I think there’s actually a vBulletin script out there for that, and I can tell you from experience it works pretty smoothly. Plus, it won't break the bank, which is nice. But...

I can't say I'm actually missing the facepalm, considering the facepalm has always been—and will forever be—right here—just look at it🤦.

What I find fascinating is observing how, in some arbitrary situation, the mere stalling of a trivial matter gets elevated into something you supposedly need to be godparented, pleaded with, or begged for—only so that, after about fifteen seconds of finally satisfying a request, it looks as if those above have somehow proven themselves to be, I don't know, incredibly merciful and, above all, diligent (hard work, major changes) toward those below.

Once those fifteen seconds finally occur, I have absolutely no doubt there will be a flood of thanks, praise, and endless boasting.

Facebook was taken offline just to put some pressure on the owner to finally deal with the server rights, since some of the emojis are hosted outside the forum (and still are)—which just isn't right. I pointed this out to the admin team, and they agreed with me.

Well, it’s been two months since that "pressure" started, and honestly, nothing has changed.

Admin team, seriously, what a genius plan this was... 🤦

If I’m following this correctly, things like referrals and all those other stats on WordPress are handled through Google Analytics. I guess I don't really see how the forum has anything to do with that 🤔

It's probably not the forum itself remembering you, but more likely your browser.

Even then, there's no real guarantee those images will stay up forever (though it is definitely way more reliable and long-term).

The absolute safest bet is probably just to buy your own domain and some web hosting—it shouldn't cost more than maybe a hundred bucks a year—and then you won't have to worry about anything. As long as you own the domain (and since .com domains are basically permanent), you're totally in control of your photos.

It’s already been a full month since I flagged those broken hosted smileys to the Admin Forum. The response from the admins was just to pull 🤦 smileys entirely, supposedly to "force" the owner and the tech team to actually deal with the issue (at least, that's how they explained it to me). On top of that, AxMi has messaged me privately a few times saying he's basically dragging the technical staff along by the sleeve and promising that "it'll be sorted out soon." But honestly, it's been a month now, and the tech team hasn't lifted a finger, let alone bothered to post a single word here. It really makes you wonder if they even exist.

Meh, I’m not exactly expecting a real answer. rustydrifter10 will probably just show up and say, "I'll pass the request along, but there's nothing else I can do." Just great.

Here's another thing: some users access the forum through the Tapatalk app because there isn't a dedicated mobile version. The forum officially supports Tapatalk, but the problem is that the Tapatalk module on the site is so outdated that it causes constant issues. Because of this, Tapatalk users end up getting targeted by moderation all the time. And the official response? "Use Tapatalk at your own risk." Well, why on earth does the forum support it then? Either drop support entirely, or deal with the fact that you can't update the Tapatalk module if you aren't capable of fixing native mobile support.

Well, it's pretty straightforward, I guess. Your actual account ID is just a user number that the database automatically generates when you sign up, and that number stays the same forever. The rule against duplicate nicknames is mostly there just to prevent confusion among users and make things easier to manage, but technically, there isn't a hard barrier stopping it. Mods and admins can always identify someone by their ID number. As for whether there's a log of name changes (besides the actual request thread), I guess I don't know for sure.🤷

And I assume the old username just gets released back into the pool of available names.

I mean, if you ask me, the only thing that should actually be against the rules is when someone goes straight for an ad hominem attack on another person in the thread. It doesn't even have to be like, a super aggressive insult or anything, I guess. Just targeting the person instead of what they're saying... maybe that's where the line should be drawn.

It reminds me of this one guy on a forum who said the people over at Ford were just incompetent because they blew through all their credit, and the moderator slapped him with a ban for "insulting" them, basically treating the users like they were part of the Ford organization itself. The guy tried to appeal, but yeah, obviously nothing happened. It's just... I don't know, who's really looking out for anyone here? 🤷

It feels a little hypocritical to me, I guess, to let people insult public figures on this board while simultaneously banning anyone from calling out anonymous users hiding behind their handles. To be honest, maybe I’m just saying this, but I think we should actually allow some "insults" among members. If I really believe someone is being an idiot or acting like a total jerk, why shouldn't I be able to say that? At the end of the day, I suppose it all comes down to the fact that you can still take shots at people—you just have to be careful with how you phrase things, I guess, and wrap it up in a bit of fancy wording to stay under the radar.
