Does anyone know if it’s still possible to file an unemployment claim through email—kind of like how we handled everything during the pandemic—or am I stuck driving down to the local Social Security office to deal with the counters in person?

It probably depends on which specific branch you're dealing with, because my local office won't accept anything over email, so you'll likely have to go down there in person...🕺

You can just make the adjustment through the M3P portal, it’s really no trouble at all... You simply check the boxes for whatever specific changes you need to make regarding your coverage base in your particular situation.

Did you happen to click that little icon to expand all the records—the one that pulls up every single filing ever submitted? I assume you did... But perhaps try filtering the list to show only the unsigned or rejected entries instead. It’s possible something just got tucked away somewhere by mistake...
As far as I can tell, there isn't really any way to opt out of this obligation, since it’s a permanent requirement... Perhaps they're asking for parental details just to verify pension amounts? Or is it actually for every single employee? I can't quite recall exactly which year they transitioned to filing those forms electronically—back in the day, you'd just hand over the paper copies to the IRS, so they really should have all that data on file already. Who exactly sent those notices to you?
Chloe, the automation should handle things just fine on its own, but you might want to double-check everything anyway because we all know how easily these systems can glitch out...

Does one need to present the actual contract at Medicare to prove the expiration date? Furthermore, would it be permissible to visit the Medicare office as early as tomorrow or Thursday to set the termination date for January 21st?
No need to bring the contract, you can just head in tomorrow with that termination notice... 🙂
When I spoke with Medicare, they mentioned that this change doesn't actually affect them, so there isn't anything I need to worry about on their end...

Is the business under a flat-tax setup? It makes sense that you’d handle the deregistration first, but honestly, it feels like everyone involved is just completely disorganized... If it's a flat-tax business, they track everything through your Social Security number, so there shouldn't be any extra paperwork needed on your end 😉
gentlepuma02, I actually went through something similar once. I don't think she was able to file the deregistration on that very same day, but I truly did forget to follow up. I called Medicare & Medicaid Services yesterday to have them clear one of my filings, though it hadn't been processed yet, which actually made things a bit easier—they just marked it as denied. All I really had to do was read through the filing details...
