Kate Morgan66 said:Hey,

I'm currently going through chemo and radiation (it's hitting my pelvic area) and because of the radiation, I've been told to stay away from supplements (multivitamins, mushrooms, minerals) but you absolutely have to check with your oncologist first before trying anything...

Good luck!

Exactly..

Watch yourselves with those supplements.. food, herbal remedies, and pills can all mess with your meds.. obviously you gotta be extra careful when you're fighting cancer..
(For instance, there are over 85 different drugs that you can't touch if you've had grapefruit.. and it's not just about eating it right then; the interaction can still kick in up to 24 hours later)

There was this study called "the incidence of potential interactions between dietary supplements and prescription medications in cancer patients at a veterans administration hospital" which found that out of 200 patients, 121 of them—that's 61%—were taking some kind of supplement..
The big ones were multivitamins at 80.3%, minerals at 40.6%, and herbal stuff at 24.8%..

Out of those, 65 patients (54%) were juggling more than one supplement, yet only 28% actually had it noted down in their medical records..

And get this: 12% of those patients were facing a real risk of drug interactions!

Basically, for people dealing with cancer, the usual suspects for interactions are:
garlic, green tea, mistletoe, Chinese herbs, iron, St. John's Wort, ginger..

Seriously, talk to a pro before you start popping any supplements..
Lisa Perez37 said:My mom was 49 back when this started (she’s 63 now). She was only 108 lbs at 5'8", which is about 7 inches taller than your mom... should I even mention she looked just like Angelina Jolie? She stayed super thin her whole life—usually hovering around 125 lbs, except during pregnancy—but back then she was actually dealing with an acute ulcer and H. pylori. You guys should probably get that checked out too.

Exactly..
From saying that being 110 lbs at 5'0" isn't actually a crisis, all the way down to suggesting you check for ulcers and H. pylori..

hiddenmarlin14 said:Yeah, that happened just the other day. I didn't read your specific articles, but I saw the reports on Salzburg.com and Krone.at.

A 30-year-old Canadian man worked at a public restroom at the train station in Salzburg. He was always making new friends, which is how he met the two guys who killed him.
They showed up for a "visit," but on the way, they stopped at a gas station to pick up disposable gloves and heavy-duty duct tape.
After some brief conversation, they overpowered him, tied him up, and beat him because they wanted the PIN for his debit card.

One of the attackers admitted he started choking him until he died. Then they tossed the body in the tub and turned the water on. To cover their tracks, they dumped a ton of detergent and shampoo in there. Since the drain wasn't fully plugged, the water slowly drained away. When the police arrived, they found the body in the tub, but the water was gone.

The victim's father started panicking because he hadn't heard from his son in a while.

After the crime, the attackers trashed the apartment looking for anything else valuable. They stuffed trash bags with the victim's clothes, two cell phones, shoes, a razor, and a hair dryer.

The neighbors noticed something was up.

When the police hit the apartment, they found total chaos—piles of the victim's documents and mail everywhere—and tucked in that mess was an asylum seeker's ID belonging to one of the attackers (maybe it fell out or something).

The attackers actually wore the victim's clothes after the deed, which ended up being part of what helped the police nail them.

Once they were taken in, they confessed to the crime, but without showing a shred of remorse. "Everything's washed anyway," they just shrugged.

Right now, they're sitting in the Puch-Urstein jail.

Article from Krone.at

edit: I forgot to mention, both of them had been flagged by the police before for petty theft and small fights, but they hadn't been detained yet. One of them had already been granted asylum, from what I gather, which is why he had the ID.

What a nightmare. Honestly, gives me the chills...

Right now, they've got them locked up in Puch-Urstein.

Article from the New York Post

edit: Forgot to mention, the cops had both of them on their radar way before this for petty theft and some small scuffles, but they hadn't actually picked them up until now. From what I gathered, one of them already has asylum status, which explains why he was carrying an ID card.

So, what's the play here? Are they getting deported or what?

hiddenmarlin14, what’s the deal with that murder involving the Mexican guy and those asylum seekers? Anyone got more intel?

They knocked on his door, he actually opened up, and that was it. Dead. They found him in the bathtub, and get this—one of the killers dropped an asylum seeker ID card at the scene..

