Metallica in Washington, D.C.! in Music ·

Over on the Metallica message board, they’re actually voting on the setlist.

1. Eva Dye with 98x votes
2. Fade to Black with 8xx votes

Even if I doubt they really follow that forum too closely (despite it being their official site), they did host a petition for a concert here in America, and well, we got it.😁

If they’d just play Eva Dye🙏 , but I highly doubt it'll ever happen. They've never played it live, and I'm skeptical.
That song would get even a dead man headbanging.

I can finally die happy—though obviously not before June 27th.
That's going to be a long four months.

The movie was just okay. Neither great nor terrible. I actually dug the atmosphere up until about halfway through, but then things get a bit silly, and the logic starts falling apart.
That alternative ending on the DVD is awful—stupidly bad.

As far as the monster design goes, I don't know about you guys, but that stuff is creepy (especially when it's crawling around, those eyes, and then those teeth😁).

Folding@home has already scanned a massive chunk—and done it thoroughly..
War is war, though. It isn't quiet or hidden..

I get it, Folding@home is right about this; currently, I'm looking for little green men.😁
But space is just too vast for us to have scanned it all yet.
It feels a bit overambitious to think we could actually detect something at those kinds of distances. Like I said, the universe is huge and relatively young, so maybe those signals haven't even reached us. Still, if there are other civilizations out there, I truly believe some of them will be similar to us (God help us...) with high levels of technology. It’s not impossible.

person said:Still... it’s just not realistic to expect advanced evil races to have tech comparable to, say, Star Trek : Nemesis.

And here is why:

- There’s a universal rule of karma out in space—if you do bad things, they come back to haunt you. Advanced species and minds would be well aware of that.

- Intelligence and behavior naturally tend toward balance. Entities that sink themselves into wars and conflicts have to dump massive amounts of energy and resources into fighting rather than self-improvement...
Which means those kinds of wars would likely be detected right here on Earth.
Plus, the very concept of war implies a hunger for power and dominance... which is inherently self-limiting. A race wouldn't have the necessary development or interest to master interstellar flight if they were stuck in that loop.

Americans went to the moon basically in tin cans, and the only reason we did it was because of a rivalry between opposing superpowers.
Almost all technological progress on this planet has happened during or immediately following a major conflict.
So, the idea that destructiveness holds us back doesn't hold water. If anything, it drives tech forward. And you mentioned that a certain balance must exist.
Humans have dreamed of peace and a world without war since the beginning of time. There have always been people fighting for peace, but wars have happened and they will continue to happen. There will always be leaders for them, and technology will keep advancing. During peaceful eras, the more peaceful part of the population will be the ones building the tech for space travel.

Besides, why would we even need to detect a war in space? That's a moot point. Our current tech is way too primitive for something like that. A war could be happening millions of light-years away and we wouldn't notice—not yet, anyway. By the time any signals reached Earth, thousands of years would have passed.

restlesslynx said:Maybe space is just so massive that a species can only find another if they've been evolving for thousands upon thousands of years—just long enough to reach the tech stage where they can travel fast enough. And if they've survived that long without wiping themselves out, they’re bound to be civilized and peaceful. They probably won't even bother making contact with younger, more aggressive races. 🙂

Those kinds of species might exist; honestly, it makes sense. But why jump to the conclusion that a highly advanced race couldn't also be aggressive?
Just because they haven't destroyed themselves doesn't prove anything. Maybe they just realized there are other species out there they can use to fight their battles instead of killing each other.
I doubt anyone can truly go against their own nature.

If a species starts on a planet (like ours) where you either kill or get eaten, it’s hard to expect that instinct to vanish from their DNA after a few thousand years.

Take the planet in Star Trek : Nemesis where they found the Datin "clone"—those monsters that attacked them. You really think they'd suddenly become different just because they figured out how to travel through space?

hehe, 😁
but seriously,
maybe I phrased that poorly—the word "treatment" doesn't quite carry the same weight in American English as "healing" does..

I just meant that unnecessary bellicosity
and extreme, harmful aggression in people will eventually become totally redundant and easy to fix..
because.. we'll know what counts as an illness and what doesn't.. what's acceptable behavior and what isn't..
We'll know perfectly well that bad actions toward others come back to haunt the person who started them.
And it’ll be clear (proven by experiments) that every crisis and social ill stems
from aggressive, "wicked," and negative thoughts and actions (which includes things like persecution, abuse, and bullying).

and...
the bioenergy example is actually good..
I've experienced it.. I believe in it..
and I think that's our future..
the power of the mind and personal energy standing against wars and various hostilities..

