you need at Citigroup ATMs or even at some local service points.
It costs about $17 and it's good for three years.
And honestly, there aren't really any extra monthly maintenance fees or anything like that.
I know someone similar, a 22-year-old who barely speaks, struggles with speech, and seems to have some developmental delays too.
He lives at home with his parents, but I guess you have to wonder what happens when they're gone.
Some people can be pretty harsh, even saying maybe it would have been better if God had taken him at birth, just looking at how tough his life is.

As for your situation, it sounds really heartbreaking, and I'm honestly not sure what the right thing to say is.
If you're thinking about putting him in a care facility and just moving on with your life, I suppose that might feel wrong since he's your brother, right?
But then again, I totally get that you also deserve to have your own life and find some peace.

It’s such a heavy situation and a really difficult call to make, but maybe just remember that it isn't his fault he turned out this way, and he deserves a chance at life too.

Anyway, I'm definitely not judging you no matter what you decide to do.
And please, don't ever feel ashamed of him or how he acts; if some girl can't handle your reality, well, I guess she's better off finding her own path elsewhere.
I actually deal with some handicaps myself—nothing mental, just physical stuff that has held me back in certain ways—so I think I understand where you're coming from. Sometimes it feels easiest to just look away and try to find someone healthy who doesn't come with so many complications.
Maybe try getting a full checkup, I think at Bilicki it’s roughly around $100.
You could also check out the Eye Care Center; if you book ahead, maybe ask specifically for Dr. Lukenda since they tend to be a bit more budget-friendly.

A complete exam usually covers everything—checking the front part of the eye for your prescription, testing your intraocular pressure, and looking at the retina, though they'll probably have to dilate your pupils for that last bit.

If you're looking to keep your vision sharp, I guess taking some supplements with lutein and Vitamin C might help (like Maculin, but just make sure it actually has 20g of lutein instead of the 6g some brands offer), and you could always add some Omega-3s too; my ophthalmologist suggested both to me.

Best,

From what I gathered watching that video, it seems like they’re looking to bundle up and sell all their branches across the region at once.
I guess that might actually be the best move for us, if some massive bank just steps in, takes over everything, and keeps things running smoothly.
Though, I suppose we probably wouldn't see these same interest rates once a bigger player takes the reins.
It would likely end up being something similar to when Bank of America took over those operations.

Timothy Kim9 said:"So, I guess you think people's savings are safe?"

If you don't care about the possibility of getting your money back years later—with zero interest, mind you—
then yeah, they're perfectly safe.

I suppose we should have learned by now:
The Federal Reserve first puts out these incredibly soothing statements about how stable everything is, and then they go and drive
Credit Suisse and the Central Bank straight into bankruptcy.

And honestly, everyone eventually got their deposits back anyway, so I'm not really sure what the big deal is?

I guess I could always just head down to my local Chase branch and ask them.
Maybe, but honestly, dropping $600 all at once feels like a bit much for me right now, so I think I'll probably just stick to paying it off over three months instead.