Imgur is finally back online 👋 🙂

I posted a photo on the forum yesterday and it actually worked..
Alexander Ortiz3 said:The article claims there were about 300 people, but looking at these close-up shots and considering how massive that space actually is, it’s clearly nowhere near full. If I had to guess, I'd say there were maybe 50 or 60 people there at most. And that's being generous.
Protest:

And just like that, Emma is making endless demands 😁

It's not just that we're less of a target; our coastline is essentially "closed off" toward the Mediterranean, especially facing the Italian coast. Even coming from Albania, it's a shorter trip to Italy.

If there really were 300 of them like the photos suggest, I'll take the entire Wall Street Journal print edition to a BBQ in Texas.🤣
There aren't even 30 of them if you judge by these Twitter photos.

A picture really does say it all...

Mexicans aren't just acting on their own whims—they aren't crazy... they have what I’d call a silent green light from Germany, if you can believe that. It’s almost as if Germany itself isn't even in a position to say "no," because they're essentially just following the lead of their loyal satellite, Austria...

Honestly, this feels pretty plausible to me; it's like Germany is physically unable to refuse because they're still carrying that heavy historical weight around their necks...

Yeah... I'm right there with you.
The Germans really overplayed their hand. They're starting to realize things aren't going according to plan, no matter how you look at it. Plus, you've got people at home getting restless and pissed off. So, what's the move? How do you bail?
When you're a superpower, you just let the smaller guys do your dirty work for you.

I'm sitting here listening to Turkish minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who made a statement right before his meeting with the European Union. He's claiming that Turkey is ready to cooperate with the European Union, and even hinting at becoming a part of the European Union🙂.
It’s either going to be a total non-starter, or—if we're being optimistic—the European Union gets a brand new member tomorrow😁

Turkey is honestly disgusting with all those blackmail tactics. Just gross🤮

Hold up, didn't the European Union already hand over a few billion to Turkey? They didn't even hold up their end of the bargain...

I'm dying to see how the European Union plays this... if they cave to Turkey, then Europe is nothing more than a weak, pathetic joke
hiddenmarlin14 said:Wait, didn't we just see NATO ships deployed for the exact same reason? 🤔

Yeah, they did, until that wannabe sultan Erdogan shut them down..

That's what I read... pretty sure I saw it in the New York Post..something about Erdogan stopping NATO ships in the Aegean Sea..

This whole Turkey situation is just 👎 total nonsense to me

Bottom line? Things are looking grim, and they’re likely about to get worse. Not exactly an optimist here.

First it was two people (I think) trying to hang themselves in the middle of Times Square, now we've got someone attempting self-immolation. What's next on the menu?
Smoking and oral health in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Harold Anderson3 said:So, apparently, there’s an actual elective course at a dental school in Washington, D.C. called this. When I first heard the name, I lost it—just sat there laughing for half an hour before deciding I had to share the absurdity with you guys. Like, wtf?? 🤣🤣Why couldn't they just call it 'cigarettes' or 'nicotine' and oral health? Or if they have to mention smoking, why cram 'oral' into the same title? It’s ridiculous.

Honestly, the fact that you're just sitting there cracking jokes and acting shocked by a course title says a lot about you..
What a joke. Seriously, how old are you?
What's actually the big deal with a name like 'smoking and oral health'?
amberorca40 said:I don't know about everyone else, but I just got into a massive blowout with my GP. Honestly? I’m done. I already went out and found a new doctor and switched over to a different community health center, but even this new guy is a total bust. It feels like I'm getting more actual medical insight from random health blogs and internet forums than I ever get from my own doctor. Like, seriously, why am I paying for an appointment if Google knows more about my symptoms than the person with the degree? Total joke.
So, after all that back and forth, they finally caved. I put in the request, gave them my whole damn reasoning, and they actually issued the referrals for the specialists. Finally.

So, basically, you're the kind of guy who makes doctors want to pull their hair out.
You’re just being argumentative and arrogant. Seriously, you walk around like you’ve got some kind of genius IQ when you really don't. Get over yourself.
Alright, that's one down. Moving on...