I hope that never happens. Just imagine if people actually do it, and then in maybe 100 or 200... doesn't matter how many years... some pissed-off, warlike aliens decide to invade Earth (who guarantees they won't do the exact same thing with their own DNA?)

How do you expect a bunch of pacifist wimps to defend themselves?

Also, I don't agree with you at all that aggression and violence are some kind of disease. It's completely normal, natural, and hardwired into every living thing on this planet..
Sure, a lot of evil comes from it, but that's exactly my point.
Humans are naturally wicked, and no nonsense about DNA or bioenergy is ever going to change that.
And you know why? Because people won't allow it.

Why do you think there aren't aliens out there similar to us, maybe even more aggressive?

Some say if they were evil, they would have attacked us already. That doesn't mean anything. Maybe they're waiting for the right moment, maybe we aren't interesting, maybe they're too far away and it's not worth sending a fleet all the way to Earth, maybe we're still too primitive for them to care... maybe... maybe....

But you're wrong—I'd say there's way too much action and gunplay. Personally, I find it boring and totally unrealistic for that era.

What makes it unrealistic?
You know, after World War I ended, people actually thought that war had settled everything—that humanity would never let itself slip into another conflict again.

Haha... yeah, right. Ha ha ha. This century is barely underway and we've already seen several major conflicts break out, and honestly, we're just getting started.

The movie works fine for me. In fact, I think it’s pretty grounded, at least as far as any sci-fi flick can be.

You can find the trailer for the download of the Matrix 3 trailer here.

On another note, I was talking to a guy from the US who has ALREADY seen the whole thing. He told me the third part is WAY better than the second and that I won't be disappointed at all.

CANT WAIT!

I don't quite get it—isn't this basically just one movie split into two parts?
They were filmed back-to-back, after all. So how can anyone expect Revolutions to be better than Reloaded if they're essentially the same movie?

Movie recommendations, please! in Movies ·
I feel you. Sometimes I spend more than half an hour just wandering through my digital library, hoping something jumps out at me, only to end up picking something I've already seen a dozen times.

If you need some inspiration, here’s what I rolled through last week:
Road to Perdition (third time around)
JasonX
Death Waves
Resident Evil
We Were Soldiers (yeah, about the fifth time)

William Morris2 said:People who listen to heavy metal or rock—basically just noise and slamming your head against a wall—are usually pretty aggressive people, whether it's on the inside or the outside. I can't wrap my head around what's so wrong with crazy people finding this to be good music.😛
Can someone actually explain the appeal to me?

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I've been listening to Metallica and metal in general for 15 years, and I still get the same rush from headbanging. I don't do it quite as often as I used to, but...
Yesterday, I went hard to a Metallica track—Fight Fire with Fire. My neck still hurts.

As for the aggression part, you aren't wrong. It's just that most of us metalheads vent that energy through the music (at least I do), so there isn't much left over for real life.
Favorite songs under 5 minutes long? in Music ·
I’m talking about the solo, too.🙏
Favorite songs under 5 minutes long? in Music ·
You’re missing the point. Most of the heavy hitters from Metallica—and honestly, most great metal bands—tend to clock in around the 10-minute mark.
Give Orion a listen.
Like Kenneth Edwards3 said, you can't squeeze all that emotion into a 5-minute track.
As for repetition, there's such a thing as a guitar solo; usually, you don't even notice the repetition in most songs.
Take master of Puppets, for example. It runs about 8 and a half minutes, and if you ask me, it's one of the greatest metal tracks ever written. Hell, that entire album is probably the best metal record out there. Most of the tracks on it sit right around the 8-minute mark.
Top 5 essential/cult metal albums. in Music ·
I’m not going to pick a "top 5" because I can't narrow it down to just five albums and call them the absolute best. It really just comes down to personal taste.
Instead, I'll just list five that I personally love:
1. Metallica-Kill Em All
2. Metallica-Ride the Lightning
3. Metallica-Master of Puppets
4. Metallica-And Justice for All
5. Metallica-The Black Album
🙏

Maybe it seems a bit one-dimensional, but I can't help myself.