How am I supposed to trust a doctor who basically just walked across the stage at graduation? Seriously. It’s wild. You go in there thinking you’re getting an expert, and instead, you get someone who probably still has their student loan statements sitting on their dashboard. How do you even deal with that?

Doctors actually finish school? Like, actual school? You sure about that?

I basically have zero clue what’s actually going on. I end up figuring things out on my own way before I even get a single word of feedback from my doctor.

Yeah, exactly. Like I said, that genius is just built that way. 🙂
So you're telling me the doctor's got zero experience, yet somehow you end up knowing more than they do? Classic. Typical.
Good grief, where on earth do you even find this kind of nonsense? 🙏
So, I'm guessing when you roll up to the mechanic, you suddenly become an expert on engines, right? Same goes for when the plumber shows up, or when you’re at the barber, the dentist, or even just grabbing steak at the butcher shop. You just know everything about every single profession. Such a little genius. 👏

Honestly, from where I’m sitting, their whole job seems to boil down to nothing more than scribbling prescriptions and filling out referral forms. It’s all paperwork. There’s zero actual substance—no real attempt to actually look at the patient or deal with the disease itself. Just mindless bureaucracy.

Here we go again... more bashing. Just what the world needs. 🙄

So, here’s how these contract doctors pull their nonsense. They look me straight in the eye and tell me they aren't paying for my prescription upfront. Apparently, they aren't about to sit around waiting for Medicare to reimburse them. Unbelievable.

Look, this has nothing to do with the actual topic, but whatever. I guess an academic like you finally feels all warm and fuzzy inside now. 👍

Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
Rachel Davis81 said:I’ve been reading through this thread because one of my clients is dealing with this exact thing. It’s a total nightmare for her—she even went under the knife for surgery and ended up right back at square one. Absolute horror show. I feel for you having to deal with this; honestly, I hope I never have to go through it. I had some issues once after giving birth, but it cleared up fast, thank God.

Yeah, just like your client, it’s a vicious cycle. A complete horror show, seriously.
Thanks for the kind words, and I’m also hoping I never have to face this mess myself. 🙂

Betty Murphy50 said:Can you describe what a Bartholin's cyst actually feels like and where it pops up?

Just to be clear, for me, it shows up near the vaginal opening, toward the anus, on the right side.
I notice it while I'm bathing or showering, and as soon as I feel that little pea-sized lump, I know it's about to flare up.
It goes from a pea to a bean in two or three days, then it turns into a kidney bean, then a cherry, then a walnut, and finally an egg.
When it hits those last stages, I honestly have massive respect for women who survive that level of inflammation.
There isn't a specific look to it in terms of color or shape... it's subcutaneous, you feel it, and then the swelling becomes visible later on.
When the inflammation is minor (like the pea or bean stage), it’s just uncomfortable when walking or sitting in certain positions. Once it grows, walking or sitting becomes difficult, if not impossible.
Since I don't have any experience with hemorrhoids or fistulas, I can't help you much more than that. My advice? Go see a gynecologist and let them take a look, especially since you suspect it might be Bartholin's. You'll definitely have more answers after that.
Don't stress about a painful exam; if it is a cyst, they can't really do much at this stage anyway besides prescribe some meds.
An incision (where they cut it to drain the pus) is usually only done once the inflammation is at its peak.
Let me know what happens—I'm really curious to hear the outcome.

Rachel Davis81 said:If it isn't just some random cyst... then honestly, good luck to you.

Are you thinking Bartholin's?
I'm with this guy—if that's what it is, you're in for a rough ride. 😳

It's possible. I don't know anything about hemorrhoids, but I've dealt with Bartholin's, unfortunately. And yeah, that thing can definitely cause pain when you're sitting down or dealing with a massive bathroom trip..
Reporting a doctor in Health ·
Look, since we're talking about the local Community Health Center, they fall under the jurisdiction of the city government here in Washington, D.C. All the major health centers in the city—whether you're in the downtown area, West Side, or East Side—are municipal institutions, so you should probably take your grievances straight to the governing body in charge of them..
If that doesn't work, your next move is filing a formal complaint about their service, which you can send over to the County Patient Rights Commission..
But honestly, even though I agree with what was said earlier, waiting forever for referrals or just dealing with long lines at a clinic isn't exactly something worth starting a riot over..
Yeah, sure, it would be great if nobody had to wait, but for crying out loud, that’s just how it is. The whole system is broken..
Thank God it's only that issue and nothing worse..
If it's really getting under your skin, either switch doctors or just ask your current one when the crowds are thinner so you can avoid the rush. Otherwise, just buckle up and get some patience.. there's no magic fix for this mess..

So, I just got hit with a strike, and honestly? There’s zero explanation for why I was flagged...
Was it the trolling? Was I talking back to the mods? Insulting someone? Stirring the pot or derailing the thread? Who knows...
The fact that there isn't even a reason listed in the notification just goes to show how clueless I am when it comes to getting penalized on this site.

But seriously, what actually caught me off guard wasn't even the strike itself—it was the sudden mass deletion of posts and the flurry of strikes without a single warning.
Look, I get it. If a moderator calls out a thread for going off the rails—assuming they aren't just being power-trippy—and people keep ignoring them, then fine. Let the mod broom sweep the floor. But doing it mid-conversation, nuking a bunch of posts and handing out penalties out of nowhere without any heads-up? That's just messy.

I can already hear the replies: "It's the mods' call, they have the authority, deal with it." And yeah, okay, fine, I accept that. But I've been hanging around this forum for years, and I have never seen anyone manage a thread quite like this.

Since playing games or begging to have my strike removed is pointless, and I'm really just here to vent about how much I hate this style of moderation,
Peace out.

Rachel Palmer56 said:I’m totally floored by the Ban on Napornin. Seriously, what happened to having an actual opinion here? Do we just have to keep our heads buried in the sand if we want to stay on this forum?
I stumbled upon her post, and honestly, she didn't break a single rule. It actually scares me that someone like Napornin gets banned just for answering a simple question about "what people are saying where they live."

Her response was basically:

People are, frankly, disgusted, angry, and terrified. Americans I talk to say they don't even want to watch the news anymore. On the news sites, I can't even quote the comments mocking the liberal elites and journalists, let alone mention how there's even a petition circulating in the States to cut off government subsidies for NBC (that state-run broadcaster everyone is forced to pay for via their license fees regardless of whether they own a TV or just a tiny radio)...

What was so controversial about that post that an exemplary member like her gets slapped with a ban?
If this post breaks any rules, feel free to come for my handle too.
I think anyone who’s been around long enough to know Napornin's long and honorable track record here will back me up.
Thanks 🙂

I’m right behind you on this one..
Unfortunately, Napornin was actually replying to me..
Let me just copy my post from the thread about the warnings:

"Look, I love that the mods are active, but this immigration thread is getting out of hand.. you can't even have a relaxed conversation because posts are being deleted and warnings are flying left and right..
Personally, the warning I just got doesn't bother me much—I'm a pretty low-key user and unlikely to rack up enough points to get officially 'punished'—but I agree with you, lonebadger6 is definitely handing out warnings for no reason..

I got flagged because I asked a user living in Europe to give us some first-hand info on how Americans are reacting to the chaos hitting the continent (of course, her post was nuked, along with the post from romantic ass, who chimed in with an example from Sweden), and then I asked why their replies were being wiped..

So, here’s the play-by-play:
Me: Hey Napornin, what’s the vibe in the US? Can we get some first-hand intel?
Napornin answers.. romantic ass jumps in with the Sweden example..
I try to reply to them a few minutes later, and boom—posts are gone..
Me: Where did Napornin’s info on the American mood and romantic ass’s bit about Sweden go?
Then I get a private message..

Basically, we're dealing with a situation that's bringing the whole West to its knees, but apparently, lonebadger6 thinks it’s wrong to ask fellow users living abroad to tell us what the atmosphere is like in their neck of the woods..

Again, I'm not sweating the warning, and I'm not asking for it to be removed, but I think lonebadger6 is overreaching in an attempt to control the topic, which just kills any real discussion..

It’s a shame. This is the first time I’ve had a complaint about the politics section, which I’ve always thought was one of the best-run parts of this site, along with the mods who run it. I’ve always had nothing but good things to say until now.."

Sorry, Rachel Palmer56, but the answer to your question is pretty simple: we don't have the right to express ourselves here, no matter how nicely we wrap it up..
